What ROM are you using and why? - HD2 General

This is not a "what is the best ROM" thread
But what ROM are you using and why?
________________
Im using Dutty HG V1.1, 5.2.23544 ROM.
I started with Dutty's ROM when i had the TD2 (Topaz) and has continued with his ROM's when i got the Leo, mainly because i find it stable a clean.

Well stock 1.66 ROM.
Why: well i like the clean Sense look HTC made I have done lots of tweaks and some mods to it. But its 95% stock. Plus i run our HD2 support at work, so it helps me remembering where stuff is in the stock ROM. Untill i get my 2nd HD2 for work related stuff. Then i might install a custom ROM.

Others who will share their reasons for choosing the ROM they are using?

Stock 1.43 O2 UK
Mainly because I'm too much of a wuss to flash a custom ROM.
And O2 UK hasn't released a newer ROM yet.
Although to be honest, theres nothing more than a niggle in the messaging (started after installing a hotfix) that isn't working, and I'm an avid believer of the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" methods.

ROM: CleanEx v1.03
Why? It's a stripped down ROM with performance mods and it's lightning fast, based on WinMo 6.5 so looks stock - definitely worth a look IMO (see my sig)

Same here, and HIGHLY annoying from O2...waiting patiently...
I use stock as I just prefer the stock design etc, other roms seem to have stuff which I personally don't like.
I tweak it to suit my needs, but thats about it.

Stock 166 rom with cookies mods etc why coz i bricked two omnias flashing so now am too scared to brick my lovely phone

Stock 1.66 WWE, too scared to flash!! (although i did do the official upgrade from 1.48!)

SONE rom v1.36 because it is lightning fast, and has most of the apps removed, making it small, (thus freeing up extra storage space) and it is all but bug free (no sleep of death, finally!) oh, and it has cookies built in.

Artemis 5.0 with some visual tweaks (mainly elegance 3 & full landscape)
ROM: 2.10.531.7 Artemis 5.0 NLD
Radio: 2.07.50.27_2
Because for me Artemis roms have always worked great, and its like 'better stronger faster' at each new version, its a great sturdy fast rom, never had problems with installing or using any Artemis.
I use PIMBackup to copy over my contacts and messages between roms btw

L26V2.0 ultimate power. with maxmanila
why? full,fast and stable
I prefer a complete rom with most programs in it.

Stock 1.66 ROM for now... I had a HD and flashed it every couple of weeks, but I'm going to see how long stock can last me until I get bored and tired... Then I'll try out Miri, Dutty, and Laurentus in a month or so, plus any others that take my fancy.
+1 for Cookie's Mod and HD Wall for full-screen wallpaper.

Definitive Artemis v. 5.5. I have tried many different Roms and Artemis is the fastest and most stable.

artemis because:
- performance is always excellent (speed, stability, battery drain);
- it is very close to stock;
- it uses latest windows and manila builds (for leo only);
- it doesn't have compatibility issues with my 3rd party software;
- last but not least, i like sternas' attitude in pursuing his own philosophy and towards his "followers"
currently using the best and latest 5.5
cheers

Axlor V7 wm6.5
2.07 radio
My first custom rom on HD2 and its great, close to stock with some great apps and lovely Dinik icons! I have tweaked it and is running exactly how i want it!

L26V2.0 ultimate power.
why? full, fast and stable.

I'm using the ROM in my signature, because its the first one i flashed to and narly bricked my phone in the process not doing it properly getting to excited lol, so im sticking with this for a while lol

And now? What ROM are you using yet and why? Why did you switch to another ROM, just for fun or booring?

EnergyROM's 23549 Cookie build, latest release (March 17th).
I tried Artemis for a while, liked it, there was nothing wrong with it per se, just that EnergyROM was better, mostly because HTC Messaging is disabled by default, the Outlook that's included supports MMS, Swype is included, the way he does the UI just looks fantastic, Opera 10 included is amazing, and -- above all -- I love the way NRG does the Start Menu.

Stock 1.43 T-Mobile UK - with more than a dozen great cabs. Don't want to touch the registry, just in case the phone has to go back for insurance purposes and also because the ROM is pretty fast and excellent, speed-wise. Will wait for T-Mobile update and if it's a good one will get it. Otherwise l'll stay where l am at the moment because there's nothing wrong with my ROM ;-D

Does constant reflashing do damge to phone? My phone is much slower now.

