Spb TV - HD2 becomes very hot - HD2 General

Hello,
I downloaded the test version of Spb TV.
Unfortunately it is not possible to watch something.
But I was surprised how hot the HD2 become,
when I scrolled through the channels.
It was almost to hot for my hand.
What about that?

SPB TV
I use it 2 and it works nice.
I use it only with WIFI and noticed that u need a good + signal of the WIFI net that it will work. However not all channels are working.
For the heat - i did not face any problem.

What is the Universal? Toy, Phone or Online Pocket PC

It has been really interesting over the months watching comments on this forum on the uses for the Universal. Those who wanted a top of the range phone generally seem to be dissapointed, and who blames them for that. Those looking for a games machine really should look elsewhere. For a pocket PC, and lets face it that is what this is it is a pretty decent job.
From my own point of view I have lots of gadgets and use each for what it is good at. I spend 80% of my time either in the car, home or office. At each location i have:
Universal
IBM Think pad T42p
Motorola Razor
And with these tools i can do anything anywhere. No hassles. If i need to get on to a network and fix something in a hurry the universal has generally finished the job before the laptop has even fired up Win XP. If I need to make a call and i am in the street i use the Razor. If i am in the office or car and need to call another cell phone i use the universal on handsfree. Personally i am very happy with this set up.
I also travel extensivly. I always carry my PSP with me to play games and take a selection of dvd to play on my laptop. I have a sd card reader on my IBM so i could get into ripping dvd's to play on the TCMP player but really never saw the point of this.
So generally i am very happy with the set up. It works for me.
Would i walk down the street making calls on the Universal..... No.
Would i play games on it.... sure but not graphics type. Something like Suduko would be good.
Would I watch movies on it.... one day, but i am too lazy to rip the films, I have over 2,000 dvd at home so i just prefer to take the disc with me. I keep promising to get a decent media server at home and start to rip all of these oin to it and stream them around the house. But where do you start with 2,000 titles.
Would I change things in Universal version 2 youre damn right.

Stability for me is really good. I just dont seem to have issues. But i do a soft reboot every morning before i start the day. But am i just lucky or am I doing something wrong here, as i seem to be missing the dropdead and die feature!!
Next on my list Bluetooth sat nav. I would be greatful for an honest apraisal of the experience of others here. I plan to buy the Brodit active holder and sat nav in about 2 weeks time just really waiting to get some decent views on the best sat nav before commiting I still use navman on my old compaq ipaq 3700.
Finally I have to say without this forum I would be very disspointed with the Universal. I have learned lots form you guys over the months, I just hope that Microsoft and HTC are monitoring this forum and listening as much as I have been. XDA-Developers.com + MS + HTC rocks. You guys did the bits that they forgot!!
Views very welcome
Charlie
Things that I use:
- Sony TX1XP/XP, it has a 6.5 hr battery life, only weighs 1.25KG
- XDA Exec, used as a tablet/PDA (plus spare battery!)
- PSP, for watching videos (rented UMDs)
- 3G Razr (v3x), fantastic phone with superb call quality and rock solid BT, becoming my main phone as I find the communications capability of the Universal to be below par
Got a feeling when the SE P990 is released I may retire my Universal assuming there is good PIM s/w available for UIQ3. I find the ergonomics of the Universal and the need to use the PowerSave option a pain.

