★Hopefully this compilation of videos
I've been working on for the last week
or so should help you in any of your
queries about using HardSPL. Its designed
for complete noobies which dont know the
first thing about flashing.★
★Once you've watched a few, you will begin to
learn the different acronyms and be able to
recognize certain words and phrases in the
flashing process, but for now, heres a short
word list to get you started.★
★[Word List]★
LEOIMG.nbh/ruu_signed.nbh/[Randomname.nbh] - These are all the actual roms, the things you need to flash, usually they are called one of the first two names, but some rom chefs give their own names to the roms, but you can always distiguish which file you need as it will always be a "nbh" file and will always be the largest file in the archive/folder
SPL - Secondary Program Loader: Loads the actual OS. (The SPL is what lets you flash the different aspects of your device, however the stock SPL is 'CID Locked' which means only official releases from HTC can be installed.
HSPL - A 'custom' SPL created by the dark forces team (bepe and cotulla), this is CID Unlocked and it lets you install custom roms and flash any radio. The reason it is called 'Hard' is because it stays on your device after a flash, unlike 'Soft' SPL which is removed after a flash.
RUU - The official 'Rom Update Utility' from HTC which is used to do all your flashing from your pc, its essentialy a nice user interface for the SPL
CustomRUU - The custom Rom Update Utility from the dark forces team which is designed to be used with the HSPL
ROM - An operating system build from HTC, updated to bring you the newest functions and fixes
Custom/Cooked ROM - An operating system build built on a stock rom, these are created by 'Chefs or Cooks' who use 'Kitchens' to design their own roms to release to the community, these are usually alot better than stock roms and contain lots of custom tweaks from others in the xda community.

[Disclaimer: I will not be held responsible for any damage that may be caused to your device, and be warned flashing HardSPL WILL void the warranty on your device, however it can be removed, thus unvoiding it]
Ok onto the videos!
[Note/Update: In one or more of my videos I say that this will not work locked phones (as in, bought in a contract) this is wrong, HSPL does allow you to flash new roms on to contract phones (for example: flash a custom rom onto a tmobile phone) However it will not unlock the deivce]

For The REALLY Lazy Man - A Folder Which Already Contains The CustomRUU,
Just Drag And Drop Your Rom File (.nbh) In Here And Run The CustomRUU! **Download** (Extract The Folder From The Zip File)
Making any changes to your phone using HSPL WILL void your warranty, and even if you remove HSPL and, for example, you have a custom rom still on your phone, your warranty will be void. However you can revert anything you do with HSPL thus getting back your warranty, I will make sure each method is on this thread, just make sure to revert everything changed with HSPL before you remove it.
Can I flash backwards? as in - From 1.61 to 1.48. Yes you can, you can flash any rom to any other rom with HSPL (thanks mskip for filling me in )
Always back up your phone. I recomend SPB Backup, it can backup not only contacts, but your whole system (programs, reg tweaks ect) however you may encounter problems if you try to restore everything, because the backup may have been made on a different version of manila/windows mobile
Hard resetting after a flash is usually recomended, it will optimize the rom
Always bare in mind the 2 main different manila versions (2.5.XXXX), 1921 and 1922. 1921 is the older one and so has more mods and tweaks designed specifically for it. 1922 is the newest and not yet totally stable version which doesnt support much yet, (however patchs and updates are starting to surface such as one for HDWall and 25 Shortcuts
If you are getting good signal ect with your current rom, make sure you take note of the radio version, it may be a good idea to back your old radio after flashing a rom if signal is not as good
Usually you will not have to reapply HTC hotfixes as most cooked roms include them in the package, however make sure there arent any recent updates which may not have been cooked in.
Side Note: All camera tweaks from xda users are usually pre cooked in aswell. (Talk about instant meals!)

Hi,
Nice work, but i dont agree with this video.
you DO NOT have to format the SD card every time you flash.
you just copy it over and and start the flash!
Nice vids though, just abit misleading! and to be honest takes a long time, I have 4Gb of data on an 8Gb card, for me to copy it off, format, flash and copy it back would take the best part of 90 mins!!

Huh.. It takes me with my 16gb one about 5 seconds to quick format once Ive dragged things off, Ive heard it is a safe bet so Im gonna leave it like that unless loads moer people feel the same way, Thanks though

To the OP,
Well done for putting these videos up. Should help a few people to better visualise what they need to do.
@ Silicon Squirrel,
You may be right re your point on formatting but I see it as good practice as it forces people to double check that the card is formatted in FAT 32 (a common problem).

Ok, but once you have done in once you dont need to do it again!! the card doesnt just randomly change file system while in use!!
so yeah i agree format it ONCE the first time you do it, other than that it is a waste of time!
I have never in 15 years of using computers and flash memory EVER heard of that!

Dont get me wrong, it was a constructive criticism.
maybe you could note the fact that they only need to do it once, the first time, to make sure the file system is FAT32. then they would save much time in the future!
Also i wasnt saying the format would be long, i was meaning the copying on and off that is a ball ache!!

Good vids and just to echo an above post that seeing it being done makes it so very simple and thanks very much, it certainly helps new people like myself get to grips quickly.
I'd just add in a couple of vids you might want to add a bubble of 'connect via active sync'
About the format thing, meh!.. you get a 2gig card with the phone which is useless really except for rom stuff and the like. I wouldn't bother moving stuff around, just swap the card over.
cheers!

