Unbranded HTC HD2 work on T-Mobile USA 3G Network? (please read/help) - HD2 General

hello, im currently a tmobile coustomer, isaw that the hd2 will be coming out during spring, may to be more exact. but i cant wait about 6 months, im dying to buy one, my question is if ibuy an unbraded htc hd2, will it work on tmobiles 3G network? since tmobile will be realsing it in spring?
help anybody,
thanks in advance..

No.
T-Mobile uses 1700 and 2100 UMTS. Current HD2s will only support the 2100 band, and T-Mobile -- uniquely -- requires both bands because one is bound to upstream and the other to downstream.
You'll have to wait for the T-Mobile HD2 if you want 3G.

ohh i see, guess will have to wait 6months, thank you for your help.

just to be sure, the bands are a hardware thing? or a software thing?

It's a hardware thing, I'm on T-Mobile with just EDGE speeds but works well enough for me, I don't need much on the data end.
btw, I couldn't even wait til it hit the states...

ooo, yea but for me data nd 3g or HSUPA is a big deal, so iguess im goin to have to wail till tmobile releases the us version.
just wondering at what website did you purchase yours? and how much u paid for yours, ive seen in many sites there about $690

I bought an import HD2 from the UK and use T-Mobile network in the US.Where I live (Texas) it logs in on the E network band, but recently made a trip to San Antonio and it logged in on 3G.

TMOUS w/ EDGE
Same as above... I am on TMO US with Edge and its working fine for me. I also couldn't wait till it hits US.
BTW I have the unlimited Edge plan for $5.99 ( grand-fathered plan ) so I am happy and works better for me instead of switching to thr $29.99 plan.
I use epc.tmobile.com as the APN and speeds are decent.

Maybe you're looking at a European Tmobile, because it definitely is not out in the US.

yea ithink it was in pocketnow.com where i had read that, in spring in may something like that,
and yea im really dying for one =/
and for ambler11 nd arvi007 idk if should get one imported..because 3g is a big deal as i stated before. does the gps work good? stable? youtube? file downloading?
and are you guys on stock roms? or cooked?
thank you all for replying, and helping me.

If data is a big deal for you wait, you've waited this long...
I am in the same boat, I could import now and keep ATT edge, or wait for it to hit T-mo and switch over to a contract free plan. As I use a ton of data a month I will be waiting for full 3g.
If you live in area's with wifi you can mooch off of that, sadly most of the places I am do not provide that so its 3g all the way.

ok so iwas just walking around the mall today (sawgrass mills in florida) and there is this store were they sell all kinds of phones and electronics, they have all the line of HTCs phones and iwas very suprised to see the HD2 so iwent to ask how much it was and they told me it was $1,000 i was like :O i asked them if it was the US version and they said yes, they told me it worked on all 3G networks, so iasked them to let me see it and put my SIM card in (tmobile) so itryed it out, and all i got was full EDGE they said it was my sim card, and stuff, i looked at the most and said EURO Version and showed me only the 2100 bands.
bunch of liars and rip offs. -_-

T-Mo HD 2 Unlockable?

So rumor has it to come out on march 24.I'm trying extremely hard to get on but I'm on AT&T.Do anyone think t-mo while pass out the unlock code?Because i heard they used to but that was a while ago. Thanks guys in advance.
if ur on att, why not just get the australian version. that would be better for you since you could get 3g on 850
bc of prolly the big price difference.
Flagship phones have always been $650+ out of contract. I would expect the HD2 to be competing with the Nexus One so a subsidized price of around $300. However, where the Nexus One sells for $530 OOC, I really can't see the HD2 selling at that price - I think Google is working some magic there.
So lets say it retails OOC at $650. Add $50 for lousy taxes. You'll save about $100 which is a fair bit, I won't deny, but at the expense of 3g connectivity which is a big deal on a phone this capable.
As a reference: A Telstra HD2 from PD will run you about $830 with expedited shipping. If you're patient, which you must be if you don't mind waiting until late Mar., maybe $800?
Oh and in regards to your question, AFAIK, TMobile is pretty lax with unlock codes.
so the 3g thing keep poppin up t-mo and att dont have the same 3g?