I understnad and agree with you on most of the points, except your above quoted line ??
may i know why you cannot make call with universal in streets ?? is it due to security reasons .. as you are afraid someone may snatch it from you
I agree with most of the first post here. I primarily use my universal as a notebook replacement + portable video and audio device. When out and about, I use the phone features with a BT headset and M$ VC mainly because - yes - I think there is arisk of someone snatching it - it's so unusual.
I really do feel though thatif you are not going to make extensive use of the keyboard (i.e need to use it as a mini notebook) the it is not for you.
my universal if everything to me. sure i have a laptop at work, and two spare laptops at home, but these are used more in a work and professional capacity.
my phone runs beautifully, rings on the second ring. i have extended the ring period to 30 seconds in case its in the bag or otherwise, never ever missed a call.
use a bluetooth headset, works perfectly everytime.
i have a 1 gig storage card, and lots of music on it, have never made it to the end of the playlist.
i play 1 game, cause between work, a 2 yr old, a 3 yr old, a good looking wife that wants lots of servicing, and of course my phone and this site, who's got time for games....
i use my universal everyday for:
1. PDA / PIM manager for my calendar, tasks and contacts. dont bother with email, I have six accounts and cant keep up with them all anyway.
2. Music player
3. Camera and portable video camera for emailing videos to my parents 10,000km away, and they love it, they get to see the kids in motion everyday, not just a static picture
4. I use word and excel, and the pdf viewer to review various attachments, letters, correspondance
5. WIFI everyday for surfing, and managing my other 5 email accounts (none work)
6. Recording notes and quick messages while driving along day dreaming and suddenly remember or record information on a sign that I need to get straight away and dont want to write it down
7. i use it as my full time mobile phone, but i dont have many friends, and they dont find a need to pay mobile phone call costs to communicate, we have text and 6 email accounts... but I do use it whilst driving or out of the office, and have no problem holding the brick to my ear, my hands are so big its almost obscured by my hands anyway. i have more of a laugh looking at these big blokes using these dinky little phones that almost disappear between the fingers
8. size isnt everything, but bigger is better, just ask my wife
9. i also use a lot of the other inbuilt features such as ZIP and Bluetooth and just about all features on the phone
There is no way that I would be buying another phone, another camera, another game machine.
I have everything in one, it runs absoloutely perfectly, all day, every day, never fails, never crashes, and does everything that I want.
I refused to by a PDA until they came with a built in phone, so I got the XDAII. Sold that for this, and despite the differences in memory, have never looked back.
I use SPB PP (Beta), SPB Diary, SPB Weather, SPB Backup (beta), Resco Explorer, MS Reader, MSVC, and a **** load of other stuff installed to the 1Gig memory card.
Can I my satisfaction and wonder at such a brilliant multifunctional well built machine...
To look at your SatNav part, I use TomTom as the software, a Holox BT GPS unit and also have the Brodit Active mountinstalled in my car, and thus far this setup has done everything I need it to

may be in future new models of HTC also perfom this function for you
I use my universal exclusively. I dont find any of the problems with weight that so many others seem to. I dont think the universal is particularly big either. Back when cell phones first came out, they were all this size and didnt have any nice 640x480 VGA screens.
You see sub ten year old girls these days running around with phones! If they can hold those without a problem, I dont see why I cant hold a universal.
Anyway, as far as games go, for me windows PDAs have the best games. I like strategy games the most, and some of my favorites work perfectly. Transport Tycoon is always fun, and OpenTTD keeps adding on new features. Pocket UFO - need I say more? As far as RPGs go, SNES and PSX RPGs are the best out there, and you can run them with emulators! (Morphgear for SNES, http://www.fpsece.net/ for PSX)
Using TCPMP you can run 640x480 XVID movies too, which look like a dream and are higher res than the PSPs movies.
Now all I need to do is getting a working DOS emulator so I can play Fallout DOS version! Does anybody know of any DOS emulators that work?
Nobody's mentioned reading books on your Universal.
Reading books on the gorgeous VGA screen is fantastic, and the unique ability for the phone to morph into different shapes makes it possible to put it into any comfortable position.
Currently using an MPV2000, but M5000 (universal) arriving on Monday.
Being a motorcyclist I don't have room for a laptop, 15 dvds, 2 phones, an i-pod, a PSP, a couple of books etc etc etc.
But a phone/pda that does all of that and more? Gimme!!
What I find tragic is how this thread has transgressed into a "Look at what electronics I own, aren't I cool" thread.
I own an Exec and a laptop plus other devices which both have their benefits in varying scenarios but why brag about it?