I have flashed my Blackstone many many times now always in serach of the perfect rom. I have now got to the stage where even after a flash and a hard reset, the phone is very slow and laggy. This is also the case after flashing to an official htc stock rom.
Could it be that constant reflashing creates wear and tear (so to speak) to the electronic innards of the phone???
no it doesnt its the rom that makes the phone slow, with all the extra into the rom.also the interface sense 2.5 with the 3 shortcuts is for the HD2 thats 1gig speed.the blackstone is the half of it so its slower,if ya use 6.5 roms
I know one or two chefs who have flashed there phones right to the ground. Rare as it may be, I'm talking the type of flashing where after a day one might hit over 5 flashes. The chances of you and I damaging the phone from a hand full of flashes per month is highly unlikely.
I have flashed my HD maybe hundred times, still fast though. But I have seen also slowed down HD of my friend (hardware related), but we dont know why. He was using stock ROM.
P.S: I can suggest you flash a WinMo 6.1 rom like topix and run a benchmark without installing any add-ons then compare results with different users. There is shared benchmark results @ HD rom discussion .
Hope your device is OK.
Yes I flashed back to the latest official 6.1 rom but to be honest, once you try 6.5, you dont want to go back to 6.1
Can anyone recommend a close to stock rom but with 6.5? Nothing fancy, just the basic touch flo ui etc. No leo sense ui. One that is fast.

for something close to a stock 6.5, try KWBR's Vanilla series rhodium - Dec 19th Rom
Not strictly stock, but you might also want to give it a try is the Topix 3.3

Custom ROM Questions

I have had my HD2 for a month now. Been running the stock 1.48 ROM with all the tweaks and fixes from XDA. Everything works great. The newer 1.66 ROM has just been released in my country (I'm in South Africa, things are a bit behind here), and i was thinking of either flashing the stock or a custom ROM.
I've read on these forums from a fair number of people who claim that cooked ROMS are inherently unstable and suffer from random freezes.
Is there any truth to this. I was running Sakajati's Hyperdragon ROMS on my old Kasier, and they were 100% stable.
Or is the instability a result of multiple ROM flashes without using the MTTY process?
Thanks for your help.
I'd say run the stock 1.66 ROM and see how you get on, it might be fine with a few tweaks. After that, look into custom ROMs if you feel you need one
Hi Eddy.
Thanks for the reply.
I'll give the stock 1.66 a go.
was thinking of changing the original rom

it really depends on your needs and deires... the only thing you can do is look through the various ROMs and then choose one that suits you or that you like... if its not what you want then change it...
I have been looking at a lot of ROMS, have not tried any yet.
I think i will probably go with Laurentius Ultimate power. I like the fact that his ROM includes a Radio, and he also does a lot of beta testing before releasing a ROM.
I've just flashed stock 1.66, will try that for a while. Then go the cooked route.
Duttys HG series are very good, using it at the moment (WinMo 6.5-style as I hate the new new buttons) - link is in my sig for those interested
from my personal experience i can tell you the best custom roms are faster, more stable and also have extra features that make them more fun compared to stock. but for this to happen you need to be careful with your flashing method.there is an excellent thread in the 1st page of the ROM development forum which i recommend you study thoroughly before attempting your first custom flash. also, remember to always flash a stock ROM in between 2 customs (or use mtty) and always hard reset the phone after the 1st boot. roms are also radio sensitive so you might also have to flash different radios to obtain the best combination. perhaps it sounds a little complicated but it's not really and definetely worth to try.
cheers mate and have fun!
deleted double post
If u r looking for stable rom, try 6.5 rom, not 6.5.x.
6.5.x roms is more finger friendly but contain more bugs than 6.5
Try Miri's rom or Xanny's rom. I used both and satisfied with both
Hi Antaed.
Thanks for reply. I've read all the HSPL and flashing posts. Not too worried about the process.
I agree with what you say, on my tytnII, custom ROM was much faster.
Good to hear you're not have stability problems with the custom ROMS for HD2

glad to help mate. i'm not a flash addict (just yet ) so i tried only roms from the notorious chefs - dutty, laurentius, xannytech, energy, etc. i wasn't disappointed by any of them, all are very good but each is different in its own way. my favorite is artemis (from sternas) because i find it closest to my needs - leo only packages, close to stock, essential addons and of course great, great performance. i recommend you try a few yourself so you can decide which is best for you.

What ROM are you using ? Why?

