HTC Supersonic Video - Hero CDMA General

What do you guys think is this the Supersonic or the Incredible I think it's the Supersonic because of the screen size and the red speaker grille Engadget posted this not too long ago
Supersonic?

im glad im a premier customer. Im saving my upgrade for that phone!

the sooner it comes out the better. I want to get my GF an android phone that trumps the iPhone, and I happen to live in KC (can't wait for that Wi-Max rollout).
I'll get one too if it's everything they say it is. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

think they have knocked out the idea of it being the supersonic now... depressing but if supersonic comes out anytime soon ill definitely grab me one

If that's the Incredible, the Supersonic must be huge.

I don't think it's the Supersonic because you can see it has an optical trackpad on the bottom in the center. The supersonic doesn't have an optical trackpad or a track ball (I wish it did though). My guess is it's the Incredible. I'm waiting for the Supersonic. We'll probably hear more about it from that big event coming up March 24th-26th.

I think it's the Supersonic just because the renders don't have the optical pad doesn't mean much and what Android phone doesn't have some way to click on small stuff in web pages etc. trackball, D-pad, optical pad I think that the leaked shots from earlier in the year just didn't show it they were pretty blurry cam

My wife took my upgrade to get her Hero
I was saving for the Supersonic too, but ya can't be stingy with the misses, you know? I suppose I'll be buying it at full price, ha.

I hope you're right, because I was really bummed that the supersonic didn't have an optical pad. Here's to waiting!

Woohoo! I'm moving out to Las Vegas in a few months. I plan on buying a 4g phone despite having to pay full price.
4g tethering would be spectacular, and Sprint has true unlimited (uncapped) data with 4g (to date).

Kiosk in mall devoted to Evo??????

Sorry if this is old news, but I was in 2 malls this week doing some christmas shopping, and saw kiosks devoted ONLY to the Evo. There were about 6 Evos on display and 2 big evos like the iphones in the apple store. Funny thing was, one of them was setup right in-front of the apple store. Im sure that wasnt on accident! Go sprint!
PS, this was in Los Angeles Anyone else see these?
Is that the new EVO 4G Tablet on the side of the kiosk?

Saw these a couple months ago at Topanga Mall and Northridge Mall. It's one reason why I don't understand why the 42-inch nexus s is news worthy.

...because it just came out and is the headlining Android phone? Which brings me to my main point, does anyone think it's sad that the EVO is still Sprint's flagship phone? During the same time period:
a. Verizon had the Incredible, then the Droid X, Fascinate, Droid 2, and now the Droid Pro.
b. AT&T had the iPhone 4, Captivate, BB Torch, and now a slew of WP7 phones.
c. T-Mo had the MyTouch 3G slide, Vibrant, G2, MyTouch 4G, and now the Nexus S.
..and Sprint? The EVO and Epic. What's up with that? This isn't a which phone is better thing, just pointing out how much Sprint is lacking on the high end phone selection.
Since as a Premier member I can only upgrade every 12 monts, I'm cool with it.

Sprint's NEVER had the biggest phone selection. They offer a few fantastic phones and dirt cheap plans. Honestly though, I'd pick the Evo and the Epic over any Android phone out there right now though haha. The Nexus S would be the only one I'd consider, but not anywhere near enough to leave spring haha

T-Mo is arguably as cheap plus it's HSPA+ is free. With them you got the options of: the Vibrant (it's SGS variant but is "meh"), G2 (Powerful and slick slider with Vanilla Android), MyTouch 4G (which is just about the/one of the best spec'd phones out), or the Nexus S (arguably the best phone out right now).
You could argue that you'll just upgrade every year in June but how is that a good thing? I mean, look at that Shift 4G thread where people are arguing on whether the EVO is still worth getting? It's 6 months old, I would feel extremely limited and not to mention shafted if I needed to get a high end Sprint phone right now.
I just think that Sprint has to step up with some more phones.

Yeah, but the EVO is still a stronger performing phone than most of the phones you listed there. Aside from the Droid Pro and Nexus S there isn't one phone there that would replace my EVO. Those WP7 phones aren't even a consideration imo....

The Droid Pro is trash IMO. I'd consider the Nexus S, iPhone 4, G2, and maybe (but probably not) a WP7 phone. It's all matter of preference but the fact is that you got more worthwhile phones to judge and I wish that was the case with Sprint.
And what does all this crap have to do with the original question about the kiosk?
Agreed! I sell phones and I am yet to come by an android phone as reliable, fast, and attractive as the Evo. Sprint's got a lock on phone quality. All the other android phones you mentioned dont measure up...except the Nexus S.