I dont know about that, thats how the thread started!
It has, however, transgressed into a "Look at how cool my Universal is!"
Not so sure about the brag bit I was really trying to say that there are many devices that can perform some of the functions of the Univrersal. But many of these do the job better in some situations, ie where you are at home in the office etc. But was keen to explore how others are using the device. What is interesting is everyone uses it in different ways. What is an acceptable quality sacrifice for one person is not for another.
For me the combination of connectivitiy capabilities and size are a major advantage for network monitoring and management. But many other people say they cannot really work on such a small device, for them they do not provide 24 hour / 7 day a week cover so the issue of a pc in the pocket as it were is not relevant for them. Therefore the small screen sacrifice is not worth it for them. If you get my drift.
So i really think this is a cross between how coll my universal is and 1001 ways to use a Universal.
Charlie
My Universal serves as my PDA, refernce books, infusion calculator, conversion calculator, DVD player, MP3 Player, weather reporter, instant internet access for email and other stuff, game box, and phone.
@stickeresq
it is useful to see how people use the Universal in combination with other devices. I cannot use any PDA for video after using a Sony PSP and given that ultraportable laptops can run for well over 3 to 4 hours for me shows the battery life of the Universal is not a plus point. Also, for me, having used a Mototola cellphone (wont mention the model!) for a week I have now decided the phone functions of the Universal are not "industrial strength" and therefore I will be using my Exec as a PDA, mini tablet and eBook reader.

slingbox on mogul

I heard the slingbox doesnt lag at all if you are on dcd 2.2.0, but i got a quick question about the remote? I have yet to get my slingbox its in the mail but i was wondering this.....Ive read around and searched that i need to download a certain bin file for IR to be able to communicate with my satellite box. Now heres the question, once i have my slingbox... i plan on loading up the slingbox ppc software and streaming via my ppc. Will all the remote functions appear in the ppc applications(since i loaded that bin to the actual singbox) or do i need to install a remote file on my mogul also?
I am using slingbox on my mogul. The ppc software takes settings from the desktop version. You will need to load a special bin into your slingbox subdirectory. The bin file I have doesn't give full functionality but gives enough for most common tasks. No Red Green Blue or yellow function keys but guide and single number key entry works. There is software to modify the bin but I have found it is very usable in its present form. Hope this helps you on your quest.
do you use it on a satellite box? if so what kind

FYI, My slingbox still works like crap, even on the new rom. It works, but not great. Sound still lags, and picture still choppy, even with a strong signal on my Mogul.
It is what it is......., I guess they will never fix it,
thats weird i hear some people sayng it works great, then some people say it sux,
what rom are you on?

Well, I just went and checked, and it looks like I am on dcd 2.1.0, not the 2.2.0.
I will have to flash the 2.2.0, and then re-check. I just don't have much faith it will fix it though.
I bought my slingbox, and the mogul, the same week, after seeing the htc6700 and the slingbox work perfectly. I never expected a newer phone, to be a downgrade.
I just keep hoping that it will all get sorted out, but it has been months, and I do not see much talk about it.
The whole thing(mogul & slingbox) has been a really huge disappointment for me. However, the slingbox works great slinging TV to my desktop computer, from the front room.
unless htc fixed the video codec/directdraw files no rom is going to fix the problems with slingbox. the same problems still exist no mater what rom you run.

Yea, that is pretty much what I have read as well. That's why I have little hope for it. Still, I am flashing the new dcd 2.2.1 rom now, just for the fun of it.
Slingbox
i love mine never had a problem with it even before i updated to the new rom..
Mine works great
I have direct tv (diret tv HD-DVR) and slingbox classic. I just install the slingbox application each time I upgrade and I have no issues. Don't need to install any ir cab file that you are talking about either? Mine works perfectly from base install off slingmedia website from my phone and everything is very smooth. I'm on DCD's latest 2.2.3.

