Really quick question..please help. - Nexus One General

ok, after hours and hours I finally got cyanogenmod 5.0 on my N1. I rebooted and now some of my stock apps are gone (marketplace). What do i need to do at this point? thanks!

Next time ask in general since there is no Q&A for the Nexus.
Download and flash the google add on on cyanogen's page (http://www.mediafire.com/file/jmmzywtlnjd/gapps-passion-ERE27-2-signed.zip)
in recovery the same way you flashed the rom. Do not wipe.

thank you good sir..i will try it. much oblige.

Ok, David. I have downloaded the google addons and got 2 files "META-INF" and "system". I am in fastboot mode and have command prompt but dont know where to go from here.

You need to flash it in recovery. I think its power down in bootloader to access recovery (not entirely sure since I always adb shell reboot recovery) but there should be a list of button presses.
After you get to recovery, select the mount usb option, then drag that .zip file to the root of your sdcard, then select the mount usb option to unmount the sdcard, then select flash any .zip and select the file you just put on there.

To get to recovery, power off the phone. Then power it back on while holding down 'volume down'. Then use the volume down key to select 'Recovery', and press power button to enter it. That's what I do, at least.

did you also apply the google app the google add on piece?

got it. LOL you guys are awesome. Man, I am going to learn a lot from this place. Thanks!!

Me? Yeah. I flashed cyanogens core update, then the google app addons, then the multi touch fix(when that was necessary) then rebooted into fastboot and flashed the radio update

Ok here's what you do. First, copy the zip file to the sd card (don't unzip it). Then you should boot into recovery mode ( hold the volume down button and boot the phone. you might need to wait a little but you should navigate to the second item (Recovery) and click it ( volume up/down to navigate, power button to click). now in the Amon RA recovery you need to navigate, using the track ball, to ( flash zip from sd card ) and click it. then click on the zip you just copied and follow the instructions.
Hope that helps

now i can get to the bootload screen but when i go to update from sd; it takes me there but i have nothing to back it up from
ive been trying to figure out a way to load a recovery backup to sd but the pc will not read the sd card anymore...
how can i fix this or am i stuck with an expensive paper weight?

Question: Do you have clockworkmod on it?
(I figure you unocked and roote via adb/Fastboot - but if you can do it some other way and you did here they are]
Get ADB and Fastboot - figure out how the commands work (from Terminal/console/Command Prompt).
U need to put the files u want to flash (*.imgs in the same place as fastboot/ADB unless you're good a remembering your paths, if you have OS X simply drag and drop commands and files into terminal)
See if you can find a clockwork recovery image,
Download a stock rom - report back
Basically:
fastboot flash boot example.img
Fastboot flash recover example-recovery.img
that should work. I'll keep an eye on this thread.
After flashing CWR, go to mounts and storage and select mount USB storage, from there you can access your sdcard and copy files over.
The USB storage might take a minute or so to show up on your computer, if you're on windows go to my computer and click refresh until it shows up.

Here are the steps to get your phone back up and working:
1.Download this platform-tools.zip and extract it to your desktop
2.Connect your phone to the PC and enter bootloader mode
3.Press and hold Shift while right-clicking the folder you extracted 'platform-tools'
4.Click 'Open command window here' from the pop-up menu. cmd.exe window will open.
5.If the Bootloader is Unlocked continue to the next step. Type in the cmd.exe window 'Fastboot oem unlock' and follow the steps on the phone screen.
6.Type in the cmd.exe window 'fastboot boot cwr.img'.Your phone will restart and enter ClockWork recovery(CWR).
6.In CWR navigate with the volume keys and highlight 'mounts and storage' and select it by pressing the power button.
7.Then navigate down and select 'mount USB Storage'
8.On your PC, go to 'My computer' and press the refresh button until a 'removable disk' drive appears.
9.Double click on 'removable disk', You now have access to your SDcard on your phone!
10.Copy over a flashable .Zip Rom to the SDcard that you want to install on your phone, ie. Stock 2.3.4: Link(only for i9020T and i9023, dont install if you have i9020A), CM7: Link, etc.
11.Select 'unmount' in CWR when done copying files over. Then 'Go Back' to go to the CWR main menu.
12.Select 'wipe data/factory reset' in CWR and confirm with 'yes'
13.Select 'install zip from sdcard', then select 'choose zip from sdcard', then select the zip file you want to install and confirm.
14.Wait until the Rom installation is complete, then 'select reboot system now'.
15.Your phone will reboot and be up and running! Custom Roms tend to take longer to boot so be patient.
Let me know what happens.