I sell more evos than any other phone, half the phones i sell are evos, the phone's over 6 months old, still crazy popular, and has hardware specs that other phones are just now finally beating. HTC did an awesome job with it, can't wait to see their next phone after the shift.

All carriers will help you with the cost of your ETF. Call and ask, it's Christmas season.
I rather walk in the sprint store and see a few great phones that will fit my needs... maybe like a front facing camera? Or a 4.3 inch screen? HDMI out? 10+mbps of data speed? A kick stand to kick back in the office and watch Hulu at full speed? Or play Need for Speed Shift while waiting for my girl? Maybe use Fring to video chat with her since she also has a front facing camera? Or how about getting on the XDA app and laugh at stupid posts people make regarding sprint and phones and trophys about tours..
Oh crap.. i just dropped my keys.. let me use my twin-led flashlight to find them...
I found them!!
Where was i?
I was jamming out... downloading music with Gtunes.. i can also use windows explorer/music/copy all... dragging and dropping the music files i need without connecting to itunes and syncing...
I just got a notification on my Sony Ericsson Live View... i can see my twitter replys without taking my evo out of my pocket...
Aww crap... i lost wifi signal at work, so did my co-workers... ill just turn on my Hotspot.. there.. me and my friends have full speed 4G signal on thier pcs via my internal router on my Evo...
Im gonna watch youtube... let me connect my HDMI enabled phone on my 42 inch tv...
Ahh... i love my phone..

Played with a G2 this weekend [review]

gotta say.. its nice..
My buddy FINALLY got an Android phone. The G2. He decided on that over the Sprint Evo Shift 4g.
The phone is built quality. I like the way '4g' utilizes the 3g radio, and not a separate radio to toggle. Automatically switches to the faster network.
4g tests, both had full bars. The Sprint 4g was consistently faster by alot, 6.5mps vs 2.5mps although on 2 occasions the Tmo 4g reached 6.5mps as well. Latency was consistently much lower on Tmo.
The keyboard, it took the epic for me to take interest in keyboards again (after horror of PPC6700/PPC6800-mogul) Quite a different feel in the buttons. They are big, although the overall footprint is smaller than the Epic's. And they are mushy feeling. I feel a harder button reacts faster for quick button mashing style texting.
At least for me. But is something I could get used to. The hinge I do no see to be a problem at all either.
The phone itself is a little weighty. But that goes hand in hand with the strong industrial feel. The use of metal vs plastic feels of quality build. Makes you feel like it will break you, before you break it.
Screen size 3.7in Super-TFT, as coming from the mammoth Evo's 4.3in screen foundation, down to the pretty 4.0in found in the Epic; I didn't miss it. Those of you spoiled by the Samoled, one thing you wouldn't get over are the black levels. Not nearly as breathtaking..
800Mhz was pretty quick in stock form. Didnt notice a difference between the Evo or Epic's powerplant while stabbing at the screen and instantly having a reaction.
Charging time. Typical HTC, utilizing fast charge system. Noticeable much faster charging system than what is implemented in the Samsung Epic. Placement of the charging port is a bit cumbersome for one-handed use, [protrudes from left of device] as one may find it difficult to manage in the left hand. But when using the slider, the port is located at the bottom now and is free from obstructing your commands.
Compass, sensors, GPS, and magnetic shielding. As expected, the HTC had no problems locking on being inside the home. I have to make mention that the Samsung also had no problem locking on under the same conditions.
The compass in both were accurate, [using the Compass app free in market] but the compass was much more reactive to every movement. Though I suspect the 6 axis accelerometer in the Epic to be reason.
While still using compass, holding the phones side by side resulted in the Epic's compass to completely change course. The Epic is terribly vulnerable to interference, as the G2's compass stayed rock solid. I am willing to bet that this is the result of lack of magnetic shielding.
So there you have it, my impressions of the G2. I find it hard to believe that I will purchase a Samsung mobile device anytime soon. As to me, HTC is still the best manufacture currently of phones out today. Not talking about whats on paper, but under real world use.

