Minor scratches on keyboard - eXpo GW820, GW825 IQ General

My eXpo is started show show minor scratches on the keyboard. Luckily right now you can only see them from a certain angle. Im guessing its from closing the phone at a bad angle. A littles dissapionted because the phone is only 2 months old. So remember guys, close your phones straight so you keyboards dont get scratched!

Good tip! Are there some screws or rails we can't see with the phone open, perhaps? I feel your pain, though... I scratched my screen pretty good on day 1. Some debris on my stylus; thought the stylus felt a bit weird, then saw the damage in the light. Doh!

Scratches on metal part of screen near VueFlow button

Spotted someone asking asking about this on another thread and noticed I have the same problem.
http://amd.co.at/anti/pocket/pics/Ameo/AMEO_VGA/PICT1860.JPG
(antivirus - borrowed your picture, let me know if you object and I'll remove it)
So who else has the same problem, what's causing it and what can we do to stop it?
I noticed i get that to. the only way i have found to stop it happening is to magnetise my keyboard on the outside of the case. I think its caused by the connectors for the keyboard, there are 2 little black risen points that stick out and 1 of them makes those marks. (thats what i think - anyone else know any different?)
I was cheesed off by this as having paid out for the phone and for this to happen within a week i wasnt happy. Great phone tho! So all is kinda forgiven!
We need more protective cases out there! Only 2 types i can find so far.
yeh youre right. not only does the black plastic thing line up with scratches, but i noticed some of the scratched silver metal on the black plastic thing.
Yes, looks like that's it.
Now to find an acceptable solution. I'm more than a little pissed off to be honest at such a simple design flaw.
I'm currently misaligning the keyboard with the Ameo by a few mm so that the right hand connector is off the screen and nearer the VueFlow button but this is not an acceptable solution really
could try filing the RHS black thing down/off. the magnets seem to do a good job of ensuring the ameo only connects to keyboard when properly aligned (left to right) anyway.
the countour on keyboard also ensures ameo is straight relative to the keyboard.
The black points seem to keep the ameo upright when using the keyboard, im probably wrong tho.
Try turning the keyboard around in the case, i know its a pain when you want to use the keyboard and have to turn it around to use it, but i find that it works.
Eg have the buttons facing the bottom of the case so the smooth surface is facing the screen. Thats the only other way round it i can see. Im just keeping my eye out for a skin, as ive asked about in another post.
If other people out there are trying to work around it spending money on a different case may be the only way, but your right, big design floor. I noticed it, the same evening i purchased it and managed to flip my keyboard over or put it on the outside of the case. Adds to the bulk tho putting it on the outside, but to me, its the safest option.
I took the Dremmel to that horrid little black plastic lump.
I took it down about 60%, there is still an alignment piece there, but much lower.
I can report that there was no difference in using the keyboard, with or without the leather case. It clips into place just the same as before, and stands up fine as before.
I dont think there is now any danger of more damage from it on my device.
Of course, if you take a Dremmel to YOUR kb, its not my fault what the result is!

Who has a squeaky screen?

I'm going to call up T-Mobile today and ask for a new G1.
The lower right corner of the screen is VERY squeaky. It's really loud, and you can feel it squeak when you press around the bottom right 30% of the screen.
The problem is the bottom right corner is being sucked up against the "chin" of the phone. Pulling it away just a milimeter gets rid of the squeak. There is, however, no easy fix unless I want to take sandpaper and start sanding away around the joints.
I'm currious how many other people are having this problem. I've read of a couple of people having it, but I thought I poll would be a decent way to see if it's wide-spread or just a select few devices.

I returned my first one with no problems at all. but if you can't theres a fix here

I got my g1 yesterday... I f'n love it! But the screen does squeak a lil when pressed on and also my screen is not really aligned right when I open the phone to use the keyboard but its really not that noticeable...
Forgive me for being skeptical, but I wonder if you guys are pressing too hard on your screen? Mine only squeaks if I really push on it.
I've found I barely need to touch the screen to get it to respond. If you had the Wing or other WinMo phone, you're probably used to pressing much harder. You shouldn't have to with this phone, it's built to respond to the slightest touch.
Or at least that's my experience. If it's bothering you, by all means get a new phone. Perhaps it's a dual problem, perhaps the screen isn't as responsive, and thus you're forced to press harder and that makes it squeak. Best of luck, guys.
The creaking problem appears to be isolated to the black g1s due to a small plastic lip on the chin where the screen meets the chin. I haven't seen the black in person but pictures show that it is more of a matte finish as opposed to a glossy finish for the bronze. I have the bronze g1 and the chin has this extra piece of plastic but due to it having a glossy finish, it doesn't creak..it slides smootly when pressing the screen corner.
The fix above works!
I was sceptical, but I took an exacto and shave just a little off. I thought it wouldn't hurt. Well it worked perfect and not a squeek to be found even when pressing or sliding. Can't beleive that little flash of modeling makes so much noise. Thanks for the fix.
By the way I had a black G1
Jcostanza4
No, and I'm rockin the bronze; but on an unrelated/semirelated note
The plastic on this screen is like a magnet for finger juices.
Not slick like glass, it has a plasticy feel that makes me miss the original screenplastic that covered it.
and if you have the ToddlerLock and hand it to a kid - what the eff - Grease City, USA.
I have to clean this more often than on my wing, and it's not the simple huhhhuhh/wipe - it's a cloth or shirt with windex or spit.
(yeah I lick my screen and wipe with tshirt to clean it. Hope it doesn't void the warranty)

