Battert low very quick with cooked ROM's - Touch HD General

Hi,
My battery is getting very low very quickly when using cooked ROM'S. I've cooked them via USPL. Can this be the reason ?
With HSPL I had less issues. I have to charge my phone daily, altough not using that often..

You tried different radios?

What do you mean with radios ? Different ROMs ?
Yesterday I installed the orig!inal stock one again, and battery was empty again this morning

Read the wiki about radios then check this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466274

installing the cooked rom with hspl or uspl should make no difference in battery drain. It is possible that it's the radio as stated above. It could be just a setting like constant data being turned on (or worse Push is enabled). Also, it could be the battery dying.

Also check if other options are enabled such as Beam or your Data Connection (it may be set to roam).

Charge with phone off
Try draining the battery to about 5%, Turn phone off. Charge fully.
Repeat this process 2 or 3 times.
It's worked for me before.

Thanks for all your tips guys..Can I just install the latest radio without any issues ? Is this supported by HTC ? Do I loose any guarantee when this is performed ?

Yes, you can install the latest radio (1.17) with the matching rilphone version (1.14). Hopefully you should not have any issues but remember that these Radio versions are specific to regions, so it may or may not work better for you - just because you have the latest Radio version does not mean it will work better for you. When I had my HD, I upgraded to Radio 1.17 with Rilphone 1.14 (not if its already cooked into the ROM), this resulted in better reception and signal strength, better battery consumption, etc. If you do not notice any improvement after flashing to another Radio version, just flash to another and see which one works for you. By flashing your Radio version from stock, this will void your guarantee as you are changing from your stock Radio version to an updated version. This is the same when upgrading to another ROM (custom) from stock.
You can always revert back to stock ROM and Radio versions when required, so do not worry

Device and battery were send to repair center. No problems found there. Tonight charged completely, this morning only 50% left, at noon completely empty. I am now using L26HDLEOV4_NLD with radio 1.13.25.24 / 52.62.25.34U. iIt seems I cannot update radio with this ROM. I could before I uploaded this rom, but the rom overwrote the radio again. A possible reason could be the microSD card (as said by repair center) but cannot see this as a reason. Any help is appreciated !!! Thanks in advance

Run this little prog and report back what your drain is.
Give it a while and it still runs when the screen goes to sleep.
My results show a drain of minus 31mA when sleeping.

I had this type of problem (almost similar).Battery drained drastically (more than 60% in less than 5 hours)....I'm listing down what i did...let me know if this helps.
I had this problem mainly when i
(1) Installed 6.5 roms,
(2) changed my geographic location
(3) changed my simcard.
I'm stating them because bcoz i did these things simultaneously.
bcoz of extensive battery drain,I even bought a new battery and tested my old one with a friend in HTC service center (my old battery worked well with his HD).but my new battery behaved same as old, in my handset.
then i tried "one -at-a-time" approach.
I switched back to 6.1 roms....no change
i couldn't shift back to my old geographic location (so i set it as least)
I swapped the sim card of another friend and checked with intial charge of 60% for the whole night...guess what?...it worked....
whenever you subscribe for new service better get to know if your provider has better coverage in your locality..
after installing sim card..just observe the letter which appears to right of signal bar on task bar....if the letter (in my case it is "E") appears inside a checkered box...it means your phone (i mean battery is dying to get hold of signal) will drain faster than you expect even without being touched!!!
from my experience...signal strength/coverage plays equally important role as any other parameter...now i'm using another sim card from same service provider but plan is different...my phone now behaves as good as it was
excuse my tedious essay...but i think cost of HD justifies this
P.S:This is an outcome my own experience
Let me know if this helps

My battery test was saying -134Ma in enlightened screen mode, -68Ma in dark screen mode and -32Ma in sleep mode...

Hi,
I always have an E in my start menu task bar... so this is not good :-(
I tried 2 batteries and already received a new HTC device.
I did not have issues with battery with previous device.
So or the motherboard or the SIM card can be issue. I also read about SD card with can drain attery ?

Your battery drain looks fine.
I would look at the possibility that the device is not charging the battery fully.
It indicates 100% when it is in fact only part charged.

I would ask the service people to look at this.

I agree with Andrew. Did you try what I suggested earlier? This method is supposed to reset the battery ie. make the phone charge it to 100% rather than 40 -50-60 etc. It worked for me and I was going nuts with the same problem.
Also make sure you have wifi set to turn off when you go into sleep mode.
Sammy

When my battery is fully charged to 100% it shows green so I assume it is also a 100% charge, not ?
Making me nuts also.
This afternoon completely charged after fully drained, now again 66% :-(

Last night I disabled phone mode (so went to flight mode) and battery only got from 56% to 53% so it has something to do with polling the network constantly I guess ?