Thank you for that, just wanted to express my experience with the device. But it turned into a review the more I went on lol.
Yes I know its hard to wing off the Iphone users lol.
I admit I am anti-Iphone but its because of facts and opinion, not fanboyisms.
But my bud always had the candy bar phones from cricket, sprint, tmo, and he always could not understand why I am on my phone so much. This was even back when I had the mogul, diamond, hero etc.
its been growing on him after I have shown him things on the Evo and Epic. He admitted its cool, but he would never use all that. He just needs a phone to make calls and text he stated. The Epic really did a number on him because he know how I wireless tether, how pretty the screen is etc and wanted a phone to do all that now lol.
He first decided to get the android device from Cricket, the Ascend, and was curious if it could do at least half of what mine did. Well the very spotty coverage shot that out lol. The reason he is not on Sprint with the Shift, is because he didnt wanna spend the extra money of of pocket (rebate)
But even at that, he is paying off the phone monthy like 20$ <- you can beat Tmo with payment plans for phones. Wished Sprint did this.
My bud is super happy, never puts the phone down lol. I am glad to be such an influence.
Nice review man... I like to see our phones compared with others even though it seems to loose this one with the build quality and such... good job.

Maybe you should review the phone again and post it on youtube. My brother also has a ifail damn I mean iphone 3something. He can't stand the fact that android beats its in every way. Between the evo and epic kinda hard to say which phone truly owns the iphone

definetly the epic apple sucks... and im not a fanboy I've had 3 ipod touches and in order to stand them I have to jailbreak with android you can do a lot more without rooting.

I'd honestly say that the Epic owns pretty much every other phone...
... except for the build quality, support, and just the manufacturer in general. I must say that I love my phone. But, the GPS not working, the keyboard missing keys, and the crappy support just KILLS it.
I owned Htc MTS3gs and 2 samsumgs(Epic and Behold 2),i gotta say that from that expirience Samsung has better hardware and phones feel more solid, but MTS3Gs was so snappy and lag free for a 600mhz phone it was amazing even with Sense.
2G is only 3.7 screen and no Amoled so its no go for me.Until htc starts making Amoled screens im not fckin with them-i refuse to use regular lcd phone even if it has dual cpu and nvidia.
I got tired of my Epic missing keystrokes and Sprint's flaky 4G service so I switched to the G2.. Much happier. Here in Atlanta, HSPA+ is a steady 6mbps indoors and out, and like you said the latency is much lower.
If you want to jump ship to TMobile, this phone is being offered free with contract (I think) so it's definitely a good deal.
After dealing with the Moment and then the Epic's problems, I've gotta say that HTC is simply the better choice.
Thanks for that. I posted this morning, on my FB this: Debating ending my 8yr relationship with Sprint, and starting up TMO? I ended up with 58 replies in that thread. Yes I know I will miss the pretty screen, the hummingbird etc. but the G2 felt fast too. plus it can be OC beyond hell, takes advantage of JIT, Dev support etc.. its looking mighty fine lol
I gotta friend thats gonna hook me up with a good deal when i switch. gonna pickup the mytouch 4g for the baby mamma, and g2 for myself. BUT I will be back on the Sammy Vibrant 4G when that releases as it will utilized the UPGRADED HSPA+ 21mbps (and later on 41mbps)

Nice review, it is a nice phone. Just some input from a former Nexus One T-Mobile user. I absolutely loved my Nexus One but just could not put up with T mobiles spotty coverage hear in South Florida. It was almost unbearable. I truly believe carrier coverages vary from region to region but here in South Florida T Mobiles coverage was super spotty. Sprint coverage down here is definitely much better but I would love to see how the new T Mobile 4g coverage performs because Sprints 4g coverage is horrible! My phone is constantly going from 3g to 4g down here. Very annoying!

Nice review.
I actually bought the G2 the day it released(it's early release) and I loved it...Honestly the only unappealing thing I can think of is the screen quality compared to the Epic. Nothing beats the epics screen. But the G2 Blows the EVO away IMHO.
Unfortunately I seem to live in a t-mobile black hole and couldn't stand not being able to use the phone at home so I turned it in and got the Epic.
I do miss that phone...
thanks for the input! where I live at home I get badass coverage for 4g with Sprint.
now very true, the coverage is verrrrry spotty.. it works here and there in a 0.2 mile difference in distance.. even look up the coverage map and that even shows it.. I will have 14 days to decide TMO works for my needs, where I live and around. (also hate that 4g drops on the epic under load)

Wow this forum has really quieted down.. unfortunately my cash situation doesn't allow me the funds for my 3vo yet but it will be in my hands as soon as i can but has everyone jumped ship or is in my kind of situation and have to wait it out a bit?

im not going anywere, anytime soon i cant upgrade till later next year, but im grandfathered into one of the best contracts in cell phone history and if i early upgrade ill have to get a new one.
129$ a month for umlimted everything on 2lines you cant beet that.
so im more than happy with my hero as long as i have that lol.

