android market search issues (donut) - Touch CDMA General

Since I installed donut (was previously using an Ion build with the first android market version) I have not been able to find many applications I once had or was able to previously find. For what it's worth, i'm in Canada.
Examples include:
- scoreboard (google)
- listen (google)
I installed "market enabler" v.3.0.4. and am now able to see paid applications but still cannot find apps which are even free and I know are in the market (specifically google applications)
Is this an issue with the newer vogue builds or is this only a problem I am having?

the issue is with screen resolution. when in qvga 320x240 only fully compatible apps will show. the same problem exists on the tattoo. switching to 320x480 should solve the problem.

right. didn't understand that this was the same problem as that since i've always used the same resolution in any build. thanks. now i feel like an idiot

no problem. this was actually a bug we had for a couple months when donut first came out. everyone was throwing a fit. so you either live with out those apps in market or download them while in hvga 320x480 and then try to run them in qvga. most will still run in qvga from what i've experienced. some older apps don't scale right.

To get the apps to show up again, load up a fresh donut rom at 320x480 @ 160dpi (fresh data too), than if you go back to 1.5 running even 240x320 @ 120 all of the apps will be visible.
Unfortunately we currently don't have a complete fix for people who run Donut at 240x320 that want to see all apps.
Perhaps soon though

Myn does that smiley face suggest you are working on a fix? This issue is the last thing keeping me from using nand, cause I can't regenerate a full market on the fly with it.

Is anyone else unable to see paid apps? I used marketenabler but I still can only see free apps

Thanks everyone.
On another note: is anyone out there on Rogers/Fido network? My most viewed webpage on my phone is wap.sportsnet.ca and I see now that they have an android app. Problem is I can't find that on market and they do say on the sportsnet website that it's for Rogers/Fido subscribers only. Since there's probably no incentive for market enabler to spoof a canadian provider (i.e. spoof rogers specifically) i cannot get this app. Would love a copy of the apk if someone could do so please.
cheers

I used a link to Market Enabler that never worked right for me. This one does:
http://market-enabler.googlecode.com/files/MarketEnabler_3.0.4.apk
You need to run Market Enabler each time you boot into Android or else you won't see the paid apps. I keep the link in my gmail account, so I can access it easily if I change to a different build of Android.

I think I was using the wrong version of MarketEnabler - I am using your new build and the included MarketEnabler (looks different than the one I had) works like a charm - can see all apps.

Only free apps showing up on Marketplace with Verizon

This came up in another thread and I just wanted to put it out there in case others have the problem and don't follow the thread. I know I have bought apps before on the Marketplace but now, for some reason, I can only see apps that are free. I am using the most recent Google Ion image, with sqsh.
Any ideas?

Just noticed that, I wonder if its the rom or if in fact its our carrier signature thats blocking the paid. I know Verizon is launching its first Android Handset by Motorola called the Sholes A855 and I am wondering if they disable the paid apps option in lieu of its own app marketplace. If anybody else can confirm this, please note like I did what carrier, rom and if you can access paid apps.

I don't think it's a ROM issue as we both use different builds. I'll try a few things tonight and see what I can come up with unless someone else does first.
Looks like we aren't the only ones... but this was back in July and there was no reply to it:
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f12/android-market-not-showing-paid-apps-22043/
Hopefully we can get this resolved.
Have tried all of the roms and I am on Sprint. I NEVER get have seen paid apps.
i second that from verizon. never have had paid apps. tried all roms. Im liking this latest hero rom though. i think im gonna stick with it. pretty smooth

I'm on Sprint and have paid apps on my phone, but none are showing in the market recently. I wondered why I couldn't find Bloo or Cachmate! To confirm I went to Applications > All Applications > Menu >Change View>Priced Items Only and nothing was returned.
I also saw that there is a new market coming out. When it is launched will we be able to use that on our port?
Looks like this might be our problem, this was posted two days ago (about the time we stopped seeing paid apps) so I'm guessing whatever change they made could have done something to our ability to view and purchase paid apps. I'm debating whether or not to post on the official forums about our problem.

Hi everyone,
We made a change today that should fix accessibility issues for some Samsung Galaxy and HTC users. If you're still having issues, please let me know.
Thanks for your patience.

I know that the no-paid-apps problem is still persisting but my luck has just changed for the worse. Now, I can only see about 18 apps in total on the market and I can't filter out free/paid.
Use the market enabler found here:
http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/
Load it up, long-press on the carrier of your choice (I use T-Mobile US) and select "Use this profile" or whatever. Should do the trick.
However, after running the Donut Market, as noted by some people in the Donut thread, most of the apps in the market will disappear, even if you go back to Cupcake.

