bump... now that everyones been root for a minute or two. maybe somemore will start building

I'll second that. I've been getting into cooking and I'm still developing a good kitchen to work with. Thanks for the source.

np I just hated having to hunt stuff down when I started and by the time lox wrote his tutorial I had already figured it all out. but I'm just tryin to spread the word. most assume this basic Rom cooking is hard. but this tut helps to make things easier for those starting out. lox is the man he gets all the props here. enjoy hope to see ur kitchen and maybe a Rom soon

Regarding feedback for custom roms

Since I cannot post in the development section, I will post this here.
I've been crawling the forums for some time now and I really appreciate kyrillos and Lestatios custom roms.
You guys are doing a really good job.
But one request for all the people active in the respected custom roms' threads:
Please stop spamming requests about what app shound be included in the rom and what launcher and so on...
Both Kyrillos and Lestat seem to tend trying to incorporate all suggestions that one raises in the threats.
Especially now, that the new froyo sources are available there are more important things to be done for our "rom heros".
incorporating "useless" apps to please 2 people just bloats the custom rom and keeps the devs from creating custom roms that are really "custom" on a much lower level, instead of just random pre-installed-app roms.
Kyrillos and Lestat: You need to be more arrogant!
You should be straight then it comes to developing your custom roms!

Thats a caring, yet stead-fast Developer for you..!!! Great response Lestat, keep up your good work...!! We all love your ROMs...!!
Right,
if i want bloatware on my android i might as well install m$ office.
Beter to concentrate efforts on building a lean mean android machine.
Theres more than enough apps in the market for users to chose from.
Valid Question
I have the same issue, can't post in development and hate those spammers. But here's a valid question:
Now that there is a clean XXJLP on the lose, is it still better to install Krillios ROM or Lestagious ROM or to go with the new and shiny JPL?

[Discussion Thread] BlackEditionHD - 7hr08ik Edition [Work In Progress]

First and foremost i wanna send my thanx and admiration to Crowds for his amazing work with this ROM. Everything he has done has been amazing.
I am hoping to continue the work that Ricardo has done and carry on the expantsion and updating of this rom.
But i am new.
This will be my first ROM.
So i am calling for your help. I need to know what i need to do.
-What proigrams are the best to use
-How has Crowds done this work so far? I know its a port of FXP and MIUI, with some ICS elements but which? Do i start with FXP then blend MIUI over it? If so which parts?
-Which version of FXP (7.2 or 9.0)?
-Which version of MIUI?
Basically i am starting from scratch with the whole ROM dev. I am fast learner, a fellow geek, and i want to do this right. Please bare with me because i may ask stupid questions at times. I just need help.
So far i have a few things to read up on and try out. For now im just going to be faffing around seeing what i can do. But my main objective is to update and upgrade the current ROM with the new versions of FXP and MIUI. Then once i am confident with it i have a few ideas of my own that i want to try.
So far i have these that im going to read up on. If yuou have anymore sugestions or and info for me....please send my it
All In One Guide for Dummies
Beginners Guide to Android ROM Development
GB/MIUI/CM ROMs, Kernels, Tools and Apps.
Android Emulator
How to port Miui
Spaarc´s tutorial
The good combination will be MIUI\CM9, because its newest thing what we can get, but its gonna be hard to do, specially if you do not have any previous knowledge about porting, developing, so for now you can start with fxp CM7.2
First get stable ROM, then start with modification of same one,my suggestion.
cheers
skorvy
Almost CM 9.0 FXP !
Because 7.2 is Old ,
You need New Source & New Design !
i get that cm9.0 is the new and best one. but obviously im new to all this.....so i wanna know which fxp crowds was using and just start my expedition by updating what he has done....i know fxp has released cm7.2 AND cm9.0 both with fxp106
As im new i wanna start by following the road set before me.
So far this rom is FXP052 and miui
but which miui? and is it already cm9.0 or is it just cm7.2? porting a whole new rom to the one will be a big peice of work and i am brand new to this
It's a great initiative and I really gotta add the importance of the RTL fix for Arabic & Farsi Support, as I've installed the BlackEditionHD FXP25-MIUI but none of the RTL patches work as I do even know which MIUI version is being used?
Regards.