[PROJ]WMPoweruser Series ROM

Hi,
My name is Wen from WMPoweruser and we recently decided to take up your case and try our best and get a ROM for the TG01. At the current status the chances of the TG01 getting a cooked ROM is currently low because the lack of a HardSPL, but I got word of another method of flashing.
EDIT: I3v5y is working on it, and soon enough we will have enough for his test device, and the ROM status is currently unknown, just doing some research as to if we can move some things around and tweak it to get a result. He is a professional at that.
Total $250.... We have enough for a UK TG01
Status
Unlocker/Flasher:Searching for a method of unlocking.. with the help of some people and Flar
ROM:We have more than enough cooks for that sadly only one in the UKThanks,
Wen
Hi wen, i'm very glad to hear this news you are giving us.
TG01 users will be very excited and happy when the custom works on the TG01
i don't mind donating to help the TG01 be able to have custom roms on it.
Also is it possible to hardspl the TG01 like you can hardspl the xperia x1 (my old phone)
Thanks, sam

Thats is what I am trying to find, and is what our biggest problem is
There is a method to push the rom flashing using the pins beside sim card holder.
Read here:
FINALLY!! there is a way to ressurect dead TG01's after flashing:
1. Format SD card (FAT32)
2. Copy SDDL+.exe(not sure if it's needed)
3. Copy whole PRG folder with desired .tsw update (i think best will be the one dedicated to your language version
4. under sim card slot you'll find black plastic sticker (little bit hard to remove)
5. after removal of plastic sticker there are 3 pins
6. put battery back turn phone on
7. shorten 1 and 3 pin with cable and push reset button
8. white screen should come up and bootloader will load rom from your SD
9. Voila! Your TG01 is alive
tested by 2 spanish TG01 users and by polish TG01 user.
In case I'm not responsible for any damage you make by trying this method.
Hi Wen,
Custom ROM can be possible. The rom is decrypted by cotulla, but the resultant .nb0 has a wiered structure. It is still has some extra bytes, which has a weired parition table.Working on it as how to normalise.Hex copy paste also doesnt work properly. If this is done, then I am risking my tg01 for custom rom development.

I want to get all the current information about ROMz for the TG01 like HardSPL status, Cooks, Dumps and anything else that could help us get this ROM started and cooking. We currently have 8 cooks at hand and if we can get some help getting a HardSPL or anything going, we can have a good ROM released fast from someone like NRG, Shadowline, Ark, Captain Throwback or any of our good cooks, but they do need a test device. So if anyone wants to donate let me know so I will add a Cotton, but I am sure no one does.

Thanks, and I hope we get cooking soon

Hi Wen,
I think there is no need to create HardSPL for TG01. Protection of TG01 is half-broken.
First, we've got program called ".TSW Tools", that helps to decrypt encoded .TSW image file. You can get the software here: http://cotulla.pp.ru/Misc.html
Second, when we have .bin image, we need to decrypt it.
@Globalbus form forum.pdaclub.pl told us something about the .bin:
1. The block of image that could be intresting begins at 0x50F4000 and goes to the end.
2. MBR tells us the following arrangement: ULDR, XIP, IMGFS, FAT (with initiation sector)
3. Checksums:
Every 0x200 bites some trash (0xFF)
Every 0x200 bites some checksum (CRC32?)
And NAND control blocks.
I translated it the best i could. I hope, that I helped you.
Come on, everybody with expert knowledge get it on now, i will donate..
get this started

[Q] Help!!!!!

Okay I have a really dumb question probably but I have a completely "stock" HTC Tilt 2 for AT&T. I have only downloaded the .NET 3.5, SciLor's GrooveMobile, and nothing else but a couple of themes from this website. I have heard about ROM flashing. I am a 16 year old kid who needed a new phone and wanted to be different from everyone and got the Tilt 2. I hate the freezing of my phone after Opera Internet usage. I hate the stupid touchflo 3D. Great idea and all but just annoying. I want a new layout overall though. I looked at the Leo ROM and I like that one. I just need an experts advice. I want to do this and be able to download most of the apps from my phone. I have internet access but it is limited due to the family. I like the Standard Reference Leo ROM interface. I want to know if I should do it......I mean will it screw me over huge or will it be a huge advantage? If someone could answer this cry for help ASAP it would be awesome!
thanks
Ok overall I just want to know if flashing the ROM of my Tilt 2 to a Leo ROM, is a good idea. Just that nothing else unless you can give me some instruction. That would be awesome but just a reply to the main question would be fine. Thank you.
Link the ROM you are talking about.
The stock Tilt2 ROM sucks big time. Almost any ROM on here will be faster, more stable, and more functional. If you don't like TouchFlo3D, just turn it off.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
You have to add the http. Thats the link. You might have to copy and paste because I cannot due to the restriction by the site. I guess I have not been verified?
That ROM is for a different phone, the HTC HD2. You need to flash a ROM for the Rhodium/Touch Pro 2/Tilt2, or it won't work right (or might even brick your phone).
The ROMs you want are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=490
And the Energy ROM (similar to the one you linked, but for the right phone) is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562773
Okay thanks. Yeah I was on my phone and was reading this guideline that instructed how to flash the tilt 2 into the "cadillac of tilts" I dont know if this guy is legit... But if its not a big deal, what do you think I should do? And can I still change the themes or wallpapers or will I have to reflash again? Also do you know how long it takes to flash a phone?

Not sure what a "cadilac of tilts" is tbh but follow this guide and you will be fine.
HOW TO FLASH A GSM ROM
Im not sure either his link is
tilt2.blownfuze.org
Energy ROM is what I use. Its faster, smoother, more stable than the (terrible) stock ATT ROM. Its not as lightweight (heavier on program memory usage) than some others. But I personally like the aesthetics and functionality.
I'm not sure if the reference version is right for you, if you don't like TouchFLO3D. The Energy reference version includes Sense 2.5, which is the updated version fo the TF3D interface. Although, everything runs faster and smoother on the Energy ROM versus stock, so you might find Sense more enjoyable without all the lag of the ATT ROM.
You might check out the Titanium version if you don't want TF3D/Sense.
Flashing a custom ROM is relatively easy. But be sure to read as much as you can before you start. These are a must read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550131
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540
And Task29 is optional, but highly recommended:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649191
If you do the reading, and follow the instructions carefully, you will be fine. HardSPL only takes a couple minutes, and flashing the ROM itself takes a few minutes. It takes some time (few minutes) for your phone to reboot after you flash. Add in time to get the phone configured the way you like, reload the apps, etc., then the entire process may take you an hour or so. Maybe a bit more the first time, since you want to make sure you're doing it all correctly.
But trust me, its worth the time and effort.
tscyadi4 said:

You can change the wallpaper all you want. In fact its easier on the Energy ROM than stock (and more options). The ROM also comes with a variety of themes to choose from. Or you can change the theme with some of the cabs available on this website.
Keep in mind that flashing a custom ROM will delete all your data. So you will need to synch, backup your contacts, etc. (several different options for this). You are basically starting from scratch, except better.
One thing I have notice, the latest version of the Energy ROM (Sept. 29) seems to have more bugs than usual, due to his updating Cookies Home Tab from 1.5 to the 2.0 beta. Nothing that seems like a real dealbreaker, but some annoying things (like the album art on the music player showing the previous - not currrent - song played).
You may/may not want to hold off a bit to see if these kinks get worked out. NRG updates often (usually every 5-7 days). So some of these things might be fixed soon. In fact, it looks like new ROMs will be uploaded soon, maybe today. Read the last few pages of the Energy ROM thread for more details.
That said, even with a few bugs, the Energy ROM would still be a big improvement over the stock ROM. It fixes so many things, so much faster, and more functinal, that its still a net improvement by a long shot.
Yeah well thats alot of the information I was looking for so thank you! My next question is do I need to remove the memory card and sim card when I do this? also is this safe for my computer?
As you'll see in the n00b instructions, its advised to remove both the SIM and the SD card to avoid them from becoming formatted or otherwise damaged during the process.
And yes, its completely safe for your desktop computer.
ok so i did the hard spl and it worked i think it was just like a hard reset without deleting apps and messages but when i went to download the new rom to my computer hotfile was annoying and it came up as an unknown file type and i couldnt find it after i downloaded it could someone walk me through or help me! plllllleeeeeeeeeeeez
No, HardSPL is nothing like a hard reset. SPL only allows "official" ROMs released by your cell carrier to be flashed. HardSPL unlocks the SPL so you can flash any ROM.
What browser are you using to download the files? Depending on your browser, and how its defaulted, the files should be at My Documents\Downloads, or can be somewhere else altogether.
The files are zipped using a compression called 7zip, so you need to unpack them using the 7zip program. For some reason, the latest Energy files seem to only be unpackable with the latest 7zip version (I think the 9.17 beta, see link below), which has not been the case in the past. I've been able to unpack lots of previous builds using more common unzip programs like Winzip or WinRAR (which may or may not already be on your computer). I haven't personally downloaded or flashed the latest Energy ROM, but if you search the Energy ROM, there is a good amount of discussion on this issue.
http://www.7-zip.org/
ok so what your saying is i judt have to download the 7 zipbfolder and then it will work?
Yes, download the 7zip application (get the 9.17 beta .exe) and install it. Then it should unpack the archive automatically when you click on the .7z file.
Ok I downloaded the 7zip and tried to download the standard reference rom and it still said it was unknown. I installed 7zip. Do I need to save the rom to a certain folder or what?
Were you sure to get the latest 7zip version, the 9.17 beta?
Is the 7zip program giving you the error message, or Windows? If its just Windows telling you the file type is unknown, then right mouse click on the ROM file, and select "Open With", scroll down to "Choose Program" (if 7zip is not already given as an option) and choose 7zip.
You can also right click on the file, choose "Properties", under where it says "Opens with", click the "Change" button, and choose 7zip from there.

[TUT] How to Unbrand / Debrand your HTC HD2 with PSAS Goldcard [2010-11-29]

Tired of waiting until your service provider releases HTC updates for your branded phone?
Here comes your step by step guide on how to unbrand or debrand your HTC HD2/Leo using a PSAS Goldcard.
(Thanks go to svc und oliverweidel)
Introduction:
What does a Goldcard do? Mark's post answers this best:
"All a GoldCard will do is bypass the carrier ID check when you attempt to flash a stock rom via the microsd card that you wrote the GoldCard to. A GoldCard [as such] won't unbrand your phone, that is only acomplished by flashing an HTC Stock Rom [with your Goldcard]. If you flash a carrier's Stock Rom [with your Goldcard] then it will still be branded with whatever that carrier added to it. That means that you have to use that same card everytime you want to flash a stock rom and you have to use the same method to flash it (via the same microsd card). It wont sim unlock your phone and it wont let you flash any other roms apart from stock roms".
Note:
If you experience problems:
- Check first whether you have correctly followed each step carefully
- Read the Troubleshoot Section below
- Search the thread for a similar problem
- Post a question (Please do not send me a PM with support requests but post them. Thank you!)
A. Prerequisites:
A.1. Micro SD card (no SDHC [HighCapacity], it needs to be <4GB)
A.2. The "PSAS" Software
A.3. PC with ActiveSync or MobileDeviceCenter Connection to your HD2 (Guest is good enough)
B. Make your SD Card a Gold Card:
B.1. Back up your system (especially your SD-Card!! for a Goldcard you have to format your SD-Card)
B.2. Format your Micro SD card with FAT32
B.3. Insert your formatted SD Card into your HD2
B.4. Connect your device to your PC (ActiveSync/MobileDeviceCenter)
B.O.1. Option 1: PSAS Full Version:
..O.1.1. Buy your PSAS Full Version (30€). http://psas.revskills.de/?q=payment
..O.1.2. Following the link in the registration confirmation e-mail, download, install and activate PSAS
..O.1.3. Start PSAS (needs administrator rights)
..O.1.4. Goto "Calculators/Generators" - "Generate HTC Goldcard"
..O.1.5. Select Device Key “LEO”
..O.1.6. Click on "Get SD Card Serial from WINCE Device"
..O.1.7. Choose the right SD Card (note the Size under SD Card Info)
..O.1.8. Click on "Save Goldcard Image to WINSCE SD" (Alternatively, you can save the Goldcard image to file and write the image later - see Option 2.7)
..O.1.9. Now your Goldcard is ready
B.O.2. Option 2: PSAS free Version:
..O.2.1. Download an install the PSAS Free Version: http://revskills.de/downloads/revskills.zip
..O.2.2. Start PSAS (needs administrator rights)
..O.2.3. Goto "Hardware Forensics" - "WINCE SD Card Utils"
..O.2.4. Click on "Get Serial and Disk ID".
..O.2.5. Choose the right SD Card (note the size)
..O.2.6. Copy the displayed CID (i.E. 9E000000400000000000020002000000)
..O.2.7. Send the CID to a friend owning the full version to prepare your image
..O.2.8. If you don’t know one, send a PM to either "lyriquidperfection", "oliverweidel", "mskip", "sirsmiles" or me ("pcwe")
..O.2.9. Once you have your image, click on “Write Image File”
..O.2.10. Select the image you received (Goldcard.img)
..O.2.11. Now your Goldcard is ready