Yeah, must have been the Donut Market that screwed me up. Running Market Enabler does nothing for my phone, guess I'll be getting the Sholes when it hits Verizon in a few weeks.

I am also paddling right next to you guys. What I tried was clearing the phone of my google login data. This allowed me to create a new google account the next time I launched GMail or Market. I was then able to see all of the free apps on Market. Unfortunately, when I re-cleared my google login data, in order to login back into my real gmail account, I was back to only seeing 20 apps.

Yeah, market enabler won't do anything for our Donut Market Corruption, AFAIK.
However, over on the Hero forums, they don't seem to have a problem with the Market. So I asked them about it, and Maximus asked to see our build.prop, which I provided for him both from our cupcake and donut builds. If I have time tomorrow I will download a Hero image and compare their build.prop to ours and see if I can figure anything out.
OK... I may have figured some more stuff out.
I was browsing the Sapphire forums, and found that the dev of one of their Donut ROMs changed the device name to MyTouch, for reasons similar to the issues we're having:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4674402&highlight=market#post4674402
Again, if I get time tomorrow, I will look into modifying some roms to see what results I can get. Hopefully we can get past this. And hopefully the problem doesn't follow me to the HTC Hero I'm getting next month.

Are purchased apps from appstore affected by reflashing?

If I root & reflash my CDMA Hero to 2.x, will I have any problems reinstalling the apps I've purchased through AppStore, or (god forbid) is it as easy as, "relaunch Appstore after reflashing, log in, then go to the list of installed apps & just tell it to download & reinstall them?"
You can download your purchased apps again and again regardless of how many times you flash or how many times you change your phone.
To a certain degree but not always. I just flashed my Droid from 2.0.1 to the Nexus One 2.1 ROM and I have a few apps that I purchased that will no longer show in the market like Pure Calendar and PicSay Pro. After contacting the developers I was told that the apps feature "Google Copy Protection" and basically Google does not recognize the ROM I am using.

No, but when you have root you can pull /data/app-private where protected apps are stored...
what if you install them to your SD card using apps2sd; I think they will remain after reflashing. it happened to me a while ago.

[Q] Apps in Market missing?

Hi people,
I can't find some apps in Market.
Such as Traffic Rush and others.
I am in Hong Kong (non-paid country) but I do have a vodafone UK sim card.
so is this normal?
thanks!
It's because of Wildfires 320x240 (qVGA) Resolution.
You can try to download your Application manually (Traffic+Rush_1.3.apk i guess?) and see if it will run.
The exact answer why we can't see all applications in the market is also already around here in the forums somewhere.

I try install some app copy from a G3 friend, some report error when install, some installed but button can not display normal(part / all out of edge).
most of this is games.
more than half is OK.
more over, some app have a QVGA version. like UCWEB,a web browser.
screen is the weakness, just think it may save battery, make you feels better.
maybe we should just wait how things evolve when froyo update is here
Also guys,
Install Appbrain market place and Fast web install from the market.
Use it with Appbrain.com and you can install all applications on the phone(that are free on the market).
Appbrain does not fix the problem. It show all apps, but if they're not available in your standard Market app, you won't be able to download them!!!!
If have a Wildfire since last week. I bought it in France without any career and I use it with a Vodafone spain simcard.
When I was in France, with my spain career I was able to see/download almost all apps... But since I'm back to spain, a lots of apps disappeared from the market.
If you use the fast installer and install from the site it works fine for me.
I downloaded Mixzing this way.
Payed apps like I said are excluded because of Google Checkout.
I downloaded Fast Web Installer and it said it integrated well with AppBrain ... however it still can't download some apps i find in AppBrain. "Element not found"
or do i have to install through appbrain website?!
got it to work ... install through website ... great find!!!
Is the Wildfire rootable yet?
If so, you can install a patched version of the Marketplace app that'll show all the apps that normally get hidden.
This works fine on my QVGA X10mini
see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742608
(FYI, App developers have to specifically say what screen sizes their apps support. QVGA wasn't available in Android 1.5 or earlier, so old apps that haven't been updated won't show up. Likewise lazy authors won't think to test on other screensizes. We need to make sure authors know that there are lots of QVGA devices out there and we want to use their apps!)