Mine works perfectly!
I am using my mogul (3.26 rom) with my slingbox classic connected to dish network and I have no problems. When I am in EV coverage or use wifi I get an absolutley perfect picture. No lag and very few studders (less that 1 per 5 minutes). In 1x coverage it is viewable, although a little grainy. When I am traveling I often put on history channel or espn in audio only mode and I seldom have a drop, even in the boonies.
Due to the fact that it works well for MANY users, I think most peoples problems are due to upload speed on their home network. I get about 700k up. A friend of mine with an identical setup but only around 200k up often has a much poorer picture and lots of studdering.
BTW, I was using 2.09 until 3.16 came out and it worked just as well.
Jim
I too agree it may be an upload issue. I have comcast. When I was with T-Mobile even with their 2.5G EDGE service my slingbox was slinging fine. However with Sprint and their Rev. 0 and A, my slingbox attempts to fill the bandwidth which is way more than my comcast upload of 350K. I hope comcast isn't throttling it down.
It always streams perfectly for like the first 10 mins then all of a sudden framerate and buffering go into overdrive.
Also, another reason I suspect its my home upload is also because I stream internet TV and youtube videos and have never experienced buffering on the sprint network.
Oh! Well!
You will have to download the ppc software directly to y ou main memory. You do have to purchase the registration key. Not right away, but in 30 days. Sucks but worth it.
Kaiser Video Driver Bounty - ~$6930.78 Raised As Of Jan26
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351986
To: HTC Corporation
To whom it may concern,
The lack of ATI Imageon hardware driver support and the 7200 chipset driver support on the TYTN II is obvious. The TYTN II, which claims to be superior to most all current devices on the market, is lacking serious driver and hardware support when it comes to Video playback. In fact, anything that has to do with Direct Draw, Direct X and any fluid movement of pixels on the screen seems behave in an unacceptably slow manner.
Even the camera application that comes with the device slows down to such a slow frame rate that photos are not able to be captured, and cause videos to record and render slower than a sideshow. Videos captured from a third party source render faster on devices over 3 years older using slower technology.
There are many TYTN II owners experiencing the same exact results that have been briefly explained above. The lack of speed in rendering video or 3D content on the TYTN II seems to be a direct result of poorly coded and even missing driver support. If HTC is unable or unwilling to resolve this issue, please prove a full fledge SDK release so that phone owners can repair what HTC was unwilling or unable to do.
Thank You,
All TytnII/ATT Tilt/T Mobile MDA Vario III owners.
Sorry for the delay in posting....I have a sonicview sv8000. Using mogul I have zero problems that others state. Also am using slingbox hd adapter. Love the unlimited data plan (sero) on sprint and my slingbox. Very watchable and no lag.

WMWifirouter not working with psp

Ok so im using wmwifirouter 0.91 and it works great and fast with my mogul with any laptop or wifi device except for my psp, has anyone had any luck with doing so, I would like to use the internet radio feature on the psp while driving in my car, the psp is updated, should I get a newer version of the wmwifirouter and where would i get it or is there a way to get it working with the older version? Please help!!!
there is no way that wmwr will support the psp unless Chainfire can magically figure out how to do acesspoint mode wifi or the psp hackers manage to code in support for adhoc based internet surfing as the psp only supports accesspoint based internet surfing at the moment
Also you may want to update to the latest version of wmwifirouter as it is sooooooooo much better than the old .91 version
so where can i get it, is it free, can you point me in the right direction?

Why not just use your device to listen to internet radio - I Use TCPMP to listen to internet radio stream and it works perfect. Just use your device to navigate to shoutcast or some other site that has various internet radio stations and then listen. I actually saved each station and even created an Icon in Ultimate Launch on my device for each station so I just have to click on my Icon for the blues station and I am listening to the blues within seconds. I stream my music from my phone to the Motorola t 505 using bluetooth which then streams the music flawlessly to my stereo using a very strong fm transmitter. That way when I get a call, the music pauses automatically and the call then comes through my car speakers as well. You will have much less clutter in your car this way too having less devices and no wires, except for power to your phone if you plug it in.