No, Tmobile USA runs 1700/2100. Their phones are usually triband 3G so they are typically compatible with European 3G, if you travel that way.
ATT 3g is 850/1900, and supposedly they are phasing out 1900 by the end of the year.
ohh i have the imagio right now on vzw and im trading it for a tp2 on vzw so ill have 3g no matter what.Mane that kinda makes me think twice about gettin tha fone.
The phone is seriously awesome, envy from iPhone users when they realize all they have is some light saber applications and I am T-Pain It's worth it IMO, but your call. Good luck.
so if i do get it on t-mo what would coverage would i have?

i live in chicago, the tmobile coverage is far better than at&t (guess what at&t? i have signals in door with tmobile!)
Satisfied
The 50 million dollar question is, will you be satisfied with this awesome phone when it cannot do 3g for ATT?
That's what I'm wondering.
$200-300 more for Telstra
or
no 3g (but you still have data) with the regular HD2
I'm debating this furiously.
same boat
im in the same boat, but im thinking the bigger rom is gunna make me not worry so much about 3g.i rarely use net on my phone for anything but email anyway, so 3g speeds aren't super necessary but the bigger rom, more ram, bigger included sd card, and cheaper price make me want to wait till march 24th

Well looks like i'll get it.
I don't use internet much.
3g decreases the battery life anyways.
I don't care for WM7. (too much)
I have vital apps I want to install on WM 6.5.
For $449 at a tmobile store it's a steal.
(BTW Telstra for $723 on ebay)
Can't wait to get my paws on that phone.

Will T-Mobile US HD2 work on ATT 3G?

Hi,
i dont want to use t-Mobile but not sure if HD2 can be used in ATT 3G. Is this possible?
Thanks.
No

No.
EDGE for AT&T.
No.
You'll need to buy one from Australia.
Look at at&t's 3G bands, and T-Mobile US 3G bands. Then you will understand why. . .
It may have both chips inside. We need dig it to find out.
Damn it Tito, you broke the trend!
my father is a businessman and he has a extra line open on his t-mobile family plan account that no one uses... it doesn't even have a phone ... he keeps it open just in case one of his clients need to use a phone number when they are on business ventures together.. either way.. i'm ATT and personally i love it.. i think ATT is one of the best phone service providers as far as reception and network speeds... customer service is another issue lol... but either way... as a student i'm spending way too much money on my phone bill.. $130 every month for ATT (I pay for it) My father actually wants me to go over to t-mobile and take that free line that he has open...
now my sister who lives in my apartment with me.. she has t-mobile and the reception at home totally sucks... its about 1-3 bars and the call quality isn't even that great... but if i decide to take that line.. that means i no longer have to pay for my phone bill.. which totally rocks... but i can't get over the fact that i'm gonna lose the ability of having full bars everywhere i went... the only reason why i actually decided to go through with it... is the HD2... if the HD2 was exclusively for ATT or something.. i would've just stuck with my 130 monthly bill... the fact that its exclusively for t-mobile makes my decision not as horrible...
yea.. pointless story... but i felt like sharing.. sorry for hijacking thread...

It doesn't. Supported frequencies on the US HD2 are 1700/2100, Euro & Asia spec one is 900/2100, the Telstra one is 850/2100 so that supports ATT 3G, and your only option.
You gotta pay to play.

oh, sorry, lol im talking in general At&t's network
but once i went into roaming, and i had 3G lol
If AT&T removed EDGE off their network that would leave GSM, 3G, and HSPA+... Or isn't EDGE and upgraded GSM... So it would leave just 3G and HSPA+
they cant get rid off EDGE or GSM,
1) GSM is their network removing it would leave the option of CDMA
2) EDGE will be there as long as there is 3G available.
That's right, edge is just faster gprs. Both are part of the GSM type network.
You are probably just getting spotty service during the upgrade. Once they are done in your area you should be back to normal.

My question about the whole AT&T/T-Mobile deal is, I'm using a couple of T-Mobile HD2s unlocked on AT&T . When/If the deal goes through, will AT&T know I'm using T-Mobile HD2s and upgrade my data plan from the cheap medianet plan to the smartphone plan? My bill is going to skyrocket!

T-Mobile is still going to operate as a separate entity for a long while. So I don't think you need worry - I think the TMO HD2s will continue to work on EDGE with the AT&T network. The question is if they will share towers (meaning that your phone would have G3), but even then you would have to register your APN for the T-Mobile network, which won't work with an AT&T SIM Card.

sgs2 working on U.S. tmobile 3g

I have a friend that is reporting his new sgs2 is working on H with tmobile in the states and getting constant 7mbs down.
How can that be right? Is it possible tmobile is testing out the att merge and they are letting users on att towers?
Whoa, that's weird... I'm actually getting my SG2 from UPS today and I'll test it out with my T-Mobile sim card that's currently in my Nexus S. If I can get HSPA with my T-Mobile sim, that would be pretty cool!
There's no SGS2 with T-Mobile U.S.' AWS bands. It's hardware that's incompatible, not software. He's probably talking about the Galaxy S 4G.