This was an ingenious fix! Worked for me! The screen still moves but no sqeaks!!
I've heard reports of this but mine is dead silent when I push on it. In fact it doesn't even have any give, it's just solid against the phone. I must have just gotten lucky. Mine's black by the way.
Sometimes I hear it, sometimes I don't. Unlike everyone else, I don't see this as a big deal.
if you dont consider it a big deal, then you havent heard one really squeak yet. I have had people ask me what that f-ing noise is when I am talking on the phone. Just rubbing against my face it squeaks...LOUD. My friends black makes no noise, mine is a nightmare
squeeky here
I have had 2 g1 phones, both squeeked
I tried the razor blade trick and it seemed to help a little.
Two G1s and put a file to it - and no more squeek. Finally lol. That was annoying. And the girlfriend has a white one - no squeek. That part isnt there.

i used an little blade to shave it right off
worked perfectly
i had called tmobile to ask them to replace it but they said they cant do anything about it
so i took matters into my own hands
did it in less than 30 seconds and pressed as hard as i could and didnt heard a squeek at all
I have a white g1 and the creaking sounds are pushing me that much i feel like selling up th problem is i got my phone new from ebay so i dont think i can send it back also when the phone is open the screen is not alingend this is horrible and i cant help but notice it is there any fix for that problem?
no squeaky for me!
White G1 here.
My G1 is super sqeeky. I have had it replaced 3 times for various screen problems.... every one I have had seems to squeek. Just tried the razor trick... Didn't seem to help. Oh well.... doesn't bother me That much. Embrace your sqeeks.
Man... the squeek didn't even bother me till I actually read this thread and paid attention to it
yes same here!
probably it is a HTC production problem

Dust under the screen

Hello all,
I've got a week old Desire Z and the only thing thats bothering me is a few bits of dust in various corners of the screen, tiny bits not too large, other than this the phones perfect. I'm contemplating returning the device, however I'm worried the next one maybe worse off, and eventually dust is going to get under the screen it being a HTC, my previous Nexus One had the problem so did 3 other friends and a Desire, all which use similar sealing mechanisms.
Do any of you chaps suffer from the same problem?
Regards,
Akshay
I haven't noticed any dust in mine -- but I did in one of my previous phones.
As long as its not a big flake of dust right in the middle, I wouldn't sweat it. Like you said, the next one could be worse (unless you can go into a store and they'll let you open boxes and look)
Mine came with what appears to be a very slight scratch bottom right, but when the phone's on you cant see it at all
I have one on my screen too. It's not small, it's on the edge of the screen, right on top, below the HTC logo. When I pick up the phone, it's not visible much, but when you look at the phone lying on your desk then I see it and it bugs me.
I was hoping there is a way to get rid of it. Like turn the phone upside down and switch on vibration, or shake the phone. Any ideas?

Anything in there is probably sandwiched in pretty good. Some things to consider trying are giving the phone some hard taps on the edge, to try to dislodge the dust and move it to a non-visible area (this could also shatter your screen or dislodge some important component) or maybe try dissembling the phone till you can get to the edge of the screen and try some high-pressure air...

I got dust in the bottom left hand corner of my screen. I went to sleep with a clear screen and woke up with a good portion of the corner pretty well dusted, about the diameter of a dime.
I sent it in for a warranty replacement, and it hasn't happened again with the new one in 5 months.
I'm done with HTC phones for now. Two of my last high end HTC phones had either dust or stuck/bad pixels and while materials seemed high quality, build quality was really poor. That dust was not there when I bought it, it must have made it in there, this should never be allowed to happen.

People without screen protector

Hey was wondering how is the screen holding up. Do you guys having any scratches on them or anything? I'm debating on whether to take mine off
It's a very tough screen, mine is still in mint condition w/o a screen protector, but I never leave any sharp objects such as keys in the same pocket as my phone either.
No scratch at all, looks like new... (other than the rest of the device).
And I never used any "protective" thingies.