Really dumb question.
If I have updated my ROM from Stock to Miri's ROM WM 6.5 Rev 21.
Is it possible to update the Radio without messing with the ROM or is it like both have to be installed at the same time.
If I can change my Radio without messing with ROM, how do I do that?
Many Thanks.

batt low
i had the same problem and found out that it was because i had a program running that constantly searches for a 3g data signal.... when you look in Wireless controls in settings tab does the data connection tab keep turning on and off???????????
i had to delete the prob from win startup and it wasnt in the remove prog under settings. hope this helps a bit. roaddogg!

get a different phone?
Are you saying your battery is dead 1 day after continuously having this program activated? If so, I'm amazed the battery lasted that long! How old is your device and battery? Does the battery charge o.k. when it's plugged to a charger?
Hi Hotdog,
Thanks for your reply.
My device is 1 year old and the battery drains even when the phone is inactive(battery charges just fine).
Before installing NBD, the battery lasted like 3 days (not really an active user of the phone) and now only 1 day.
Am i the only person experiencing this issue around the forums??
Device info:
ROM version 6.6.6.666 WWE
ROM date 8/23/07
RADIO version 02.19.11
Protocol version 4.1.1309
MDA Vario T-mobile AKU2 model.
Thx.

Ive seen many people with this problem. all I can suggest to you is, lower rom numbers on WM6 use up the battery faster. I dont know why that is but that is the trend.
Im not suggesting you go out there and get 2.69 radio rom. the higher you go the more unstable the rom is. all Im saying is, it might be the radio rom mixed with WM6. try a reflash back to wm5 and see if battery is back to 3 days.
One other thing you can try is drain the battery completely, recharge it fully, drain it a second time and recharge it fully again. sometimes when you flash the battery memory gets messed up, it's happened to me once.

Thanks for the reply elmetal!
That brings me to my second question,
Is there a Radio ROM out there for my T-mobile that is stable and runs smooth under NBD 8.0?
What comes after RADIO version 02.19.11? 2.69 radio rom?
I did actually flash back to the original T-mobile NL ROM (latest version)
And there the battery is functioning as expected.
(you can really tell, in the afternoon, the battery is almost at 50% with NBD)
Thank you so much for your help! really appreciated.

hmm.. I never focus much on tmobile users with radio problems, more cingular users. some say the 2.47 works, some say the 2.69 is flawless, I personally use the cingular 2.25.11. it's the stock cingular rom and it works fine.
Im gonna give the forum a good look for tmobile radio rom threads and ill redirect you
I suggest you try the cingular 2.25.11 (being that tmobile in the us uses a lot of cingular towers) since its really really stable.
EDIT
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314235&highlight=t+mobile+radio+rom
try that, its a decent thread on the ROM workin in the UK, Im not exactly sure where you're stationed but the point is this, there's probably an existing thread out there.
Only thing is, many different people have many different results. Updating Radio ROMs is a little dangerous for me cus the calls I receive can be very important so I try not to mess with it.
Install a new radio rom, leave your phone in standby for a few hours and test texting and calling to see if itll wake up on its own, some roms wont work well. trial and error
Goodluck!

Point taken
Will do some more research on Tmobile Dutch(Netherlands) Radio Roms to see if that helps.
Thanks for all the effort elmetal!
Nope it's not the Radio Rom 2.19 is the most stable and loses less energy.
The 2.69 radio Has more problems keeping the signal so it uses more energy to maintain the signal, and of course you might lose some calls here and there.
Earlier posts do indeed have the classic basic Battery drain tips.
But what about deleting the items from the Windows\StartUp folder?
Flash a fully loaded battery.
How about borowing my new battery and see if it makes a difference since my wizard is on repair.
Some users even have reported that 8.2 actually was better on the battery then 8.3.
Some believe that it might have something to do with the memory leak problem most Wizard roms have issues with. Keeping more memory reffreshed does require more power. So try to set the weather plug in to only update mannualy set the homescreen to not time out. Or try setting up the included smartskey to overclock instead of Battery status althought i don't think that battery status causes isseus.
Or do a Combo. Drain the battery recharge it perform a hard reset or clear storage. You could also try a lower pagepool rom version, nowadays you can change the pagepool without reflashing. Lower is slower but again it uses less memory. You could also use wizard registry wizard to change the font cache to lower setting and other cache settings.
My advice is to charge as less as possible as my USB connector got ****ed.
I tried the 25.11 on T-mobile network but quit using it as it either froze the ROM or could just not connect.
Or yes you could get another phone
Also make sure you change the settings of the network registry to not automaticly scanning for the network.