Slingbox Mobile TV opinions/sugestions

This is the first time posting so bare with me. I have Slingbox Pro at home and since I purchased my new HTC Sprint Touch Diamond I have been trying Slingbox Mobile. I am still tweaking settings and testing but currently I find video streaming a bit slow but audio OK! Have not tried WI FI yet. Has anyone else been using Slingbox Mobile? Would like to know your tweaks, settings etc... on improving video quality.
Thanks
Sprint HTC Touch Diamond DIAM 500
ROM - 1.09.651.5
Radio -1.00.00F
OS - Windows Mobile 6.1
I have been using it for a while, though I am not sure I have figured out the optimum settings, it is working pretty well over wifi but a little jumpy in fullscreen.
These are my settings:
Player: Buffer setings-manual
Optimization:Enable slingstream optimizer
Enable fast start
Encoding:Enable sling stream optimization X
Video Bitrate 250
Video FPS 20
I-Frame interval 5
Video rseolution 320x240
Audio: Stereo low
advanced: no alert
no stats
reconnect
X=exit
no audio video offset
Use GDI Rendering
On the whole I am pretty pleased with it, but mainly because it turns my laptop into a TV, the mobile software does leave a lot to be desired, especially since they make you pay on top for the mobile software, that is taking the piss on an already expensive piece of kit.
Thanks for the reply post... I have been using Slingbox Pro and my son also who is in Germany has been using it and we both agree that the video and audio quality is great. I have SprintTV as well as DiamondTV which are OK but nothing like having my own DishNetwork TV programs. I am thinking of purchasing the Slingbox Mobile software. It's only $29.99... What's a few more $$$$ anyway. LOL! Again thanks....
I use Slingbox Mobile too. I paid for it because to it's worth a one-time fee of 30 bucks to be able to stream my tv to my phone with full control. I'm aware of Orb as a free alternative but it's way too bulky and resource intensive. Slingbox definitely beats it.
I have not touched any settings at all in Slingbox Mobile. Everything is default. I stream over 3G data and I think the picture looks great and the sound is great. I hope they update the Mobile app soon to have some of the functionality that the latest Desktop version has (DVR buffer, and Guide data). Overall, it's my favorite app on my Diamond.
I also am very happy with my Slingbox (Pro in my case) with my Tilt. I use it with the my recently acquired Motorola S9/S9-HD bluetooth headset and I have to say it GREAT. Highly recommend the wireless headset to go with you slingbox. The older S9's can be found on ebay for under $40, just watch out for knock offs from China.
I've been using the Slingbox Mobile software too and I've found the picture and audio to be fine most of the time. The only problem I have is that my upload speed via my broadband is terrible (thanks BT) so it sometimes struggles. When I use it at home it's fine though.

Anyone using a HD2 + Slinbox to watch TV or satellite on their mobile?

Just interested to see what the results are like as I'll be getting my HD2 in a weeks time...
There are several threads on Slingbox
Just search and you will find. It works fine on HD2 depending on your box connection speeds and your current data status.
I know (from searching) it's possible, but I was wondering specifically about members on this forum who used this method and whether they were happy with it...
I use my slingbox classic and sling mobile v1.6 on my HD2 regularly. The results are good and it works well but obviously depend on your connection.
Annoyingly you can't view completely in full screen using sling mobile v1.6 so if I want to watch "live" TV then I use MyPlayer as that can do full full screen and the streaming quality is a little better.
i use it almost every day at work and its great over wifi and even 3g if needed. SD feeds look better and have a larger viewable area than HD feeds. it look good as long as there isnt any text, which can look nasty (notably, sportscenter or headline news gets iffy)
i use 1.5 with a slingbox av and a solo...and i have to use a 21xxx rom because the 23xxx roms don't show all the buttons on the hd2 (though it was fine on all prior phones for some reason)
Thanks guys for the feedback
I'll have to investigate about MyPlayer - sounds good.
I did mean to say I would be only using Wi-Fi and that I only have SD (I live in Spain and receive UK FreeSAT)
I am using Slingbox
classic and sling mobile v1.6.0.1 on my HD2 as well. I get much better reception with this version as compared to the later versions as it has more access to the image controls. In landscape I get full screen, but in the square aspect ratio. There is no way to change this in 1.6. I also have found that the lower channels on my cable come in much worse than higher channels for some reason. Could be the tuner in the no longer supported classic. Later software version go full landscape I believe, but the quality is not as good and no controls. I am sure this has cut down on their support calls, but the quality suffers. My Fox News channel is almost as clear using H data stream as it is on the home set. I have it set to optimize at High action. If you have later versions of the slingbox hardware you need the later software to control your media units. All I need to do is change channels.
No one here using v2? Much nicer on my HD2. Just upgraded my slingbox to the HD version as well. Keen to see what the difference in quality is like.
