Open market, go to downloads.
I can't think of any other reason for knowing the location other than to steal apps, and if that's your intention you are asking on the wrong boards.
If you download Root Explorer on the market you can search your phone for installed apps, I'm sure you can figure it out from there, and I will leave it at that.
Good day sir.
Edit: There are plenty of backup apps that can backup your apps for you if that is your goal. I hear Titanium Backup is a good one.

got it man.. Thanks

[Q] Rooted Samsung Fascinate v. Google talk service

So yes, Titanium Backup and the deletion of google talk are at it again. This time I actually knew I shouldn't delete then brain farted and did it anyway. So here lies my marketless and FC gapps everytime I pull the market app up.
For the record I searched as best as possible for a solution and the closest I got was a link for gtalk and the Evo 4G, and needless to say it still doesn't work, the market and the force close gapps.service still happens after re install
A solution without a flash and re-root is preferred, please educate the new guy! Thanks for the record I know I'm a jack wagon lol.
Search these forums (or Google) for Fascinate System Dump. It will have whatever files you deleted.
So dump files obtained. Is this is simple drag and drop to the OS or do I need a program on the computer to be able to interface with the filesystem on the Fascinate?
Bare with me guys, while I bring myself up to speed on tearing through the Andriod OS, hacking windows is one thing - tearing apart my phone for the first time - thats a whole nother ball game for me.

So I did that, finally got the files onto my phone and reinstalled all the google.apks including ones that were already existing on the phone.
To no avail I still get the gapps Force close and I'm still unable to download from market after restoring Google Talk Service.
Any help or a simple suggestion would be appreciated - been trying this all day with no success.
I'm not sure if you "installed" the apps or if you placed them back in their proper folder(s), but my guess is that any app you had pre-installed which you deleted was previously in the /system/app folder. The dump has all the files in this folder. You don't need to re-install these files, you need to just copy them back to the /system/app folder.
When you download and install an app, it will install to /data/app. If you "installed" the files rather than copying them back to /system/app, that may be the problem.
On a side-note, this is why I like to move files from one folder to another rather than use Titanium Backup to delete apps/files.
Don't forget to reboot your phone after you copy the files back to /system/app.
Lastly, I'm not responsible for what you break.

Roger that side note - that will be my new policy when managing files.
As far as the clarification - I have been indeed installing the apps instead of moving them to the appropriate location - I guess the difference in installation location never occurred to me. Thank you in advance for the heads up and I'll report my success or failure, hopefully success after i get out of work this evening.
Don't worry if I brick I won't hold you accountable - after all I'm the one who deleted Google apps from the Andriod phone. LOL, In hindsight it was a terrible Idea.

Preserve Angry Birds through different builds?

Hi Guys,
I'm on phireMod build and I was thinking of moving to different build, but I fear if I move...I would lose the levels i completed
Is there any way to preserve the data. Does titanium backup also preserve angry birds data. Any other easy way?
Regards
Yes to the first two questions and no to the third.
(I'm kind of confused as well. I edited this post heavily.)

Personally I use Titanium Backup, but another way is to keep your latest highscores.lua file
it's located in /data/data/com.rovio.angrybirds/files
(the settings file is also there in case you want to keep your current settings)
You can use any file explorer with root access (i.e. root explorer). Then, just copy and replace the highscores.lua on your new build with the one you pulled off your old build.
In case you don't like using backup programs, for whatever reason, you can use the other method.
Also, you can pull the apk file off /data/app. That way you can just place it on your Android\AndroidApps folder for auto install at boot.

I second that. I port over my Angry Birds score to every build using Titanium backup. What I noticed though is I need to install angry birds manually as Titanium fails on some builds. Then when it's installed I go back in Titanium, find angry birds in the backup/restore section, click on it and restore Data only. Everything should be there.
The /data/app/com.rovio.angrybirds folder can be copied from the old ROM to a safe place too and then copied back once the game is installed.
Good luck!
There was another thread somewhere on the forums which I detailed all of this, but I can't find it for the life of me.

would there be anywhere else that the apk and the lua file would be located besides data/data? using astro file managers any search i do for highscores.lua results in nothing found.
my data folder is empty? i've been playing angry birds for a while and wanted to put everything else to a newer build that i like alot.

Are you searching from root or from the SD Card? which build are you running? I personally use root explorer, I prefer the interface to Astro... The actual folder is /data/data/com.rovio.angrybirds/ and all files are located there. I still say you'd be better off using the Titanium Backup solution though.
Thanks for finding my post, I must be tired.
nvm. finally figured it out. i keep forgetting everything has to be done in root through adb most of the time.
thanks for the help though. i should have posted like 3 hrs when i figured it out lol.
thanks again!

