Auto data disconnection - HD2 General

Did anyone found solution?
Solution for everything of course, including weather and other sense updates...

Yes we did, WMLonglife from XDA or Bandswitch from http://www.commmgrpro.com/jsp/main_frame.jsf;jsessionid=95FDBC4C9BD6C38D215057E12C736A1C which is what I use, disconnects 3G after 30sec or any userdefinable time period.

I am using WMLonglife for some time and I can say that in the most cases it works and definitelly increasing my battery lifetime! I have tried to setup Bandswitch but becase its is less user friendly I have dropped that idea

You only have to tick "Disconect idle connections" and input a time ie:30sec!!! lol

GPRS_bye_if_device_off?
Hello!
I have been using the 'GPRS_bye_if_device_off' value in the 'SuspendResume' entry at WM6.5 registry with 60 seconds as timeout in 'CacheTime' entry (I hope all of you know what I'm refering to ).
Had been working fine a few days but suddenly one day, when I was trying to see if I had received some sms, I noticed that my HD2 has ran out of battery! (with 60% some minutes ago!)
I began to look for some information about other people using this GPRS_bye_if_device_off "trick" and I readed that it only works if you DOESN'T HAVE any other sense process programmed to access automatically to Internet (for instance, the sense weather auto update), is this true? I mean... my HD2 will continue draining my battery if I have auto weather updates no matter if I use 'GPRS_bye_if_device_off'?
If it is true, I suppose can only use WMLonglife, but this application it doesn't works always (not in my case), because sometimes although I have it configured to kill idle connections, I don't know why the connection keeps alive indefinitely, so I have to be alert, taking a look to my HD2 connection frequently
It's Bandswitch better? Which do you recommend?
Thanks a lot to everyone!

GPRS/Connection stays on and kills my batt. life :(

I have an unlocked Cingular 8525 on TMOBILE. I have TZONES plan. I have it set to check my gmail/hotmail every 60minutes....also have NewsBreak to check RSS feeds 2 times a day.
The problem is that my connection stays on once it is started on its own. Since phone is in my pocket i cant tell till i take it out and then i have to manually close the connection.
So is there a setting or .cab or app to close innactive connection? Anything that wont affect me while im browsing or chatting MSN.
I tried search but could not find the answer, also i suck at searching...sorry.
Thanks in advance!
adam we need a bit more info.
Please could you add the info about your device (ROM, Radio version etc...) into your sig, and also fill out your country and carrier in your profile.
An updated radio stack might fix this.
Having a cab that would turn off inactive connections would be very useful. Hope somebody finds the answer, same thing occurs with my device, I have to manually turn off after finished using. It is possible that the connection will terminate on my device when inactive, I have never trusted it to happen. If it is possible with my current radio is there a way to set the amount of time till disconnect. Maybe you know the answer Mrvanx.
With Comm Mgr Pro you can set to close idle connections for a X quantity of senconds..... (this is, connections that havent data traffic during x seconds)
How can i check my ROM and Radio version? Ive only had my phone for 2 weeks.
The apps connect on their own thru my TZONES GPRS data plan. When they are done getting new mails/rss feeds the connections remains open untill i manualy close it....this eats up my battery.
Where can i get Comm Mgr Pro? HOw much?

Thanks for the info, I haven't put that on my device as of yet, just waiting to see some additional feedback. I just looked at the post and it seems that there is plenty to read there now, I will read over the course of the day and likely install. Will let you know if I find any issues.

My connection is on 24/7 (alot of the time in UMTS mode) and i havent had to charge it up yet since upgrading to the new radio.
GPRS might be attached but its not ALWAYS transferring.

If you wait for about 10 mins im updating my "radio upgrade guide".
The radio stack just controls the phone and GPRS stuff, wifi and BT are part of the OS.
BTW the latest version (1.40.30.00) works great, no complaints of battery drain, shogunmark has had his device on for over a day and is around 50% on battery life.
While you are waiting you might want to safeguard your device against a potential Brick (knackered device) by Flashing HardSPL to your device
If connection is staying on like mine did, it's worth checking data transfer icon is still active on Comm Manager

i don't think having GPRS/EDGE connected all the time would result in such a severe battery drain(-60%) if no data is actually being transferred, meaning if no internet applications are running in the background.
hi,
i too thought that, but try to believe, now i charge herald once 2 days and over, before i was charging once at day ....

