Is there a Tweek for this??? - HD2 General

Hi,
Couple of things....
[Rant]
It's Bill's fault!
Active sync deletes calender entries from PC if they've been deleted from the phone, despite been set to update phone from pc if dispute????
Mobile Office is incompatible with standard office!
I bought a WM device so I could use documents from either on either!
A customer sends a price list in xlsx format and the phone doesn't recognise it!
Simple things two windows machines should be able to do and they can't get it together!
Bill's name remains mud! [/Rant]
I don't suppose anyone ones of ways to sort this out without reformatting files?
Cheers,
Gavin

Office Mobile Beta 2010
Did you try using Office Mobile 2010 Beta.. Its available in Microsoft Market for free..

see the problem there is that you deleting something from the phone doesn't cause a dispute because the log will show that it was specifically deleted.
disputes are more along the line of editing the pc version and then editing the mobile version differently.in such a case active sync would overwrite the mobile version. not how you WANT it too work, but not technically a fault.
as for the file types....I have office 2004 and that doesn't support xlsx... unfortunately that doesn't count as a fault so I don't get a free upgrade.
Tweek - Get your client to send in normal, standard xls format that a half dozen different programs can understand.

Hi,
I guess it's true what you're saying, but the latest Mobile office shouldn't have a problem with Office 2007 files.
There's a free update patch for the older versions of office from MS, I did my laptop last week
Pity there's not one for Mobile Office!
Cheers,
Gavin

Mobile Office can handle Office 2007 files without problem. However, not all features are supported. It is documented on the MS site. Yes, you need to be careful when you carry a document over different platforms.

Microsoft Money 2004 not working on my XDA Mini S

I use Microsoft Money 2004 on my desktop and have no problems syncing it with any of my PDA's including my QTEKS100 running PPC Money 2004.
However when I install it on my Wizard it will not sync up with my desktop files. Active sync just goes into a loop trying to update the database ?
It only does this with the XDA Mini as all my other devices do sync fine if I choose to set them as the only device to sync with.
Is this a PPC Windows 5 compatibility problem ? I am getting really frustrated with this as I desperately need Money on my XDA
Money PPC and WM5
Unfortunately, this is a WM5 issue. Money PPC installs, but will not synchronise. The behaviour you see is what thousands of others have seen. There are a number of posts on this in this site, and also on the M$ web site.
There is no outlook on when, or even if, M$ intend to fix the issue. I have resorted to a program called Cash Organiser. It is not as simple as Money PPC but it works. SPB also make a similar package to synchronise with your desktop Money program.
Thanks for the reply, it helps explain a lot.
However, I did get it to work once on my device. Though I had to hard reset the machine again and it has never been able to do it again.
Very disappointed

Can WM6 read new Excel 2007 Format

I have Office 2007 and have *.xlsx files I want to sync with the pocket PC but the Pocket PC can't seem to see them, they are on the Pocket PC but are not in the Excel "All Folders" List. If I try to open the file from explorer on the pocket PC it says "There is no application associated with the File. Run the application first, then open this file from with in the application" But the Excel application in WM6 won't open it. Why would Microsoft release office 2007 and WM6 at the same time and make them incompatable?????
If this is true it is the most stupidest thing I have found so far, please someone tell me I am doing something wrong!!!
Its true. WM6 will not read Excel 2007 format. Well, most of you business partners neither. So you will end up saving all your documents in a friendly 2003 compatible format
...or switch to open office... (NeoOffice on a Mac...)
How are you uploading them too the phone? Are you copying them to a storage card or going through Active Sync?
I can't test it myself, but it's possible that active sync might solve your problem because it does some sort of file conversion when you sync files doesn't it? Perhaps the latest version, or the one in Vista will sort this?
Or maybe MS have just not realised the problem yet, woudln't surprise me!
They are through Windows Mobile Device Centre on Vista. The files are in the sync list.
This is so unbelievable that it is stupidity, it just does make sence, maybe microsft will release a patch to fix there F#*k up.
Well, I read about it: AFAIK there is no 2007-to-2003 conversion within ActiveSync. So you just save the files as 2003 files from Excel 2007.

Outlook SMS Sync Software?