I have a MDA and I am running WM6 and using the 2.69.11 radio and I have no problems. I found that changing the task manager settings so that the program actually closes when you click x helps increase free ram and also, don't use any overclocker software such as battery status(it kills your battery and it doesnt make that much of a difference anyways...). Another thing you want to do is disable the today timeout under today settings. that tends to use more ram and thus, kills the battery faster.
See i knew i wasn't crazy about the today timeout
Thanks for the confirm.
I had the same problem with I upgraded to 8.1. Battery drain was pretty bad.. Usually getting home from work, I'd still be in the 90's with moderate texting, but with 8.1 i'd be in like the 50's. I just went back to 7.9.
The problem isn't the ROM... it's the audio manager from HTC, that sucker eats battery like I've never seen... been having this issue too, until I stoped using the audio manager and started using windows media player!

Same here i (as in i didn't actually notice it) but i stopped using the audio manager in favour of WMP as it gave better reactions to using the Stereo Bluetooth headset. As in Audio manager sometimes did not pick up the next and previous commands or would stop playing.
As i said i never really paid attention and i can only speculate that the battery drained faster when i did use Audiomanager.
Just goes to show that closing apps completely is always the best practice.
BTW, dferreira.
Ai's it Funny how one month after your WM5SE release people actually reacted after my post
What is your reason to use WM5 base?
WM5 is the native OS for Wizards... so, I find it to be more quick than WM6... Never gave me problems, like WM6 did. WM6 is just a face lift on WM5 so... I'm trying to make it as good as WM6 but quicker

