Fixed you were quick

yes, this means i can remove the extra buttons and make my phone eligible for a WP7 upgrade!
cool

Does anyone know where we can get spares for the HD2 yet? I ask because a hard case I bought for my HD2 ended up scratching the sides of the housing. At some point I'd like to replace the housing as it's the only part of the handset with any marks on it. I'd also like to replace the speaker if possible when a confirmed, crackle-free one is on the spares market.
DC

Someone needs to grab those videos before HTC get youtube to pull them.
I'd do it but I'm not sure how!
First off, the disassembly looks like a painful process especially the bit where you need to get an oven involved.
I can't even get a screen protector on properly!

Oh boy, I'm never ever gonna attempt this. I'm positive it would kill me
Nice to see though.

Nice video. But no going to try it too

Cheers for the info.

I wonder if there's a drill within HTC to train the speed of the assembly and disassembly process, like how we do it in military for assemble/disassemble weapons

That is pretty dinged up. One can always buy a housing though. But the ones I have seen are pretty expensive.
Maybe somebody could get this and a housing and make a How To change housing?
yea she aint pretty but im thinking someone who needs a back up phone for testing roms and such
Wow, I thought mine was in bad shape when someone said "I didn't know those came in black..." "They don't. It's frying grease that's soaked in."
hahaha. I thought I was bad with my phone. I got pissed because I got a little scratch on the screen!
If someone does have info on changing the housing, I might be interested in picking it up. I was gonna buy it to give to my dad so he'd get off his stupid Palm Treo 680 ... but if its all banged up, I would just have to keep it to experiment with then.
Well I'm a cook at one of my jobs and I'd rather keep my wing in my pocket than in my coat or car where it could get nabbed. I guess it's the lesser of the two evils. My screen is flawless though, thank you jerito... I mean screen protectors!

Spares for the Athena, anywhere?

Can anyone lead me to where to find a spare enclosure (not an external case).
The one that holds the whole thing together. Ok I need some help here to find the right term
My Athena fallen and I now got a bent Athena. An art piece I'm sure, but rather have it back to its shape, you know?!
So does anyone know where to find spares?
why dont you take a picture so we could see what exactly you need
Will need to find a mirror as it is the only camera I have
Anyhow I just find what it is. Is the SHELL. The black aluminum shell.
Is anywhere to be found it as a spare?
Thank you

Thank you.
I ordered the spare casing. Will post how it goes....
Sorted!!
I have received the casing, followed instructions and I now have a bright new Athena
The only bad thing is that the camera button and the volume sliders are missing from the replacing casing. and the camera button is a nightmare to take it over from the old one.
If anyone needs assistance with replacing the casing, just PM and I'll do my best to help.
So which did you get in the end, the brando one?
I'm contemplating doing mine at some point, it's pretty scarred.
I did go for the brando and it took about a week to receive it in Scotland.
The instructions are quite easy to follow, but the tools are a must, specially the flat tool to push the parts open. I got mine here when I repaired my powerMAC a few weeks ago.
does someone know where to get a new digitizer? my one is broken (the LCD itself is still fine) and I ordered this one. But they refunded me my money and said they are out of stock
Any suggestions?
Try the brando website.
It looks like they have a lot of spare parts...
If you can't find it, try to contact them, I got a few parts not listed this way.
Good luck

they said they are out of stock but they promised to contact me if they get some "digitizer-only"
currently they only have full LCD screens for £150
as far as I can see the dealer seems to be realiable...

replace lcd/digitizer

My screen is cracked to all hell. Is there a youtube video showing a strip down of the epic? Is there a guide on how to replace it? I have the lcd and ditizer,so I'm all set except for the actual replacement. LOL
Tia
would you mind sharing the source for the screen/digitizer for those that haven't broken their screens yet ?
Just curious.
I do not know how to tear it down yet though.
Thanks for sharing.

You sure you got the right screen? Epic uses SAMOLED, not LCD... also, the digitizer and the LEDs are part of the same construct (one of the reasons it's "super"), so you'd effectively be really just changing the display with integrated digitizer. The glass itself is glued to the plastic case. You'd need to find a way to pull it up, from what I can tell. (I have not ever taken one apart, but it is almost certain that it is a glued screen, which explains why some people are having peeling issues (my Evo had this.))
There is not much for the Epic but some info for the original Galaxy S

yea i was just saying "lcd" i got the right one i know
taking a look at the links below
ok well by the looks of it, its pretty much the same thing. i talked to a tech at a repair center, and he said he MIGHT be able to do it. if not, i think i probably have about 70% chance of getting it right. the video showed a break down right down to the digitizer, and it looks almost EXACTLY like that i have, so in theory, i should just have to go as far as gettting the back off, and putting the back BACK on the NEW digitizer/amoleisupmyassed, right?
also, just for clarification, i know i have the right one bcuz i can see the button whole thingies and its the same as what the epic has (menu, home, back, search)
thanks for the useful links& help guys

just curious...so sprint installed the screen you purchased or they installed one of their own? I had to do this on an htc phone a while back and it was much easier than I imagined.