I've had my HD2 for 14 months and there are no scratches on it at all. When I first got it I saw the well known youtube vid of a guy trying to scratch his HD2 screen and failing. One night I was drunk and decided to show this to a mate, so I took a bottle cap and went to work with my screen, as hard as I could! We were both very impressed at the results (or lack of), but I noticed not long after that you could see where I had scratched it when I'd run my finger over it. If I wiped it clean then you couldn't see it at all. It was VERY feint, but it was there when smudged.
However, it's now 100% disappeared, even after major use.
I used to have a screen protector, but no longer bother. It's obviously always recommended not to put your phone in your pocket with keys & loose change etc., but this screen is THE BEST screen I've ever had on a phone.
I think it only needs a minimum of common sense and it will live for a looooooooooooong time!
Took mine off month ago, and very happy I did. It did nothing but lessen screen sensitivity and slightly dull viewing.
The glass on the screen can't withstand every stracth known to man, but it's pretty tough. Usually, the people with really messed up glass dropped theirs and the glass BROKE.
Here's the scratch test video and here's another thread about this where others share their thoughts and experiences.
I have just avoided putting in the same pocket as my keys, so far so good.
Wow that's pretty cool. I think I'm still going to keep one on though. To me its sort of like insurance. I may not need it often, but when I do, I sure will be glad I have it!

AHHH!!! They really need to move that damn thanks button, but thanks for that
To be honest, if it gives you peace of mind and doesn't have an adverse effect (sensitivity & brightness mainly) then yeah, keep it on.
I have my HD2 about 1,5 years now, and the screen didn't have a scratch at all. Unfortunately the back plate loses it clear finish, but that's acceptable.
Almost a year and no scratches whatsoever. I do keep it in a case whenever I am carrying it around, though. The only wear I can see at all are some indentations in the material on the top right corner of the handset.
Hi,
Got a cover, no scratch at all, like many people, i don't mix keys/smartphone screen, the best way to damage it !
almost a year and no scratch at all. I must say I guard it with my life.
it never leaves my sight and is always in it's original leather pocket.
I had a HTC Touch Cruise before and it was a plastic restitve touchscreen.
Even that thing was okay and usable after 3 years... It had many deep scratches but with backlight on you only saw them a bit and it wasnt a problem for the usability
The screen of the hd2 really needs some effort to get scratched. In my opinion a screen protector is useless, because the power that is needet to scratch this screen would easily cut the protector
But i also use the barely there case, to avoid scratches on the housing (put some tape on the corners to avoid damage from case on/off). The screen protector that was with this case gives me a better feeling on the touchscreen, its easier to glide ^^ and i dont have so many fingerprints
^^^
Fingerprints can be easily removed, you know
Mine is over 9 months old, still as good as new .
My secret is "The Magical Original Leather Pouch"
It never gets out of it, unless I want to use it
Is the camera lens cover made from the same material? Does it resist scratches as well as the screen?
I also don't use a screen protector. My phone is kept in a leather belt pouch, but is handled delicately (partially because it is expensive and partially because it is such a beautiful phone).
Got my TMOUS HD2 when they first came out, and screen is still perfect. I do keep it in a pocket by itself though, so no contact with keys or change.
Ive had mine around 14 months now, never used a protector and there's no problems at all with my screen. This is even after I stopped using the leather pouch a few months ago after getting an extended battery and even after dropping the phone a few times!
Almost one year without screen-protector and without case.
Not only one scratch on the screen.
I have two scratches on the screen, but you have to make effort to see them.
I took it to a sandy beach to read books every day all summer long, no protection whatsoever.
It's a great phone.

loose bezel

Ive had my nexus s since launch an ive noticed that the bezel around my screen is loose. When i apply pressure on the sides of my phone like squeezin it alittle it creaks an moves some. I first thought it was the battery cover but when i remove it i can see the bezel moving. Anyone else notice this on theres?
I returned a couple different NS for various reason and some had a squeaky bezel and some didn't. None of them were loose enough where there was any significant movement. Sorry to say but it sounds like you have a defect. Call Samsung, I'm sure you're still under warranty. It takes a couple weeks between sending it out and getting it back but at least it will be fixed and hopefully working properly. Good luck.
i can't say it's normal, but i guess it's pretty commom, mine is like yours and other two pieces i have tested are a little more or less equal... the weird thing is some users notice and some don't. my friend's nexus is just like mine and he never noticed until i told him!
I've noticed that the plastic piece at the bottom of the phone (where the USB port and hole for the mic are) creaks a little when I push on it. Nothing I'm fretting over but enough to be noticeable.
I just looked at my friends an his is really bad on the sides. He thinks it might be from taking the battery cover off an on alot. I wish there was some way to tighten it cause its now starting to bug me but not enough to send to samsung. I cant go without a phone for a few weeks
just like i said! =o)... and no way i will send it to samsung!
i guess i will wait whole piece comes out so i'll fix it with superglue! =o)
