I had the same question, and never had the answer
I've looked at all links and many others and came personally to the conclusion that this scope has not been really explored; yet, by traditional XDA gurus for WM2003 based ROM. There is no real answer
Correct me, any one, if I can be proven wrong.
But in my browsing from this post, I came across a cost effective solution with the TopKey application from PDAMILL. http://www.pdamill.com/prod_tk.shtml
It is amazingly efficient and multi language (all user definable). The only draw back, to me, is the too small key size.
It is a good walk-around for an unsolved WM 2003 limitation.
it should be possible but as far as i know only for pocketword
it dont share the dictionary with outlook for some reason
Thanks for the info Tanguy

Moving to Japan with Hermes?

I'll be moving to Japan in September so I thought I'd get some info from Hermes users over there.
Is it enough to just install the Japanese language input program I've seen in the searches? Or do you guys recommend sticking a full Japanese ROM on there? My kanji skills are sub-par, so that worries me about putting a full ROM on.
Suggestions for service providers, and general cost for voice+data? Is it cheaper for non-PDA phones? Will they freak out if I bring my Hermes since I won't need a phone with my contract?

I will be a bit OT, hope you do not mind...
If you wish to use non-commercial input methods posted here you will need two things:
> japanese fonts (to view characters instead of squares)
> japanese input system
Asukal on this forum is source of knowledge in that matter. He is japanese and he has posted here a lot of methods how to view or input far eastern languages. Definitely give him a pm, or view some of his threads. I've been able to use his input methods .cabs on english ROM without problem (well when writing with hardware keyboard I lost ability to input special symbols via "dot" and "space" combination, but apart from that it is working fine and I doubt you will need these because you use english).
Thanks, KarhU. I'll read through Asukal's posts to get me up to speed.

A team involved in developing CUSTOM ROMs for athena
First step was to unlock the athena to allow the use of a CUSTOM RUU (ROM UPDATE UTILITY)
This could be done using a CUSTOM SPL (I think it stands for SYSTEM PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE) . This SPL has to be loaded into the Phone to allow the bypassing of CID (language and vendor ID), SIM lock and other protections (and some other things, but we could talk about those later).
I you want to load this CUSTOM SPL you need a working OS, then you transfer the spl cab via Activesync and load it. BUT if something goes wrong and your new OS has problem.... you are in trouble, because you can't load the CUSTOM SPL again ! (And SIM unlock couldn't be done in this way)
Athena Project first released (OLIPRO did it) HARD coded SPL (HARD-SPL) and a WRAPPER. The first allows SIM UNLOCK too, and his more complex, the second just allows to bypass language and vendor's ID
Then they started releasing ROMs, PK DUAL was the latest and we are waiting for AP4.
Oh ok. Over in the Kaiser and Herald forums its just random people making random ROMs, no teams.

Help for guy new to the Universal

Hi everyone
I'm familiar with Windows Mobile but not to the HTC Universal itself. Can people recommend to me what the best WM 6.1 ROM is, how I unlock the device to use on any network and where I can find a list of recommended apps to use on WM 6.1 with the Universal?
Many thanks
Sam
That's a "no no" question to post here, there are many people who don't like to see this types of questions because it seems so simple to arrive and ask something like it without doing some search and read in the forum, please don't misunderstand me, I'm not mad at you, anyway it's better to read some and then ask.
So, the best WM6 rom is the one that better suits your needs, go to the WM6 part of the Universal, read some, read the comments, many of them are heavily personalized, there are "vanilla" types (simple and clean, no branding, etc.), there are some that give you lots of software already inside the Rom, so you'll save your precious Ram space for something else, some are speedier, some are more stable -even if this is not a critic, that's it, there's lot of effort that people put inside those Roms, for FREE!-, so, read, read, ask specific doubts inside the thread of each one, try (be careful!!!), learn, share and be happy!
Unlock (read!), go to the wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Universal), for the apps READ! and go here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=248409).
Cheers
Thanks, I worked it all out anyway

Japanese on Imagio

Does anybody know how I can get my phone to view/write in Japanese? There's no option in my regional settings and a friend told me to come here. Any help would be awesome, thanks!
My suggestion would be to look into HTC or Verizon (or perhaps your carrier) for a Japanese ROM.
Needless to say once the Imagio ROM cooking gets going you're bound to find more information.
P.S Welcome to the forums, please make sure you've read the Forum Rules and you're pretty much guaranteed to enjoy your stay here.
I've already checked with HTC and after not understanding my question several times, I think they finally got it and they don't have anything. So I was hoping someone knew where a crack or something was. Not being able to read Japanese isn't going to help me on a global phone I bought to take to Japan.
Thanks though. If anyone else has info or suggestions, I'd appreciate them.
CE-Star is made by Chinese company, but it works for the Japanese language.
Please google for the CE-Star, you can get information.
A very nice person is providing the software
blog.g4team.com/?p=734
My review: For using the CE-Star, we can write/read in IE, Opera, Outlook, but it does not work for any text message.