I've watched a video for another galaxy phone ... the reason I'm nervous about this one is because on the Epic the screen is on a separate part of the assembly because of the keyboard.
Also: The video shows how to take it apart .. but not how to put it together again. Do I need to glue it together again? What type of glue?

I still don't understand, why are you out of warranty? samsung offers a 1 year warranty...
does one not have to deal with sprint?
Does changing the software so that it runs on a different network not void the warranty?

No even though Sprint has it in their system as marked "bad esn" samsung will not have to do with this. Although I don't think Samsungs warranty covers accidents, such as dropping your phone and cracking the screen.
Hope you get it figured out!
Sincerely,

Well Samsung has their own warranty thing...but I would confirm by contacting Samsung..don't tell them you swapped networks or anything of course..otherwise I don't think they would bother to check...
You can always flash it back too..unless phone doesnt work completely?
I got the whole screen + keyboard for under $60 on ebay. It turned out to be as simple as unscrewing and unsnapping the cover, disconnecting three connectors, removing the electronics and putting them in to the new frame. If I'd have to do it again it wouldn't take more than 15 minutes.

[Q] Replacing the Surround's Screen?

I managed to scratch my HTC Surround's screen when I dropped it the other day. It's a fairly large scratch and it's bothering me enough that I'm looking to get it fixed. I've seen some auctions on eBay for the HTC Surround's digitizer but have no idea how I would go about removing the screen to replace the digitizer. ifixit's guide doesn't seem to show how either. Am I better off just seeing if HTC can repair it? How much do you think it'd cost?
I owned a Tilt for a very long time, so long, that I replaced almost every part of the phone. This was a difficult and time consuming process. I would definitely find out what it would cost to have it done professionally and compare that to what the digitizer plus tools to disassemble your phone would cost. Not to mention any warranty you might no longer have, labor, possible damage...etc.
As far as I'm concerned, having a legit reason to take apart my phone is right up my alley, so it's all up to you. Either way, let us know how it works out and I wish you the best of luck.
PS, pics will be awesome if you do!
HTC gave me an estimate of about $120. However, the person on the line said it may end up being more and if I decide to not go through with the repairs, it'll be $39 to get it back. So I did some Googling and found Mission:Repair. Apparently they offer Glass/Digitizer screen repair for just $99. They have some good reviews on Yelp but it's mostly for iPhone's, iPods, and MacBooks. I think I'll give them a shot and post a review on them later.
That sounds decent and worth not having the hassle. Definitely keep us updated and I wish you luck!
How much was the digitizer + Shipping and whatnot

Now this video would be a high five if it showed how to get to the screen but it does nothing but give you a video representation of the ifixit.com's walk through that only goes that far.
I myself bought the new digitizer and it came with the tools and all....I couldn't figure out how to get to the screen. I ripped the thing into pieces but couldn't get the screen section to budge.
Edit:
I wound up taking it to a local shop. I could barely tell what they were doing. I couldn't see how they got the two halves apart but the screen itself is well glued into place. The final review by the guy was "it was a pain in the ass". :/
I did it
I did it and i uploaded a home-made video. Look at the Surround General Forum.

G900v: Replacing the Charging Port Questions

Hello!
Lately, my G900V is on the frits... poor cell phone service / reception... and the charging port is damaged. I can charge the phone but only if I slide the charger in just right... and set it down perfectly. I lost the charging port cover within a month of owning it and clearly this was a mistake to not replace.
Anyways, I really don't need a phone with more power than the S5. I rarely use my phone anyhow now that I work from phone and would like to simply attempt a repair before getting a new one. I have plenty of PC building, keyboard modding, soldering experience and so on. It really doesn't seem hard.
Will this part be fine to use on the G900V? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...nnector-USB-Port-Flex-Cable-USA-/181409293678
It says it's for a different model but I imagine this portion of the phone is identical to other models. Maybe I'm wrong.
I have the tools required for the job, minus a heat gun. I imagine I could get it done with a blow dryer.
Anyways, I could use words of encouragement or suggestions before moving forward. Let me know if there's anything special I should pick up, tips, etc.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLWUPlHITA8 --- I plan to follow this guide.
Thank you,
Bryan

also a blow dryer will work no problem just make sure to get it very hot but dont overdo it.
Take your time and be patient.
Use plenty of guitar picks

I found it easier to keep a few between the screen and the frame to keep it from settling back into the frame.
It's just what helped me. You may find an easier way or just one might be easier for you.
Either way that's just what worked for me.