Battery Problem Blackstone

Hi, I'm new in this forum, and I don't speack English well, so I want to excuse me!
I have the new Touch HD, at the beginning I changed immediately the original ROM with a new one, I installed a lot of programs, and everything woked very well for two weeks, but then I had a big problems with battery...a the first the battery was very good, -10/15% per day, but suddenly after two weeks the battery lose 1% of its charge every 2/5 mintes...if I disconnect the power when the battery is 100%, after one hour without use (and also without wifi, BT and GPS), I have 70% of charge!
I try to change the ROM, a friend suggested me a new upgrade for Radio, but I didn't resolve my problem!
Now I buy a new battery online in htcstore, but if I put my mobile in "Fly mode" the battery work very very good!
I want to say that here normally I have the signal indicator with 2/3 nicks, so the signal is good!
Someone can help me?...someone have my same problem?
Thank you so much fo everything!
Greetings, Eddy
the battery will be used up quickly if your fone is constantly searching in and out for a 3g signal, regardless of 2g signal strength
have you got wifi on?
bluetooth?
a gps app running?
what other apps do you have running in background? some really poll the cpu a lot and will lead to battery drain
other than a dodgy battery, it must be some software running that is using up the battery
Thank you for aswering!
In background normally I have SMS o Contacs, but also if I close every programs in background the battery doesn't work well!
No, Bluetooth is OFF, GPS and WI-FI are OFF, I use telephone just with gsm!
Also when I write message, normally I write a message so long (3/4 messages), after wirting, the battery lost 10%, and I didn't have this problems at the biginning!
I left my mobile on also during the night, and in the morning I had again 100% of charge...now 100% it's a far dream!
try turning off the autoadjust for the screen and setting it at a medium setting, also make sure the backlight turns off after a minute or less.
its a huge screen and will burn up power, although saying that i watched a full length film on my HD the other day and only used 20% in 1.5hrs
if no progs are running in the background and its not a display issue (how have you checked whats running btw? need more than just WM taskmanager, try mem maid or similar) and the problem is not there when in flight mode. then i can only assume its the rom you are using, try another with a different radio rom in it
i found roms with 1.10 radio to be better than 1.09. try this rom (mulitlanguage) works good for me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=465637
edit: have you got HDTweak installed? its good to configure the data to auto turnoff after 1 minute or so (even in gsm gprs could be running)
I tried to setup the new ROM but I didn't resolve the problem!
If I leave my mobile only with GSM on, without use it, without call and sms, the battery lost 2% in 30 minutes, and it's not normal!
If I use it, change settings, write message, the battery lose 5% in five minutes!
I don't know what I have to do...this mobilie now can't live without a power connection!
I want say also that at the beginning some application in my HTC wanted "HTCAPI.dll" because they didn't found into the mobile...so I found this dll online and I did copy/paste into the directory!
It can gave me problems with battery?....I don't know how it's possible, but I don't know!
Try to buy or borrow another HD battery and compare them. You should know the problem then.
Of course, I alredy bought it online, and I'm waiting to get the shipping!
But it's very strange that a battery stop to work suddenly, but I know that there are a lot of people who have my same problem!
If i were you, i would flash back the original rom and do a hard reset. Then, without installing anything on the device, see if the problem persists.
Thank you ardsar...I want to try....can you tell me, what I have to do to obtain the original product?...without hardspl and new rom?...like the first time that I turned on this HD! Thank you so much!
For example, I have your same SPL and ROM at the moment!
Hi Ardsar, I flashed my ROM and SPL (brand), and now my mobile is like the original but....do you know Teeter?...I played 2 minutes, I completed 3 levels, and from 85% the battery is now at 79%...
Hi guys...yesterday I did a lot ot tests, but without positive results, but I fund out new problems:
1)The bettery lose a lot of charge also if my Blackstone is offline, when I use it with TouchFLO, Teeter, SMS, Settings...everytime!
2)I have near to icon of signal, the simbol of GPRS, but sometimes it changes with the simbol H and with this new symbol, the signal falls and to resolve it, I have to wait a long ore reset the mobile.
Now I'm not sure that the "target" is the battery...I don't know, I changed also the Radio ROM with new last, but the problem is not over!
Before put it into garbage case, someone can suggest me something to try?
...I will never bring it to Assistence HTC, because I will have to wait some months, and I didn't pay 500€ to have it "under repairing"
Do you have SK Tools 4.4.6 or another battery monitor installed?
With SK Tools, you can see under the sys info the current battery use. My usage is in standby with lighted display -100mA. What's normal?
My battery is also very empty. Last evening i had 54%. This morning, the phone was off, no power any more.
No, now I will try this tool!
But I think that you also have problem with battery, becase the firsts days that I had my HD, I left my mobile on the whole night with 100% and in the morning I had 100%...I had 99% at lunch time! And a lot of friends that have this mobile have the battery so strong, like me at the beginning...so...I'm getting angry
i have this problem too. had my HD for 2 weeks coming to 3 now and my battery seems to deplect very fast, totally different when i had it. could be becoz of the wallpaper and 3rd party theme i had
For me, it seems it's a software or anything else that needs so much battery power, perhaps the hotfixes or something else.
Sadly, the whole battery monitor progs don't show the needed power per running process, only the current usage. Can anyone with a "good" battery life cann post his current usage? (For expample with SK Tools System Information/battery supply)
Is the backup battery always at 0%?
Battlog
How about this. You can log your activities and see how much battery current (discharge) each application is using by the ma figure. It produces a .log file but if you change it to .txt you can open it up in a text editor.
Hope it helps.
EDIT: Just found out there is better info on it here on XDA Raphael forum. Credits to PalladiumTD for this app.
Today I tried a new battery, and also with a good battery, I have the same problem...so I think that I have to send my mobile to HTC service and ask for a new one, because it can be an internal problem, maybe of motherboard, radio, or I don't know...but it's sure that is hardware problem!
Did you a hard reset and installed nothing else?
Yes, I did...I alredy unpacked it and monday I will send it to HTC service....I hope that they will sed me a new one....a friend said to me that maybe this problem for them is called DOA (dead on arrived) and in this case they have just to change it!I hope so!....but I don't like...!
I know that I can reset it pushing the volume control ecc.....someone knows it exactly?Thank you!

You might want to consider upgrading your Radio ROM version, I flashed from stock Radio ROM to 2.07 (as this was necessary to use the custom ROM I chose to install) and bettery life is really good I find, even better than version 2.08.
If you are willing to do this, please see this link.
Note: you must install HardSPL (once installed successfully, it will show as SPL: 1.42.HSPL instead of 1.42.0000 in Bootloader mode) on your HD2 to unlock it so you can install other Radio versions and custom ROMs.
Start by upgrading to the 1.66 ROM from your provider, then see what you're up to

