MMS Problems - HD2 General

Hey, just wondering if those on T-Mobile UK with the HD2 have had any problems with MMS? I've had the phone a couple of months but never tried MMS, until someone tried to send me one the other day. I got the message and when i tapped on it, its asks me to download the pic, i tap download and in the notifications it says unable to download.
I've tried getting T-Mobile to send the settings again to no avail, and have tried the sim in an old phone and MMS works fine. I've tried manually entering the settings and deleting the original ones but still doesn't work.
So i'm thinking its something with the HD2 rather than T-Mobile, but would just like to confirm with someone else's settings. Anyone any ideas?

I'm not having any problems. I did run a custom ROM a while back that displayed the same problems you mention, no matter what I did with the settings it wouldn't send or download. Not had a problem since though. Have you tried running the connection wizard again? (settings tab-menu-all settings-connections-connection setup) Might be worth a go.

Your provider settings govern how your phone handles MMS. You should be able to download the settings automatically, or enter them manually. I'd call them and ask how to configure MMS.

Got it working, tried what leoni1980 said, which i've tried about 10 times last night. And it worked lol, don't know why it just started working but cheers.

I am having the same issues - custom ROM, now won't download MMS.
It's refreshed the settings to -mobile UK, which is a start, but it doesn't seem to want to download

I have had the same issue on some custom roms, just seems that some work and some don't. I use Artemis v27 and not had any problems although I did have to reset my connection setting to start with as posted above. I also have 3G setting set to auto mode, although I don't know if this has anything to do with it.

Touch HD's Not downloading MMS - Orange working on a fix!

Hi all,
I have searched and searched for this around many forums including this one and found nothing to help me, so finally logged a call with Orange Premier, who after about 3 weeks of calls back and forth finally told me that after speaking with tech support that they are aware of an issue affecting the HTC Touch HD and some of their Balckberry's which is that the devices do not download MMS messages!
So if you have this problem, I suggest pestering Orange until they release a fix of some sort, at the moment they have no fix but are apparently working on it!
Update:
Orange finally suggested registering the SIM card which came with the new Touch HD as I should have registered it anyway so they know what phone I have and this seems to have fixed it - let me know if this works for you!
Update
D'oh - Spoke too soon!
Seemed to work for while but now no longer works without disconnecting the Orange Internet GPRS connection first, and even then it is hit and miss!
This is really annoying and Orange's stand is basically there is nothing we can do. No way I will be staying with orange when my contract is up, after 14 years of being an Orange customer
Wow - I thought it was just me! Thanks, and please keep us updated.
I have downloaded MMS on Orange UK, but I had to go to the Orange site and find the MMS settings. Once they were done I receved MMS and then noticed I had no internet connection (over gsm). So I went to the Orange site and entered the settings for OrangeInternet - the mobile internet worked again, but now I can't download MMS.
It's the lesser of two evils for me not to have MMS. But would like it back

Can't say I've experienced this problem.
I generally upgrade to a new ROM every week and when phone first starts, connection settings are automatically setup for you.
If you don't want to wait for Orange to release a fix, try using a different ROM and see if this works for you
I have this problem also.
I called up orange and they basically told me that the MMS i was receiving was too big.
The limit apparently is 300k. I tested this by sending from a blackberry and the MMS > 300k didn't download, but the MMS < 300k did download.
Pretty poor that there's a limit on it as some phones don't reaize the content before sending.
I'm missing out on a good few messages because of this
That's interesting Scotia, but the mms's I am recieving are from people with rubbish camera pics so I'm not entirely sure that's the reason - but I will test.
Hey Guys,
Rang Orange again today as I am getting really annyoed with this, I am planning a wedding atm and the missus is constantly sending me MMS of photos she has taken for colours of bridesmaids dresses and flowers etc.....not that I am really interested but I pretend I am!!!
Anyway, the outcome of this latest call was that I was told to ring HTC direct and they sent me HTC's phone number.....I rang HTC, they told me that they could come and collect my phone run diagnistics on it and let me know if it was an issue, however they would not provide a replacement and the whole process would take a couple of weeks!
I said this was not acceptable and was there not a fix for it, were they even awar of it? The answer was that it was an orange branded phone and they don't issue ROM updates that orange do and to call them!
I called orange back told them the good news, that it was infact their problem to deal with....with which they said they will go back to technical support!
In the mean time I have done anther hard reset and it seems to have downloaded a message, but then once my poush email etc is setup again it stops downloading MMS again. So I think it is to do with having two connections running at the same time Surely this is not acceptable!
I also asked orange for another phone until they got a fix, told them I wanted either a different brand phone or another HTC model until they had a fix. Apparently the system will not allow this!!!
I know I could flash another ROM, and I would class myself as pretty technical - but I don't see why I should have to do this and also I will then get no support from Orange if I am on a non-standard ROM? Also where to start, there are so many ROMS floating about, which one to choose?!
Anyways, thought I would keep you all posted.
Cheers,
James
james, i have also noticed this and am wioth orange.
It was working fine, then stopped receiving mms, but email worked ok, so i checked online and went through the mms settings, this fixed problem, and was again able to receive mms, but email didnt work - it is a problem with the mms settings and internet settings running at same time.
when you check the connections folder, and manage existing connections - only orange internet is present. if you try to add the mss settigns it says they already exist, and wont let you add them, i think maybe if we try that, but call them a diff name maybe it`ll work, i will give it a go and report back.
t3rm3y - I wonder if you may be onto something there! I don't have time to test atm but let me know what you find out and then I will try it this afternoon
My brother who is on the Three network sends MMS to his girlfriend and she gets it instantly but whenever he sends it to me, i never get it.
Must be a vodafone thing, maybe a HD thing, who knows.

