High quality A2DP audio settings - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

I don't see this subject come up much nowadays, so I presume anyone using a2dp has sorted their settings long ago. I've been happy with BitPool, MinSupportedBitPool, and MaxSupportedBitPool all set at 85 for some months now. Also, Joint Stereo (UseJointStereo) set to "off" (or "0" in the registry) - I don't think JS has any place in high quality audio and my testing confirmed it IMHO.
A couple of days ago I chanced on a post elsewhere at xda which has improved my a2dp sound to another level, just when I thought I already had it at the maximum the TD2 would do.
I can't find the post again, I've just wasted 20mins looking for it. There were some cabs which supposedly improved a2dp. Luckily I peeked inside the "best quality" cab and noted the registry settings, which are as follows:
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\BtA2dpSnd\
Key= Priority256 Value= 150 ( I had to create this key)
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev\
Key= Priority256 Value= 150 (I already had this key, set to 149)
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway\
Key= Capability Value= 150 (I already had this key, set to 101)
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings\
Key= SampleRate Value= 96000 (I had to create this key)
Key= BitPool Value= 150 (mine, as already stated, was 85)
and don't forget to set UseJointStereo to "0"
If you already have MinSupportedBitPool and MaxSupportedBitPool keys, get rid of them or stick a character like "x" in front of them so they get ignored, otherwise the new settings don't work on the TD2. Just reset for the the mods to take effect.
Sound quality is amazing now, treble is so much clearer and percussive things have more "impact", even the bass is better too.
For various reasons I don't think 96,000 samplerate is actually being used, I'm not even sure the chipset is capable of it, and I don't even think it's in the A2DP official spec! I also believe the actual bitpool is a lot less than 150. But I think these settings are allowing negotiation of the best quality possible.
If anyone has other recommended settings, please post them, I'm keeping an open mind

in my topaz (TESS Pride IV rom) there's a key MaxSupportedBitPool with value 30. Doesn't that conflict with key Bitpool=150? Do I have to change MaxSupportedBitPool too?

Sorry, I got the key names wrong, I've just corrected it
If your MaxSupportedBitPool is set at 30, it won't negotiate any higher value with your headset. So you either have to delete this key, or preferably temporarily disable it by renaming it. I usually stick "ex" in front of a reg key to disable it, so exMaxSupportedBitPool , which is easy to change back afterwards if you change your mind.

Pete_S, do you know if this changes are going to have some effect (positive or negative) on battery life?

I don't think so. Playing mp3 music already causes significant battery drain, and the difference caused by bluetooth quality settings seems insignificant compared to this.
The only time I've noticed very high quality Bluetooth settings affecting performance is when playing video of size and framerate near to the maximum capability of the TD2, the video gets jerkier than it was. The Bluetooth audio remains OK, though.

Well, I'm giving your settings a try. Thanks.

The settings are working ok. I think BT sound quality improved.

If this was the first a2dp tweak someone made to their TD2 (from the standard winmo Bitpool setting of 30) I would expect a really huge improvement, like night and day.
Going from an already tweaked setting (like my Bitpool=85 value) I still found a worthwhile improvement. As I already said, I'm not sure where the improvement comes from as the 96,000 samplerate and 150 Bitpool values are completely unrealistic.
I wish there was some way of finding out what actual samplerate and bitpool (or bitrate) parameters are being used, but I don't know of an app which does this. I know I could go through the settings methodically one by one and find out when it stops working, but I've got better things to do like listening to music

Registry update for these settings
These make an awsome differnce to the stock stiings - and also avoid any connections dropouts I've had before using 'advanced' settings..
To make things easier here is a .reg file with them set.
you'll have to remove the Max / MinSupportedBittate (if present) manually.

I'll give this a try thanks!

thanks, downloading

Occasional phone/SMS ringtone stuttering on XDA Exec

Hi everybody. I've only recently purchased my XDA Exec (£194 from eBay and in mint condition). Having upgraded the ROM to the latest official o2 AKU2 ROM (including extended ROM) it's running nicely and apart from a few minor niggles, I love it to bits.
I'm wondering if one of the minor niggles is fixable. Sometimes (regardless of how many active tasks are running) I'll get stuttering in the ringtones. This happens with WMA or WAV tones and with both incoming calls and text messages. Using default tones or imported third party tones makes no difference. Sometimes they will play fine and sometimes not. I can't pin it down to any particular cause. The only thing I have noticed is that the battery level icon sometimes flashes at the same moment that the stutter occurs, suggesting that perhaps whatever background task is updating the battery meter, may also be interrupting the sound.
Is this a known problem with the Exec and the other versions of the Universal? More importantly, is there a fix? To have stuttering ringtones in a device with such good specifications is a little unfortunate to say the least!
Your input would be greatly appreciated. I should add that the phone is running in corporate mode, although I didn't abort the installation of the extended ROM (as favoured by some).
Any thoughts?
Have u noticed this prob without memory card also (while removing it)
No, but I'm not inclined to insert and remove the card much (if ever).
Going back to my original question, is there anybody out there that does not have stuttering ringtones now and then? I'm curious to know whether this is a software or hardware issue because if it's software then hopefully it can be cured.
Thanks in advance.
If it's the same problem as mine, it's probably hardware limited. Loading/playing the ringtone while waking up the device seems to be too much for it to handle, and ringtone may stutter....
Michael
Thanks for replying bheam. I was beginning to think the same thing, but I've also had the ringtone stuttering when the device is already switched on (delivery reports for text messages for example).
Anyone out there with a different version of the Universal (other than the XDA Exec) who never has this issue?
Qtek9000 1.30.96, no such a problem, wav or mp3 ringtones playing well...even 1Mb files...but I have always more than 20Mb free ram.
Jasjar 1.90.96 ROM too doesn't have any prob
Thanks for your input guys. Well I'm assuming that hardware wise the XDA Exec is identical to the JASJAR, Qtek and various other versions. If so it must surely be a software issue? I run my Exec with the bare minimum of extra software and in fact the problem existed before I installed anything so I'm 99.9% sure it's not anything I'm running. Hmmmm, the plot thickens.....
Nevermind, just saw the last line of your first post, sometimes i wish there was a delete button on this forum.