As above - upgrade your radio and rom.
You wont look back!
i concur... upgrade rom to at least 1.66 and radio to 2.08.50.08_2
i am getting great battery life out of this radio.
with your current rom and radio i guess all you could do now is:
a) install bsb tweaks... it has a power saving option but im unsure as to what registry changes are actually made by it.
b) search these forums for battery tweaks. there are quite a few good reg changes that have been posted.
Wait at least a week as before that, your battery isn't fully conditioned, so you don't get the best out of it.
If you browse internet or have the phone in constant use than it´s normal that the battery is sucked out rapidely - the display and wireless connections consumpt the most energy...
One example: Surfing via Edge/3G demands 300 - 550mA (in peaks)! So it´s no miracle that the battery runs out of juice...
See my log in attachment. This were 19 minutes browsing with 3G (in the middle the phone switched to Edge). I´m currently running EnergyROM 23544 with radio 2.08.50.08_2, browser is Opera Mobile 10 beta. Standby consumption should be around 9 - 18mA (I have 1% loss over night in flight mode)...
Also, bear in mind that the full capacity of the battery won't be reached until several charge/discharge cycles have been done when you flash to a new ROM.

I am wrong in thinking that batteries these days don't really need conditioning, even though I say that so far I am letting my battery totally die before I recharge but its like when I put it in flighmode at night to save battery it still can drop by 10%, is this normal??
thanks for your replies

Ok now that sounds like my cup of tea
I want what you have!!
I have only ever flashed my viewty a ton of times, put themes and such on but as always was case its a brand spanking new phone and I really do not want to mess up, I work in I.T so I have at least 2 braincells haha, but yeah, if i had some instructions to follow I could do it!!
I just want to say a BIG thanks for the replies, so fast and so much help!!
thank you!!!
upgrade your rom to a newer version
It's a huge difference, at least for me between 1.48 rom and 1.66 offical rom. With 1.66 WWE and radio 2.06 my HD2 last for 2 and half days, with HSDPA always on, emails every 1 hour and moderate calls. And no other programs to save power...
Hi!!
So I have got Radio 2.07 and EnergyROM 23544 because the guy said he had only 1% drop in flight mode through the night or would you still say for me to go to 1.66 with Radio 2.07??
thanks for any help!!
I prefer to use shipped ROM's with embeded radio, but is up to you to try.

Problems
Just flashed using HSPL to the energy rom
all went well and my device restarted, nice interface and at the bottom was a please wait bar increasing saying different things and then it said very fast, "restarting device" on the restart my device is stuck on the black screen with the pink circled arrow!
if i take my battery out it first goes to a screen saying energy
then into the user interface and the please wait bar at the bottom again and then it says restarting device when the bar is full and again on restart its the black screen with the circled pink arrow!!
i was meant to flash my Radio to 2.07 after it turned back on back at this stage i am thinking 1, i cant change the Radio to 2.07 and i cant even change firmware because i have to have the device with the user interface to use Active sync
thinking i could well be screwed right about now unless some very kind person tells me otherwise!!
thank you
Hold volume down key, reset phone, hold until you're into the tricolor screen. Then plug your USB cable and flash that radio

Yeah that is what i thought, I am at the red green blue and white screen and at 1st it says serial at the bottom, i plug in my USB and it changes to USB but when i go to Active Sync it states that it can not find my phone!!
really struggling with this but needed to do it since i was getting about 8 or maybe 10hrs out of my battery!!
thanks for the fast reply
Seems i did not actually need active sync to say connected, i just clicked the radio update when at the multi coloured screen so now i am on radio 2.07 and back to my phone restarting, lets hope this time it will restart!!
oj so i waited until my phone restarted before to post!!
it restarted with the radio 2.07 and the EnergyROM 23544 but still the same, when my phone loads into the user interface all looks nice witht he bar please wait at the bottom but when the phone restarts on its own it just gets stuck on the black screen, the red writting at the bottom about the radio version just never shows, then if i take the battery out the same process starts!!
any suggestions please??

Hi,
My battery runs out very fast. I use ROM 1.66.409.1 (76641) NOR
Radio version 2.06.51.07.
I try minimizing the 3g use, wlan is off, BT is off, no programs in the task manager... I have tried it all, but with no luck.
The battery power disappears rapidly.... Any suggestions?