According to Orange that is a Vodafone issue, as they started telling me that they knew of a problem sending messages to vodafone, that sometimes a message doesn't get through and other times it is received more than once, but it was a problem with Voda not Orange. That didn't help me as I am trying to send and receive between two Orange handsets which doesn't work!
I also have problem with MMS not downloading
to get them downlonaded I close active sync then disconnect all data connections , then moments later the MMS connection is remade and MMS downloads OK

thats exactly what i have had to do .
close all data sessions , then it receives the mms .
Sorry for the bump but im so glad i found this thread ! Thought it was just me. I've been on the phone to orange about 6 times to sort this out and it still doesn't always work. Any signs of progress from orange ?
Just want to bump this thread again as I'm having the same trouble with Orange, I can only send mms's if I disconnect all currant data connections
B.T
You need to create an Orange MMS profile under connections. I leave mine on "orange internet" but if I receive an MMS change it to "orange MMS" just to download the message, then change it back. Works Ok. The MMS technical helpdesk gave me a walkthrough to set up the MMS settings.

Thats more of a work around, similar to closing all data connections mentioned above.
Thing is, the MMS should download without any intervention. So there is a problem that needs fixed.
Orange hit me off with this rubbish when i called them also, only for me to tell them that i already have the Orange MMS profile setup correctly in my phone.
Then they told me that it's bacause the MMS is too big.
But now i have tested large pic sizes by disconnecting all data connections and i can receive the MMS no problem.
Think i'll give them a call tomorrow again and see if there's any chance they can get this sorted.
Just off the phone to Orange.
The guy i spoke to said he had the Touch HD handset and had the same problems.
Told me to do the following :
Start > Programs > Quick GPS > Menu > Options : Untick 'Auto download when data expires'
Start > Programs > RSS Hub > Menu > Options : Auto Update Mode should be set to 'No Auto Update'
Start > Settings > System Tab > Windows Update > Menu > Connections : Untick 'Use my data plan to check for and download updates'
Manila Weather Tab > Menu > Settings : Untick 'Download weather automatically'
Now i know this seems again more of a workaround than an actual fix, but to be honest, i don't think Orange are going to provide a permanant fix for this.
I have tried 3 MMS messages so far and they all have worked with no problems.
I'll keep monitoring it and update if i have anymore issues.
i can download mms and go on internet, but cant send stupid things. tried the mms account on the manage settings tab, but dont help, tried the turning off auto update idea, still no help, its well annoying.!!!
I got my HTC Touch HD on monday and all has been fine and have been getting mms with no problems, out of interest I followed scotia_rfc's work around and discovered that my phone was default set up as he had listed, I didn't have to make any changes etc. Perhaps Orange have twigged to this and are now sending out all new Touch HD's configured this way?
I'm expecting my HD tomorrow, will let you know how mine is set up

Unable to SMS after loading Modaco 2.9!

