HTC doesn't start up anymore, please help! - Touch2 General

hi,
I just did the following in my phone:
Madremiha said:
Then put in "/Windows"the file named "shellres.96.dll.****.mui"
**** is the localization code of your ppc's rom (040C for France and 0409 for US/UK)
The files you'll find in the folder are in 040C so change them if you're not french.
And Soft reset
This operation will replace too your wait cursor by the wait cursor vista by Marshall if you want to keep your cursor follow the How-to instructions to extract and modify your shellres.96.dll file.
If you want to put your original system just erase your shellres.96.dll.****.mui file and soft reset.

please help, I've tried a hard reset, but no luck....

sorry, I was mistaken about the hard rest.... I thought the Hard reset was the button on the back, but that's not correct (thanks HTC for the o so good Dutch manual were they don't tell how to hard reset)....
It works again luckily....

Ihave the same problem... how did you repair it?

Okay, firstly, if you dont even know how to perform a hard reset there is no damn way you should be messing with system files. Lesson learned.
the easiest way to perform a hard reset is, when the power is off hold down both volume control buttons and turn on the power while they are pressed, follow the onscreen prompts.

I know it won't help, but I have exactly the same problem...
I successfuly unhide ExtRom, but no way to write something in it...
Unlock not successfull
Hi all !
I tried to unlock extended ROM of my P3600 - but like another user in thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=273424&page=3&highlight=tytn+extended+rom - described - after changing the registry keys and soft reset the device - the registry keys show the original values and extended ROM is still hidden.
Would you be so kind and describe how unlocking the extended ROM worked with your device ?
Thanks in advance !

In another thread I read (don't recall which one) that you need to exit (not minimize) the registry editor prior to the soft reset, otherwise the changes in the registry won't stick.
Maybe this helps?

Hi folks,
AFAIK in my opinion it is not necessary to close active applications instead of minimize, simply turn off the device and wait about 20 seconds before soft reset cause wm05 needs this time to flush the modify into the registry, or in alternative soft reset via a software instead stylus+hole. This is a known caratteristict of wm05 if you do a google search you'll find many threads about taht.
Hope this help, if I'm not wrong...

Many thanks - waiting about 20 seconds before soft reset worked fine. Now the extended ROM is visible. Still read only but i am optimistic.

By doing this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\EXT_FLASHDRV\FATFS]
"EnableCache"=dword:00000001
Now i can del the extROM files, and write what ever i want, but when i do a softReset every thing is erased and the extROM files re-apear.
Anyone know what to do...

I done how you said, and effectively i can copy any file i want into the extended rom but when i make a soft reset, whatever i have copied in it,
disappear.I mean i can see only the original files and nothing else.
I have also tried to copy three other files and with the Totalcommander i have marked them as read only.Made a soft reset but had the same results.
The three files were not any more visualized in the extended Rom.
Anybody had success to write into the Extended Rom without loosing the files after making a soft reset?
If yes which is the right procedure?
Thanks in advance.

Hard reset (by buttons)

Does anyone know how to hard reset the Herald by buttons?
The Comm.manager + Voice command + reset trick doesn't work
Of course system restore can do the job as well but I like to do it by the buttons (or in case the whole system is hanging).
It is the same as Trinity and artimes
Come on jesper you could just say how...
best regards
Hard reset on the artemis is
Press both soft keys and insert stylus into soft reset button and press.
Release the soft reset button and keep pressing the soft keys.
When the "This operation will delete all your personal data, to manufacturer default" appears on screen.
Press Green call button to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.
can anyone confirm this works on the herald so it can be placed in the wiki.
Also can someone try a sdhc memory card on a herald to see if it works or not - i hear conflicting reports.
That does work thanks.

I need help SOFT keys are missing?

well after i installed an new rom on my tmobile wing i got an error message saying error cant find soft keys so on my home screen there is no soft keys? idk what to do and i am panicking
What Rom did you flash?
as of now I would go to the Windows folder, Subfolder StartUp and see if there is an link with the name: vijaytodayshrink.lnk.
If it is there delete this link and you get your Softkeys back.
Ghostrider
edit: one thing, the softkeys are only not on the Screen, the mainkeys right and left on your Phone are working, if it is this with the link.

What rom did you flash to? I flashed to open touch 5.1 and I think I got that same error message, but my soft keys did work anyway. You can always just copy the included file into your windows directory, and then do a soft reset. Then, you can go to start/settings/system/soft key and reassign it.

I know... I want to do it (hard reset). But the problem is that I can't access the Start Menu. Does anybody knows another way to do it?
if you hard reset your start menu will be restored.
If you have any acess to a explorer aplication thru your today plugins, navigate to the windows/start menu folder.
Otherwise, hard reset with the keys shortcuts, like its explained in you manual.

I can't access anything on the PDA since I turn it ON. It's like it gets stucked on something... I see the START Menu, and the two shortcut keys (in my case calendar and contacts) but I can't do anything unless turn the PDA off... But I will check the manual and see if I can do an hard reset without going to the definitions in the Start Menu (hope that's possible...)
I have managed the situation. Hard reset made "manually". Anyway thank's to everibody that tried to help.

You can also simply go to settings>system>Clear storage

That's actually not the same as a hard reset. As it's run from within windows mobile, some files tend to be left behind (files that are in use at the time, at least). Best is still to hard reset from phone start.