C. Flash HTC Stock ROM:
C.1. Download your HTC 3.14 Stock ROM
C.2. Extract your Stock ROM (RUU_Leo_S_HTC_XXX_3.14.XXX_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.1 5 .50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe)
C.3. Copy RUU_signed.nbh to your Goldcard and rename it to LEOIMG.nbh (Use the “Explore” Feature of ActiveSync / MobileDeviceCenter)
C.4. Switch Off your device (or remove the battery)
C.5. Press VOL Down and Switch Device on to enter Bootloader
C.6. Bootloader loads your Goldcard (grey screen) and flashes every part of your HD2 (Bootloader, Radio, OS…) Takes up to 10 mins.
C.7. When finished, Reboot your device (remove/insert battery or press red button)
C.8. Congratulations, now your HD2 is unbranded!!
D. Install favored ROM (Artemis!):
D.1. Download your favored ROM
D.2. Connect your device to your PC (ActiveSync/MobileDeviceCenter)
D.3. Run SSPL_RUU.exe with Artemis v40 RUU_Signed_0xxx.nbh in the same folder and follow the instructions
D.4. Hard reset (Press VolUp+VolDown and still holding both press PowerOn and follow the instructions)
D.5. Boot to homescreen
D.6. When on homescreen –> Softreset
D.7. For more information, read the first page of the Artemis Forum
*** Troubleshooting ***
In case you experience a problem check these points:
1. Is your card a no SDHC Card? -> SDHCCards (all cards 4GB or bigger) often cause problems, especially many of the no- or low-brand cards.
Then, follow these steps again:
2.1. Format your card again, using a Windows PC instead of the HD2's card utility.
2.2 File System must be FAT32 and allocation unit size 4096 Bytes
2.2. Make sure your card has no name (no Volume Label).
2.3. Double check your drive ID. You need the CID of drive ID 07.
2.3. Double check your CID.
3.1. Download your HTC Stock ROM a second time.
3.2. Extract RUU_signed.nbh from the newly downloaded Stock ROM again.
3.3. Rename RUU_signed.nbh to LEOIMG.NBH.
3.4. Copy LEOIMG.NBH to your newly formatted and try again.
4. It didn't help? Post a support request on this thread with a detailed description of your problem and when it occurs.
Note: Do not send me a PM with support requests but post your problem here. More persons can help you and others benefit from it as well. Thank you!
Nice job pcwe! Hope this will help many LEO owners to flash the great Artemis v.40 by Sir sternas...
So, HSPL actually will not be neccessary to flash 3.14 Stock roms (SPL 3.03...)

No, HSPL does not go well together with Stock Rom 3.14/Artemis40.
But using Goldcard, you don't need to remove HSPL before starting. It removes everything on the device.
Howdy,
very nice thread!
One question:
HSPL will be overwritten through this procedure - thats clear as eggs in eggs - but will the stock rom from sd card start to flash without hspl?
Maybe stupid, but I thought, I read something about this somewhere...

Shinson
Thanks pcwe. The goldcard image you sent worked perfectly. I was able to install the stock 3.14 ROM on my Telstra HD2, and then Artemis v 40.0 ROM

with this Goldcard you can flash every rom on your HD2 you dont need anything on hd2. If HTC Build the HD2 the first flashwas with debug same as Goldcard.

A gold card comes with its own boot environment. Its only kicked on by your bootloader (whatever version) and flashes all: Your current bootloader, radio, OS etc. Aftewards you have an unbranded HTC device like one bought in shop.
I, yesterday, tried the "gold card-method", following step by step the tutorial.
But, unfortunately, flashing process stopped at "Os" level.
I went back to artemis V37, but i'll try again, perhaps sdcard issue ?
Thank you for your tutorial, pcwe.

Try formatting your card on Windows PC (it must be FAT32). Then insert it into the device, but do not format it again. Then follow the steps to get to your CID and send a PM for another Goldcard image.
Sorry but I'm just a bit confused why you created a thread with the heading as [TUT] which has no tutorial apart from a link to the artemis roms thread which then links to another thread that gives instructions on flashing via a goldcard (which has already been written a longg time ago). I commend oliverweidel on offering to make goldcards for members as I have made about 20 in the last 2 days and it does get a bit tedious lol.
Maybe you could just explain to me why this thread is labeled as a tutorial when it has no tutorial when its really just a link to a tutorial.. Sorry im not trying to be mean or flame this thread I'm just a bit lost as to what its propose is lol
Ohh and I'm on my phone right now using xda app so if something didn't display and I actually missed the proper tutorial then i humbly apologize for this post lol.

Thanks for your input. I'm glad you mentioned that you're working on your phone. Maybe I misunderstand what a tutorial is. When you watch it on a PC, though, you see a tutorial that includes 4 sections with a total of 43 steps (including 2 options). I only link to the PSAS page and to the Artemis' frontpage. So IMHO this is a tutorial. Since you are a very experienced XDA moderator, I hope you get to see the full thread and let me know what you think about it. I'm looking forward to receiving your feedback.
(And yes, I made 15 Goldcards over the weekend, so I'm happy we can share the load )
When I turn the phone off after following all the steps and hold volume down and press power button the bootloader screen laods but it doesnt load the LEOIMG.nbh.
At the bottom it just says 'Serial'.
What am I doing wrong? I have followed all the instructions.
Although maybe I didnt get the correct Goldcard image? I went to the psas website and clicked on 'Free Goldcard gererator'
You then enter your email and sdcard id and you get emailed a goldcard image. Does this one not work?
I also got the phone to format the sd card as it does format it to FAT32

Ok I have to apologise as I just viewed this thread on my pc and it shows the whole of your first post including all the steps and yes I would regard it as a Tutorial
For some reason when viewed on the xda app it shows absolutely none of your tutorial apart from:
A. Prerequisites:
1. Micro SD card (non HCSD that is
Softreset

Maybe its all the quotes in your post but you can understand why I was confused when I first saw it lol
I may have to contact the creator of psas as ALOT of people are now asking for GoldCards and at the moment they can only be created with a paid for version of the program so if he has objections about using it to make goldcards for anyone who asks then it may have to stop. I originally asked him about 6 months ago for permission to make goldcards for members who had mistakenly flashed a stock rom via sd card whose spl wasnt covered by HardSPL (to get them out of a hole and allow them to flash a rom with a lower SPL). Looks like people are now wanting goldcards purely to change stock roms for which they should really be using a paid for version of psas.
I will try to get hold of him over the next few days and ask if he has objections to making goldcards for users who havent already buggered their phones up then I will let you know.
Keep up the good work
Mark.