OK problem solved.
Turns out i gotta turn OFF my kasperski before i download the file otherwise it detects as a virus and closes the file off?!?!?!
How hard would be for FXP to mention that in thier thread? i mean really???
Well now i gotta wait my hour before downloading the file again, and hopefully i can start work on this rom
Little bit harsh to fxp buddy, all he's done for us we should all worship him.
Anyway good luck with this project

Whatever you do, don't put paid apps in your rom. I'm not saying that's what u were going to do. I'm just concerned for new devs. A few people have gotten in trouble for posting "warez" recently, so... yeah. Just trying to help
Not trying to offend, and if that isn't what you were talking about then disregard my ramblings.
And I suggest xloud, assuming you could get it to work... Not sure what mods need to be done for that.

hey guys
The rom is working freaking awesomly, but i need some help with my theme.
The rom is fxp + miui blend, miui on top of fxp. I have the theme i want saved, backed up etc. And i have the script set so it installs with the rom. Everything is fine with the install process, but when i install the rom, the theme is applied, but the lockscreen wallpaper, and homescreen wallpaper revert back to their stock images and not the images i have set.....
Obv i dont want to see a hd pic of the seaside...i want the images i have chosen. Can someone help?
Well I finally figured out where the hell the dam pictures go!
I think I'm ready to release the first version of the rom.
I'll post the thread links tomorrow when it's ready. But first I got a gf to cozy upto

Guide to Making A ROM

OK so i have the original EVO
i want to make a rom from scratch or someones else so i can fix it even more because frankly..i have alot of time on me and people need a good rom.
it doesnt seem hard but maybe Virus or more developer can help me here.
its more because i like the sense 3.5 roms but it seems alot of little bugs and especially that sms split bug. And i want to see if i can fix all that but i need people to start helping me with links or guides.

[Q] can someone teach me how to build a ROM

My friend owns an samsung galaxy tab 4 t-230 and would love to upgrade it into a more pure android. Since i kind of got into android ROMs and there are no AOSP or CM roms for the tab 4 t-230 this would be a great chance for me to build a AOSP or CM rom. I have ubuntu 14.10 and a decent enough pc with 16 gb of ram and an i7. If anyone could help me abit of how to build a AOSP or CM rom for the device i would be verry thankfull.
----------------------Edit-----------------------
I wanted to say thank to you guys! I did quite some progress by now. If you own a t230 / nu then feel free to check out my custom kernel

Relevant post - some starting info, and check out the CM wiki he links to. Also, and this is a very basic step, but if you've never done this before it can be informative: download a rom zip file (preferably but not necessarily a stock-based kitkat rom for this device) and open it up in either 7zip or WinRar, check out the layout and structure, and familiarize yourself with the updater-script. (Actually you can do that with a firmware tar file too). Sorry I can't give you any more useful info, not a dev, definitely not a rom designer, just a guy who knows a fair amount of android stuff.
Also don't let the tone of that post discourage you; the poster was answering a guy who was basically asking about the feasibility of building a brand new rom for the sole purpose of being able to use one particular proprietary Samsung app. Yes it is difficult, but still doable, and you say you're motivated...
Yes i did forgot to say that any links for learning are appriciated
Well.. I would ask moonbutt74 for more info regarding commands and such, probably more info than I can give but.. keep in mind your going to have to download about 20+GB of source code and all that. Also a bunch more knowledge of more things I don't remember. But it is alot

Well I decided to revisit this thread. Never thought I would come so far. I really want to say thanks to all of you who supported me and still support me. Everyone has a beginning and here was mine. Now I am actually there where I really wanted to be. Releasing a custom kernel and finally work on a custom ROM! Thank you XDA!

I'm amazed on how much people learn and achieve as well as myself. I've seen people who were total newbies then later built custom recoveries, CM12, Mods, Roms etc. Anyway good luck on working your rom!

Also I thank you my life for introducing me to moonbutt74. He learned me everything from how to work with custom kernels to Roms. Sadly he decided to stop developing a few Werks ago but he's doing it for his own good. I still will mention @moonbutt74 on my future projects because he really is the one who changed me from confused to knowing what is actually going on. So thanks allot !