Come on! This phone is super fast.
My Hero is now lifeless! Poor thing.
Surprisingly, I didn't have many complaints with my Hero. But I do think a lot of people will end up moving to the Evo 4G that can't get the 3D, just because it is cheaper now. Just like when the price of the Hero went down, we got an influx of people in this forum.

Some random thoughts:
1) What's up with all these people who get the latest phone on launch day. I got my hero when it came out in fall of '09, so I'm not due for an upgrade, Much less an early upgrade, till September or so.
2) I thought I'd pick up a cheap used evo 4g for a while to tide me over till the next gen of dual cores in late fall but they're still expensive on Craigslist. Anybody want $100 cash for their evo ;-)
3) If I did get an evo, I'd have to pay the $10/mo 4g tax when we don't even have 4g in Milwaukee. That's like flushing $120 down the toilet.
So no, I'm not going anywhere. Frankly, I'm happy with my heroc running cm7.
I'm still here until October (maybe) but I'm sort of glad it's quieted down, I need to spend less time tinkering with my phone anyway.
I'm waiting for the next dual core after the 3vo or if rumors are true maybe an iPhone although I'm fully integrated with Google, I'm still a Mac user.
Plus I got hit by a truck so I'm not participating much anyway.
i only use cyanogen and mess around with random prls thats about as much tinkering i do lol.
serously cyanogen is all i need in a phone everything works and its up to date with software the only thing i ever use my phone for now a days since i got my laptop is tethering phone calls and texts lol.

Hardly a 4G tax anymore as they apply it to all new activations. It's a rate hike, but you'll be hard pressed to find better rates on a major carrier.

I was about to work my way into a Nexus S 4G. Looks like I'll have to wait.
F*ck YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder if it will be LTE ready? And when?
now if only they'd make me happy and announce a slider keyboard version of the Nexus... But this is still good news..
I had almost given up hope sprint would get this phone, I guess i get to wait on buying the sgs2 a little longer.

That would completely run the phone lol. Let's take a sleek, thin CURVED phone and add another 1/4 inch to the thickness and add more weight to it for a keyboard. None the less its a huge huge screen. Plenty room for anyone to work the on screen keyboard just fine

Forget the thickness, if it had a keyboard I would pay contract-free prices for it. Drool. Still, if this is legit... I know what I'm getting! (It better have WiMax...)

Honestly i hope it has LTE even if i dont have it cause if I'm signing a 2 year contract after a year I'm sure ill want lte.
But if not then i guess Wimax would be ok.....
I would probably only use 3g anyway as i very limited 4g here and never in the areas here where it is at.

Unless you're in a major city, by the time the contract expires you probably won't have LTE available. I, however, already have decent WiMax coverage... and want to keep using it.
.... FFFFUUU
I told myself I'd stick with this Nexus S for at least a year when I bought it at full price in May after ditching my Epic..... I really really really want that Prime!

one of my buddies was super pissed when the nexus S was a sprint only device (he's on VZW) and now he's super excited that the Prime will be on VZW and was tryin to rub it in that Sprint wasn't getting it.. well, guess i get to throw that back in his face now.. lol

Ya thats true i guess, you never know tho cause verizon has LTE here
Or maybe that was phoenix?
That's great that it is coming to Sprint... may decide to stay after all.
I doubt it will be, but if the Sprint version was a slider I would definitely get it. Swype, apple KB, GB kb - can't get used to any of them, gimme a good hardware KB anytime of the day over any of them.
I got my nexus s 4g a month ago but I want this phone I'm going to start saving $$ now so in a couple months I'm getting it if it really does get on sprint I know that the new galaxy s3 is going to be better spec wise but its a nexus & pure Google is great no bloat upgrades come are way first the nexus s4g is getting ice cream sandwich in a few months but I still want this dual core super amoled 720 p HD 316ppi monster!!!

