Would the N1 have hidden ram? - Nexus One General

With the Desire coming out with 576mb of ram compared to the N1 512mb, would the N1 just have hidden 576mb. Seeing as the HD2 came with 448mb, but with a radio update it was able to uncover 512mb.
Just a thought.

On the MWC i have seen that the Desire has only 80-65 MB free. On my Nexus i have 120 (will on the stocked rom )
The Nexus runs faster than the Desire. And i think google will support (with new updates) the Nexus longer than htc it will do.

And I got around 300MB free when killin some more tasks (on CM 5.0.3)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=635838

Even the stock N1 only provides 211 MBytes of RAM (from kernel dmesg), Do you think you can more than that? I mean how much RAM being allocated by kernel in stock Desire ?
TQ

i8000 has 256mb of ram... but where is it?

When I check the amount of free ram after I start my Omnia II it shows that I have somewhere around 70mb free, with half of the ram showing as "reserved".
I feel like I was cheated into buying a device which only has half the advertised amount of ram. Sure, it might be there... somewhere... but why can't we have it? Why is half of the ram "reserved" and what is the purpose of this exactly? Is there anyway to set it free?
it is possible that Samsung reserved it for Touch Wiz or samsung apps included in Rom?
Hi guys! I have the same problem. Over half RAM Memory is "reserved". I hope somebody can help us in getting more available RAM. Thanks!
"Sorg" over at modaco has determined that approx 100 is reserved for the radio, camera and hardware accelerated graphics.
currently the page pool is aprox 20 mb but the newest release from "secany" over at modaco has Samsung reducing the page pool to 15 mb to give us an extra 5 mb of ram.
maybe omnia II case is similar to the HD2 case where some geek find out how to increase RAM memory... seems that HD2 also had reserved memory for ie. radio and other functionalities and it was solved how to release it.. don't know the case in details but read over net that someone did that creating new kind of rom.
i hope xda devs can fix this issue. This is one big issue why the omnia is not so great if this gets solved then all the problems would go away. I would glady give up some space from my storage if need to et maybe 128MB free. after a cold boot i get around 60MB free thats with spb and mskip both running

Rom and Ram(random access memory) are two diff things, you cant give up internal mem as ram.
We hope one day our brother inside xda dev or modaco can create the Tools & ROM to reFormat the RAM and Hidden Store in My Storage, so we can get more storage with workable ROM, tq

Omnia 2 has 256 MB RAM as per tech spes, but only ~140 is usable, the rest remain for radio etc. so maybe this remaining ~100 MB could be accessible somehow as on HD2

the extra 128 rams in hd2 were disabled not used by radio

if camera has reserved ram then why does it have to shutdown everything else or complains about the memory and won't start :s
good question. Anybody knows how it works or how it is supposed to work?
64mb - radio (radio chipset has no ram so it uses system mem)
36mb - os crap(pagepool,etc..)
16mb - graphics mem
256-64-36-16=140mb available to wm
64mb for the radio is... kinda too much. Seriously, what does it need that much RAM for?

exactly thinking the same way
Any updates anyone? The RAM problem is pretty much the ONLY issue I have with this phone..

easiest way to solve it is to go back to 6.1 rom you get aprox 110-120 mb of free ram. theres a few on modaco.
Or personaly i find if i use titanium + disable lock screen(usetouchlockpro), diable default dialer(use PhonEx for dialer/contacts) you get 90 mb after boot. which settles down to aprox 80-85.
This is useing Sonblack rom from PDAViet
it can be found at PDAViet or Modaco!

Not true, my one is 6.1 and yet less than 25m I can use this space even though so call factory default after reset. The bloody main storage has 512m, almost 500m has been used. I have not install any program yet. The 8G is used about 0.6G which wasted so much space. Samsung designers really screwed up!
Looks like even thought upgrade to 6.5 also did not improve much of the main storage space, that really sad..
I was shocked by these amounts of free memory too.
I was found only ONE solution...FLASHING some LITE or ULITE (Ultra LITE) ROM.
I personally flashed rom by Speedfrog: http://windows.modaco.com/topic/323437-lite-roms-by-speedfrog/
Free main memory about 300MB and free Ram about 110MB...I'm using it for more than one year with great success.

