Anyone want to make an app that'll help out a guy out? - Android Software Development

Had magicall on my WindowsMobile phone, which was retired recently.
I had it setup to add a "*67" to any telephone number I called that was not in my contacts list. Additionally, I had a "group" named "Blocked Calls" which it would add the *67 to as well.
Whenever I called a number and it would be blocked the phone would give 2 short "vibrations" to tell me the number was blocked.
I would LOVE to have a program like this for the droid..... provided it worked well enough. An on/off widget would be nice, but not needed.
I know an app like this would sell well in the 'droid market place..... hell, I'd gladly pay $20 to have something like this again.... it's very important to me.
Where I work we are not issued cell phones but we are required to have them (Sucks, Huh?)..... I don't like the average "joe" I call on my phone to get my mobile number.... However my family won't answer blocked calls.. Go figure

You should turn this into a BOUNTY, I would happily pay $10 to $20 for this app to any developer who can make it like magicall.
Anyone else that likes magicall hop on board...
OP and I are in for dough.

Why not sounds like it could be a decent app....

Well, so far it looks like a few people like Pie....
Any takers on the $$$ for this app?

Use Google Voice, give out Google Voice # works great for me

Well, I've setup google voice on my droid... I've had the voice # for a while now infact. However, this would still not achieve what I'm looking for. I need my # to show up as blocked to people I call for security reasons.

I could make it, but really $20 is too less for spending few weekends on it.
I can still mash something up for your particular need in one weekend. But If it needs to be a generic app which can meet a lot of requirements, then it will take good 3-4 weekends.

If you put it on the market you're sure to make more than $20 from it...

Its a solid app in Windows and does have a following...

If this is such a sure thing, why not pay a developer to create it and transfer ownership to you? You could sell it on the market yourself and rake in the dough.

id love to have magicall back too... one of the few apps i miss from the minmo days

Answering Machine for Mobile phone

TEAM,
I have been looking for answering machine for my HTC, Imate unfortunately I never come across this. I any one in the forum or developer of software for mobile can develop this or is it not possible. We have many software in market and many developer but I don't see why is not been develop.
Looking forward your comments and wishing every one in this forum
Happy New Year and All The best
It's called voice mail and it comes with pretty much every phone plan on earth. That's why there's no development for such a product - there is no need for it.

answering machine isnt like voicemail, with answering machine you could listen to the caller leaving a message, just as you would on a home answering machine, then pick up if you wanted, I had that option in my old sprint flip phone sanyo 4500.

Yeah and with every phone plan on earth, it is very restricted unless you are willing to pay a fortune to the provider.

Restricted how? I have AT&T and VM is included for free. I can check it from anywhere very easily. It does exactly what I want it to do.
with htc there seem to be a pretty steap deviding between pda and phone when it comes to speakers
do a search for requests for recording conversations
do a search for answering machine
do a search for getting the "phone" speaker to work with skype and other VOIP
it seem to be a hardware design issue

Canada for instance, don't know about other countries, you either pay $7-10 for three VMs or pay 15 or more for a few more, so no it is not always included in the plan.
here voice mail is included in all subscriptions i believe
never heard of anybody having to pay extre for it

Unlike other countries where little competion exists but carriers are intent on providing the maximum services, Canadian providers are exceptionally greedy. They've got the cash cow all to themselves and milking every last drop out of it. Hopefully this will change soon...

Unfortunately not all countries are built the same (mind you prices have gone down - but still not included), all providers in Canada are about the same, see below:

Revue from Smith Micro Software Incredible

Hi!
I have just seen this amazing program.
http://www.smithmicro.com/default.tpl?group=product_full&sku=QLMCWXX
To see photo, video and play music.
Bad news, we have to pay if we want to see it.
I am searching but...no free?
Do you like??
I want it!! free, of course.
$30? LOL
I'll wait until someone on this site codes a clone for free.
Nice stuff though.... but not nice enough to shell out $30.
well, you should brake into a car or someone's house and steal their phones. maybe someone has it on their device....
...so stupid.

It is pretty stupid that they don't offer a free trial download to try it out. I'm definitely not going to pay $30 for something that I don't even know what it's like. No thank you.

Maybe its because they don't want people to rip off their product without paying for it.

i don't know about this "revue software" and the description of what it does is not very clear to me, but i have tested another tool that does the same thing (i suppose. i'm french so my english is not perfect) named trakax on a htc vox and it seemed fairly good for a slow device (200 cpu) and non-tactile.
it should be very cool on a decent pdaphone with good cpu.
go here : http://www.trakax.com/software/mobile/
it costs 30 again, but you have a free demo to test it.