Battery starting to put off my HD2 love :/

Hello..I am an overall very excited HTC HD2 user but i am having huge battery problems which is why i am asking for your insights In general if phone is idle it can go as far as 35 hours straight without any charging. But when i start playing around with it, browse menus , look through settings, launch apps e.t.c the battery drains like mad..sometimes even 3% in 10 minutes..
i do not know what could be the cause of this in particular since listening to mp3, watching movies does not chalk down too much power,i can even say i was slightly happy in that area(consumption and quality wise)..
so far i have done the below..
-hard reseted
-got a brilliant new mmc (transcend 8gb class 6 FTW )
-flight mode only during nights
-bsb tweaks
-some of the tweaks mentioned in the registry tweak for battery thread (not mmc ones, read alot about data corruption risks)
-tested battery (output voltage and mah are fine and it only gets warm after 3 hours of constant ndrive use-which is normal)
-i never installed anywhere else besides phone memory(apps/games)
-virus free
-i have no data plan so 3g/hsdpa access is not a possibility(also deactivated all connections from NoData app)
-disabled all auto update app functions(weather, footprints, my location ,time e.t.c)
the only possible deal i can figure out its to blame is the radio rom..
As i said earlier i am very interested in hearing your thoughts, comments, suggestions on my issue..Thanks for hearing me out

manila : 2.5.19211619

do you use msn live?
i have the SAME EXACT problem, i do NOT have any apps running, i always use cleanram, every apps always get terminated.
as soon as i TOUCH my phone, the battery drains, this battery is rediculous, i have BsB tweaks with powersaving, i dont beleive how you guys get a full day out of this crappy battery when mine doesnt last 10 hours with just texing/and web browsing. im on my third battery replacement, i conditioned my battery three times and STILL the same problem, i feel like braking this phone in half, im using my blackberry bold 9700 now which lasts me 3 days with FULL usage ALL day, my hd2 is about to see the hammer soon
try flashing it to another rom
I stepped from stock rom to artemis and I use my HD2 often but with the stock rom i didn't even came to the middle of the day but with that artemis rom i can get till next day morning without charging plus it's very stable and i almost never do a soft reset and i use this artemis rom about a month now and i didn't even do a hard reset after flashing
sorry for my english hope you understand me
My HD2 will last 2 days constant usage. This includes web surfing and emails being pulled down all day via exchange.
The battery goes down quick to about 30% and will stay around there for ages.

I hear good things about artemis as well but i am afraid i am not up to the flashing challenge..too much of a chicken to play russian rulette worth 680 euros :3 (in case i break something)
just for a test select sign in with a different account so it wipes your details amd reset, use your phone normally and dont use live see how that gets on.
I had my phone running for 2 - 3 days of medium use. as soon as i signed up for live it was lasting less that a day even if i used task manager. I then wiped my details then it was back to normal again.

With Artemis you can hardly go wrong. It does not flash your radio only the OS part, you do not have to use HSPL but SSPL which is far easier to perform. It's all explained on the Artemis thread itself: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612580
regards, Kuzibri
BTW, if anything should go wrong, almost impossible with Artemis ROM's, then you can always flash back one of the original stock ROM.s from HTC itself (1.66 or 1.72)

i'm just waiting for a 1500 capacity battery... which is all i need...
running full power and and heavy use... i manage to make it home to charge... but still... i would much rather have a bigger battery to avoid some worrying...
1500 would be soo perfect.. that accessory alone would add an extra 3-4 hours of life on my phone.. which would be more then enough...

By the way i have 1 weird question about all those ROMs..Are they created from scratch from their makers or are they just modified/edited/tweaked versions of the original OS (ROM) that shipped with the phone?
I ordered a battery bundle with a wall charger, 2X1200mh batteries and a Mirco USB wire for $14 bucks. This is my first full smartphone so its hard for me to get used to the battery life.

yea the hd2's minimal battery life is something that i never had to deal with before also... (i've owned other smartphones but usually could last 2-3 days with moderate to heavy use...) but then again.. i never had a smartphone like the hd2 before
regardless... i'm not sure if i'd be willing to carry 2 batteries around with me... granted i could just leave it in my car until its needed.. but i guess i just consider it a extra thing to remember before i go inside my house/ an extra step to complete before i sleep... would much rather have just one 1500mh
Battery Drain
Do you guys experiencing battery drain have Co0kies Home Tab installed?
There is a known battery drain issue with CHT if .NET version 3.5.9198.0 is not installed. The battery drain will disappear when 3.5.9198.0 replaces .Net 3.5.7xxx.
Don't forget to update the registry to activate the new version and deactivate version 2 or earlier version of 3.5!
Co0kieMonster said:
Some users have had trouble with the battery drain.
I've now added this solution to the first post.
About battery drain:
There is an incompatibility with older versions of the .Net framework that can cause the battery to drain too quickly.
If you have this issue download the latest .Net version from here and install it on your device.
Even if you don't have the issue, it's always good to have the latest .Net version installed.
Big thanks to mike2nl for providing this solution, and to MichelDiamond for tracking the issue while I was away.