Only 256M RAM?

I read on another forum that the advertised RAM is 512M RAM but the Kernel on the SGS can only see 256M RAM.
Can current owners confirm this is indeed the case?
This might be slowing the phone if this is indeed the case.
Crap. Since it is running Android 2.1, there shouldnt be any problems whatsoever. Why dont you download Advanced task Killer and check out the amount of free ram yourself?

I don't own the device but am considering it.
I was wondering if one of current owners could check this and let us know.
Until 2.2 (froyo) isn't the most ram Android can read 256mb?
Nope.
The EVO reads 512M and is on 2.1
i believe the Desire too.
The N1 got a modied Kernel on 2.1 that was able to see 512M.
Ahh my bad sorry
I believe i read in another forum that it's using an outdated kernal. Someone can make a custom rom and fix it eventually.
First of all it does have 512 MB of ram. The problem is that the current kernel can only use 0x50000 KB of it. After reading a bit of the dpram module it seems that samsung report to the kernel that 0x50000 KB is the memory size of the device. I think they did it due to the aforementioned bug.

Do we know if 2.2 will fix this ?
2.2 should but i hope some talented dev can unlock the additional memory before that
I'm using Android System app to check and its showing me...
Ram: Max: 325Mo Free: 132Mo 40% (i have seen higher FREE Mo).
and when i run like almost all the apps i can think of, right now i have like 20 apps running I checked on (Advanced Task Killer) to see what is running, than I went back to Android System and now its showing me
Ram: Max: 325Mo Free: 35Mo.
I can notice lag but it still runs faster than my last N95 8gb. (With nothing running).
Hope this helps.

What RAM size in NAND android ?

576RAM on HD2 with android, how?

Hello all.
im using 2.2 Froyo on my HD2, to say its great!
but, i have noticed that through the Android Task Manager app, it only shows 411.72 RAM enabled, instead od 576, or 448 the default.
what is wrong?
im using also HSPL3
is there any problem i should do something with?
thank you!
Help somebody?
Nothing's wrong - that's perfectly normal. It's one of the side-effects of using a ported OS, rather than one made specifically for our device. It may get fixed, but it really isn't an issue so I wouldn't hold my breath,
i saw on the nexus one and desire (512mb RAM) task managers sees 412mb RAM, so it seems that at MAX we are under of 64mb RAM, but for 412mb we are in line with device like Nexus and Desire
(on Galaxy s, 512mb and they see at MAX 338mb...on new Galaxy they see 448mb starting from 650!)
I think it starts at 576 then loads and locks the essentials to run the OS in the memory and calculates the remaining after that, if that makes sense.

Its normal. This same app on HTC Desire shows you the same result - 411MB. The rest of the ram is used by system/gpu/etc.
Android have full ram of HD2, not only 448MB !

[Q] more ram on original htc mytouch 3g

So I have the original htc mytouch 3g and i see that the system only has 112 mb of usable ram so I am wondering if there is a way to make the system use all 192 mb of built in ram that it is supposed to have if anybody has a way to do this you can email me at [email protected] or pm me eather one works
No. There are two physical variants of the HTC Magic. One ships with more RAM than the other.
no crap i knew that one has more ram then the other but the mytouch 3g has 192 mb of ram but only has 112 usable so i want to let the system use all 192 mb of ram.
dont post a reply if you dont know what the heck your talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The radio needs ram too. And so do various other hardware components.
Remapping camera ram will get you 16mb (if I remember right). You might be able to take some from the gpu and break 3d. Idk what else you could do
You will have to modify a kernel to do that (it's already pretty much maxxed out)... and I think that camera mem is only 8mb... I remember ezterry saying that ~1mb could be squeezed out of the kernel in his 2708+ thread and so far he has helped us gain +14mb (112mb free)
If you know kernel development, the file you are looking to modify is arch/arm/mach-msm/board-sapphire.h