Are you using CM7 nightly? I think it has a USB mount bug and the google apps including market are not in the CM7 rom and have to be flashed separately from the rom.

yes, i can access clockwork mod also, but it the usb storage wont show up.....
Follow these instructions:
1. Slap self in head.
2. Power on phone while holding volume up&power button.
3. Now on the pc, Get the fastboot folder to the root of hard drive, I.E. C:\fastboot\. Also add to this folder your *.img files (radio, recovery, boot, system, data, etc.)
4. Open start menu.
5. In search box type cmd and press enter.
6. Now command window is open, type in that
cd C:\fastboot
fastboot flash * *.img
Replace the * with appropriate .imgs.
recovery, system, data, boot, radio.
Example
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
7. Now that that is finished type
fastboot -w
fastboot reboot
8. Now the phone will reboot. BE PATIENT AS THIS MAY TAKE UP TO TEN MINUTES TO FULLY REBOOT INTO ANDROID!!! Disturbing it in anyway can cause corruption. I had this happen to my phone before. Literally walk away and come back in ten. Don't touch it, don't breath on it nothing. If you have any further problems either post here or PM me. Getting the .img files and fastboot is up to you. By the previous replies you should have them already.

I think I had the same problem. first you need to check if your pc has the correct driver to accept the nexus s in bootloader mode. when that is done and you have colckword mod , you can but a custom rom on the sd card and flash that, then you'll be able to use your phone again.

Idiot proof root

Finally S-Off. Thanks to alpharev (generous donation on its way)
Now first problem;
I am the least tech savvy guy on the planet. If not, around London
As you see, the problem is me. So I need a genuine idiot proof step by step guide.
Can someone recap everything in a simple way please?
Backup, root, overclock etc...
Anyone who helps will receive a guaranteed prayer from a religion of their choice
download eclair rom from shipped roms, install it, then download unrevoked, root with it and youll get custom recovery also with unrevoked, after that follow some other guides how to properly flash a custom rom thru that recovery.
(before the rooting part, install htc sync to get all the needed drivers. WARNING: before using unrevoked to root the device, uninstall just htc sync but everything else that was installed with it - leave it installed. btw im atheist )

The phone is not rooted. ROMs are rooted. You can very well follow that guide, but, I used Fastboot to install ClockWorkMod Recovery (Which is having all those options you are listing - ie Nandroid, Install ZIP From SDCard etc).
The Fastboot method needs just one command to install Clockworkmod Recovery, but needs to have Android SDK installed. If you are willing to do that:
- Download Android SDK - http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
- Download ClockworkMod Recovery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1014498
- Extract the Recovery.img file from the 2nd link, and place it in your SDK Setup Path / Tools (eg: C:/android-sdk-windows/tools)
- Open a Command Window (cmd)
- Browse to the tools folder in this Command Window
- Type the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
- It will install ClockworkMod Recovery, you are done.
Then, simply follow Part 3 of this guide to install Custom ROMs and Stuff:

long winded way of doing it
we need a step by step with pics or at least a video on youtube, theres nothing there at teh moment.
Once you have S-OFF follow these steps:
1. Get fastboot.exe, CWM and the su binary from the attachment below, make sure you extract the archives.
2. Download Android SDK from here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
2. Install SDK to C:/, place fastboot.exe and the recovery.img in android-sdk/platform-tools
3. Shut down phone, get into bootloader (volume down + power button)
4. Select FASTBOOT using volume keys, press power button (you are now in fastboot mode)
5. Connect phone to computer, select disk drive.
6. Open cmd, type cd C:/android-sdk/platform-tools
7. now type "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-4.0.0.2-j_r0dd_mod-buzz.img" (no quotes)
8. Now you should have Clockworkmod installed, but still no root so:
9. Copy su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed to sdcard.
10. Get into bootloader again, select recovery.
11. Select "install zip from sdcard", confirm with trackball.
12. Scroll down to su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed, confirm the install, now you are rooted!
13. Do a nandroid backup from clockworkmod.
14. Repeat steps 9-12 but use the ZIP of ROMs, Kernels or Radio if you wish. Wipe all data before installing a fresh rom (ty calyxim ^^)

Okay, it took me some trying and stuff but I finaly found a way!
Okay, this is going to be simple step-by-step
FirsT: Copy this to the root of your SD card: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=548407&d=1300751790
Second: Go into HBOOT and click yes when it asks you to update (note: Please make sure your SD card is FAT32 and not FAT, it must be FAT32 for this step to work.
Third: Remove the img file from your sd card and add this file: http://bit.ly/su2361ef
Fourth: Go into HBOOT and click Recovery!
Fifth: Click install zip from sdcard (or some thing like that)
Sixth: Click choose zip from sdcard
Seventh Locate your zip and let it update
AND YOU'RE DONE!
Have fun being free!
If you're having problems with the HBOOT not detecting the .zip update, please check if you SD card is FAT32.

That wait is normal if it below 2-3 min. But if it takes longer u should check the drivers.
That wait generally occurs if u connect the device after entering the command (happens to me everytime). If it is so, shouldn't disconnect the device and wait for a while till it detects.
If it is not so and wait is longer, then go for reinstalling the drivers.

This occurs when pressing vol down + power on a full booted phone.
U should not do this. Switch off the device and then hold vol down + power. There goes into hboot mode. And for that recovery installation u should go into fastboot mode though from there.
as it was now clear, the waiting shouldn't be there now. Enter fastboot mode and try it

It sounds like you have a PD15IMG.zip file in the root of your SD card. That's what the bootloader is detecting when it asks you if you want to update or not. Remove that file and it will bypass the update step and take you to the bootloader main menu. There you can select recovery. From there, I would re-download your ROM installation file, full wipe (data, cache, Dalvik-Cache), and re-flash your ROM.
I tried that
i tried that too but it still checks for those but then lets me select recovery but when i click recovery it gives me a picture of a phone and a red triangle thanks though any more help would be much appreciated!

I don't think you have a custom recovery yet, download the rom manager from the market and have it flash a recovery for you. When you go back you should see something very different.
If for you already have flashed the recovery, press the power button when you see the lil phone pic and your recovery should come up

google search androidSDK, and install it on your computer.
there are millions of threads out there telling you how to set it up so i'd suggest you read some of those. once you get adb set up, connect your phone (USB DEBUGGING ON! enable in settings/applications/development).
type "adb devices" without quotes to see if your device is connected. then type
Code:
su
adb reboot bootloader
the phone should reboot into fastboot, if it isn't in fastboot, manually scroll to it with the volume buttons and select with power button.
now, you need the recovery image, i'll post it at the bottom of this post. after you get the recovery image, move it to androidSDK/tools or wherever your adb/ fastboot folder is located, and rename it to "recovery.img".
now, type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
it should give you two OKs, if it does, then you're all set, reboot the phone into bootloader, select recovery, and flash a rom on there

To make it easier for the OP, this thread gives you all you need to know to get ADB up and running.
Also, the above fastboot instructions are correct, but will only work with the engineering bootloader. Hopefully the OP's phone has that.

ok that's ok, you can still flash recovery through fastboot, which doesn't need USB debugging on.
so steps:
1) download the recovery image and rename to "recovery.img"
2) move the image to wherever your adb/fastboot tools are located
3) open command prompt (in windows)
4) cd to where your adb/fastboot tools are located
5) REBOOT PHONE INTO HBOOT, THEN CONNECT TO COMPUTER
6) manually scroll and select fastboot using the volume and power buttons
7) type
Code:
fastboot devices
to make sure your phone is detected.
8) if it is, type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
should give you two OKs.
9)once the recovery is in there, flash a rom on