Bad battery life is typically not because of the hardware

Hi,
I'm posting this in return for all the information I found about the HD2 and poor battery performance. I read every thread I could find and every single post in them. I learned a lot and that allowed me to solve my problem.
I got no more than about 10 hours of use out of my battery with average use. Initially I thought this was the norm, reading a number of threads on this issue. I could however not believe that the performance was so poor, even taking the large screen into account.
I decided to try and determine exactly what it was that caused the battery to drain to quickly. I loaded BattLog and found it invaluable (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444920).
I immediately noticed that my phone was drawing 85 mA even when it was in standby (or what I thought was standby). Based on what I was reading, the current draw should not be more than 5 mA while the phone is in standby.
I noticed in one of the threads that there were complaints about G-Profile causing battery drain. Since I had it on my phone I thought that might be a logical place to look. I uninstalled it a lo and behold... the current draw fell to below 5 mA when the phone was in standby!
In addition I loaded Bandswitch which switches off my 3G connection after it has not been used for 60 seconds.
Now I have about 48+ hours of battery life. When not using the phone a lot it extends to a lot more than 48 hours.
The long and short of it is that if you get poor battery performance, chances are it is because of some software that is installed on your phone.
Here are a couple of usefull things I have found in helping resolve my battery issues:
1) Use Batlog (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444920) to log the current your phone draws. If it draws more than 5 mA during standby you have a problem, most probably related to a piece of software on your phone
2) Your phone should not be drawing much more than about 150 mA when in 'active' mode with the screen at 40% brightness.
3) If you are running G-Profile, uninstall it and recheck your current draw. Chances are that it is the culprit.
4) Having an active data connection does draw power from the battery. In my case this is about an additional 130 mA. Load something like Bandswitch to disable the data connection when it is not needed.
I hope this information helps somebody. I realise that the situation is different for everybody out there because of all the variants such as age of the battery, sofware loaded and use. However, the reality is that the battery issues are most probably not because of a bad battery or the hardware but rather because of software on the phone.
BTW I am running:
OS Version: 5.2.21869
Manilla version: 2.5.19211619.0
ROM version: 1.48.421.2 (71294) WWE
Radio version: 2.05.51.05_2

When I ran the Test, it said that I was using up 242mA in standby! I dont believe I have G-Profile installed, unless it was pre installed on the device. I have the latest versions of the ROM, Radio, Manila, and OS version, so I know the culprit cant be the ROM version... Any ideas? I bought this phone from T-Mobile US.... Sooo yeah
Folks, I've been trying to get to the bottom of this as well. I have a number of cab files which do seem to help a little. One of the bigest culprits I've found is the screen lockers. Disable them and see how you fair!

Soopahsteve,
I suggest you use Battlog to log to file. This is very useful as it will log the time stamp, the current temp of the battery and the current draw at the point in time. In addition it logs arious events on the phone, in particular the startup and shut down of applications, data connectivity, when you make or receive a call, whether you are talking or receiving on the call, etc. This can be opened in Excel and then analysed and if you are very lucky, you will pick up some patterns allowing you to link some programs to the battery drain.
However, the situation is typically slightly more complex to resolve since the culprit software are usually software that is loaded as TSR application at reboot. The result of this is that Battlog will not show the startup of these applications in the log file since they are already running at the time you are starting Battlog.
You should look at programs that manage phone profiles, screen lockers, screen calls or SMS messages, etc. In other words, any program that does work behind the scenes.
The reason you are seeing 242 mA in "standby" is because your phone is not really in standby. Although the screen is blank, something is preventing your phone from going into true standby, the processor is still active. The trick is to find what this is.
Sometimes the only approach is to uninstall the applications you suspect one by one and see if it makes a difference until you either find the culprit or can prove that none of the them are an issue. Then reinstall the ones you think are "safe" one by one and check whether the probelm pops up again. unfortunately you have to do the double sided approach because there could be more than one application that cuases your issue.
Painful I know but worh it when you have two days worth of battery time with some to spare.

You know it. In reality I would love to upgrade to the latest and greatest but I've customised my phone to the Nth degree (did obviously not upgrade the ROM) by installing all the little apps I find useful, Cookies Home tab (best thing since sliced bread), etc. My phone is now just the way I like it.
It would take me quite some time to upgrade the ROM and to customise it again from scratch and I really don't see the benefit. I might be force to do it when I get to a stage where there are software that I would like to load that only works on the later ROMs but until such time I'm not gonna try to fix that that ain't broke.