I've been using appbrain to get the apps that don't appear in the market and I've found it works really well. All the ones I've downloaded so far have fit the screen perfectly as well, I don't see any reason why they couldn't be made available on the market

New Android Market Website

So it's finally out. What do you guys think? Is this the end of Appbrain? I loved appbrain cause I can browse the apps on the website and then just click install from there and it will automatically install on the phone. Now this can do it too!
The biggest upside to this? You can install (after you pay) "in-app" purchase app from the website. e.g. you can install the NBA League Pass from the website directly. Any other features I missed?
This is from Google themselves, not me.
https://market.android.com/
Cool. I like it.
I never really got into appbrain, because it still involved that extra step of opening the application itself.. and blah.. I think, I can't even remember. It just seemed tedious at the time to go onto the computer when it was quicker on my phone.
Then when Google does it, I'm all over it. I have been installing random applications just to install them. Why is this so awesome?!
I played with it for a while now and everything seems to be working well. I guess I can save some space by uninstalling appbrain and use this instead.
sweet jesus!
I'm like'n it...good stuff!
The automatic OTA install is working to my N1 and my Galaxy Tab now, it wasn't earlier this morning.
Works well!

That's actually a good thing. You download the "free" application, and then if you decide to unlock it you buy the key from within the app rather than a separate unlocker application, or having the market cluttered with 2 separate versions.
Sounds like a plan!
The in-app purchasing as a general concept I'm not a massive fan off as it has the potential to lead to nickle & diming, primarily for games, but if used responsibly it should be good.
Wow, about time. Glad to see it's finally here.
now all they need to do is let you backup your app data. I dont want to lose my angry birds scores everytime i switch roms and forget to back it up with titamium backup
Well, I don't suppose there's a way for Market Enabler to work on the website?
It lists paid apps from all over the world, but it knows your phone's carrier and will prevent installs if your country does not support it..
I guess it's back to Market Enabler on the phone.
Anyone else having trouble actually buying apps from the website? Installing free apps works like a charm, but trying to purchase and install paid apps doesn't work. I press continue and _nothing_ happens.
running CM7 nightlies and the OTA installs are not working...
According to the website, you need to be logged into GTalk, only my GTalk won't log in. GTalk also appears to be missing from the market, so the problem may be on their end...

Doesn't work for me, it's been years and Android Market still doesn't support Google Apps accounts for Checkout. Although I can login, no devices are listed under "my devices" on market.android.com

It's not working here on MM v.20. I've tried installing several apps but nothing happens on the phone end, the GTalk solution they give also doesn't help. Weird thing is they all show up on my app list as completed when none of them have actually installed.

I'm wondering if it has to do with it being a rooted device without a stock rom?

Mine auto updated last night, and it caught me by surprise. It took me a second to realize what had happened. I can't say I'm a big fan of it so far, but maybe it will grow on me.

Not sure if anyone else is having problems with the new version

Issue I have with the new market is blocking of apps other then google. Example being Net Swiss Tool which is an excellent network PD tool. Also textwarrior. Neither of these can be installed with the new market but can be with the old. Found this out when I was doing a emmc dual boot config using CM nightly and was reinstalling things. No I had not done a backup. With the new market I could not install these two apps. I got the old market app out of the gapps zip file and installed. Could then install the apps that I could not with the new market.
neither of these apps make use of anything like GPS so am not sure why the new market will not let you install.
At least I was able to install the old market. The apps both run fine by the way.

That's funny too in that the apps that weren't available in the new market work great after having gotten them from the old market. Especially when you consider a couple apps I picked up in the new market don't fill the screen on my nook, aren't compatible!

I think that has more to do with when you originally downloaded them, not what version of the market you are using. Google made the market "device aware" about a month ago.
I'm not particularly impressed with the new market -- I liked the previous version better.
I've also noticed that the new market doesn't let me install some apps like the old market did. For example - the FBReader app - it reports as not being compatible in the new market, but the old market it does show as compatible. Not sure why. I know I have my build.prop set to "htc" so the Netflix works -- but that doesn't explain why some apps are showing incompatible in the new app versus the old.
I found quite a few like that, actually. So much so, I uninstalled the market update and went back to the old green market.

Not true -- I tried downloading FBReader for the first time yesterday. New Market wouldn't let me - so I uninstalled the new market, and the old market let me just fine. I saw this behavior across a few apps in the new market - so nixed its update and went back to the old, green market.

I agree with wifflepig, as I've had my nc for only two weeks. (god I love this thing!!)
That suggests that the new market app itself is device aware and the old one was not, or not completely. Going directly to the market website while logged in on your PC will show the FB app as not compatible. The website won't let you set it up for a download either. I have a pending request with Google for more info but so far no answer. The first response was to contact the developer for the FB app, so I wrote them back and told them I used FB as an example. Clearly they did not really read my original email and I could see in the response that their filters picked up key words to formulate the response. I suspect "Brian" was a bot....