Good news! I got my upgrade waiting on this puppy!

wow! one year with sprint! :)

so I log in to check my bill at sprint.com, wanted to browse as i am looking for another phone to play with.. LOl
it's been a year, got my deposit back! wahoot!
seeing a little credit in there is nice, I have to say form all the stories i have heard about sprint being on these boards for almost a year, I have had a pleasurable experience with them, the financing department is first class, had some billing issues with them and they were as pleasant as can be. I do feel their service can be better in their stores, as My trusty evo's charging port let go back in november, and i had some rough spots tryin to get sprint to help me, so i went to htc and they resolved my issue no problems, so in a nutshell i am a happy customer!
now, do i want a design4g, epic4g touch, or photon4g? LOL
Totally agree with you. I have had a very pleasant experience with Sprint as well. Had a couple small billing issues that were fixed very quickly and drop less calls now than with Verizon. I used Verizon for 9 years but the cost was getting out of control. So far over the last 20 months, I have saved $2256 by switching. Total win
Sprint is great for the price. Just wait til network vision rolls out and coverage increases.

hah +1 for sprint gotta admit cept i just moved and i have ZERO coverage
note its northern wisconsin so i shouldnt expect to much i wish my evo had a unlocked sim slot i'd just grab a voice plan from att (closest tower is across the bay and its att of course)

I have been itching for the epic touch 4g....
Grats! I remember when I got my deposit back...was stoked to have 2 free months of service basically. As far as upgrading your phone I would hold off on that. I just recently purchased the EVO 4G because I really wasn't too impressed with the newer phones. Granted they are better than the EVO but just slightly which to me isn't worth either the upgrade credit or the extra cash. Wait for some more ICS phones and then upgrade....i'm betting Samsung and HTC will come out with something great.

Which part of northern Wisconsin? I use to live in a small town(Miladore) twenty minutes north of Stevens Point.
@brad check out the epic touch 4G thats what I'm looking at haha. My one year with Sprint is coming up April 15th. I know I'm not elgible for an upgrade but I figure ill treat myself anyway haha.

right outside of bayfield wisconson hmmm hour east of superior beaaaautiful up here and no computer repair business so here i am
I agree, I have had a pleasurable experience with them, their service is excellent.
Brad, I would wait until MWC. I am having the same debate, I am going to wait for my 2 years to officially upgrade but if I get the chance to try a different handset I will. My wife needs a replacement EVO but I am kind of hoping they wont have one and we will have to get something else... we will see. But HTC is going to be launching something BIG this year!
I'm waiting it out too. Galaxy Nexus, sure it has LTE but it is last year's technology. I have very high hopes for MWC and shall be revealed there.
Out of Design, Photon, or Epic Touch?
Design has basically no development community. Smaller screen, and single core just doesn't cut it for me.
Photon has Motoblur and it is a worldphone, if you're into that kind of thing. It has a small but quality development community, jokersax has put out some good stuff for them. Unlocking the bootloader borks 4G. You can relock to fix 4G, and you can't relock with custom kernels.
Epic Touch used to have Loss of Signal, which was an absolute pain. It is pretty much gone now. Took a while to get AOSP on it, but they have accomplished. They have the strongest development community out of the three. I think it is BML but I'm not sure. If it is, hopefully they will be able to convert it to MTD sometime in the near future.
OR wait
i can never wait for my upgrade i have about 4 months til my contract is up ... sadly i maybe switching to the evil empire (at&t) :/
thanks guys! think im gonna wait, love my evo to death, and i just got a kindle fire so i got a new device to hold me over haha!
you guys are the best

Hahaha I know that feeling all too well. I dropped my LG Optimus S a few months back and the screen just stopped working and I remember hoping I wouldn't be able to fix it so that I would be forced to get a new phone
I was a year and 6 months with sprint when they cancel my contact, for data usage when I was on unlimited data plan. Don't be, glad be sad haa ha

Have you considered calling them and letting them know that you have no service at your house. I was having the same problem as I live in a small town in southern california and they sent me a free airave. Granted its not the best solution in the world but it will provide you with coverage in your home as long as you have high speed internet.
I've had a few minor ups and down with Sprint as far as billing went, but next to nil issues with repairs or phone service. I wish it was my first year again. I've been with Sprint for close to a decade now.
As far as a new phone goes, I'm with one of the previous posters. There's yet to been a phone released that has made me want to make the switch. Especially due to many of the awesome ROMS that been developed for our phones in the past year or so. In some cases, it's literally like having a new phone every few months. lol

yes i have considered that but atm with google voice intergration i can still text fine over wifi so im content on waiting a little til i have more concrete plans and my internets its through phone company (it was through my cable in my previous town so i just hooked up a land line and/or use skype) thanks for the suggestion.
and my ex got the airave since it was tied to her plan damnit
I've been with Sprint since '99... And I've definitely had my ups and downs. Overall I'm very happy with my plan, unlimited, my Airave at no charge to boost signal at the house and my E4G that has a very mature development community... But I'm really hoping to see some quad core hotness released in the next few months...
