I need some help, every single time I receive a phone call while my phone is locked, the first half of the ring is just a black screen and vibrating, regardless if the sound is on or not, the second half of the ring shows the picture for a second and during that second it starts playing the default ringtone, even though I have my contacts programmed with their own ringtone. Also, when I try to answer the call I am never successful and I miss the call every time. However, when the phone is not locked I receive my phone calls exactly as I should. The ringer that is programmed to each contact is played, it shows the picture right away. Can anyone help me? Please.

HELP
I have the same problem. The phone rings, and I cant pick up the call. End up with lots of missed calls
I have so far reset to factory defaults a couple of times, and the only app I have installed is Linda File Manager from the Market.
My G1 has a RC9 stock from TMo and I am using it with a Vodafone sim..
Can someone please help?
thanks
N
Hmmmm
I don't know what causes it...I think that we all are experiencing it. It hasn't happened all that much since I installed Lock 2.0 and had it shut off the system lock.
well that may be true, however ive factory reset several times since installing lock 2.0 and i still have this problem
YA that happens to me sometimes to
So with this bug is your phone rooted or not. The reason I ask is because mine is and it happens to me all the time I've reflashed to rc29 and done the process over again and I was planing on just going to stock rc33 but if its an issuse with both I don't want to
Happens to me too ... I'm rooted RC9.
Was happening to me until I did a wipe. I, too, am rooted.
Same thing here, rooted RC33 JF1.42. The first thing I suspected was any/all of the alternative home apps. I haven't seen tested any of them enough, nor the default Home app, so I can't lay blame yet. I suppose it could be the rooted firmware, but I'm more suspicious of these alternate home apps first.
I have the stock rc33
I had problems where it wouldn't recognize indivial ringtones for contacts until I removed weatherbug.
:S
I cant believe this is happening.
I will most likely sell this phone then, as I dont have any use for a phone that I cant pick up phone calls with!
In the meantime my phone bill is sky rocketing as I have to call everyone back.
I simply cant justify spending so much for a phone that.. well.. doesnt work.
I thought Android was finally what I wanted in a phone OS, but obviously is NOT. Will have to go back to reliable WinMo :S
Yea my phone is havin that same problem and it's rooted too... but my friend has one thats not rooted and hers does the same thing so i dont think it has anythin to do with the phone bein modded...
not rooted

mine is not rooted, and it does that even fresh out of factory reset.
was thinking of getting the G2 but after this I m afraid I will stick it to the android.
very disappointing.
It has nothing to do with weatherbug, I've just tested it without weatherbug installed, same result, guess well just have to wait for the next update in a month or so, til then... don't lock ur phone
I have this problem TOO!!! I'm very very disappointed. I didn't seem to have this problem in the beginning but when I installed the jf1.42 rc 33 it started hapenning. Hmm I don't know. Maybe it's better to go back to stock rom and see if it works better.
Looking for anyone who wants to help cut the fat on the Espresso SENSE UI.
I'm not a fan of the Legend Sense UI and I think their are a lot of good aspects to the Slide Sense UI.
I think most of these attributes are covered up by the bloatware and redundancies of Tmo, HTC and Google APPs.
Right now I'm just going through APKs, clearing out the non-essentials, and testing to see if I break anything.
I'll keep a list of Safe to Remove here in the OP.
This list is from ROOT, ENG-Build, and flash to SlideMEROOT2. If you have stock, SlideMEROOT2 is stock ROM with extras and allows you to use SuperUser through ClockworkMod. (keep the update.zip from SlideMEROOT2 Flash Thread)
Safe to Remove List (Not set in stone)
T-Mobile Apps
AppPack2.0.apk
Faves.apk..............................(Tmo's useless Faves // Kills dock button // you will crash Contacts if you click add fav)
FavesWidget.apk.....................(Will leave blank spot in Widget List)
mytouchmusic-signed.apk.........(Tmo Internet Radio)
HTCSetupWizard.apk ..............(THIS IS THE TMO SET UP WIZARD AT FIRST BOOT)
SelfHelp.apk .........................(Tmo My Account and My Device For Idiots) TWO FOR ONE SPECIAL!!!
vvm-signed.apk.......................(Visual Voicemail)
The first time you use Visual Voicemail requires Self Help. After that you can remove Self Help and continue to use the VVM.
HTC APPS and Widgets
Mail.apk................................(HTC Mail App)
htcmailwidgets.apk.................(HTC Mail Widget App)
HtcTwitter.apk.......................(HTC's Twitter App: aka Peep)
com.htc.TwitterWidget.apk.......(Peep Widget)
Random Apps
amazonmp3_1.6+24_signed_zipaligned.apk....(Amazon MP3 Store)
BarcodeScanner.apk................(Useful QR Code Scanner but unnecessary)
IM.apk..................................(Google's Instant Message App)
THEMES
Hoops.apk
LightShow.apk
NatureTheme.apk Nest Theme.... I think
Palazzo.apk
Surf.apk
Wildflower.apk
Not sure where Red Rocks Theme APK is....
(Going one by one, so much help would be appreciated.)
If you remove something and things break put it back. Some things may have broke you just haven't tried using the thing it broke, so keep a backup.
NOT Safe to Remove LIST

There's already a thread for this...
I posted that on someone else's thread and have been using it as a jumping point. There are a lot of Espresso stuff that is buried or mislabeled (probably on purpose). Gotta Catch 'Em All.
That turned into more of a help group thread. I'm specifically looking for people that want to test and keep a list in the main thread. Not sure if the OP of that thread will be updating a list. It didn't seem like it and it was more of a help me shout out.