Hey, im failty new to the rooting scene, im usually happy with what comes out of the box but i decided to give this a try.
Everything went fairly well, had a few hiccups but in the end i got Modaco 2.9 on my Telus Hero. The only thing that doesnt work is SMS.. i can't send them and i can't receive them.
I double checked my APN settings and everything is fine, can anyone help me out?
Did you update to the latest radio?
yeah
update-hero-radio-63.18.55.06IU_6.35.08.22-signed
can you make calls? sms are not connected to the apn settings or something that has to do with internet or data network at all. sms are sent in the signaling with the network, the only thing that has to be set right is the smsc address. did you check that?
yeah i can make and receive calls, i can even do the 611 to contact telus
i checked the service number, its there. Im going to call Telus and ask them to push my config on my phone again.. i had to do it yesterday because my internet wasn't working on my phone.
Hope it works
Update: Called Telus, basically i can send txts but cannot receive them, according to the SMS server, it reaches my phone but isn't notifying me i guess..
i tried, re-wiping and re-installed rom and radio and still nothing.. everything else works great.
EDIT: oops sorry for double post, firefox crashed for some reason :S

MMS data/attachments 2.3.4

2.3.4 HKTW - Rooted
It seems I can't view/download MMS attachments. I can send and receive normal SMS just fine. However, when I receive a MMS, the download button is there, but it just times out and doesn't receive anything.
I've messed with APN's, double checked SMSC. Tried using a different SMS/MMS client (GoSMS), just can't get it to work.
Is anyone else having this issue or have any ideas?
(I'm aware there are multiple threads about people not being able to SEND mms, this problem is not the same)

which flash method did you use to install 2.3.4. there seems to be alot more bugs associated with the cwm method, than flashing via fastboot. I have not experienced any problems with mms on 2.3.4.
Is your mobile data on? You must have mobile data on, NOT wifi or anything. You probably do, but this happened to me once and I realized I had a widget that turned data off haha. Hope this helps! If it doesn't, maybe try looking around to do the cleanest install possible of 2.3.4 and see if it helps that (and any other bugs you might have)
Also, you didn't mention, can you send MMS? You just said you can send/receive SMS and can't receive MMS, but what about your sending?
I originally tried the CWM flash, but got nothing but boot loops. So, I then flashed a fresh 1.8.3 SBF and flashed 2.3.4 via fastboot.

I see, sorry that didn't help. I'm not sure what else could be the problem so I'm no longer able to help much...just to cover the basics, have you tried rebooting? Are you using the stock app (other than when you tried GoSMS to test the problem)? Even if data is on, are you actually in a 3G area (i.e. can you use the browser, download apps, etc.)?

MMS with WIFI on Verizon

Hi All.
Have my MXP on Verizon. Love it. However, I'm currently having some issues - I can't get MMS when I'm on wifi - I get notifications for the messages, and then get "failed to retrieve message" and then it just never shows up.
I'm using the stock messenger app.
I know textra has an option to "fix" T-Mobile (where this happens apparently), but I don't really want to use that because it uses a different text message database than the standard one, so I can't launch tasker events based on SMS/MMS when I use it.
I have unlocked the "secret" menu and enabled HD calling, and I switched my "preferred network type" to LTE/CDMA (since I'm on Verizon) in an effort to allow voice and data concurrently. It seems to be working. Not sure if this causes an error when I'm on wifi.
I also have Adblock Plus. Per this thread I just changed my APN to set MMS port to 8080; I'll see if that affects anything when I get home.
However, as I have not tested this, I am wondering if anyone else has this problem? As I type this, I'm now thinking that I may only see this when sending messages to/from iPhones ... I'll do more testing tonight and update, but I'm hoping someone sees this and is like, "Oh, I know exactly what it is ...."
EDIT:
So this didn't fix anything. I have to turn wifi off to get mms. REALLY ANNOYING. Anyone at all see this and have any solutions? Anything?
Thanks.
never had problems since day 1 if I was on wifi or not to send MMS. Maybe try factory reset.
To my knowledge, you can't get regular MMS over WiFi. You have to have your phone data on too. I have found no solution to automatically turn phone data on when a text comes in. Every solution I found doesn't work for Lollipop.
i just got the same thing but after i updated to 6.0 so figured it was because of the update
So I have cellular data on and wifi on. I don't know if there's a setting I'm missing that turns data off automatically when connect to wifi ... anyone know anything about this?
Either way, if I'm on wifi, I get no MMS whether using default messaging app or hangouts.
There is a know issue with any app that accesses the MMS database on 6.0 ....ie Pushbullet.
Let me see if I can find a link
Found it...