Recovery Mode issue (Red triangle)

Hi
I just rooted my nexus 4 using the superboot. And made backup using titanium. But the problem is i tried using
androidrootz.com/2012/11/how-to-root-nexus-4-on-mac.html
earlier to try to root the phone and after unlocking the bootloader and wiping the device i couldnt get into the recovery mode. Now it comes up with android lying down with a red triangle over this. The phone switches on fine.
I am rooted though. Just need to get into recovery mode. Any help, please?
I had this happen to me. I imagine you used CWM to flash Superuser right? When you rebooted through CWM it said something about do you want to disable recovery from being reinstalled to stock, something to that extend.
Basically I think what you have to do is reflash your recovery. Either stock or a custom recovery (cwm etc).
In fastboot you would do fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (recovery.img being CWM)
Hey thanks for the quick reply.
Well I am fairly new to android. This being my first Android handset. Can you please tell where to start with. Though i remember this fastboot command i entered earlier. Did i mention I have SU on my handset now.
And is there any other way to get custom roms other than CWM? If i got for stock recovery do i still retain root access? and how can i can flash stock recovery if possible.
Really appreciate this.

No problem at all. I suggest reading this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
But I will highlight what you need to do:
C. Download the required files to your computer and extract them
1) All of the files that are required, need to be in one (i.e., the same) directory. It does not matter what it is called, but all the files need to be in there, with NO subfolders. EVERYTHING needs to be extracted into this one directory;
2) Download the attachment from the end of this post and extract the contents to the directory created in step 1. Note: if all you want to do is unlock your bootloader, skip to step 7 in this section (C).
3) Download the version of Android you want from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occamjop40d. Make sure you are using an occam image which is for the Nexus 4. Most old versions are not usually available on that site; however, there is a mirror on this site: Random Phantasmagoria.
4) Download the appropriate version (for your computer) of 7-zip from here and install it.
5) Extract the files from within the .tgz file which you downloaded in step 3 using 7-zip, not WinZip or WinRAR or whatever.
6) Make sure you have extracted ALL the files (including extracting any files in any archives inside the .tgz file). You should have six (6) files ending with .img in the directory you created in step 1. The other files you extracted from the .tgz are not necessary;
7) Reboot your device into bootloader mode (by turning it off, hold volume down, and press and hold power) and plug it into your computer;
8) Open a command prompt in the same directory (i.e., make sure you are in the same directory as your files are located). You can hold the shift key when you are in the folder in Windows explorer and right-click in a blank spot and it will open a command prompt.
then: 12) Optional (NOT optional for n00bs) -- Flash the recovery partition: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (this should be inside the occam-jop40d-factory-ca7602f0.tgz )
Now hope this all works for you, I am at work and have never actually done any of this on my own (other then flash a custom recovery).
But that guide is awesome, read through it sure it will help you out.
I have this issue with a huge difference I haven't rooted or unlock the boot loader on my device, but when I try to get in to recovery I get the red triangle and the no command. Is anybody having this issue? How can I fix it?

Yes is supposed to get there the problem is, I get to the first menu, press volume down to select recovery mode, get in to recovery mode, it gets in and shows a laid down android with the red triangle on top an the no command message below, I press volume up or volume down and it does nothing just keeps showing no command, the only way to get out is by holding power button for several seconds.
this never happened to me on mi Galaxy and I don,t know whats going on, as I said on this particular device I haven't rooted or unlock the boot loader, it is completely stock.
Thanks in advance for your help.
To get to the menu on the triangle thing, you need to press power then while holding it tap the volume up. After that the menu will be shown. Pressing only the volume buttons won't do it

flash an older version of CWM and then flash the revert recovery disabler from recovery