Yeah, for sure. I'm going to try to remove...
Faves
MyModes
My Account
My Device
Peep
Stocks
Weather
News
...and as many of the themes as I possibly can. I'm fairly certain that I would have to leave at least one theme in place in order to prevent a crash upon wiping the phone, so I'll probably be leaving the surf/beach theme on the handset.
Someone in the other thread tried removing Faves and FavesWidget which resulted in crashes/issues with the Contacts app. Someone should try replacing Contacts and Phone with the "stock" versions from a CM5 rom, either the dream/sapphire or N1 version.
FriendStream.apk
Removing this seems to be causing Facebook for Mytouch sync issues. It syncs but the sync icon never goes away, and going into accounts sync google sync stuff shows icons that never go away as well.

Wait... you removed Faves.apk with NO issues? Have you tried launching the Contacts app because someone else reported issues there.
Also, which apk is for peep?
Anyone know what apk is for that setup icon thats a green "my"

Edit, found what peep and that setup icon are:
peep
HtcTwitter.apk
com.htc.TwitterWidget.apk
setup icon
HTCSetupWizard.apk
friendstream doest work correctly if you remove faves so it looks like that one has to stay, at least for me as i like the friendstream for facebook

We should probably limit the "official" apps that can be removed without affecting the functionality of any other apps. For instance, we probably shouldn't advice anyone to remove the Genius app when there's a hardware button set to trigger the launch.
The Peep app is, I believe, htcTwitter.apk. I don't believe you should be removing the Setup app -- I dont know the .apk name -- but it's your phone.
the setup app only displays those 4 options you get when you turn on the phone for the first time.
I am savvy enough to know how to enable email, social networking, and adding contacts all by myself without a program holding my hand lol
There is a stock Setup and there is a Sense Slide Tmo HTC one lol. I'm curious about the contacts app issue... My only problem is the damn app keeps changing it's name from People to Contact and back and forth... It hasn't crashed yet. It only does when you try to add someone but hitting the dock button does nothing, which is a plus. I'm gonna find the correct setup to remove and the T-Mo Account bs right now.
It's a shame removing this crap doesn't get us more usable ram.
/data where **** gets installed to never changes and seems to be a different partition than /system.
Where are you removing it from and how?
/system/app where all the preinstalled crap is
I'm moving it to my sdcard for backup.
And yes, the files are gone, and yes df reports /system has more free space, but like I said, anything you install yourself gets installed to /data which is a seperate partition.
Do a df and see.
Ohh, yeah your personal installs still get saved to RAM sadly. We gotta wait on Apps2SD to fix that, but for now killing the useless stuff preloaded will make room for the stuff you want and need.

Will it just stop working or is it going to keep working and start charging me money without my permission? Should I just uninstall it now? Can anyone recommend a suitable replacement visual voice-mail app?

Google voice hands down...
I would suggest (personal opinion on style and battery usage) installing the installing the inverted version here just because black looks slicker and causes less work for the screen.

When I signed up it said that when my free trial was up I would be presented with an option to continue the service or to cancel. They specifically stated that there is NO automatic billing once the trial is up.
How do I go about removing the sprint app? I tried dragging it to the trash can and that didn't work.. I have sdx stock app remover, but I don't see anything obviously titled "voicemail" or some such..
also, google voice setup is stuck at "verifying phone number" been that way for at least a minute now.. long enough for the screen to turn off
edit: yea, that google voice isn't installing.. I'm going to try the market version, then come back to the inverted version at a later time.. I really hate non-black themed apps too..

try setting it up on a computer and skipping that step on your phone. I only ever did that set up when I was dealing with a non-smartphone.
^^ ah, okay I'll try that ^^
awesome, the market version just force closes at the same point.. This is some bull****

The stock app is called cm-android. And you can try this apk. Its the inverted and I edited it to have a transparent widget. I just put it on mine and it installed fine.
disregard this post.. **** was going bad here.. but its better now.
OKAY, installed
Thanks gitusum.
Still not perfect.. I tried a test call and my hilarious outgoing greeting is gone.. replaced by some generic woman and there is no option to even leave a voicemail, she just says something like the call failed, please try again.
well okay the good news is that I'm back where I started with the stock sprint voicemail to text app.. With my hilariously rude outgoing greeting!
I don't know why, but forwarding my voicemail to google simply was not working.
Work is over, so I quit for today. Will try again tomorrow. Thanks for the help everyone!