What official ROM are you using?
Please choose and also say on the thread.
Mention if you're using custom ROM as well.
You be the judge.
I'm using Dutty's HG 1.7
Why? I always revert back to Dutty's ROM after using anyone else's ROM because I find his ROM's to be very stable and its stock-like, which allows me to install mods however I want to.
Quiet honestly, you just have to try out the ROMs for yourself, there are plenty of chefs out there that have different tastes, and one of them is bound to be your choice. Just as an example, NRG's Energy ROMs is completely customized when you flash it, CleanEX ROMs are "clean" (only has necessary programs for the phone to run)....those are just a couple that come out of the top of my head.
Just experiment, and you be the judge, don't let others make the decision for you! It only takes a few minutes to flash a ROM!
Happy flashing!
I'm cooking and using my own rom simply because i can't get
the same enhanced experience with any stock rom out of the box.
Best of all roms and mods/enhancements combined.
artemis v8 - why? because it is simply the best rom on our planet!
the only neg point - it doesn´t have the 576mb ram support.

to some that is a good thing!!!
with stock I had 70MB storage lefter after I did all my installs.
On Duttys HG 1.6 I had 170MB free after the same installs.
AS for free memory i had 172MB free on 1.48 stock.
On HG1.6 I have 300MB free.
I never crunched through 172, let alone 300!!!. But given the 576MB I now have a shorter battery life (but not by much), but also some call quality and stability issues, and internet reliability.
2.09 radio is the best IMO.
p.s. I chose Duttys HG because at the time it was 35554 build with the most stripped out and i was looking to test the build. Now there is tons of choice though.
This thread will be locked soon, especially as it's in the wrong forum for a start!!
But I use my own ROM for the record

Maybe not. digitalhater does not ask the best
I'm using a cooked rom. L26V3.0 ultimatepower. because i like the skinning, functionality, stability and speed
Should still be moved to general though!
Using Artemis 8.0 SVE, since its the only swedish custom/cooked ROM i can find. Simple as that.
artemis
artemis rom because:
- the rom is very stable and fast, also very close to stock so i can use the customization i want
- i like the philosophy behind the project: high tech rom based on the latest hd2 packages, no tricks and gimmicks, only the real thing
- i like the sternas' work ethic and his attitude toward his "customers"
I'm using my own custom ROM. I've tried several different ones by chefs, but I always return to my own because it has everything I like and my own custom icons.
I'm using AxLor Leo V.9 WWE Lite Edition. I chose this ROM because it's fast, has cool looking icons already cooked into it and it got everything I need.
Clean EX
Because Stable and very good Job for memory !
1.72 so
duttys HG roms - becouse i follow his work on my diamond, and only dutty roms i had installed on diamond longer than 2weeks, now on HD2 use becouse i know how much experience he must have witch rom building...
I also use Dutty's HG 1.7. it is generally very stable ( should i say less bugs) and very close to bare stock rom
ROM = ROMeOS
Why = it an enhanced OS rom with simple, clean & stable specs.
Not the best one but it only takes less than 15 mins to test it & u can flash other rom back

exactly the same idea as this, cant argue with that.
MIRI,s 23544 V11.
The most up to date ron, exceptionally smooth, stable, fast anx also close to stock but with much better looks.
the best roms for leo?..
simple.. see in my signature
I'm using RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.0 7U_2.06.51.07_Ship and I've just noticed that I have the GPS Photo options in the camera by default. I have no program such as HD 2 Tweaks or BSB Tweaks installed.
It's a clean install of the original ROM and a Task29 has been performed before installing it.
However, it doesn't work...the "Initializing GPS" keeps on loading (didn't tried this outside).
Anyone else has this option by default? Is it a faulty ROM?
I don't think the option should be there however. It's a stock ROM and no tweaks applied so...this is why it's strange. Can anyone confirm?