lol well... i'm sure there is a battery drain, but not as severely as 60%! if you don't believe me, charge your phone to 100%, then connect to GPRS/EDGE, turn phone off and leave on your desk for a few hours... the battery will probably still show 95% or 98%

it goes to sleep if it is idle for 1 second. ie if no application calls it for 1 second. i changed mine to 2 seconds. because i think most applications (even microsoft's intermediate GPS driver) updates or calls GPS hardware every 1 second, so i dodn't want the darn thing to go sleep on me

using registry editor of your choice:
HKLM->system->currentcontrolset->GPSIntermediate Driver->Drivers-> "SleepOnNoData" (in milliseconds)
GPS Intermediate Driver is the Microsoft's GPS (the bridge between the application and the hardware GPS).
you can also play around with gps input/output buffer.
and gps polling interval, by going one level deeper to GPSOneDevice.
I wrote up a nice summary on another site on GPS and GPS application lag, but can't find it anymore, and don't want to write another essay again

Data Connection keeps turning itself on?

I turn my data connection off through the phone settings but it seems to keep turning itself back on? Has anyone experienced this and/or knows how to sort it out?
Cheers guys
Yes there are many threads about this, check you have no auto connections enabled, like weather, facebook, mail ect, but to be honest, if the data connection is idle, it uses no more power than if it were off, i let mine run all day and i only loose 10% battery, and thats checking email every 2 hours and weather updating every 3.
Leo really is an always on device.
There are reg tweeks and cabs, and progs to help, but i found them all pretty buggy and useless, just leave it on and dont worry.
Now if you can stop the damn wireless disconnecting on sleep im a happy man .
I'll take that advice my good man ;p
Nice one bruvver ;p

You don't want that.. trust me. It brings a whole new meaning to 'battery hog'!
you can also configure another data connection with fake data to prevent it from connecting.
Werid that cus my nokia 5800 stays connected to wireless for 3 days on one charge?
It is strange, but data connection almost constantly on didn't affect my HD2's battery life too badly..in fact it made almost no difference.
maybe because battery life wasn't very good in the first place
Well it should not unless its being used, good advice is drop to GSM only if you dont neet a fast connection, i have my device on GSM always, and use Morits com manager to switch to 3G+ if i need the speed, i have done this with all my phones.
3G is a bit of a power monster, and rather pointless drain unless your using it.
I,m using Nodata program to disable data connections. The draw back is you have to enable them back if you want to use internet. The program is definetly good for roaming if you want to be on a safe side.
http://htcdriver.com/index.php?page=nodata
Hey thats a handy app thanks
nodata switched my data connection back on while abroad. I just hope not to get a horrific bill now!!!

3G network

First, as you can assume, i have the HTC Hero...since i was not satisfied with the 1.5 version ( android ) i updated it to 2.1 ( Eclair version )..now the problem is that when i add the APN settings, it starts the 3G network and i don't have any option to "close" it...on the 1.5 version i had a the Wifi, Bluetooth and i think Data connection, but now only the Wifi, Bluetooth... so in a summary, i can open and close the wifi and bluetooth but i can't regulate the 3G network, when i set it, it starts and there is no way to turn it off...
So does anyone has an idea how to solve this?
Thanks in advance
How about when you hold the power button, do you get the "Mobile Network" option to select there?

No, just the silent option, airplane, reboot or turn off...
The irony is that when i turn Wifi on, the 3G also turns on...but when i close the wifi the 3G still works...

Im using MCR3.2. (Link in my signature). Fast and stable,... No issues whatsoever. But it is still only an Android 1.5 ROM. I'm planning on adding the 768mhz overclock kernal to it tonight, hopefully will fly like a Legend then.
Ooops,... Sorry
You not the only one with this puzzling problem wkulen! Same rom as you, and it seems I can't close 3g even with that APNdroid is set to be off! It looks like it still using data from 3g - hope not otherwise it could be a costly mistake!
i've got the opposite problem...
ROM: current official...
My 3g or data internet connection sometimes doesn't turn on when I switch off the wifi. But it happens most of the time, but not all the time. What I normally do everytime is to go to Settings/Wireless controls/Mobile network settings/Network operators - and I "select automatically". Then my network data kicks back in. It's a hassle but I don't know what else to do.
