Can T-mobile Unlimited Web used on Smartphones? - Networking

I have HTC pure which i'm using on T-mobile (US) connection. Now I have the data plan Unlimited Web which cost $9.99 monthly. I was wondering if I could use that for surfing the net on phone. Can anybody tell me the settings?

yes u can i stll have my 5.99 plan lol use internet2.voicestream.com in settings if not then try wap.voicestream.com

but what about proxy...do I need to use any proxy server?

no you dont. theres a way to get that even cheaper $6.99 tzone plan which uses proxy. theres a code that you tell to the billing department of customer service and they can add it in for you. the down side is that you cant get pop or imap mail with the $6.99. the $9.99 plan is similar but it doesnt use a proxy. if i were you, i would get the "tmobile shadow unlimited" plan, at least its somewhat a smartphone plan so if you get called about anything, you can argue that you have the right plan. they will call you up if you suddenly switch to a more superior phone like nexus or touch pro and push you to upgrade. i just use the excuse "im just borrowing and testing this phone from a friend" and they usually buy it and never bother me again.

nope you dont have to do any of that...just use the regular setup and then go into setup...connections...connections...advanced...select networks...and under tmobile data... change epc.tmobile.com to internet2.voicestream.com and reset and u are all done

^^Seems t-mobile needs one whole month to activate a service
they said it wud be done from start of next billing cycle which is like 20days from now

3. Tap on the Connections tab.
4. Tap the Connections icon.

6. Enter T-Mobile Internet in the Enter a name for the connection field.
7. Tap to select Cellular Line (GPRS) from the Select a modem drop down list.
8. Tap Next.
9. Enter internet2.voicestream.com in the Access point name field.

T-Mobile USA: Internet cheaper than $30?

Is there a way to get cheaper Internet access than T-Mobile USA's "Total Internet" at $29.99 per month? For example, I do not need their HotSpots, but they say I cannot remove it without removing the rest of the data plan. Any ideas?
I did a little shopping around. And it appears that the T-mobile Total Internet is the cheapest unlimited plan. The $30 internet is the reason why im moving from Cingular to T-Mobile. If i kept my existing voice plan with Cingular and added their unlimited internet id be paying $110/mo. I can get t-mobile voice with unlimited internet for $70/mo and have 300 more anytime minutes than with Cingular. There may be better deals out there or promotional packages but this was the absolute best ive found so far.
Shane
Aaahhh, the times when we could pay $6.99 for blackberry plan... OK, I guess I'll give up. Thanks, Shane.
you can log into u're t-mo account change u're phone to a blackberry and switch to the unlimited blackberry add-on $20 and switch u're phone back to the MDA. TADA.....you have unlimited internet for $10 cheaper.
try T-MobileWeb ($5.99)

I switched to that, and now I cannot send or receive emails (I use push email if that matters), and cannot browse (with Opera or with IE).
When I click Start - Settings - Connections - Connections - Manage Existing Connections, under there I have "wap.voicestream.com" for "Access point name". Do I need to change that to something else to get T-Mobile Web to work for me?
with tmobileWEB $5.99 you can only use the web browser because tmobile blocks all the ports but 8080 (if you have the proxies) which is used for http. If you want to use email and other apps then you need to go to your account @ tmobile.com and change your current phone for a blackberry, go to plans and services and select the $20.00 add-on internet and your done.