Any available?
I bought Jeyo a long time back but it does not seem to work with my Topaz - only detects the last 3 msgs and as soon as you want Sent Items downloaded...Outlook crashes.
Jeyo are not sure if they are still in business it seems so you just get fobbed off by them.
Then there's PocketExport. Installed the trial version, detects device but no SMS logs etc.
Thanks!
OK so the Jeyo Companion DOES see the msgs...it's just outlook that does not.
I'm going to put it down to potentially 64bit, Office 2007 SP2, Windows 7, Touch Diamond 2 or all 4
Previous successful attempt was with a HTC Diamond 1, Office 2007 SP1, 32bit, and Windows Vista
Hello!
I use this, is verry good Mobile Archiving - sms and call detail archiving.
MobileArchiver integrates the most widely-used communication methods - SMS messaging, email, and calls - into Outlook, one of the most widely used applications. MobileArchiver keeps a history of your SMS messages and call details in Outlook so you always know who contacted you and when.
Downloading now!
Thanks for that - I actually got the PocketExport working with help from their support guys - it turns out that even though I am connected via cable, you need to set PE to Bluetooth and reboot the machine.
It synced up fine soon after the reboot though it then crashed Outlook until I removed the hone.
The other downside is the "From" field is blank unlike Jeyo which had it populated
From the screenshots of your suggestion, it looks to be populated. Wish me luck!
I use True connect from rasberry software, paid for it about 4 years ago and never looked back. I use it every day, however sometimes it does crash outlook 2007, but I just restart the program and it comes back. Also allows you to control your phone using pc keyboard & mouse.
Now that WinMo 6.5 is out i am having issues with TrueConnect. SMS msg remains in outbox folder, and according to support it has something to do with threaded sms
Any of u bright minds have a solution ?
/Smirge
I've now gone over to the dark side and got myself an iPhone
Just got fedup of the inherent issues with the diamond2 - most of which I managed to live with but the aftersales just did it for me!
However, I was running 6.5 until the bitter end and bought [email protected]'s suggstion of MobileArchiving
It was by far one of the best solutions I have seen for SMS and Outlook - something I forgot to say thanks to for the suggestion so apologies for that!
Might be worth trying it out (i think they give you a 15-30 day trial on their site)
Had no issues with 6.5 and that was during the beta stage!
Thanks Akash_84.
I've got an Iphone... wonderfull!!
Do you know a way to export sms from a Diamond to an Iphone??
Thanks in advanced!

A serious replacement to Active Sync alias Windows Mobile Device Cente

I am really fed up with ActiveSync / Windows Mobile Device Center!
I just can't stand it anymore.
Are there serious and good replacement for it? For WM 6.5.5 and Win7 x64?
Since 2007 I am experiencing these 3 major issues, with any subsequent versions of ActiveSync (which is now called Windows Mobile Device Center, on my Win7 Ultimate x64 system)
1st issue:
After a restore on one of my 3 WM devices (two HD2 and one HD1 blackstone), I had to full resync each time: sometimes it takes 30 min, sometimes 5-6 hours: I ALWAYS AND ONLY include contacts, task and calendar, with default sync settings (no emails)
2nd issue
Apparently, without warning, any 3-5 days a message appears saying:
A change to the server requires full re-sync.
I do and sometimes all is fine, sometimes ALL MY CONTACT ARE REPLICATED on both my PC and my devices...as for today I got 6,000 contacts! (they should be around 1,500)...And I am forced to go through my contacts and remove manually all the duplicates.
3rd issue: sync is completed BUT CHANGES are NOT reflected on DEVICES!
Suppose I change contact/notes on one of my 3 devices and then sync. My laptop might or may not take in the change. But invariably I get the message Device connected, Sync completed!
Viceversa: I change the email field of a contact on my laptop: the changes are reflected on device 1 but NOT on device 2 and yes on device 3! Very random behavior...
Yesterday I have edited the notes (it is a field) of a contacts on my 2nd device. On PC and on my 1st device the changes were synced. On the last device NOT....sync was completed all 3 times, WITHOUT ERRORS but changes are not there!
This is irritating.
Please help and suggest a substitute to ActiveSync alias WMDC for WM 6.5.5
Is there any tool, even if it an expensive one, to replace it?
I'm not talking about IntelliSync, PocketMirror, etc which are
not replacing, just extending its functionalities...
I don't want any more trace of activesync on my laptop, I wish to have
a professional product installed.
Thank you
Saulo
I read on interenet about SyncML and another solution called DevilsPGD.
Any feedback about it? Is there a off-line version? I dislile the idea of having my data on a web server.
Thank you
Saulo
I forgot to mention that my main goas are to sync PIM data (Outlook data) e.g.:
- Contacts
- tasks
- calendar
Thanks
Saulo
Through the years it has always baffled me how so many people have had issues with AS and MDC. I can honestly say that I have had, maybe 5 ot 6 errors with it, and all were solved with a simple reboot of both devices. After that it would go for like a year or two without an issue.
I have been using WM devices since the dell axim was introduced (changing both computers and PDA/Smartphones as time progressed) and have always read of people having massive issues with it. I also consider myself a pretty heavy user of AS/MDC: PIM syncing, Office doc syncing, Note syncing, music and photo syncing (yes with windows media player), Pocket Quicken syncing, Mysportstraining and mypersonaldiet syncing, ewallet syncing, Quickbook syncing, Mylifeorganized syncing, Checklist syncing, and a customized program I had built that syncs my loan files with an industry software I use called Point.
With all of this crap being transferred to and from my various computers and my PDA/Smartphones I would have thought, based on reading other peoples' issues, I would have experienced more problems. But as I said, it has pretty much always been a painless experience. Even the issues I had were minor (one record wouldnt sync, or one conduit would not sync, but everything else did) and as I said, rebooting both devices fixed it everytime.
What is everyone else doing differently?
I use Jeyo Mobile Companion, and I am really happy with this program. Works well on Windows 7 with a lot of features.