I agree, it may be difficult, but when you see someone asking for a copy of a retail piece of software on here, insisting they have it for free, (as if that's a right), then find a near identical request on a warez site asking for the crack for the same software, its not difficult to see where that activity would lead to if we all took that stance.
WB
I don't have a problem paying for the apps that we use on our devices and i'm willing to pay a whole helluva' lot more but we should @ least have the trial option to see if it's worth it or even if its compatible with our devices. Most developers give you that trial because they stand by their product and they know it'll sell itself once the word gets out, so maybe them not giving a trial offer says something about their product. Just my opinion.
I've done trials of and loved:
Resco Exlorer
Memmaid
AEButton
Ultimate Launcher
Vito Screen Capture
Phone Weaver
...And paid for:
Resco
Memaid
AEButton
UL
Vito
Phone Weaver
It wouldn't even occur to me to use a cracked copy. Weird since I've used warez for some windows PC software, but being on a forum like this you see how the programmers are good people, just like me (only smarter) and it puts a face to the theft and I wouldn't consider doing it. Now I don't do cracked stuff for PC software either. I guess its part of growing up.
Anyway, I think there are a lot of ppl like me that if they like a trial they will be HAPPY to buy it.
I have just found this video!
Hi
I found a video of Revue.
It seems to be fantastic even with an application to manage the files with the PC!
http://my.smithmicro.com/wireless/revue/Revue324_121807_OffLn.wmv
I want to test this program for my HTC Touch, but I can´t download it from anywhere.
Anyone has this program?
Can you tell me if it is fast and useful?
Anyone knows where can I download Revue?
Thank YOU ALL
I just took a quick glance at the site you listed and looks like something I used to use on my Palm, I think you can use this for free, don't completely remember, but know I never paid for it. I remember now, you have to keep your pc online and you can access it for free, think that was the deal, and you had to pay to store your files online to access them while your pc was offline.
Anyway to the point its Avvenu, check it out.
Log Me In may be the same.
Caragato!!
Please NOT SPAM HERE!!!
So is this basically streaming media from your computer but with lots of organization options?
How is it not like Orb?
It is a finger friendly software just like iphone to see media on our pocketpc.

HTC Hero coming to 3 UK with free spotify premium

3 (UK) have just announced they are to start selling the HTC Hero, which will be bundled with 2 free years of Spotify premium.
More info here: http://www.three.co.uk/Internet_Services/Spotify
This is good news for me as I'm a 3 customer on an unlocked Hero. Hopefully we'll get the 3 skype application on android too!
Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere or is old news :S
Yeah I was about to post this too! Hopefully we should get the Skype app for our Heros as well! But let's hope 3 does allow us to use Skype as they would on their own Hero handset. You never know.
@cambria83 and @ alphabanker
Just in case if you are not aware, I and possibly some more users are already using Skype on 3 network as we would on 3's "skype compatible" phones.
There is a thread within Dream Application or search for iskoot for skype
Post your Qs if you need help.

As a matter of interest, why use iSkoot instead of Skype Lite? Neither are "true" VOIP products, and I presume that neither is able to take advantage of 3's free "Skype to Skype"?
Regards,
Dave
Damn, beat me to report this news!
Its certainly good news and according to http://www.computerweekly.com/Articles/2009/10/20/238204/unlimited-spotify-music-on-3s-htc-hero-handset.htm it says that the package includes "free skype-to-skype calls" -- I guess a working "iSkoot" (or something similar) is coming out for android!
@foxmeister, you are right that neither is a true VOIP software, but iSkoot calls a special voice number to give you free skype-to-skype calls (but at the moment, iSkoot isn't calling that special number!)

I use Sipdroid for Sip calls and "iskoot for skype" for skype calls. iSkoot for Skype works like normal skype for mobile and can make or receive calls from online skype contacts using data.
Yes, I must say that iSkoot for Skype as is, will use your minutes or credits so for most people it is not a viable solution but for those who are 3 PAYG or contract users can use it for free but the solution is a workround as mentioned in the "iskoot for skype" thread in Dream application section.
@tweedie, It works just like users have it on Nokias! But to push that .xml file the handset has to be rooted.
Edit: I just had a brief conversation with a 3 CS and was informed that Skype will be available, I have no idea if he was just assuming or advising me from the specs he might be quoting.