yes, the reason you dont get internet is because you havent setup the proxies. if you just want to use the internet then under connections click on manage existing.. and click on the proxies tab and check the box where it says this connection uses proxies (i think thats what it says) and input this in the space provided under it 216.155.165.50 and go to advance and make sure http is set to 216.155.165.50 :8080
I switched to the $20 Blackberry Internet add-on, and everything seems to work fine now. I just need to see if the bill will be for the $20, and I am all set.
Thanks a bunch, Andyjs.
right now i have total internet so either one is an improvement... so i'll try the tmobile web ($5.99, with correct proxy settings, i assume it allows for unlimited data usage) but is it the same "EDGE" speed as the blackberry add-on for $20?
Here's a thread on HoFo about this:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1159857&page=1&pp=15
I found these directions via another post.
I have the 5.99 plan...I used this for a few mintues of internet browsing and yahoo messaging...gonna wait for my bill to see what kind of charges I may or may not have accrued.
1. Open up your keyboard and get out your stylus because it will make it easier
2. Start menu --> Settings
3. Go to 'Connections' tab
4. Then click on Connections app
5. Select 'Set up my proxy server'
6. Select the 'General' tab
7. On the general tab, name it "WAP" (or anything, really, that's just what I used) -- if you haven't messed with this before, it will say "My Work Network"
8. Select the 'Modem' tab
9. Click on New...
10. Name the connection "Tzones" (again, that's what I used)
11. Under modem, select 'Cellular Line (GPRS)'
12. Click Next
13. Under access point name, type "wap.voicestream.com"
14. Click Next
15. Leave "User name", "Password", and "Domain" blank (not a space, but blank)
16. Click on Advanced...
17. On the 'TCP/IP' tab, ensure "Use server-assigned IP address" is checked and that nothing else is checked or filled-in
18. On the 'Servers' tab, ensure "Use server-assigned addresses" is checked and that nothing else is checked or filled-in
19. Click "ok" in the top right corner (or press the OK button next to your space bar)
20. Click Finish
21. Select the 'VPN' tab and make sure there is nothing here
22. Select the 'Proxy Settings' tab
23. Check the box "This network connects to the Internet"
24. Then you can check the box that says "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet"
25. Then type into the Proxy server box: 216.155.165.50:8080
26. Click on Advanced...
27. Click on "HTTP"
28. The server should read 216.155.165.50
29. Change the port number to 8080
30. Leave "User name", "Password", and "Domain" blank (not a space, but blank)
31. Click "ok" in the top right corner (or press the OK button next to your space bar)
32. And do the "ok" thing again
33. And "ok" one more time
34. Notice 1: at the top of the screen, it should say "WAP" (or whatever name you chose in step 7)
35. Notice 2: where before it said 'Set up my proxy server' now it should read 'Edit my proxy server' -- just FYI, don't touch
36. Click on the 'Advanced' tab
37. Click on "Select Networks"
38. Under both drop-down boxes, choose "WAP" (or the name you chose in step 7) -- I'm not sure the 2nd one needs to be the same, but what the heck, it worked for me; feel free to experiment
39. Click "ok" in the top right corner (or press the OK button next to your space bar)
40. And do the "ok" thing again
41. Push the "e" on your MDA to launch Internet Explorer
42. Make sure you're not connected via the USB cable
43. Go to "Favorites" and choose one of the sites listed there and see if it works
44. If it works, congratulations! Stop here.
45. If it doesn't work, go back to step 1 or ask for help (but I'm no expert, so I think I'll leave it to others to help you)
working on a solution
Until i see the bill i can not confirm, but due to the fact they are wide open and you should be able to have data with out paying for it. I am basing this on the fact that like most companies their parameters are set from what is set up. hense the ability to simply tell them you have a black berry and your charge changes. The system does not set up your phohe it is simply a billing and database mule. With that being said i believe that if you have no data set up on your plan and you get the right proxy you can have full blown internet. I have a phone running full t mobile data but i have no data account. Have not seen the bill yet. My interests are not in the free data it's the voip over the gprs through the satellite.
Again we will see.
i currently am paying the $30 for the internet plan.. and i hate that i have to pay for a hotspot plan that i NEVER use.. does anyone know if theres anything we can do so that t-mobile seperates the internet plan from the hotspot plan.. like maybe a petition or something???
I called about the Hot Spot as well, it is a complete waste of money.
The only reason I have the $30 plan is because I use the browser all the time. Other than that, I don't use email, nor the hot spot. Would the 5.99 plan work for this? Has anyone seen extra charges?
i'm about to get the mda and was hoping to find out if having just the 5.99 one would work for browsing. i hope someone finds out soon.
Wow, I followed the 45 step program, and I'm able to browse and update weather and all that good stuff, and I don't even have a basic ($5.99) TZones account. Nowwww, we'll see what's on my next bill.

that 45 step program is detailed instructions on how to enter the information for GPRS on t-mobile USA. you will get charged whatever your data plan is for it's use. if you don't have a data plan, i think you get charged per kb used...

but 50 no more
Does the 45-step plan above still work on T-mobile network for getting unlimited unrestricted Internet for $5.99?