That doesn't work, its for Android only (see the title of the page). You have to follow the instructions on the first page of this thread. You either need to by PSAS (Option1) or ask somebody that has it (Option2) to generate one for you.

[REF] Help for Bricked Phones - TG01 Users, Be Aware!

Flashing different custom ROMs, some of us, sooner or later, are meeting ONE TERRIBLE PROBLEM - device getting bricked... Unfortunately, might happend...
With new developments of feropont we are getting, finally, updated (in the meaning of ballanced and smooth "relationship" between hardware and software) device. He, certanly, done jobs, Toshiba supposed to do before releasing the device.
... And it is real pain - inability to enjoy using such improved device...
As a members of xda-developers community, we become pretty skillsful resolving different problems - we have huge support over here - this is one of the reasons for opening this thread - to get help, and help others. Again - everyone of us can meet the problem.
I am a hard user of Windows Mobile from early years when Dell Axim just came to public. TG01 - my last device, in which I found full functional Pocket PC and pretty developed cell phone - all in one , and with my accurate attitude in using my "toy" I did not expect to fall victim of software glitch... But it happened!
My particular problem is really unusual – I cannot flash ANY custom made ROM (even earliest – see pere’s ROM table), But I am ABLE to flash any official ROM (!?)
We discussed the problem with feropont, he found it pretty unusual - I am inviting you to open discussion here, in one place, related to most common problems TG01 Users can meet… and hope, I'll find solution for my problem, as well.
Following, I would like to provide with links to previous answers to came across problems – all about TG01. (send me links – you consider helpful – will post them here in a first page).

Hi.
What method of flashing You used to utlize ?
I can confirm only that using 3-pin metods ( as always I say - absolutely do not use this method if You really do not have to. ) should be involved only for official roms . Someone will say not true. I say I had always problems to flash custom roms utilizing this method so always, I repeat always, flash only any official rom this way. Never have had any problems with official roms but always problems with custom roms including "terrible" messages like "NAND flash error". Maybe flashing custom roms this method cause such big problems in the future ? It seems to be service mode not normal flashing mode so who knows what wrong can wait for us if rom is not official.
Anyway utilizing sdll+ software seems to be ok both for official and custom roms.
I have not had any slightest problem with it.
Sometimes people are gilty themselves. Flash strange custem roms with God knows where custom bootloaders and it is enough. For example, Nokser has bricked His tg01 and only JTAG can help him. Too much experiments with unknown matter and disaster is ready. Many people tried His last rom and who knows whether they are next candidactes to have unresolved problems with their tg01s.

fxdjacentyfxd
Flashing any device always has a risk attached, whether that be a Toshiba TG01 or a pc motherboard bios, still as long as procedures for flashing are followed correctly nobody should have many problems, but obviously bad things can happen, how many motherboards have died on a bios flash for example?
Flashing TG01 is no more risky than flashing other devices, however what you flash it with is the area where risk becomes involved.
I think what is needed is a tool for HTC devices called 'task 29' basically when we flasg custom ROMs over and over again, some roms are bigger than others etc, so they dont overwrite all system files, therefore, old system files from the previous ROM is left in the new ROM. this corrupts the phone, therefore you expeirience bugs. We need a tool like task 29.
but personally i dont/ havent faced any of these problems... *touch wood*
Thank yo guys!
To fxdjacentyfxd - thank you for sharing thougts.
I am exactly an example of "next candidacte" - I always was extremly carefull and used sdll+ only. I even did not know how to use3 pin method (feropont, many thanks him, instructed me).
I guess, (really just guess), my problem came from corrupted .tsw file - you know, we can see full sized file on memory card, when (factually) copying process was interrupted...
This is the riddle - what "changed" in the boot area, that compel my device to accept officials ROMs only (and only through 3 pin method), when customs (through sdll+) stopping it on Toshiba logo...
To olyloh6696 - yes, feropont had mentioned this future in privet correspondence - would be good to have it!
To (InsertNameHere) - "obviously bad things can happen" - supposed to be motto of this thread

Accordingly to what You wrote about corrupted .tsw file I forgot to mention that after every copy of new .tsw to prg directory on SD card I :
1) always check .tsw file in prg directory via tgtool.exe software
2) from time to time I execute chkdsk utility to check SD card.
Only after point 1) and 2) I start sdll+ uploader.

Reading posts about bricked tg01s I got to conclusion that some bricks were really becuase of corrupted .tsw or logical errors on SD card. So I have always thought it is worthy to waste 1 minute to check .tsw in prg directory than irreversibly bricked tg01.
P.S. Your case is really very, very strange. To "damage" bootloader it accepts only official roms.... I can not belive in it. Must be other explanation.

i agree with olyloh6696's opinions
when we flashed roms so many times, maybe our phone's NAND flash appear some bad blocks.it's really like the problems in HTC phones.
Maybe use Tgdownloader flash an Official rom will helpfull with this problem.
Anyway, when we cook roms, tgtool always check if there's any error in our custom rom,and we just make changes in OS partition, didn't change/edit anything with the Bootloader or Radio. So i must say the most possibility that brickes our phone should be the Flashing Progress.

It is similar I wrote in my first post. Typically ( I am not going to check more ) I am not able to flash rom via 3-pin method if rom is not official. It seems I have always had this feature. I had maybe free "bricks" since I have tg01 , because of my experiments with drivers and so that to flash any good rom via 3-pin it had to be always official rom ! Fortunately sdl++ works fine for any rom.
Did You flash many custom roms ? Maybe one of them is "this one" and it is worthy to find out which it is.
On the other hand as I remember tgdownloader has feature to upload different areas of the rom separately ( boot area too ).
Maybe someone brave could upload this method boot area ? If it works You could upload Your boot area too.
I know, it is hardcore

yes, as no tool exist, the best method for us is for every ROM flash:
1) Hard Reset Current ROM
2) Flash Stock ROM
3) Hard Reset Stock ROM
4) Flash New ROM
5) Hard Reset
You could even go as far as Reflashing the same ROM over the same ROM again to eliminate further errors.
This is the recommended precedure to follow, however I usaully miss out steps 1,2,3.