Are you using Sipdroid with pbxes.com? I had Sipdroid up and running "direct" on my G1 with my Vonage softphone account, but with the Hero it seems to register ok (indicator "led" goes green) and after about 10 seconds yellow disconnects and registers again. It does this continually making it unusable at present.

Dave

Hi,
Yes with pbxes.org I tried with voxalot where I has 4 or 5 sip providers registered but voxalot wont work on sipdroid. Only one way audio.
It seems to work fine with pbxes. Mine is a free account I dont mind becoming a paid user but than I will expect them to deliver.
Skype is something new in latest sipdroid application but as far as I know no one has configured yet! There are some questions at the parent website sipdroid.org and click on users discussions.
Its amazing that no one from the core team led by Pascal has replied or offered any help.
On a sideline, Fring may be launching their client soon and could be followed by Nimbuzz and perhaps Octrotalk.

At present Nimbuzz offers chat only.
Nobody mentions anything about Spotify?
I think this package is nice in idea, but rather expensive at £35 per month for 24 months, plus £99.99 for the phone.

Yeah the price would put me off too! I'd be tempted by the monthly price if I didn't have to pay for the phone as well. I guess the price sort of covers the free spotify anyway!
I am due an upgrade on 3 at the moment, but I already bought a Hero and don't really know what to do.
I hope its possible that if you already on a 3 network, got a htc hero with premuim spotify account, then free download of music without it using your internet allowance would be do-able.
Guys, Im really struggling here....
I bought an unlocked HTC Hero a few weeks before 3 announced their package...
I'm not getting my head around the iSkoot workaround. I understand why I need to do it, to allow my handset to dial over the 3 network to the "magic" 3 mobile to allow a virtual sykpe to skype conversation, but I can't understand how to achieve it. I'd rather not root just now and there was a glimmer of hope in this thread mentioning that it was not necessary.
If anyone can help, it would be great and would make our wedding (on 1/10/10 does anyone else see the binary joke?!) next year easier to plan as we live in different countries right now.
Any help/suggestions would be gratefully received - feel free to PM.
Thanks
No need for iskoot stuff. Look on the market for 'skype for 3'. It's a proper Skype software for the 3 network
Don't get the joke. Isn't that binary for 1/2/2 which that date has gone?

It's not really 'free' - both Orange and T-Mobile will do the Hero free on a £25 contract, and Spotify is £10 a month.
By sticking with T-Mo, I've saved the £100 upfront price of the phone, and I can cancel my Spotify at any time if I don't like it and just pay my basic £25 talk/text/internet fee. Oh, and I've been with 3 twice now since they started and their service is abysmal

Man, I can't wait to see how this new advertising campaign plays out!
Who's ready for another 1.05 million?!
.
I dont know why they decide to come up with this commercial after its realeased and not before... the phone speaks for itself in the store it looks exactly the same as an iphone to the general public which is a big plus... there was 8 people at the store today swapping moto droids for the incredible... my day 1 battery life sucked but I was messing with it all day... I let it die until it shut itself off... I still believe that this is the way you need to train your batteries whether it is true or not

I'm on T-Mobile with the myFaves plan and my monthly bill often has both minutes and SMS at less than two dozen
Even if you don't use your Google number as a favorite or for calling people, everyone can still use it for free SMS, especially since it's instant-push now!
Nice commercial.
I love my google voice. Free visual voice mail with transcription. If thats not enough, you can record conversations, conference call with up to 4 people, free sms, and receive one call from several numbers. When ever someone says here is the info, I just dial the number 4, and the conversation is recorded for play back later. Very nice.

Cool list of apps I haven't seen mentioned anywhere

Just going to list a few apps I found that don't seem to get much attention. You might find it useful. Add cool unique apps to the list if you want. Im not gonna talk about stuff everyone has tho like launcher pro.
TiKl: if you had a nextel phone because of the chirp feature, use this app. It works great, and it's free. It's in beta, but I haven't had any issues with it and I recommend it to all my coworkers. So everyone I work with that has an android phone loves this app.
Wordfeud: it's like scrabble, you can play casually against friends or some random person. Pushes to your phone when it's your turn.
mr number: it is a caller id program. kinda like city id, but more features... And it's free. Although to use the main feature of the program you need to let the program use your contacts list for other people to search. They can't search your phone or anything, but when someone calls you from a new number I think it crowd sources the name for that number. If a collection agency calls from a random number it shows collections. (i don't know from personal experience lol)
Well there are 3 new apps I found that I haven't really heard mentioned anywhere. Hope you like at least one of them.
Never mind about that mr number app. I no longer recommend it. If you read the tos, they say they will sell contact info to 3rd parties.