Don't let TMobile tell you Wing users cannot add TZones.

I just called T-Mobile to add the $5.99/month T-Zones web plan for my Wing, however the rep told me that this plan is not available for accounts with the wing phone. She then tried to sell me the $19.99 data plan, which I declined.
After paging through MyTMoblie account, I found that nowhere does it even mention the $5.99 plan.
To add the plan, you must click the "Not your phone?" link in the upper right hand corner of your MyTMoblie account after logging in. Change your phone to something which will be compatible with the tzones, I picked the RAZR V3. This doesn't give you an upgrade phone, you're not buying anything, this is just TMobile's way of tracking which phone you are using.
Now under the "My Account" tab, choose "Change serves" and add the $5.99 tzones web plan!
Hope I can help someone else out!
i dont think there the same speed but i could be wrong

What are the same speed? The RAZR and the Wing?
It doesn't matter, the Tzones works for any phone configured with the correct proxy, but some reps want you to go for the $20/month full internet plan. If you heavily use the net on your phone, then maybe the full plan would be best for you, but if you are only a lite user, the 5.99 is much more practical for e-mail, weather, etc.
i have the 5.99 plan and i cannot use email or weather.
how do you use it?

You can use the search button here to look up t-mobile Proxy. There have been numerous threads on how to set up the proxy in Windows Mobile
I have been using this proxy for a long time.. I started with tzones back when it was 4.99... glad I save a whole dollar every month.. gonna be rich soon!
Any way to get the T-zones wap browser back once you've flashed your Wing? T-Mobile has closed the proxy hole, and now I'd like to test out T-MobileWeb and see if I like it or if I should drop the $5.99
yea, my wing wont use t-zones... every website comes back with a can't b displayed or w/e it say's....
any1 with us service that uses it till this very day fine??
cuz i got it taken off my account... wondering if i should give it another try
It's been working for me since November 2007, I am in the Northeast USA.
Other than not being able to access Hotmail/MSN Messenger/HTC Home weather, everything else works.
I have been using the T-zones proxy for over 1 year in MN with no problem. I have flashed numerous roms in that time and have no problem setting it back up each time. I also use internet quite often and don't find it to be much, if any slower than the 20 dollar service.
Also, if you flash Trans Open-Touch V6.5 and use throttle launcher the weather will work properly even with the proxy. I have not been able to get it to work with HTC home though.

I hope T-Mobile shuts off all of these free riders
were not free riders were just people who are smart enough to make the system work for us. If your in an engineering position and your able to get the same effect from a lower costing material, you would be stupid not to, and most likely fired. A person who takes tax breaks when hes paying his taxes is not stupid, but he is essentially doing the same thing we are. dont hate just because we are able to pay less for the same result you are getting. thats just my 2 cents, and im hoping the tzones plan will work on the dream as it has on my wing, 8525 and Dash.

So you're saying T-Zones will be on 3G? Sorry, but I am fully aware on how to do this. Nothing to do with ignorance. The system isn't "working" for you and your analogies are far off.
"If you can steal a big screen TV and pay the employee 100 bucks to look the other way, why pay full price for it" would be a much better analogy.
But either way, it may work for awhile longer at 2G speeds. I am sure that it won't be indefinite though. T-Mobile knows what phone you're using by it's IMEI. They're not stupid and will figure out your "black box" method. Would be awesome if they back-charged you for theft of service.

Soo you can still use the brower and it will be at 3G speed with the only 5.99 trick ? if i can get this confirmed i may get the G1 =] im on a T-Mo Wing now =]
Edit: My guess is with time there will be a way to use the Maps software as well.. i dont rly care about email, just browser and Maps ( maybe some apps that need internet access but i think that will be the easiest of all to adjust, Maybe a 3rd party maps software will emerge ?)
Edit2: Also since you guys are talking about it i guess you can get the G1 without adding the data plan (i thought it was required) can u activate the device w/o the G1 data plan ( i know it needs to connect to google acct n etc )
Thanks in advance
there are not free rider because are paying 5.99 for tzone.nothing is free in this country. and of course can't run a lot of program that the other plans where you pay more money can do.

about this plan in g1, the new phone can use 3g,edge etc. all depend of you contract with tmobil. if you plan use full internet, mail etc, you phone will have to use 3g for communicate because you are paying for that, they have in you config account that you can use this feature, BUT if you plan is simple for ej tzone the phone will work with edge only because when it try to connect with 3g speed, you plan dont have this activated.
for this 3g speed work you need two part, that the phone have 3g and that tmobil give you acces to 3g in the servers.