Differences between O2 and Unbranded ROM's

Hi guys,
I've been using the forum for a year or so now and it's great!
I'm now the proud owner of an HD2 from O2 UK and I've already updated the ROM to version 1.72.206.3, which I believe is the latest, but what are the differences between this O2 ROM and the unbranded ROM?
I've done a search and can't seem to find anything to answer this question.
Hope somebody can help.
thanks
The unbranded ROM?
Which ROM? Do you mean the original o2 1.43 ROM? Not much difference that you would recognise. The volume slider in WMP renders correctly in 1.72 whereas in 1.43 it looked like a poo stain in a pair of underpants. Apart from that forget it. I just includes all of the camera, SMS and other hotfixes which had been released between the two versions.
Do you mean cooked ROMs you can download from XDA? The world of difference. Select a ROM with the features you want from the ROM section and flash it as per the instructions given.
Maybe over the next year you will read some of the posts. Maybe even learn a thing or two
if you do in fact mean cooked roms. then alot.
for me (an energy user) the phone no longer crashes every day. i can install all the apps i want and not hit the memory usage on the phone. The phone runs alot faster, smoother has better apps pre-installed and i just like it more?
After having read almost all threads from the beginning it seems that ALL branded HD2s are buggy to excess ..............
I use an unbranded one, and while once in a while I had some probs with 1.43 since 1.48 it runs as smooth as liquid nitrogene.
I have also installed SKTools and Pocket Mechanic, LeoCPUSpeed V.3.0, CHT 1.6 (the ultimate stable version till now), Chainfire´s 3D-driver and before any mod or installed app I do a backup. In case a new app causes probs I just revert to sit as before.
No single hardreset necessary till now since I unpacked it.
Honestly: I was heavily tried to flash a cooked ROM once, but I refrain from THAT as soon as I read in the specific threads about the many problems some of the users then have with lock-ups, freezes, bricking. And branded HD2s ARE cooked ROMS !
CHT, Franwella, Jaguaralani, Smaberg, MooNah and the many others (sorry for not remembering ALL names, but ALL are geniousses) offer such nice little mods that there is no need FOR ME to experiment with cooked ROMS.
Also on Freewarepocketpc - when is new app is issued - as soon as I read "does not work on HD2" I abstain from installing till a stable version is issued.
difference between o2 rom and unbranded rom
hi
in o2 rom wifi router is missing
Hi all,
Thanks for all the input so far.
Previous to having the HD2 I had an X1 which I flashed with various cooked ROM's successfully and it worked quite well.
Really, I just need to know what is missing on the O2 1.72 ROM that is on the equivalent stock ROM which I assume is 1.48 and would I benefit from flashing a stock ROM to the device.
Would it let me do this with no problems and would it affect the warranty, if it needed reapair, if I did flash it with a stock ROM or would I have to go back to the O2 ROM?

Custom Rom for Speed/Stability?

Hello,
Which is a good rom for Speed/Stability if anybody could reccomend me one, I find most of the custom ones are pretty much focused on Eye Candy and Attractive graphics.
I'm after something that is fast and stable, I guess I can just disable any themes if they come with them etc, as my current ROM (Factory ROM), is a bit buggy the transcriber when typing messages hangs sometimes (whole device freezes intermittently) and when writing on notes the device sometimes freezes, so i thought a custom ROM may somehow fix this and generally improve the speed of the device if anybody has made a custom rom focusing on speed and stability.
If anybody could recommend me a starting point i'd appreciate it as I don't want to go out flashing all of the ROMS out there but rather get an opinion on a good ROM to start off with.
Thanks.
that kind of behaviour is not normal for a stock rom. which exact one do you use (exact version and carrier)?
i personally use the official htc wwe rom 1.56 with the latest radio 1.17.25.09 and have none of the problems you described. but stock roms vary just as much as cooked roms. before this one, i used the very latest shipped rom, i believe it was the orange uk rom wwe 1.59 and it was far less stable, slower and had other integrated apps (and streaming media was missing).
since apparently you have used cooked roms before, have you performed a task 29 before flashing your current rom and are you certain to have performed at least one successful hard reset after flashing it?
MOD EDIT - Move to General forum. Please post all Q&A in General section
Ta
Rick
My details on the startup are :
R 1.09.25.14
G 52.49a.25.26u
D 1.18. 23358
I take it it's version 1.18?
Not sure which carrier it is but my Interface does have a "Starhub" Icon on it.
I don't konw what region my phone is originally from so will see what HTC websites i can download the official firmware from.
It actually freezes not just when using transcriber, it would do it anytime but more so when using transcriber or notes.
I want to install new rom in my phone. New rom would need to be wm6.5 and some older touchflo interface. Manila 2.5 is slow for my touchHD (I bought phone with cooked rom, but then I didnt know nothing about cooked roms).
What is most important to me is to have similar calendar as manila 2.5 calendar (or similar because windows calendar is painful to use with fingers).
So I want as speedy as it can be with wm6.5 touchflo combination.
Any propositions?