As i said before, I press volume down + power and get to the main menu, then i select recovery mode by pressing the power button and enter recovery mode (all this works perfect), after I enter recovery mode, there is just the android with the red triangle on top and the no command on the bottom, and I press the volume up and down buttons and nothing happens.
As I said this is a new device never rotted locked boot loader, I really don't know whats wrong here.
You're not reading it correctly. When you are in the android with triangle, press POWER then VOLUME UP to access the menu. That's what I've been saying two posts up. Pressing just the volume buttons in that screen won't get you anywhere

happened to me, too. easy solution, get goomanager from play, tap settings, tap install open recovery. that will install TWRP right away. btw, TWRP is everything that CWM is not, use it, its so much better.

Man, Thanks, now i got it, it worked perfectly. you guys are the reason I am on android and not in another OS. Thanks again
So, I followed this guide: http://www.androidrootz.com/2012/11/how-to-root-nexus-4-on-mac.html
Booted in CWM followed all the steps, and the last step to reboot the device, it rebooted but never went back to CWM.
Now I am constantly getting the Android with Triangle and "no command" so I guess it keeps me in stock recovery.
My bootloader shows unlocked.
Please help, what should I do? I can't seem to get the phone to do a hard reset by holding power+volume down then tapping back and home?
When you get to the android with "!", it should be power then volume up not volume down
Flowed and Tapped from my Nexus
Power and Volume up at the red triangle does NOTHING. Droid Bionic
It can install twrp easily or cwm from an IMG file

Have you guys tried nexus root toolkit from fastboot mode it might be able to help you
It is available to download here https://www.google.com/amp/www.wugfresh.com/nrt/amp/
Cwm isn't supported any more on n4 I would switch to twrp personally

Installed OTA 4.2.2 and lost root, recovery shows "no command".

Hello,
I installed 4.2.2 OTA and now Apps keep flashing notifications across the bottom of the screen saying "requested SuperUser" so I went to go to recovery to reinstall apk, but my recovery mode now says "No Command" with an android guy and an exclamation. I tried root checker and it looks like I do not have root any more? What exactly do I need to do if it was already rooted?
Thanks all.

OTA`s break root. Reflash a custom recovery in fastboot if need be and flash the superSU.zip in CWM. That should solve it
Does that wipe my phone? I remember something I did originally wiped it.
I am also in the same position.
I lost my root.
How do I get root access again? I used wugfresh's toolkit, so everything was automated, but his toolkit isn't compatible with 4.2.2 yet...
Do I need to unlock the bootloader first? then install custom recovery?
Can someone link to instructions on how to do this? I am completely noob and don't know very much.
Thanks.

Find the download somewhere on here for "fastboot" and "adb", once you have it and all the files, download this .http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-mako.img Once downloaded put it in the same folder as the fastboot.exe and the adb.exe.
Then in that folder hold shift and right click and select "open command prompt here" and then copy and paste this.
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-mako.img
The type in "fastboot reboot" then you need to find and download the Clockworkmod superuser zip, plug your phone in usb and then upload it to the main directory of your phone. Turn the phone off and hold volume down and then power at the same time. Once that is up press volume down until you see "Recovery" and hit that, either with finger or I think you can press power to select it. Once there select "Install from zip", then look in the /0 folder I think to see the zip you uploaded, select it and install it. once done hit reboot, it should ask you a question. I just hit yes. rebooted, and now I have root back.

Got a quick question; which recovery did you use at the time of the OTA update?
don't flash any custom recovery or you won't get OTA
use superboot in DEVELOPING forum
it will fix everything

This incorrect. You will, get the OTA and it will be able to install successfully. You'll just have to take action on a few prompts.

If u dont want to flash custom recovery... u can use fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-mako.img...flash the zip and retain the stock recovery
same happened to eye. solution all. with prob. adb push superuser from Chainfire to /sdcard/ then flash your recovery then do not boot to android rather to recovery then flash the superuser.zip. reboot, root. if you boot to android OS you will lose your recovery and not have any recovery, just dead droid,... so sad to see droid dead... dont kill droid