...So true.
By explanation of feropont official ROM supposed to "zap" like kind of bad blocs in a flash memory (if any exist...), but, as we can see on my example Toshiba is "writing" every thing above of exist information without "cleaning" inside flash like task29 HTC is doing... He also mentioned that problems, mostly, becoming not in a boot area, but later, on the level of (qoute) "kernel initialization, xip..." - I am not prepared enough technically to discuss this llevel, but it is seems for me like I will stay with Malaysian ROM for ever...

The main trouble is that the TG01 really does not make a general cleaning of flash Task 29 by analogy HTC devices. Judging from the descriptions of problems, bootloader is absolutely not damaged, it allows you to upload the whole flash ROM is not just any official ROM. The problems begin during kernel initialization XIP at the first boot device on any custom ROM. Every chef in the community TG01 anyway does not collect the full XIP, all cut-ins debuggers and encryption (kd.dll hd.dll mencfilt and etc). Unfortunately I have no time but first and foremost I would like to cook a custom ROM with the full original XIP, that would finally remove the issues in which there were bad blocks of flash in the kernel XIP or OS.nb.
Thx

Thanks feropont.
Very interesting. You mean that if I cook my rom not removing any .dll from original XIP I will have more "safe" rom. Have any of mentioned dll's like for debug any influence on rom speed ( can be switched on-off after flashing ) ?
Bootloder part seems to be possible be overwritten too in some cases. Example, Noksers works.

Unfortunately I can disappoint you, this is not an example of a new bootloader, and the result work of a new OEM, in particular, changed the entrance to the bootloader. Bootloader by definition can not be in OS.nb, he placed in the common part of the file .TSW who all mistakenly called RADIO, and if elementary compared Hex, the differences are almost no. Located in the very first sectors and is called MIBIB_BOOT.
Code:
*** MIBIB_BOOT Region Info ***
Region 0: "MIBI " start: 0 size: 80 r-size: 32 Ver: 0x0000 SubVer: 0x0000
Region 1: "SIM_ " start: 80 size: 48 r-size: 0 Ver: 0x0000 SubVer: 0x0000
Region 2: "FSBL " start: 128 size: 32 r-size: 24 Ver: 0x0000 SubVer: 0x0000
Region 3: "OSBL " start: 160 size: 32 r-size: 24 Ver: 0x0000 SubVer: 0x0000

I have always thought , this device starts as typical ( known from microprocessors equpipped with boot section ) always from bootloader part but other circumstances decides whether after power up bootloder:
1) boot the system and "jump" to it
2) do other action like flash upload - check 3-pin condition or condition forced by sdll+ software
That is why I do not understand why Nokser can have completely dead device and not damaged bootloader.

Since moving to Android I noticed most roms come with an md5 to check against the downloaded copy before flashing, just in case there is any corruption. Maybe a good idea to take a similar approach with tg01 roms.
I don't own my th anymore but flashed it in excess of 100 times using both sddl+ and 3 pins and never had any problems.

New to Android, Need Help to choose version, please!

I own HD2 from almost 3 years, i want to try something new with it, so i decided to put Android on the phone. I want to ask here, first, whats the difference between NAND and SD versions, NAND mean its going on the phone memory like the windows? Whats better/faster? Whats easiest to boot/install? I dont want to read all threads all night long, just want some good android rom, or few good android roms to try ... and some advice to be NAND or SD version ... and also, android 2 or 4? i dont know anything about android ... please help. Any advice will be appreciated!
It depends which is easier. I had a problem with partition SD for 4 partitions But with nand there might be problems for novice too. You have to flash HSPL, and then CLK (better than Magldr I think). But then it is easy. SD is on SD, so you have 2 systems at the same time: stock WM6.5 and android which you start by exe in WM. Nand roms fully replaces stock WM. I don't know which is faster, but I prefer NAND. If you are not going to play heavy games, then choose Android 4 with HWA, if just for phone and apps, then 2. And we cannot tell you which rom (system, one of many as you see ) is the best for you - everyone has to try it himself, my experiences might be different than yours If you want to know more, read tutorials or write here - I or someone else will help you.
PS I recommend you tytung's or dorimanx's rom. Or sense rom if you liked it in WM
There's a difference between being new to Android and not being able to read. Use the search tool and every single one of your questions can and have been answered.

come on man, if u find it frustrating to delete 500 posts quit the job man. Atleast dont ridicule the new people.
Anyways, to the person who asked, The NAND version is a bit difficult to install but as it is on internal memory, it is much faster and stable than the SD version. The sd version can be booted up anytime for your stock WinMo 6.5. so u have two Os at any one time. i wud go for NAND but if u are new to this first try SD versions.

He isn't a mod? Plus you're giving incorrect information. The NAND version is NOT difficult to install, if you just READ. Seriously people, this is exactly what I mean. Reading=good, and the internet contains almost anything you could possibly want to know if you look properly. This guide could not be simpler, even for a newbie like I was. I'm 15, and flashed Android on this phone when I was 14 (plus I don't do any computing or IT in school or anything) so as long as you speak English, you can understand this guide with ease.

I couldn't quite understand your first point (three commas doesn't really help me much) as there's a distinction between 'what are forums for but to look at?' and 'what are forums for but to look at people repeating the same old **** constantly'. Both are still wrong, but the first is far more correct. Forums are for sharing information with a wide variety of people. This includes of asking and having your questions answered, but it also includes SEARCHING the forum for your answer. These questions have already been asked and answered a tonne of times. If he searched he could have found the answer. I reckon that theoretically we could fit all of the different non ROM-specific questions which get asked here within just 5 pages at the very most, rather than having the forums span on for ages.