If Titanium gives you issues restoring the actual app, make sure
1. you first hit the Problems? button to get the latest busybox
2. go to preferences and check on "Force to same location"
I use to have issues with Titanium and some apps including Angry Birds, but after doing that apps install without issues.
Titanium does preserve the data. But you will not be able to restore Angry birds directly, since it doesn't install unless your unmount your SD card. Here's what i do everytime
Unmount SD card -> Install Angry birds from market or using apk -> Mount Card -> Restore App Data Only using Titanium Backup
Hope that helps

Search for 'move to SD'.
Search the Market for App 2 SD
App to sd opened up about 25% more memory. Thanks guys
You can also try Darktremor a2sd script. It should allow you to move not only apps that can be moved to SD card but every apps along with the dolvik cache and user data files.
I haven't tried it on my HD2 yet and I know its still in beta, so I can't guarantee you whether it will work or not. But at least it worth a try. If u wanna try it do a nandroid backup first, just in case it mess something...

You can delete unused stock apps by purchasing an app called 'Root Explorer' from the market (or install any root-enabled file explorer really, i just like root explorer the best lol) and delete the .apk file of whatever app you don't want from /system/app directory of your phone. If your rom loads the system to ram memory, you also will have to delete the .apk from /system/ram/app directory or it will re-appear

I got root explore and did the following. clicked on root explorer then went into sysytem then app and deleted the facebook and twitter apk. They still appear in my apps though. Is there something elseim supposed to do?
Still no instructions on how to delete stock apps via root explorer? I found this on the thread to my rom but dont know how to install it. I got it on my desktop but now what? Can anyone help?
If you wish to gain an additional 27MB for apps in /data/ you can install the my new partition layout MAX[Build.v1.1.7]. This is NOT required and you can use any of my other partition layouts with build v1.1.7. However if MAX[v1.1.7] partition layout is used with older builds your Phone will not boot. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

[Q] Easiest way to install apps without market account?

I have some friends that want me to install Phiremod onto their Nook Colors. What is the easiest way for me to install free apps in bulk without using the market? I thought it would be cool to have a bunch of free apps loaded on it for them so they don't have to install them all manually. Thanks!
Either push them with adb as a data/app folder or my preferred method....Open the rom with 7zip pre-flashing and just copy the apk's over.

Cool. I'll try that. But where is a safe place to legally obtain the free apps as .apk files?
I'd like that info too
OK guys. There are a couple of ways I do this. You can download any rom for any device, open it up and pull the .apk's you want out of it, you can find them on your android phone and transfer them to your Nook, and you can find a lot of good ones right here on XDA. I have a whole library of apps that I've saved over the last couple of years. They're all backed up on my computer andf my dropbox account. Let me know if there is anything in particular you're looking for if I have it I'll share.

[Q] how to update/uninstall pre-installed apps?

Hello!!!
i am another happy owner of the Ideos X5! New to android but i read a lot, before every step.
Here is one problem that i can't find a solution.
My device has preinstalled the app "Documents to go" v 2.5004 (748). I got the "documents to go" v 3.001 but i can't install it. :S
I used Root Uninstaller to uninstall the app, it said that the app is uninstalled, but i still can't install the newer version.
I got a message that says that the app is not installed.
what should i do? :S
with root explorer go into system/app folder and see if there is any trash of this app left... also check into data/data folder...
in the first directory there aren't any leftovers and the second is empty.
any other suggestions?
maybe you can use a new room?

that's the most difficult solution, for a simple problem.
finally i switched to OfficeSuite v4.0.351.
the portuguese model have the stock apps in the folowing path:
cust/tmn/pt
The "TMN" is the company name, soo you maybe have some like this.
You can go in this path and delete the apps with Root Explorer, Mount R/W and long press on the app and select Delete.
Sorry about my english
As syckopt says, you can delete the .apk files via Root Explorer, but the directories may vary depending on which carrier you have (and which country).
For example, my directory is: /cust/Dialect/SE/app
@ syckopt , sebgus
The Greek model has most of the stock applications at this directory: system/app/
while at the /cust/wind/gr/app/ there are only three (GreekPack.apk , Layar.apk and TouchPal.apk)
there are some applications, they say that they can "freeze" some stock apps. what exactly is freezing?
please check out and my other active thread: [Q] how to migrate to a new SD card?
thank you all for your help!

Freezing is basically the same as renaming the app or removing it. Its just allows to to unfreeze it (or rename it back to original name again), which is a lot easier than using something like root explorer.

oh, i see!
which is the best app to do this?
Hello,
I've got the same problem. As it is not possible to update the pre-installed Documents to Go via Google Play (I always get error -104) I uninstalled that app using Titanium Backup. But unfortunately, it is still not possible to install ANY version of Documents to Go. If I try to sideload the APK file, I only get "App was not installed". Google Play gives me various errors, mostly -4 or -104, refusing to install the app, either.
In System/apps, there is no remnants of Documents to Go as far as I can see, a directory named cust does not exist.
Please help.
Thank you very much in advance and kind regards,
DAC324