Or cancelled the phone service like Sprint. They cancelled the contracts of like 1000 customers last year for "getting the system to work for them", too.

Learn English and perhaps your arguments will hold water with me.
Using T-Zones will work for basic web browsing, and for gmail, and google chat. T-zone's proxy will actively block the map functions for data etc along with most of the phone features. (The proxy has many closed ports). I am running this way as we speak.
T-Mobile knows about this and they have compensated. They dont mind taking 6 dollars for simple browsing at 3g speeds since you wont barely register on their network. They are already offering such a plan in the UK for a similar price anyways. (yes I am running at 3g speeds for 6 dollars) but my phone is at 30 percent functionality.
If you want to simply browse the web and check your g1 mail then this will work and I am running this way but you will lose out on many of the phone features(actually alot of them) MOST PORTS ARE CLOSED on t-zones.
Anyways have fun.

having trouble using web2go / tzones on wing?

I am having trouble trying to use web2go/tzones on my wing. I got 9.99 web2go plan and when i try to visit any site using internet explorer i always get a message that I don't have the right type of internet plan and I need to upgrade it in order to use internet on my wing. I have used both wap.voicestream.com and epc.tmobile.com with and without proxy 216.155.165.50:8080 it seems like tmobile systems are recognizing my phone type and not letting me use web2go on my wing. I cannot even update weather on my phone. Is there any additional settings I can use or anything else I can do to get web2go working. I only need data plan for very light browsing so I don't want to sign up for expensive plans.
Thanks
If you have web2go, you can NOT use epc, you have to use wap.
On my Wing, under Connections:
Name it something
Modem type is Cellular Line GPRS
Access point name is wap...
User, pass, domain is all blank
Remove any type of proxy settings.
It may just be easier to delete everything you have now and just add that.
Hope that helps.
T-Mobile Data Hack & epc.tmobile.com
I continue to use T-Mobile Web at $5.99 a month and I just installed Ivan's Windows Mobile 6.5 Alpha 11 and added the new APN - epc.tmobile.com and it works just fine. In fact, when I installed his ROM the first time I had no problems accessing GPRS, but the next time I installed it, I couldn't access the internet. Under Connections 6.5 had "wap.voicestream.com" , "[email protected]" and "[email protected]". It was there I added the new APN and ran IE6 Mobile. All that said, if there is a difference other than the price between T-Mobile Web and web2go, I don't know. Before all the changes were made to data plans, I assumed T-Mobile Web was unlimited and I use the hell out of it when I was at work listening to then XM radio and SkyFM. I do know over on MyT-Mobile as on the Wing you can monitor the amount of data used, whether they're enforcing a FAP on the new data plans, I simply don't know. I've never had any problems with my plan and have noted the new APN is faster than the old voicestream wap. Take care!
have sed all ways of web2go apn connections internet2 epc etc. As of today when I try to visit a website, it redirect me to wipcore.t-mobile.com or something like that and it says that I must subscribe to the webConnect but why would I want to pay more and do that? Any help/ideas what I can do?

MYTOUCH use HERO ROM cant use TMOBILE internet

OK guys,i paid for plan TMOBILE WEB $9.99
with this plan i set up the APN is epc.tmobile.com for any fone like IPHONE,ORIGINAL HERO it work like a charm, but how come with MY TOUCH and use with HERO rom i cant do that, its always show me the screen upgrade to 24.99 plan
if you dont believe what img oign to say, load up the mytouch wtih the factory rom and see what happens.
t-mobile has a list of imei's for the mytouches and forces them onto the 24.99 plan.
Strange.
Verify your APNs and perhaps upgrade your plan.
You could even "claim" to T-Mobile that you have certain features without plan information access and they might provide you with the "internet" setting necessary to launch a "WAP" browser.