HTC + Android = PERFECT MATCH!!
Try starting by READING the guide, it's not that hard to do. Just follow the instruction and READ carefully. Dont skip the sentence if u don't want to Brick your phone.
+1 Vote for NAND Android
Anyway i can't tell what's perfectly right for you. U will have to try it your self.
I tried like 4-5 ROM until i found what's right for me. However if u can do it once, the rest is just a piece of cake.
Like the other guyz said. Nearly all problem that u have, someone had already post the solution for that keep searching if u encounter any trouble.
While you were arguing about my question, and writing long posts, instead of giving your advice ... i installed one NAND rom, Energy one, but i think it installed on the SD ... because it asked me to format 1024mb on the SD card, so it is not really a NAND one i think ... and also, it looks a little bit slow ... freezes from time to time, not so smooth as expected ... and i read many articles, but i just wanted an advice, why to try all roms, when you can tell me 1 - 2- 3 roms that worth the try? This forum is so full with information, that for new people like me its too difficult to see the important threads for our needs, thats why we ask you, the people being long time here, tried more of the roms, and read lall the things, because i dont want to loose mu life in reading here, for thing i can do for 10 min, and then never look back for it ... SO Finally, few people helped me, the rest was arguing ... and who is the smartest of all of you? Instead of writing long posts telling me to read, you can simply write 3 sentences ... I am using this rom, i tried this and this and are also good, NAND means on memory like windows, SD means on card, NAND is faster, read "This" thread it will help you with your problem ... its so simple to help people, do you think i need to read all this forum, to install and use android? and this is forum with live people, not internet book ... so asking is part of forum, so, i am new to android, not to forums and reading ... thats why ... stop telling people to stop asking, be nice, if you dont want to answer, then dont ... if you feel like you want to help, do it ... and you will save you alot of antystress pills! And if you found all of that information on your own, why did you have to bother creating this thread? Also, you just don't want to read do you? When you said 'format 1024mb on my SD card' you mean creating an SD-EXT partition. Again, if you had read carefully you would realise that this is necessary for Sense 3.5 builds on EU HD2s and you would know that that is a NAND ROM. I was confused about this at first as well, so what did I do? I did some READING and figured it out logically. Finally, if you're experiencing lag and stuff, try a lighter ROM such as a CM7/MIUI/CM9/AOKP ROM, Sense is very bloated and (IMO) too slow compared to CM9. Plus, CM9 has full HWA.
I can recommend NAND:
-Dorimanx 3.1.7 CM7 rom (install 3.1.7 and not 3.1.7.1 - broken script)
-Tytung's roms (there are some)
-TouchWiz roms (stable for me)
-And HWA roms, read about them, I use Nightlies and all right
And most roms, like Sense roms (including Energy) needs EXT partitions for additional data.
And better use cLK bootloader.
Thing is, posts with questions that don't have or hard to answer (can't be searched about) don't get any replies. :screwy:

Yep, that's basically one of the main reasons I dislike it when people post unnecessary threads. Not only does it clutter up the forum but it also shoves other people with genuine problems off the first page, and their questions are unanswered. This most certainly isn't fair in my opinion.

I posted this a while back and was written like it was going to be your very first attempt at putting android on your phone. You can still follow this guide from step one till the end to make sure your doing everything correctly... Hope this helps and if it does hit up that thanks button at sometime.
(Im attaching most of the files you need at the end of the post. You'll have to find the radio, step 2, yourself because i cant compress it enough to fit under the 8mb attachment limit on xda. This is just in case you dont have them already or your not using the HD2 Toolkit)
THESE STEPS ARE TO BE DONE AFTER THE OP INITIAL PREREQUISITES i.e. windows mobile device center, activesync, proper spl version...
FOR NAND
--------the following steps (1 - 3) are to be preformed while at the tri-color boot screen (easiest way to reach is to turn off your phone while its connected to your PC then immediately hold volume down button till you see it n wait for it to say usb in the white section).
(by the way your device will ALWAYS automatically restart itself after a couple seconds if it is shut down while plugged in via USB to either a wall/car charger or hooked up to a PC this is normal)
1. install hspl3/hspl4
-run the "HSPL3_PKG/HSPL4_PKG" file. should be the only one in there
-make sure you select 2.08.HSPL in the setup and go thru the wizard just like you would any other. It will only take a few moments to execute and once it finishes it will auto reboot your device. MAKE SURE AS SOON AS YOUR DEVICE TURNS OFF YOU HOLD DOWN ON THE VOLUME KEY IMMEDIATELY TO GET BACK TO THE TRI COLOR BOOT SCREEN.
2. install radio
-run the "customRUU" file with the HD2 icon in the radio of your choosing
-it will operate in a similar fashion as the HSPL3/4, automatically turning off device upon completion... make sure you hold down on the vol key again to get yourself back to the tri color boot screen.
3. install magldr113
-make sure your selecting "rom update utility" in the magldr113 file. dont run the "DAF" it wont work properly if you do and youll get errors
-BUT THIS TIME AS IT TURNS ITSELF OFF HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON ON YOUR DEVICE AS IT BOOTS UP UNTIL U GET TO MAGLDR AND CONTINUE TO HOLD IT DOWN UNTIL YOU SEE ABOUT 12 DIFFERENT OPTIONS...
[B4. install CWM recovery [/B]
-go to option 5 "USB Flasher" and hit the green call key. wait a few moments till it shows USB....USB make sure the second usb pops up and your PC recognizes the connection. then when it does sync you get to......
-while still in the usb flasher mode above, simply run you desired CWM recovery which should the one your developer recommends for the builds as the requirements tend to vary from rom to rom.
-this is achieved by selecting the "DAF" file from the clockworkmod recovery your using
-and again this installer will shut off your device upon completion and HOLD DOWN THE POWER KEY LIKE ABOVE TILL YOUR BACK AT THE MAGLDR MAIN MENU (with options 1-12).
5. install rom
-go to option 8 "AD Recovery" and hit the green call button to enter into the CWM recovery u just installed
-after it loads up (GO!GO!GO!) go down to the "mounts and storage" option that is third from the bottom and hit the call key.
-once there go to the last option "mount USB storage" and hit the call key.
-give your PC a few moments to recognize the sd card for your device and choose to open it when your PC prompts with the regular file explorer or just find it and double click on the newly recognized drive (sdcard) if your PC doesnt auto prompt you.
-the new drive (sdcard) should be empty (depending...) then just find the desired rom you chose to use, right click on it and copy.....then over to the new drive (sdcard) and paste. might take a min or two depending on the roms size
-once the copying is complete hit the call button to "unmount" your sdcard then the back button on your device till your back at the CWM main screen
-go to the fifth option down and "install zip from sdcard" and hit the call button
-select the second option "choose zip from sdcard" and select the zip file you just copied to your sdcard. then it will begin to install the rom and all rom install times vary by build. some take a minute, some seem like they take forever.
-once installation is complete hit the back button till your back at CWM main screen and choose the last option which is to "power off"
-then tap the power button(if u unplugged it from usb otherwise it wil reboot by itself) to turn on your device and give it some time for the initial boot and load as it has to set up everything u just installed. subsequent boot wont take as long but again it can all vary from rom to rom.
-after initial load and a successful bootup you should arrive at ether the lockscreen or a startup screen. give the rom a few more mins to settle and dont hit any buttons. then unlock the device or skip through the startup options and get to the home screen. maybe give it another min to settle the launcher and the last bit of data and resist the urge to mess with the features. your gonna hate this but hold down the power button and select power off device from the popup men. i know it sucks but it is best practice when flashing roms and the like. after device shuts off wait a few seconds and turn it back on and let it reboot. should be faster this time and when u get to your lockscreen simply give it a few seconds to settle again, unlock and go to main launcher a wait a couple more seconds for it to finish settling and.....have fun!
Maybe its not so abridged but oh well tried my best to be as clear as possible so people can utilize their HD2 to its fullest potential.
HOPE THIS HELPS and lemme know if i need to edit any information.
Oh yeah and as for ROM selections give these a try:
CM7/gingerbread - Typhoon by Tyween, Dorimanx High End Rom by Dorimanx
Sense 3.x/gingerbread - Team blue Droid by Dansta, Sensation XL stock by carl 1961
CM9/ics - Unofficial AOKP for HD2 by Xylograph, Nexus HD2 ICS by Tytung
There are lots more to choose from, these are just some of the more notable ones that ive used.

