Device resetting during memory card I/O?!?! ARGH!!!!! - Nexus One General

Hey all,
I'm having a hell of a time keeping my N1 running during any intensive reads/writes on the memory card. I'm currently running MoDaCo's ERE27 Root with the himem kernel. The device was not resetting before it was rooted. I'm using a 16GB Class 2 SDHC from Sandisk. Currently I don't have another SD to test it with. Until I can get one, what's the consensus on this? Bad root? Bad SD? Bad device?

what do you mean with intensive reads/writes? i have the same sd card (which is labeled as class 2 and is fast like class 6 ). i have transfered a 2gb file from pc to N1 without a problem.

Say for instance, if I've taken alot of new pics, when the Gallery writes alot of new thumbnails, that has crashed the phone, though not always. Copying large caches of files on or off the device always crashes the phone. Using Doubletwist to read the N1's music library has crashed the phone. Scanning the SD card for errors in Windows has crashed the phone (and as a matter of fact, scanning will ALWAYS crash the phone).

I had the same problem with that same configuration. I flashed cyanogens rom and the problem went away.

Getting alot more of "Force Close/Wait" errors? Random timeouts?

Hey all, was wondering is there something that could be causing apps to randomly timeout and ask for the force close/wait? I get it on Messaging, phone, contact random apps.
I do have it rooted and running on the SD card the apps. 2 GB but happened before I moved the apps to SD too some. It works still if I click wait, but just was looking for some insight. Thanks. =)
Out of curiosity, what is the exact SD card you are using? Just wondering if the data transfer rates might mess things up a bit.
Kingston 2 GB is the one, but before that was the one that came with the G1, Just seemed to have have timeout I guess.. but as I said clicked wait and its fine. But just not sure if its a App causing slowdowns or what. Sad part is.. my Free version of the old Power manager keeps crashing out now.
It is your SD card. The one that came with the G1 is a class 2, which is way too slow for something like that. It is recommended you have a class 6 card. I use a class 4 card, and experience a bit of lag. To get around this I chose not to move the cache to the card and I suggest you don't either. If your memory card is slower than a class 4, then I recommend you don't use your apps to your SD.
Well thing is, I had this before when I didnt use apps on SD. Was it still caused by the card before the switch as well? Justwondering. =)
I mean least everything still works fine, I can "live" with the lag on some operations, just wanted to see if it was normal. I know task manager says a few things are open in the background. I didnt know shopsavvy stays open in the background tho.. (even after a restart)
actually i have a class 2 8gb sd card and i have about 60 apps to sd and phone runs fine o_o

Possible anti-freeze for TMOUS HD2/HD2s in general?

http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/windows-phone/f/90/t/1651.aspx
It was the same conclusion I was coming, but this verified it.
The shotty class 2 SDHC and the fact that I'm installing core apps to the main memory....giving me **** performance.
Will try my class 6 SDHC 8gb card tonight and install everything to the card.
pictures/messages/etc
No, it doesn't work.
I thought it did until I installed apps and started using the phone normally.
Fail.
All apps installed onto sdhc
Must be your phone. I install all my apps in the main memory and never had a freeze or anything. The wife and I love our HD2's. It has never frozed on us. Especially mine, because I'm the tester for all the cabs I could find and tweaks there is out there.
The only time I got it to freeze was when I was editing the registry. Also, the card that came with the TMOUS is a cheap card. Just use that for storage and nothing else. There should be plenty of room in the main memory for apps.
One other problem is BSB tweaks messes with you during calls. But there is a simple deselect fix for it.
Dammit, I wish I would have read this before I ordered a 16 gig class 6 memory card! Lol, oh well, I guess it won't hurt to have it.

darkphantom, I think the issue isn't with the card itself, but rather the phone indexing it when it's full of lots of smaller files (like when you install apps on there). With the generous amount of storage memory on the HD2, you should be able to safely install apps to the phone...this phone sidesteps the reason why people started installing apps to the cards in the first place on older hardware, to get around limited on-board storage. Apps will always run smoother/faster from the phone memory anyway, and I have a strong belief that a large part of the SD card problems HD2 owners are experiencing are actually due to not the total volume of data on the card, but how many files there are. Try running the phone with no card in it, or with a card that only has, say, a handful of media on it...I think you'll see a difference.
EDIT: adam...did you try running it that way too yet? I'll get back to your PM on the other issue in just a bit here

That defeats the purpose of a memory card....
If you have hundreds of songs...what then? GPS files aren't big, but they are numerous.
I got a new one today, will try it out, if not ...selling it.

If I remember correctly the memory card slot only has the speed capabilities of class 2 anyway (the speed transfer between the phone & the memory card), but I could have read the specifications for the port wrong. So I haven't seen the need to upgrade the memory card, but that's just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I'm not arguing that at all...just wanted to validate the idea that the volume of files on the card are a more direct cause of the issue than the speed of the card. I just believe whatever algorithm they used for that isn't terribly efficient, and can get bogged down (and unstable) when it has to read and sort too many metatags.
I'm done with the phone. Tested the new unit by just turning it on and seeing how it was working.
Same issue.
Its For sale.
Good luck to everyone!

[Q] Speed of Focus with Memory Card Installed

I was wondering if anyone has done a test of a Focus with and without a memory card installed for speed. There are Youtube videos showing that the Focus will boot into games faster than the HD7. The thought seems to be that the HD7 is using SD cards and the Focus is using NAND memory.
If you install an SD card in the Focus does it slow down because it is now also using SD memory and that is now the bottleneck?
When I installed a class 6 16GB MicroSDHC, I did hard reset via the att website instructions, not the quick guide ones. It showed around 22.?GB of space. I got errors when trying to use Netflix, YouTube, and few other apps. When I powered off and back on my memory was wiped, and it showed around 15GB space. I din't have time to notice speed. As far as browsing the phone it didn't seem different with or with out memory.
If WP7 truly stripes the data between NAND and micro-SD, it should be faster with the card as long as the SD card is not twice as slow as NAND memory (assuming you use an 8GB card). Would like to hear the real life results though.