Y dont u give it a try to upgrade it to AKU 3.2 ROM.
Sorry, I just remember that fact when I was using my old magician. I had that suttering problem on it. It was a problem of priority of audio process during a call. A freeware called GB soft tweak, which add some features for gprs connections, purpose to fix manually the priority of audio. And when fixeed at maximum, no more su-su-su-suttering on ringtones. At the beginning of the love story with my 9000, I reinstalled that freeware (wich has been updated for Universal, wizard and in general win2005) but it was useless on my pda which playes ringtones fluently. So, I desinstalled and forgot that soft... So let's have a try on it...

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm a little reluctant to use an unofficial ROM. I'm hoping it won't be long before o2 release a AKU 3.2 ROM themselves.
As for the tweaking program, I'd already looked at that but would rather change the registry entry manually (since I assume that's all the tweak prog is doing). Anyone know where the audio priority key/string resides in the Exec registry?
Regards to all.

a small tool to quickyly change backlight

in normal condition, the program has two button, high light (9) or low light(1).
especially useful for trinity. because it is very difficulty to view in sunshine.
the program can also run with command parameters -nowin, thus, you can easily
associate it with a hardware button to toggle backlight.
Sorry at my device absolutely no reaction, does not work.
Device is: MDPNA1500 - MD96700 - nearly the same as a MIO A201 with WM5
it's not working on wizard.....
It is working. In my himalaya this stuff is very useful. I have some question for author of this application. Can you make version of this program who change level of backlight to 0 when you tap the dim and level 10 when you tap the bright (now is from 1 and 9)? Good idea what i mean is a change level of backlight only for battery power. If you can make this version ill be very gratefull.
How i can change my backlight level with command parameters? Can you explain this?
Sorry for my English.
Best regards!
Great app, i agree with art12345 but you can make it customizable, so the buttons have value whatever the user like

Would you be able to change this nice program to not come up on the interface at all and just go between 1, 5, 8, and 10. Then back to 1 if hit again. So everytime you run it goes to the next brightness level?
I would like to assign it to one of the function keys so once I hit the key the program runs and increase the brightness.
Thanks,
Please - any chance of having a config file to just change the settings - I'd like to have 0 and 10

Not working with mine(Atom Life).. Good luck mate..
I was looking for an app exactly like this but couldn't find one that worked well. I remapped backlight.lnk to the left softkey on the Touch and it works well for me.

hi jessezx,
it would be great if pressing the button does NOT bring up anything visible, but juz change from "0--> 5--> 10--> 0".
I hope its not too complicated!

Tried it, like it but as suggested by HootanRoosta, having a few brightness level after each press will be most useful. The current brightness is still too high for any real world use.
Thanks.

Quake on Touch Dual

I've been trying to play quake in the dual as good as it played it in my old S110, the dual has less available ram and mhz and also a not so good video card (even with the s600 driver)...
But it works, I use the slide up/down keys as fire/jump (fire also changes to fullscreen), the green key to change weapon and the red key to change back to portrait mode (very usefull to exit, hehehe).
But its not as smooth as the S100, it may need more tweaking that I dont know how to perform, so here is my cry for help, can it be better?
This is the config I use in my autoexec.cfg
Code:
crosshair "1"
_snd_mixahead "0.15"
// Start in portrait
vid_mode "0"
viewsize "100.000000"
sizeup
togglemenu
unbind "alt"
bind "v" "+attack"
bind "JOY4" "+jump"
bind "JOY1" ""
bind "r" "impulse 10"
bind "s" "vid_mode 0"
bind "UPARROW" "+forward"
bind "DOWNARROW" "+back"
bind "LEFTARROW" "+left"
bind "RIGHTARROW" "+right"
Also, in the same subject, the Quake 3 arena also works in the touch (never got it running in the S110 before, so this was a nice surprise) but only at 2FPS... Any way this can be better too?
AHHH! Quake became REAL 3D in my touch dual!!!
:O)

