Will we ever be able to customize like the iphone? - Nexus One General

I never owned one but I have played with Iphones. They are nice and I love the fact that you can customize app draw name, service provider name, custom sliders, i even seen a Knicks symbol as the signal bar, make ur own icons in the status bar... ( my friend has The Dharma Initiative sybol )lol
I always try to out shine them boys and Im on forums and they post a screen shot and Im blown away. I absolutely love my N1.Overall I thin its better, But do you think we will ever be able to do this with android?

Are you new to Android? Android is 100x much more customizable than the iPhone. Welcome to the forums btw.

ya this is my first android and I heard about how its more customizable, but how can we do the above? I have yet to see a screen shot that has it..
and thank u for the welcoming as I expect ether in this thread...lol

There are two ways to customize.
1 - Download a Home replacement app from the Market (GDE, OpenHome, etc...)
And then download the custom themes and just apply them.
2- (the fun one) root your phone and then just go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=560
and chose a theme you like and just flash it

Being an army veteran anyone would think you'd know these kinda things. Careful with your apple words 'round these parts.
Could you post some screenshots of these so-called customised iPhones? I'm interested.

Lmao apple words??? Im all about android my friend. As for the military part, u make absolutely no sense, almost disrespectful towards our service members. But thats here nor there... http://www.joebuddentv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68683

That's what you call customizable? That's what blew you away? It's the same-old icon grid after icon grid after icon grid like any stock iPhone, only with different icons and background. Do you see widgets? Do you see... oh I don't know, any average SweeterHome theme will let you do better than this tired-looking piece-of-**** UI. The iPhone may have its good points, but customizability is not one of them.
I hear US army training tends to beat intelligence out of people, but I didn't quite realize how badly.

Maybe you can hack your nexus one ..to make it like an iphone..so you can make it look like a nexus one !!

I came from an iPhone I made look like the hero home screen. It took foreeevver.
Android way easier to skin. Did you not even see the entire forum dedicated to themes with the FIRSt thread about posting screenshots?

What do you guys think about this design?
I was messing around for a little bit and came up with this for weatherpanel, should I attempt to make it happen ?

I like the potential. Some questions on the options shown but will wait a bit until you have developed your concept some more...

What would you reckon instead ?
I like this look and would love to give this a try. Looking forward to seeing your developments on this skin.
would it be possible to use in as a plugin (Ultimate Launch)?

1) Instead of TMW (which I think means tomorrow's forecast), should be a link to the multi-day forecast that like the WP default
2) A link to detailed daily and extended forecasts e.g."Currently 100% with wind from the SW at 5 mph. 0% chance of precip. Sunset at 6, sunrise at 6.", that type of thing.
If that could be displayed in the window as an option, that would be great.
3) Cam1/Cam2 could be replaced by a link to 'graphics' since WP also does a great job with the regional weather maps in addition to the traffic cameral.
I like the visual. if you could incorporate some of the strengths of WP in the same display concept, I think that would be just great. Challenge will be to minimize the drill down that some themes today have before you get to the meaningful data.
Just my 2 cents....
Thanks
i think you're focusing a little bit too much on the visuals of the image box, personally, i think it is useful for weather images and cams, but not that practical to spend that much space for current weather images (sunny, rainy).
instead, it can be used for current weather details (wind, humidity, percip. percentage, feels like, last updated, etc...).
you can also change the "TMW" to "5D" or something similar
I tried to apply some of my suggestions to one of your screen shots, you can find it attached. i am not best known for my artistic talents as can tell , just general ideas and you can adopt whatever you like or ignore 'em all.
it doesn't seem that you were that serious about looking for comments on your design, it has been about 32 hours since your only comment on the topic... i could've used the 30 minutes i spent replying and making that modified screen on plenty of other things.

Calm down buddy. I've actually started making the theme for WP. I also have a real world job and family to deal with, I'm not some 24 hr XDA lurker. Know that your suggestions were taken on board, however I'm not looking to make the main screen more than the basic info as shown in the initial screenshot. The rest of the precipitation, humidity etc will be on a seperate panel, like in phatphingers.
Would you like a refund on your 30 minutes ?

live wallpaper?

i see that we have the capabilities to use animated wallpaper but our stock ones suck booty lol...is there any good ones out there cause i saw some that android uses and theres were pretty cool and im a loyal wm user soo we must compete lol...
agreed! anyone know of any good ones?
I dont but figured I'd bump the post up as I too am very interested
Interested in this also.
bump
Another bump.... I searched previous threads and couldn't find anything useful...
there was a thread full of them but alot of them where just regular ugly wallpapers that people put then threw the animations from the stock ones on top. i wouldnt bother. wait till someone fixes android.
Hello all, I am new here but is there really no other real animated themes out there for win 6.5?
yeah,, i have been looking also, cant find any animated wallpapers that are decent........

Pass on the live pappers
Where are the live pappers
Bump.

Apparently you can get some Live Wallpapers with Throttle Launcher. If that's something you are willing to do. I tried Throttle Launcher .8 and It was buggy and wouldnt work well. But it is just a suggestion.

i have seen a very cool feature on a friends galaxy S. a rotating wallpaper. when he switched screen by dragging behind was a wallpaper of earth which rotated with the screen.
that would be a really cool feature to put on the touch pro 2.
Cheers.