Did you set it up /w voice.google.com first? Setting up through the app itself doesnt work all that well IMO. Once it is setup you can just skip the voicemail setup step if/when you reinstall. I just pressed activate google voicemail on this phone. It then should make you dial a #. After that it is done.
yea setting it up through the voice app doesn't work but setting it up on a computer did. It's just that dialing the code to forward voicemails to google voice doesn't do anything but break my voicemail.
If I call my number I get some kind of cut-off error.. it sounds like "-all could not be completed, please try again" with no option to leave a voicemail. The code to deactivate the voicemail forwarding works fine at restoring the original sprint voicemail service.
As I have been flashing ROMs I've noticed many come with the Phone.apk. My Tab is a tablet, and not a phone so I want to remove it all. But when I tried to through adb it renders my data service useless. So would someone please tell me exactly how this is done?
Strange that you want to delete it
You could take a custom launcher and hide it from the drawer.

I don't see how.. I have a phone to make calls from. I have a tablet for web browsing.
I'm not wanting to hide it though. I want to remove it.
As far as I know the only way to fully remove the dialer functionality would be to cook your own rom without it. The only other thing I can think of is maybe taking the phone.apk from a standard tmo build and using that (I am fairly sure the default build still has a phone.apk as to my knowledge it is needed for radio services to function). Having said that I use mine as a phone so not gonna mess around to test it myself and my apologies if it doesn't/wont work. As a side note phone.apk is less then 4mb not sure why it would be a huge concern.

My contacts app has the dialer in it. And on some ROMs I get a voicemail notification. I suppose I could find a contacts apk without it. But if I'm going through all that I might as well get rid of the whole thing. I just don't see the reason behind needing to use a tablet as a phone, you know?

The "simple" solution would be to go back to your stock ROM, but that's likely not really an acceptable solution as the performance of the stock ROMs tends to be pretty poor in comparison to the later development builds.
So, you are likely to be left with removing or replacing certain components from your desired ROM with the stock TMo variants (as has been previously mentioned) on a trial and error basis to determine what works and what does not. It's doubtful that you'll find anyone who can tell you *exactly* what you want to do, because it seems that most US Tabs users are looking to re-enable the phone functionality that was artificially crippled by the US carriers.
I seldom use my Tabs phone functionality, but I have used it (makes a great speakerphone for conference calls!), and I would always rather have more functionality than less.
Regards,
Dave
As we all know Gingerbread has been in the oven... And I was one of those people who could not wait for it to cool off. As soon as I saw the leak early saturday morning, I was already downloading. what could go wrong, right? I odin'd the ef02.tar, started her up and wow, she's beautiful, save the extra ugly 4g symbol in the window sill (notification bar) that looks even worse now than previous desserts.
Keep in mind this is a stock .tar. No root. No cwm. No nothing. Except bloat. Low and behold my beautiful lil girl had a very serious functionality flaw. After my first reboot, no more incoming phone calls :^(...
So I've tried everything, I gained root, installed cwm 3.1.0.1 wiped data, cache, dalvik multiple times. Re odin'd the .tar. Flashed Decad3nce's odexed and deodexed roms. Updated modems. Tried frozen on ec05, took a shot at simply AOSP, odin'd a stock ec05, even went all the way back to eb13, with cwm 2.5 (changing file systems when needed) now I'm back to a bone stock ec05 from the stickies in development... Still no incoming phone calls. I called sprint technical and they were unable to resolve the issue.
Funny thing is I can make calls, I have data (3&4g), I can text, just won't receive.
Has anybody else seen anything remotely close to this. If so please comment, if not, comment anyways. I wanna get some opinions on my situation.
P.S. feel free to laugh at my short comings, lord knows just thinking about it brings chuckles to my mind...

You know, i did install google voice. But ive installed it multiple times until now, so i figured it was unrelated. But this past time it did take my texts through there, which had never happened before. thats why i uninstalled it. Im gonna check that out and see if it fixes it. Good luck with your issues.
Sounds like you clicked yes to Sprint integration (ports your number temporarily to google). So they go to your google voice account, however you can check an option to have them sent also to your phone as well (although if you do this with google voice installed you will probably get 2 notifications per 1 sms). Also call screening is an option that is enabled by default, option in google voice (desktop web interface). I had to turn that off too (the press 1 thing). Hope this helps, its just options. Also you could go online and disable the integration and go back to normal.
EDIT: Also make sure your phone is listed to receive calls in the web interface (via a desktop). I know it should do this by default but maybe it didn't for god knows what reason?

I had disabled it, it just took a bit. but its all working again Thanks so much man.
I remember when I did that... Sat there for an hour pulling out my hair before I realized I needed to click the number on the right side of the GoogleVoice Page to change the settings. Not my proudest moment.

I just came back from the sprint store, and none of there techs could give me anything in depth about google voice.