I just found a version 0.70 from some guy that was optmized for the magician:
http://rapidshare.com/files/65540361/quake_v0.70.rar.html
Its slitly faster and the colors are much darker (thats problably a gamma option)
Also, these options speed things up a bit, in the autoexec.cfg:
Code:
r_maxparticles "1" //maximum onscreen explosion particles
d_mipcap "1" //sets a maximum quality for all textures, close or far (0=high, 4=low quality)
set d_mipscale "3" //maximum scaled quality of distant textures (0=high, 4=low quality)
precache "1" //loads sounds before map starts to eliminate ingame pauses
r_maxsurfs "400" //limits rendered surfaces
r_maxedges "1600" //limits max edges rendered, maxsurfs*4=maxedges
Found these here: http://www.pocketmatrix.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8871
awesome. thanks for posting this!
I get an error:
W_LoadWadfile: Couldn't load gfx.wad
Why do i get that? Would love to play it
either is on a diferent location than /storage card/quake or you wad isnt good, get the original wad.

Wow, where did yout got it????
Is there any way to increase up fps?
On "normal" quale 1 I use these on the autoexec.cfg:

d_mipcap "1" //sets a maximum quality for all textures, close or far (0=high, 4=low quality)
set d_mipscale "3" //maximum scaled quality of distant textures (0=high, 4=low quality)

Hey twolf, any suggestion on how to decrease the sensitivity while looking around with the Stylus? It's too fast for me!
P.S.:
I'm using the mentioned ROM in my signature!
I manually change it on the options menu, but I think it can be automatic by doing something as simple as to just add this on the autoexec.cfg:
Code:
sensitivity "40"
You can run it with all the buttons (sound + -/camera/red) in your rom v2?
Thats great, did you do anything extra or it just ran that way?
Ill try with the latest v2. I think I only had the realy version.
Thanks
Nop, the clean black v2 wwe non-office 2G doesnt read those butons, only v1.
Interessting! I'll make some test to fix it hopefully!
Only for you, twolf!
damm, thank you very very much... ^_^
hardware keyboard works in quake, isnt?
problably, you just need to "bind" the keys, as you can see in the .cfg example.
I just dont use it like that because its not as handy in fullscreen as with the keboard closed.

[Guide] Sound fix that works (Omina 7/Focus)

Thought you focus owners might find this useful as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342622
I made it easier for Focus owners (rather than bouncing on Omnia 7 threads/wiki).
To increase overall loudness of the phone (Focus/Omnia7):
Run Diagnosis, type *#0002*28345# to get to the "Sound Tuning" menu.
Locate "Device Gain" (lower part of the screen)
The first value identifies the output. Legend:
2 - ear speaker (call)
5 - headphones
7 - back speaker (default shown)
Standard values for a Focus AT&T/Rogers are:
2 600 -1600
5 400 -1100
7 1200 -500
(you can check by entering the device number and pressing Get).
Suggested values in the Omnia thread (to improve loudness):
2 1000 -1600
5 1200 -1200
7 0 -500
For my AT&T/Rogers focus, only 5-headphones seem to work (it's louder).
Anyone else?
On another note, Roger's speakerphone seems a tad louder that AT&T's, on the default values...
Here's an image for visual reference:

Don't forget to thank ballajalla for his post!
Good idea I wish more people used the different devices wiki's though, makes it so much easier to find useful information.
I stand corrected! (Back) Speaker is also louder, not just headphones as I originally stated. However, NOT if you play in Zune!
So: alarm sounds, notifications, calls/ringtones ARE louder, but playing a song or video in Zune is the same audio level as before! Maybe playing in Zune is on another Device gain value? (different from 2, 5 or 7)
I still don't see a difference in call loudness but that might be me
Everything sounds much better except for Zune video for me as well. Actually playing a movie trailer in an app like Flixster is terrible too. If my volume is under '12' I can't hear anything...have to turn it to max (30) to hear. I would love the values to adjust volume for video playback if there are any. Also has anyone noticed any improvement with sound auxiliary out to a car stereo? That volume seems extremely low also.
Has anybody been able to increase bass through this diagnosis app?

Got me on that one? I've used Dolby Atmos on other devices (Rooted) and it did the same thing? I think what when songs are playing, they'll register higher than half way and you kind of go off of that?
I've never really liked setting up Dolby Atmos, but once it's set up it sounds really good.

did you finally figure out how to keep it from sliding back down I am having the same exact issue.
Hi,
I have the same problem and done an extensive research about it on the web. There are 10 kinds of people: One who can set the equaliser settings like they want (even above the magical 50% mark) and those who experience the problem, that the sliders slide back to 50%. I belong to the latter ones and I'm really pissed off about that, because I bought the Phone because of its famous sound qualities and while holding the finger on the equalizer the sound IS amazing. But I'm not willing to do this every time I play music, so any ideas how to solve this issue?
Greetings,
Martin

Basically you don't have to use Atmos if you want good sound quality. Atmos is only made to be used with the speakers. It uses the secondary DAC, which is worse overall.
If you want good sound quality install Viper4ARISE.
P.S. If you don't mind a very high noise floor you can use V4A+Atmos+AK4490 patch together on a custom ROM. It's probably the best way to listen to MP3s even though the noise floor might be somewhat high.