You can get that with SPB Mobile Shell
I've had it for awhile it gets better every time, when android came along, i was like wow I already have this !

This is not about the HW, not about the SW but it's about the Transformer

First, sorry for my poor English. I study in Graphic Design and I'm gonna graduate. This is a part in my last project: series of ads. Of coz when I post this thread it means I chose the TF to work on.
The ASUS logo and all the names are copyrighted by ASUS, but the "Eee Pad Transformer" Logo is designed by me so if you like and want to use my design please let me know (I just want to know if there's S.O interested in my design)

I like the design work. I'm a big fan for clean and uncluttered.
I hope you get a good grade!
Looking Nice !!!
Amazing work! I'd employ you.
I like it.
Simple
Clean
Efficient
and dare I say sexy
Nice! Only suggestion is would it look better with all the letters in lowercase?
So glad Asus didn't put their current "Eee" logo on the transformer other than on the box. I think that logo is just awful.

Thanks for your suggestion It depends on tastes. I like the lowercase choice better but my teachers won't.
And this is the Logo on the light and dark background. I'd like to have a case with this logo on it ^^
I might be a little interested in putting these in some wallpapers for the TF. Got a few ideas in mind for that but need to go a digging and see what I can do.
@OP
IMO of your logo...
The EeePad font has a "leafy" motif, which has a "nature" or "green" connotation. The Transformer font has a mechanistic Tron-like feel, which in tandem with the meaning of the word evokes a mechanized object. To me, the two clash. There's no harmony or synergy.
With any logo, you'd want to have a theme that you want associated with the brand, then shape your imagery to evoke that theme. I'm not sure what theme you are trying to put across.
Edit: BTW, chào bạn, from a Việt expat who originally hailed from Sài Gòn.
The styling doesn't shine clear to me.
I see something that's mean to invoke me, but it doesn't actually pull anything out of me.
Mind walking me through the design and it's intent?
I like the lowercase choice better but my teachers won't.

Visual Exploration ... Suru is born

Visual
Very good visual, cant wait to see it running on my device. :good:
And this Visual Design has a name : Suru ! welcome Suru
but let have a deep look, the phone picture is not the Galaxy Nexus as it used to be.
A hint to the new Hardware ?
Hardware
Maybe the Ubuntu phone to be released in autumn.
looks really great, calendar is a bit weird but whatever
i dont know why but that device looks like a Huawei to me
the os looks great, hopefully it performs well and gets the attention it deserves. though, in this market, that really depends on how many developers embrace the os and get the apps developed so it at least has a chance to succeed. allowing ios and android to get so big really causes problems for any newcomers due to the fact that there are already thousands of apps for both platforms which are now relatively stable, bug-free and full of features, and no one nowadays wants a phone which doesn't have stable, fast apps for everything they want to do.
i think the ubuntu devs definitely got the design right, tho -- the design reminds me of something you'd see in android, but with a lot of the...ideas and practicality that lay behind windows phone, which imo is a better platform than either ios or android for a phone but unfortunately doesn't have the community and therefore the developers/apps to compete.
would definitely be great to see this platform take off so we have another big competitor in the mix!

Don't get your hopes up. The pictures above are nothing more than digital concepts, it's just an artist's impression of what a "new" ubuntu-related generic smartphone would look like.

I agree, almost every other phone is pictured with amazing, beautiful looking wallpapers. and there's droid...
uh oh.
source
Fortunately the above picture is from the Droid Maxx of last year. I don't think there will be a droid style crappy wallpaper. Even the bootanimation is really different from before. From pictures so far, we've seen the nylon wallpaper. I pulled all the wallpapers from the system dump so I could put it on my RMHD, but here's an album of the wallpaper folder on the Turbo for those interested.
http://imgur.com/a/6O5uv#0
Also interestingly, half of the pictures are prefixed by MOT_max, which I guess gives credence to the Moto X Play/Moto Maxx rumor that's been floating around. The other wallpapers have just the wallpaper description in the filename.
Just curious.. why does it matter what wallpaper the device ships with? You can set any image you want as the wallpaper if you don't like the options onboard.
Eh it really isn't a big deal. But I guess it's just looking tacky and dated. Plus it doesn't really show off the screen quality with the usual droid eye. Plus it's kind of an old wallpaper, nothing we haven't really seen before. Not exactly exciting.

Might not be super new and exciting, but brand recognition is also something to consider. They haven't changed the Droid logo with the eyes under the R ever, have they? It might not be a new version because people recognize it and can associate it with being a Droid device.
Just my opinion.
I don't think brand recognition is an issue. Every other phone comes out with a new wallpaper for each phone when it comes out and they manage to have brand recognition just fine.

Actually you're right, I never looked at it from a brand recognition perspective. I guess it makes sense that way. I mean everyone knows how to set a wallpaper anyway so it doesn't matter in the end, but finding wallpapers in 2880x2560 isn't exactly easy though, so it's nice to have a good selection included.