I just upgraded my ROM and did a Level 1 restore with Sprite Backup ... everything comes back except (I think) for wifi passwords.
i am drawing 180mA on standby..
im using custom rom, energy rom so thats very strange, but i have to agree that my battery life is terrible.. so i got to find a way to cut down on the 180mA drain..
I've always had good battery life on stock 1.66 rom losing 3% overnight with wifi and bluetooth turned off. Had to do a hard reset and started losing 15% overnight with the same everything. Did further resets and got nowhere. Ended up giving up on 1.66 although it had been fine previously after numerous hard resets - makes no sense but this is what happened. Just flashed to 1.72 and back to losing 3% overnight what it should be. And that is out of the box, to be honest all the battery saving registry tweaks are not worth the time installing and I leave 3G on all the time with updates coming through.
So it's all a bit random and shame on HTC for not sorting it out. My advice is do a hard reset, switch the wifi and bluetooth off and see in the morning if you have a reasonable battery life (or use the batt consumption program to verify standby consumption is sensible). Do this first before installing everything, getting frustrated and starting over again like I did when you discover that you're still experiencing high battery drain. This ensures that your starting point is a good flash and the phone is getting good life before adding any apps that could be causing a problem.
i have found my hd2 really does not like being in a poor or no coverage area. other phones i've owned have normally coped pretty well with no or very little signal. but not the hd2.
also noticed more drain in areas where there is only poor 3g coverage and its switching between 'g' and 'h' coverage.

Energy ROMs, just like the name goes, use a lot of Energy
They are baked in with a lot of performance tweaks so it's not unusual to get lower battery life per charge compared to other more down to earth vanilla ROMs.
Thanks for this thread, a lot of interesting information about the battery life of my HD2.
Just to mention: battconfig shows the power consumption directly in the task bar, a good way to find power guzzlers while they are active.
It's a pity we have no central place in this forum with a list of background applications that are known to drain the battery faster.
Or, also a needed information, a list of applications that are known not to do this (like PhoneAlarm, PocketShield).
I'm using the official rom only and have non fancy apps running or installed while I'm using the test bat program. As I speak the SD card is removed and celular radio is turned off.
Acording to program there is an indicator which is switching from -229ma to +78ma is that what its drawing of power?

+78ma??? That must mean you are charging the battery. The best way to test current draw is when it is only on the battery.
I get about -5ma draw on standby and it tops out at around 180ma when I have the screen on, but usually hovers around 130 - 150ma. I have my screen brightness at the lowest setting possible.
@OP, I wanted to say this earlier... great topic, very insightful.
I have a few suggestions for everyone posting in this thread. Let's try and get some common data together that is more tangible in order to give us a more similar & common perspective for these discussions.
I suggest the following
1) Soft Reset. Once the device is on, do not run ANY applications. In fact don't do anything except for following the below instructions.
2) Turn your screen brightness all the way DOWN! (Turn off Auto Backlight and manually set it to the lowest setting)
3) Check your power settings and make sure that while your phone is on battery, that it is set to dim the backlight after 30 seconds and turn off after 1 minute
*** I have attached 2 REG files below for both Backlight and Power. Please use them instad of doing it manually.***
4) Turn off all the radios (Phone, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth). Let's make our first round of tests with the Radio's off. Radio ON complicates things a bit as there are several applications to keep track of that use the Data Connection. I'll come up with a more comphrehensive list later so we can do the Radio ON tests.

1) Use any Task manager and get a screenshot of all the processes running. Sometimes the number of processes displayed is longer than the screen size can accomodate. Take 2 screenshots in this case making sure that you capture all processes. Edit the image with MS Paint or some other Image Program and attach it here as one image. See the example in the post below this one.
2) Goto \Windows\Startup and get a screenshot of the folder contents
3) If you are using Sense, drag the slider all the way to the end (settings) and goto About Phone. Goto Software Information and get a screenshot of that.
Monitoring the Battery
1) Make sure your phone is not connected to the charger or to the computer.
2) Open BattLog (can be found here), set the refresh rate to 1 second and Start Logging.
3) After you start the logging process do not touch the screen / the phone again for exactly 2 minutes.
TIME THIS with a stop watch. As soon as the 2 minutes it complete, turn the phone back on and stop the logging.
Information to post here
1) All the screenshots from above.
2) The current draw (both on standby and while active). Also, please attach the file that logged all the information in this format: Forum ID - BattLog - dd-mmm-yy.txt
3) ROM - Whose ROM? Release Date? Does it have Cookie's Home Tab Installed or any other MAJOR Sense Modifications.

RADIO: 2.07.50.27_2

Those figures look normal to me. You should be getting about as good a battery life as a device like this can achieve.