Wow.
SGS2 on T-Mobile US - 250K sounds about right for EDGE.
Sensation on T-Mobile US - 1MB is ridiculously low so something's wrong.
SHW-M250L on Verizon - You can roam with an account from another CDMA carrier but, unless something's changed, Verizon is a closed network meaning you can't bring your own equipment.
Good luck.

T-Mobioe vs Developer HTC One?

Hello,
I promise this is the last time I ask this question.
T-Mobile version or Developer unlocked version? Price and space is not an issue for me.
I also live in New York City so I am in a reframed 1900MHz area.
Thanks,
Crazysah
You could always get sim unlocked 32gb for 579 but if you are tmo definitely get unlocked or dev.

T-Mobile since it has the AWS bands... You might be in a refarmed area but it's nice to have the aws when you go into an area with out the 1900 refarm.

I'm still not convinced either way. I don't travel much within the USA, so I don't think I'll be much in places without 1900MHz since I live in New York City.
So if I'm almost always in a 1900MHz reframed area, then I'll be just fine getting the developer edition right? The whole of New York is covered by the new 1900MHz right?
The city Queens and Long Island have been refarmed from where I've been. 1700mHz won't matter after LTE it's rolled out.

If space is not an issue for you, I would recommend T-mobile. I had Droid DNA (frequency the same as new one dev edition, except for LTE) on T-mobile in Tampa, which is a reframed 1900mhz area, and it didn't work very well. Having 1900mhz only makes you lose HSPA+ easily in a building. I chose dev. edition because I want 64GB and unlocked bootloader without losing warranty. Otherwise, I would choose T-mobile.

Once fully paid for you can request a sim unlock code from Tmobile. I've heard that they might make you wait 40 days from purchase before giving out the code.
To unlock the bootloader you can go to htcdev.com

Yeah, I guess.
Was it really that bad? I guess T-Mobile version it is.
Can the T-Mobile phone be legally unlocked if you buy it full price?

If you mean SIM unlocked, I believe you have to wait 40 days. You can unlock the bootloader any time.

They both the same phone, its up you. if you travel a lot (Outside the country) then get the unlocked version.. or if you plan on switching carriers later on get the unlocked version.. regardless you'll be able to unlock the T-Mobile version also but deal with any bloatware they add and you'll have to wait for your carrier to approve updates
unlocked version roms can be flashed on the ATT/T-Mobile version .. plus the bootloader is unlocked on both..
If money isn't a issue then why are you even asking this question? just buy the unbranded version which supports LTE on both networks (if im correct) Just know T-Mobile won't replace it and you'll have to go thru HTC and their warranty agreements.. (if the unlocked bootloader even comes with warranty)
Its like you are asking "i got a billion dollars.. should i buy a Ferrari or buy a Bugatti ?"

It was so bad that my friend switched to Straight Talk... (I only visited Tampa for one month but my friend lives there) The only difference is that when New York has Tmobile LTE, new One dev. edition will work under LTE. But before LTE comes, it would probably be similar to what my friend experienced in Tampa.

So assuming NYC gets LTE by the summer (I'll be gone to India anyway for the summer), I'll be fine getting by with one month of 2G. The Dev version has more bands right so supports it works better in most countries?

Yes, if outside of USA, I believe you'll have higher chance of getting a compatible frequency with Dev. Edition. I actually chose dev. edition over T-mobile because I am moving to a place where T-mobile has LTE. But my experience reminds me that I should test the speed before I switch from Straight Talk to T-mobile.

I guess I'll order the dev version then and if I run into many problems, I'll sell it when I get back to the USA in August.
Thanks a lot!
1700 > 1900

I'm still not convinced either way. I don't travel much within the USA, so I don't think I'll be much in places without 1900MHz since I live in New York City.
So if I'm almost always in a 1900MHz reframed area, then I'll be just fine getting the developer edition right? The whole of New York is covered by the new 1900MHz right?

I use the T-Mobile version in NYC, and it has better reception where I live as it accesses 1700 AWS HSPA+42, and I get better in building reception with that compared to 1900 (or the kick out to EDGE - ugh!), and voice calls are also better for some reason (not to mention Wifi calling - which I LOST when I flashed AR6 - if someone knows when the T-Mobile ROM will be out, let us know, can't wait to switch back and have that back).
The T-mobile version, even flashed with another rom, doesn't allow Hotspot natively without kicking u to sign up for a hotspot plan, whereas the AT&T version allows hotspot functionality without a headache once you flash another rom and replace the stock AT&T rom.

I don't care about hotspot. So literally, the only thing I lose by going dev is the Wi-Fi calling?
Where in New York exactly do you live?