XT1625 MMS Not working

I have an Amazon Prime XT1625 on H20 wireless (via AT&T networks) and cannot get the MMS to work. Interestingly, it DID work for a day with the phone in the beginning then stopped working.
Originally purchased back in october. Trying to wipe the AMZN bloat and root the phone I soft bricked it. I followed this thread and unbricked it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4/help/soft-bricked-prime-exclusive-xt1625-t3470693/ ). Currently loaded with XT1625-XT1644_ATHENE_RETUS_MPJ24.139 firmware.
The MMS did work the first day and that was it. For the last 3 months no MMS. I have copied both H20 wireless' official recommended APN settings again and again and also tried using the same APN settings from my previous phone (same sim & service), but none are working to either send or receive. H20 wireless customer service eventually gave up and blamed it on the phone saying because it is not an official AT&T phone it works on different MHz - LOL!
Dialed *#*#4636#*#* and messed around with switching "SET PREFERRED NETWORK TYPE" dropdown, cycling through the LTE options (did not perform reboot between each though). Also tried "turning on sms over IMS", but nothing worked.
What's odd is at one point it did work at one point. I do not know if something happened during loading the firmware after the softbrick or something else.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? Of course, I'm hoping it's a hidden switch or menu, but I'm open to reloading new firmware as well. In fact, I was looking to upgrade to Nougat but I see that there are only soaps available and no official release yet, so I wanted to post this first.
Thanks!
Have you tried a factory reset? Sounds like after the soft brick you messed up the MMS service.

Had this issue on both my XT1625 (non Amazon) and my wife's Moto G3. turned out the APN settings were not setup correctly so it was accessing the wrong MMS proxy. AT&T is also who our provider (Consumer Cellular) uses. Check with H2O wireless and find out what your APN settings should be and set them up accordingly.
Make the APN settings match the settings on this page.
https://www.h2owirelessnow.com/mainControl.php?page=dataManualConfig
You also know that MMS probably won't go if you have wifi enabled while sending. Many apps have a T-Mobile setting that disables wifi while sending MMS. For grins, disable wifi then try sending the MMS with just data enabled.

This worked: disabling wifi allowed the MMS to send.
Is this a moto g4-carrier specific problem, or universal problem? Is there a work-around to enable both MMS and wifi simultaneously?

It's not a G4 problem, it's more the app and I use Textra SMS for that reason but there are several that you can use. You can try that or Chomp which is by the same developer and I believe both are free to try. I actually purchased Textra because I just like the features more. In the MMS settings for both there is a setting called T-Mobile Fix. What it does is when an MMS is coming in or when you're sending one, it will turn off the wifi, send or receive the MMS and then turn wifi back on. I've seen that setting on other SMS apps also.

Interesting. I haven't seen any issues with WIFI being enabled blocking MMS messages from being sent. I just use the built in Messaging app that coms with opengapps. My wife had an issue on her G3 that prevented her from sending MMS to a group but worked fine for single recipients. It turned out to be APN settings.
But this is good to know should I see any issues in the future.
OK, have had quite the adventure getting this to work.
I did install Textra and selected the "T-Mobile workaround" setting within the app and MMS worked wonderfully. For about one week.
The all of a sudden it stopped working. Phone crashed and upon reboot MMS ceased to work in its entirety.
This got me thinking there must be a conflict somewhere. So I uninstalled Lucky Patcher and HEBF, and lo and behold MMS would send and RECEIVE only upon reboot. Not once the OS was completely booted, but in that sweet spot of 30 seconds after the main screen popped up and the rest of the OS booted. So I'm thinking there is a conflict somewhere. The only other apps I have that require root is Titanium Backup and SuperSU - I don't think these would cause conflict but I suppose I could uninstall and see.
Short of doing a full factory reset, is there some sort of conflict debugging software that I can use to trace the conflict?

I have TB installed and had SuperSU as well when I was on stock. Didn't see any issues with MMS once I got APN setup correctly. Short of doing a factory reset or disabling individual apps you probably don't have any options to find the conflict, if that is the issue.