Well, I did ask (nicely) for corrections. So what part of this is wrong? I use this same procedure for every rom i flash, well plus/minus a few steps. Pretty sure this works as this has helped other people in the past. While Mskip's guide is very useful, to a beginner it can seem lil overwheling with all of the information he provides. Mine was supposed to be a quick run-thru of the steps.
So please inform me, with all that 15 yr old experience, what is not correct...

Not correct, HSPL is needed first. You only mentioned 'the OP prerequisites e.g. correct SPL version'. SPL isn't the same as HSPL, and the OP often doesn't contain info like this. Devs don't write guides on how to flash in all their ROMs, plus if this is a newbie guide you should mention this as step 1.
As well as this, Task29 is 100% useless in this case. When you unnecessarily suggest Task29s, people get into the habit of doing them every time they flash. This repeated writing of the NAND can eventually lead to bad blocks.

There have been many reports of file corruption when using this method to copy over a ROM. Also, why should the new drive be empty? This would imply you would have to delete the contents of your SD card in order to flash a ROM, which you don't.
Also, no mention of partitioning the SD card. You've listed Sense 3.x ROMs as recommended, yet you need an SD card partition to run these. A newbie would not know this of course and would probably end up creating a new thread about 'why isn't my ROM working?? '.
This guide, whilst you're obviously trying to do a good thing by helping people, would just confuse a newbie, not help them. By following it to the letter you'd probably incorrectly/unsuccessfully flash Android.
- I'm using IceCreamTosti v1.1a [AOKP B36][HWA][4.0.4][marc1706s_ics_0.1.1] by Xylograph.
anyway. all the great rom is the most viewed one i think.
but to define which ROM is the BEST is very difficult because TASTE is different hehehe.
Awww snap!, where do i start...

First off, I did say that i posted this elsewhere, soooo the OP that was referenced wasnt this threads OP or a devs OP, it posted in a different thread where the OP had a huge long guide that again had a lot of information to sort thru and mine was an attempt to streamline that process.
The spl version i spoke of was in reference to...
IMPORTANT: To install/uninstall this HSPL3 there must be any SPL version from this list on your device:
SPL 1.42.0000, SPL 1.62.0000, SPL 1.66.0000, SPL 2.07.0000, SPL 2.08.0000, SPL 2.10.0000, SPL 3.03.000 - courtesy of mskips guide
I thought a task29 would be good in this case because this OP in this thread said he had tried an sd card version or something or whatever he had done and it wasnt working very well so why not get everything off there he may have done. Also your task 29 causing bad blocks might be true, but its no different from flashing roms that write to nand or installing a bunch of apps n such. If i am not mistaken they all write to nand anyway as well, so by your logic you better be careful installing roms... might lead to bad blocks! OH NO!
If this is one of the first times you flash android to nand you probably dont have much or anything at all on your sdcard. Like i said I POSTED THIS ELSEWHERE for a quick step by step for a beginners. Ive been installing roms this way for a couple years on this device and have never had any problems with file corruption... only spoiled know it all little kids.
The CWM file i included has a 180 system layout which will work with most CM7 & CM9. I figured if it came to it and he need another version he could just edit the cfg file or find the correct one as a good number of devs will just include this in their OPs.
And yes step 3 is a little redundant because you have already (obviously) had to do this. I included it because i found that some people were just choosing the first option to install 2.08 and not 2.08hspl in the HSPL3/4 wizard. The redundancy was to make sure people are clicking the right option. I even did this once a year or so back and didnt catch my mistake right away.
And as for partitioning the sdcard for sense 3.x roms I was pretty sure that Dansta34 and Carl 1961 roms dont require this anymore as they trimmed down the roms and im pretty sure it isnt required for tmoUSA devices because of the increase in internal memory while the EU version did or does because it has half the space. Not sure on this because the last time i was running a sense3.x rom was last fall so there is a chance i was mistaken. Plus if you do need to create a ext3/4 partition im pretty sure its stated in the roms OP.
Next time you flash a rom go ahead and follow the above steps and i bet you it works.
And you started the patronizing by the way you have chosen to respond to sadmind's posts... thats that whole pot calling the kettle black thing...
So quit trolling threads and further clogging them up with your know it all nonsense... a sign of your immaturity. Instead of helping the guy with a post or two YOU clog threads up by being unhelpful and repeating the "its posted elsewhere so look for it" line. Its a quick way to get over a thousand posts thats for sure! And why waste your time posting in this thread anyway if you not gonna help. Just ignore the question and move on already. Damn kids!