[Q] Rebooting Issue, Help needed!

Hello Ya'all,
First and foremost, I would like to thank the forum and its members for the great supply of information and technology.
Device: HD2 is currently running YukiXDA's Windows Phone 7 ROM
Storage Device: Sandisk 8GB Class 4 MicroSDHC
Issue: I flashed my phone with Windows 7 after formatting the SD card with SD-Card formater for optimal results. The installation went perfect, the SD card was recognized, etc. and everything was working perfectly. I added pictures and music to it, no problems; however, when I put an additional album onto the HD2, the phone started freezing and rebooting quite frequently, with the occasional Storage card error; thus, I assumed (and read) that adding a little more music would patch up the problem. I tried it and to my surprise, the rebooting decreased, but the problem still persists. I know some of ya'all are probably wondering: "Go buy a new SD card," However, this is one of the cards that is known for being compatible quite frequently; thus, I can't be too sure whether I'm just wasting money or not. Any help would be appreciated.
This might sound hilarious; however, after updating to blackseven mango, my phone has not rebooted for the past 6 hours (It is infamous for rebooting every hour or so). I am going to test this out one more night and see what the problem is. I'm sure it is not related to the roms; however, it would restart with every NoDo Rom, but for some reason, it hasn't with this one.
sd card
Its most likely your SD card I personally have never had any problems with restarting and I have the Samsung SD card that came with my us hd2

the adding of music is the key, ive found that my card has portions that are fine, in fact its super quick and stable, but if i go and install something it will start resetting, if its the same issue as mine then keep dumping 50MB of junk on it until it becomes stable, i honestly do not know why this works unless WP7 is so sensitive to IOPS that even the slightest hicup will make it reset

Hi
I have had problems with alot of reboots, up till 5 per hour and some times when booting it just get stuck on a white og green screen so that i have to pull the battery. But that was untill i found this yesterday, i filled my phone up(from over 10 gb free to only 2gb free) and now it is running sooooo smooth not a reboot yet
So people with random reboots might noth have to by a new sd card. ???
Wish i found this before i ordered a 16 GB class 10 hehehe
Just a quick report back on this, after filling my sd card up with music i only had ONE reboot last night in stead of rebooting many times per day else it has been running all smoth.
So i must say this is a great result by just adding music to the phone
HTC HD2 with cm7 hyperdroid
Hi my phone randomly reboots a lot ive rooted it and flashed cm7 hyper droid- v10.4 "estatic eagle" android version 2.3.3 build #GRI40 a long time ago but now recently it just started randomly rebooting. i believe it started when i tried to update the rom from rom manager to a newer cm7 hyperdroid but for some odd reason my phone also doesnt reboot into recovery mode to put a new rom on it. please help. its getting irratating. thank you

32GB SD card issue - validated card as 32gb

I purchased a 32GB micro SD card for my HD2 after my 16GB card died last week. A sad day indeed, but an ideal time to upgrade
I've read a lot of threads on the forum about some people having issues with 32GB cards, and fake cards. This has prompted me to run H2testw, and also try formatting using SDformatterv3.
HD2testw - Verified as OK.
SDformatterv3 - Completes OK.
Now, when I add the newly formatted card to my phone, it mounts, and works fine. No problems at all. I then start to fill up the card with music. I firstly copied about 5GB to the card, and again I had no problems. The card works fine in the phone. I then copied another 10GB to the card. However now I have a problem. With the SD card in the phone, the phone hangs. When the phone is in standby, I press the power button and I get a black screen. If I remove the SD card then it starts to work correctly again.
So, my first thought was, duff card. So, running the programs above verified that the card is OK.
So, I am now wondering if the phone actually supports 32GB correctly (IE, when more than 16GB of data is on the card). I also thought that perhaps the ROM I am using is the problem.
I am running [CWR] BOYPPC-SHIFTPDA_GINGER 2.3.4-Sense.s V25 (24.May) ROM. I see that V35 is the most up to date rom, so perhaps I will need to reflash my phone. I will be testing this later today.
Has anybody else found themselves in a similar scenario, and did you find a solution?
Cheers,
I figured it out. Turns out to be a combination of things.
1) MIUI player locking up when trying to scan newly added music
2) Locking up because of some corrupt files
Tracking down the bad files resovled the problem

good to see you solved it, cuz i have a 32 gb class 6 and no problem.
some to notice its that to some ppl a 32 gb class 10 works with some bugs, a class 4 or 6 seems to works better.
PS: if you are a flashaholic like me, you should have partition your sd card with CWM partition option, so you could use some of the beneffits of sd/ext that some ROMs use
So 32 Gb works well with Htc Hd2. But, it depends which company and speed.

That's the thing: I bought brand new 32 GB SanDisk and am using MIUI JB. Constantly upgrading with their daily build to new versions to no avail.
Problem: I filled card with my files to listen. Initially it works alright, after some time however I find some folders are gone, some files are gone, things just dissapear from the card.
Now I wonder is it a card, is it a MIUI JB or is it HD2 that got broken after my intensive use. Some electronics burnt down or something.
Does anybody had this issues : combination of HD2 with MIUI JB on 32GB card (NAND or SD - both). Keeps losing files in very consistent manner.
I also checked the card with different software and formatted it many times and re partitioned.
As an experiment I am trying now old 8GB card to make sure if its card or not.