Dear Cirrob
I also use pocket PCs since 1998. 12 years. and always been with Active Sync.
But now I cannot accept that a sync is completed, no errors and in fact the new updated phone or cell phone is not there, on my device!
Also I edit some NOTES (notes field, within a contact) and these changes are not reflected on my PC.
I get no error messages! I have checked that the right couple (WindowPC - Device) are selected... a new contact is corrected sync, a old one, if edit, I have 70% chance is correctly synced and 30% chances it remain unchanged, either on PC or on Device...
Sure enough, if I make a hard reset, these issues are solved, the sync is perfect...But I do no want to make an hard reset every month.
Thanks
Saulo
Hallo
Does Jeyo Mobile Companion rely on Active Sync (like Intellsync or Pocket Mirror)?
Or is it a real replacement?
Thanks
Saulo
Forget Activsync
I have used PDAs heavily in my business. Before wm phones I had to carry two devices. I have also used a blackberry which has an excellent interface with any computer, it is faster and more accurate, It is realy a shame that MS stuff always seems so counter-intuitive. In my opinion the best solution is to not use activesync at all. You can do that if you have an exchange account, then you can sync all PIM over wireless, with 3G it is effortless. One caveat is that you cannot sync notes unless you activsync with outlook configured to exchange.
By the way "TrineFix" is a utility I downloaded somewhere here, when installed on your phone it will remove duplicates from your contacts, it works extremely well, and you don't have to edit duplicates by hand.
hallo researchm
Can you please expand on exchange server? Is it possible to subscribe to it for a private person like me? I mean is exchange available for personal usage?
Do you khow to start an exchange account?
Is this process something similar to syncing to a website and then connect my HD2 to the web to complete the sync?
Thank you and waiting.

It requires ActiveSync 3.7 or above
SyncML (and a provider, which supports it!). Supports WiFi!
How about microsoft my phone its syncs everything apart from email. There is one thing it can be slow sometimes to download, but uploading is fine. I was reading that they are working on fixing the download speed.
I use MyPhone. It's good, it has also a duplicate item eraser, but it does not sync with PC, as far as I know.

When I did a search for SyncML, it brought me to the Funambol site.
Looks like they have "cloud" sync options as well. Interesting.
Have you guys tried it?
I too have had problems with WMDC and Activesync. I have found a solution that works for me so I don't get the error messages:
1. Delete ALL items you want to sync from your mobile.
2. Delete ALL partnerships from your mobile.
3. Sync with XP PC (which in my case has all of the correct appointments and contacts which is all I want to sync).
4. Delete ALL partnerships from your Vista PC.
5. Delete ALL items you want to sync from Vista PC.
5. Sync mobile with Vista PC - make sure the device name the Vista PC suggests is the same as the XP PC.
Then hopefully you can sync either PC without any activesync errors. I have over 2000 appointments and over 400 contacts, so there is quite a bit of info. Each sync in 3 and 5 takes about 30 minutes. Each second sync only takes 30 seconds.

Yes, working fine (using it via my provider, which offers a special version of syncml).
I've owned Asus MyPal A639, HTC Touch HD and now - Leo. Never had any of these problems that you mention except that ActiveSync really drives me mad for one particular thing - its virus-like auto-start behavior on both desktop and PPC. Its like sync , sync, sync... a-a-and.... sync, sync, sync. Even disabled it rewrites its entries in the registry every time you start it. Its a pest! On the other side it does what it does - sync(!) and you can use many 3-rd party programs on top of it. I use Jeyo Mobile Companion and MobilEdit! but they rely on ActiveSync. Unfortunately there's no real alternative to ActiveSync and its derivatives (WMDC).

Why? There is software out there for your phone that will delete duplicate contacts from your device. Then all you need to do is resync back with outlook.

