Bear in mind that the Market isn't available in every region. If that's the case, the OP could try downloading SlideME, or using a custom ROM with Market Enabler.

You will only see applications on the Market available in your region, and compatible with your version of Android. Hero is based on Android 1.5, this means you will only see apps that work on 1.5.
If you want to find a specific app, your best bet is to Google it to see what versions of Android it supports.

Dave

use market enabler to get the most from market. other than that use google to search for the app. this for example turns up when i search for "alternate android market": http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f23/alternative-android-markets-25777/

Hi, I have two questions. 1) When I access the market I only see the free apps. How do I access the paid apps? 2) I used a different app (I forget the name) to directly access the top paid apps, but when I try to buy anything I get a message saying that my Google acccount has problems. I have double checked all the account details, and everything is correct Any ideas? Thanks.
Please check that you set up your google account on your phone properly, and then take a look at the market ( with the original app)... there are free and there are paid apps listed there, you can list them as "most popular" or "most recent"..
The market always worked fine for me, I have to admit that I did not buy any app from the market until now...

Thanks for your reply. I've set up my Gmail account for receiving Gmail using the Gmail app. Is this all I need to do, or are there additional settings I've missed? Thanks.
You can't access paid apps probably because Market is not available in your country. However, if you want to you can always use Market Enabler which is made available at http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/

I think you're probably right, as I'm based in Russia. I'm new to the Android platform, would you mind telling me how I install Market Enabler? Thanks again.
Or us unfortunate souls who do not want to root our beloved Heros will just have to wait for Android 1.6 (don't forget HTC has to make their Sense UI work for it too)...
Hi people,
I can't find some apps in Market.
Such as Traffic Rush and others.
I am in Hong Kong (non-paid country) but I do have a vodafone UK sim card.
so is this normal?
thanks!
It's because of Wildfires 320x240 (qVGA) Resolution.
You can try to download your Application manually (Traffic+Rush_1.3.apk i guess?) and see if it will run.
The exact answer why we can't see all applications in the market is also already around here in the forums somewhere.

I try install some app copy from a G3 friend, some report error when install, some installed but button can not display normal(part / all out of edge).
most of this is games.
more than half is OK.
more over, some app have a QVGA version. like UCWEB,a web browser.
screen is the weakness, just think it may save battery, make you feels better.
maybe we should just wait how things evolve when froyo update is here
Also guys,
Install Appbrain market place and Fast web install from the market.
Use it with Appbrain.com and you can install all applications on the phone(that are free on the market).
Appbrain does not fix the problem. It show all apps, but if they're not available in your standard Market app, you won't be able to download them!!!!
If have a Wildfire since last week. I bought it in France without any career and I use it with a Vodafone spain simcard.
When I was in France, with my spain career I was able to see/download almost all apps... But since I'm back to spain, a lots of apps disappeared from the market.
If you use the fast installer and install from the site it works fine for me.
I downloaded Mixzing this way.
Payed apps like I said are excluded because of Google Checkout.
I downloaded Fast Web Installer and it said it integrated well with AppBrain ... however it still can't download some apps i find in AppBrain. "Element not found"
or do i have to install through appbrain website?!
got it to work ... install through website ... great find!!!
Is the Wildfire rootable yet?
If so, you can install a patched version of the Marketplace app that'll show all the apps that normally get hidden.
This works fine on my QVGA X10mini
see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742608
(FYI, App developers have to specifically say what screen sizes their apps support. QVGA wasn't available in Android 1.5 or earlier, so old apps that haven't been updated won't show up. Likewise lazy authors won't think to test on other screensizes. We need to make sure authors know that there are lots of QVGA devices out there and we want to use their apps!)

does it work only on rooted?
and will the app run normally?
thanks for the help!
I've been using appbrain to get the apps that don't appear in the market and I've found it works really well. All the ones I've downloaded so far have fit the screen perfectly as well, I don't see any reason why they couldn't be made available on the market

I've only tried on a rooted device (since I removed the original vending.apk and replaced it with the patched one)
If you follow my link through to the original HTC Tattoo thread, you'll find the links for the patched apk's so you can try installing it normally and see what happens
Are the restrictions based upon:
1) What ROM you have loaded e.g. Europe ROMs yielding European Market apps only
2) Location of the device, e.g. if you're in UK you only get UK Market apps
3) Location of your gmail account?
Besides explaining the above, does anyone know how to get around this?
Secondly, is there a way to "jail break" the Tab, meaning that you can get all possible apps?
Thanks

I was going to respond in full to this post, but then you ask for all apps "for free".
Please re-read the XDA rules on warez and think again before posting.

You need to root your device and install "Market Enabler" to spoof the Market to believing you are in a different region.
There are plenty of rooting guides here, and for "Market Enabler", just google it.

I advice you to use Market Access, which is an updated version of market enabler. One thing that I like of ma compared to me is that you can set it up to automatically run on start up. me has to be run manually every time you reboot your tab. You don't find ma in the market but a google search of "nexus market access" will do the job . It's perfectly working on my tab.

Hello,
For some strange reason, I can't find the Youtube application on the market, whichever ROM I try. I used to get it fine on my HTC Magic but nothing on my HTC HD2.
I can't find Vocal Search either but that one can be found in CM's gapps.zip. No Youtube in that pack unfortunately...
So is there an address or thread that keeps an up-to-date .apk of the Youtube app ?
Thank you very much !
Install market enabler. Then launch market enabler, go to setting list, long press either us t-mobile or us-verizon. A menu will appear, press fake this provider now.
Now you'll be able to find the youtube app on market.
I know about that but I don't really want to install an app to get another app. I wouldn't use market enabler for anything else...
Check your PM.

If you're from Belgium and go to the android market website on your computer, you'll see you won't be able to install youtube.apk because it's not allowed in our country. Market enabler is an old well-known solution, but I recall Google having removed the separation between market-regio's so Market enabler was no longer required. So why suddenly is there some country-based restrictions again on some apps :/ Even youtube.. I mean I can easily open a brower on my computer in Belgium and just access youtube so I don't understand why it would be forbidden to open it from a smartphone.

If you can't find it on the market, you can always use google for off-market versions.
De4Ler,
Can I hijack this thread? or should I make a new one?
Is it possible to access market from a forbidden country?; Im currently in a vacation in Sudan (which market is not supported there) and VPN is not working either.

no no, this is not my problem. I was in Saudi Arabia (which has the free market supported) and I was able to get paid apps using market access.
But in Sudan, whenever I launch the Market it just loads the loading screen for a few seconds then closes without any error or a message. when I try to install apps using the website, it says "sorry, this application is not available from your country" for all apps. When I did a little research on that it turned out that Google has forbidden access to the market (or should I say most of its services; I get "error 403" whenever I try to access Google's features)

I know, but it is a PITA finding all the apps I want on the interweb and I'm not always near my computer, furthermore I want to upgrade my current apps and install others I couldn't find on the internet.
I've tried using VPN on HyperDroid, it connects successfully however I seem to not be getting any connectivity. I will try to look further in it. Thank you all for your suggestions.
Hi
After i install the market enabled, that means i can download paid apps for free??