[Q] Outlook synchronization on Streak with Froyo

Hi, I bought my streak yesterday. It came pre-loaded with Android 1.6, which immediately upon switching on the device, got updated to Android 2.2.
My concern is that I am NOT ABLE TO SYNCHRONIZE my MICROSOFT OUTLOOK 2010 data like CONTACTS, TASKS, CALENDAR and MAILs to my STREAK.
Its my first android device. And for last 5 years I have been using (handheld devices/PDA's) with WINDOWS MOBILE OS with latest being HD2, and all these years, I have been very very comfortably using Activesync, to synchronize all this.
I must also mention that I have tried to do a lot of search on XDA and google, with suggestions like using third party applications, but none of them are practically working.
I am a business user and my work necessitates me to have all this outlook data (including mails) to be with me (on my handheld device) always. In fact I was delighted to read claims on XDA "There is NOTHING that an android device can not do which a winmo device can do...". But then ,this is what is the LEAST that I want to my STREAK to perform... or else I might have to return this and buy HD7!!!
Any suggestions???
VCOrganizer does it all, it sync also outlook notes and is compatible with office 2010 .

While that is the theory, I have had problems with VCOrganizer duplicating my Contacts and corrupting my Outlook data. I don't believe that I am alone in this - look at the comments for this application in the App Market.
The best resource for understanding what applications are available to synchronise between Outlook and Android phones is http://syncdroid.net/ which has a very good chart comparing the features of each.
mhh. i had no probs.

Could not get VCorganizer to try and am not ready pay unless I am sure it will really work.
I did try CompanionLink-Dejaoffice and it is disappointing. While CompanionLink is PC based application it needs Dejaoffice simultaneously, which is the device based application. And, well... it does SYNC (only contacts/calendars/tasks and not mails!!! the great disappointment is in teh fact that the contacts which are actually synced are not part of the default contact manager, and hence one can not USE it practically thorugh the dialpad for making calls, and even that incoming calls (of any saved contact) does not get recognized!!!
I am ready to pay any good amount provided I get something as useful as Activesync of Windows mobiles!!!

Touchdown is an exchange server client. I mean I am not sure if it will really do the needful as Activesync (desktop Activesync- for Winodws mobiles). i did google to read more about it, but as I read, it is not going to the job... that is SYNCING CONTACTS (in the default contacts managers of froyo), SYNCING MAILS and TASKS/CALENDARS!!!
Bennysangel, can you please guide me on this Touchdown with your experience on it. Thanks again.
anyway u cant sync emails even with VCOrganizer. for email sync u need some exchange client/server.
the first time u sync contacs with VCO it duplicates (its also stated on them FAQs) but after 2nd sync everything goes ok.
before VCO I tried anything else but this was the only app syncing also outlook notes and working with the 64bit office 2010

I think that we are both looking for something that doesn't exist. It is not in Google's interest to make it easy for users to sync an Android phone with a Microsoft product. Google's model is based on people storing their data on their servers (where they can commercially exploit that data), and not locally on their PCs in a format which is proprietary to one of their main competitors (Microsoft).
Don't forget that ActiveSync was a Microsoft product which synchronised between two other Microsoft products (Outlook and WinMo). Perhaps you should consider a WinMo7 phone (and if there was one with a screen as big as the Streak, that's what I would probably buy)?
My personal experience is that many of the solutions which sound as if they will do the job do not live up to their advertising. I have tried a number of them now, and have had all sorts of problems (duplicated entries, corrupt data, removal of Category/Priority/Note information, incorrect date/time, etc).
As I have mentioned before, there is an extremely comprehensive list of the synchronisation solutions which are available at the Syncdroid web site. and if you do find any which are not listed there, please let the web master know, as he will add them.

Thanks Philip, you are very precisely hitting the nail in the head!!!
The only reason I got attracted to buy this STREAK is due to its huge screen size- which genuinely gives the pleasure of a mobile phone cum tablet!!! I agree with you that I should prefer to buy a Windows Phone device however there is unfortunately NO other device with 5 inch screen, the nearest being HTC HD7. I am seriously considering giving up this Streak and buy HD7 now.
And for that matter, it would be a welcome if there could be some chef who could cook a WINDOWS MOBILE ROM (be it 6.5.x also if not windows phoen 7 OS ROM!!!) that I can flash on STREAK

Now I'm confused.
Are you referring to the Nero software that Dell are using with FroYo, rather than the discontinued Dell PC Suite? If so, I understood that it only syncs Contacts from Microsoft Outlook (not least because Dell have removed the Task and Notes applications from 2.2 that they had provided with 2.1).
When you say "all the rest", do you mean that it syncs Calendar, Tasks and Notes from Outlook? If so, what applications does it use on the phone to access Tasks and Notes?
