I don't know about unbeatable but WM7 has gone through several delays as I'm sure Microsoft is aware that they are standing on there last leg to keep there (9%) of there mobile market shares, so......
...if Microsoft is smart, and it looks like they seem to be (delays signify that WM7 is not quite ready and thus, not rushing it), it should be a much improved Operating System as it has to compete against Symbian and Apple's and blackberry.
Market Shares:
Symbian....50.3%
Blackberry..20.9%
Iphone........13.7%
Windows.......9.0%
Andriod.......2.8%
WM 6.5 was was not even supposed to have existed but due to the delays, 6.5 was nothing more than a stand in, holding it's place for what some have anticipated to be revolutionary OS. Not sure if they will push through with that term when it actually comes out of the gates. Time will tell...

There isn't too much wrong with this one. Windows Mobile 6.5 is by far the most powerful mobile OS and it's getting bashed just because it lacks a nice and simple user interface.
Windows Mobile 7 will bring a new, hopefully exciting, user interface, probably based on Silverlight, new APIs for developers to create great applications that look and work much better than what we have now and better integration with Microsoft's services (Zune, XBox, Windows Live, Bing...).
On the other side, it will probably break compatibility with most, if not all, currently available applications.

And I think it should. The past should be scrapped to create a new future. Like OS9 to OSX and PalmOS to WebOS. Bring emulation if really needed.

Don't forget the new core of the CE which will fully support the new fast processors. That means we get an even faster phone.

windows 7 base on ce 6.0 core so ther wont be any backward compatibility.
Probably new core will be much stable and faster (support for FPU) and some othre stuff.

will windows mobile 7 be freely avalible on hd2? some sites are saying yes and others are saying no. it is my understanding that wm 6.5 and wm7 will co-exist, with wm7 aimed at high end devices (i assume because of the higher system requirements). would be good if HTC gave the hd2 wm7, as it would really open up the device in terms of performance and features.

Nobody knows yet.
My guess is that there will not be an official HTC release of it, for the same reason as there hasn't been any official WM6.5 upgrade for the Touch HD - WM7 is due to launch at about the same time as the successor to the HD2 (Q4 this year), and allowing HD2 users to upgrade easily to WM7 would cannibalise sales of the HD3 (or whatever it's called); HTC would obviously prefer people who want to upgrade to WM7 to buy a new HTC phone to do it.
I've no doubt that attempts will be made by the ROM "chefs" on this site to produce "cooked" ROMs for the HD2 based on WM7. However, this may be a much tricker proposition than, say, producing a WM6.5 ROM for a Touch HD, as WM7 is based on an entirely different Operating System kernel and uses a new driver model. That means that unless there is some reference device which uses exactly the same hardware as the HD2 and runs WM7 and whose drivers the ROM chefs can pirate, it's not going to work.

"smartphone" is generally used also for devices with touchscreen...
I think HTC is afraid of MS doing again what they have done with the media players business: they used other hardware vendors to create market perception and later they went for their own product (Zune) with a different DRM and left the "PlaysForSure" clan with cold feet.
Now that Apple has its own branded phone Microsoft will have to have a MS branded phone soon and that could mean bye bye to HTC and the other vendors, so better jump ship before it's too late.
This announcement could also be only a warning to MS; at the moment HTC is practically the only company in the world that could throw a blow at Microsoft: without HTC the MS market share in smartphones would fall to a level of insignificance and they would have to rebuild their mobile phone market share from scratch.
Btw, is there any other OS than wm6 that we can port into right now like linux or something, I really love trying stuff like this out. Is there any way to put s60 v3 or even linux onto my trinity?

AkshayGenius,
check Hermes forum, haret supports Trinity and semi-bootable kernel exists.
Doesn't boot completely on Hermes or Trinity so far.

Not really, in terms of Windows Mobile devices and WM5, you had the Pocket PC and Smartphone edition, the latter of which is on devices without touch screen e.g. HTC Meteor, Canary, Tanager etc.
I don't know if you mean "generally" as in all devices that are smartphonish on the market - you've got a lot that's not touch screen there too e.g. N95.

With "generally" I mean what you read in market researches. When you read about the Symbian market share that includes both S60 (no touchscreen) and UIQ (touchscreen) phones. Same goes for Windows Mobile.
The term "smartphone" was not invented by microsoft (did they ever invent anything? ) and it means "phone where you can install and use third party software beyond java applets" as opposed to "feature phone" where you can only use what is preinstalled in the phone (and only add Java applets).
So can anybody make an OS which I for ex can put on my p3600 for ex.

HTC has the best position in the market because of the Windows line. When they abandone the Windows platform, they give their market share to HP for example.
HTC also knows that Microsoft integrates everything from Office, Exchange, VOIP, Sharepoint to Live, etc.
Saying one thing and do some expirements with Linux, puts the pressure on Microsoft for nice deals (cheaper OS) for more HTC profit.
I haven't looked for other sources, but, a reading of the article hardly supports the assertion that HTC is "officially abandoning" WM. I mean, the ONLY quote just says they're "looking at" other OS's.
Talk about exaggeration.

Indeed so! BSD is now a reality on the iPhone - the mind boggles at how the market could look in 12 months. Mind you, I still prefer my Trinity to the iPhone but am particularly peeved that HTC haven't seen fit to officlally release WM6 for it.

If HTC would evolve a bit and embrace the 3rd party app model present on the iPhone, enhance it a bit and add support for fetching data from hardware components like gps modules, not like java, but something like Adobe® AIR™ for mobile devices with offline capabilities, that would be great foe everybody, most of the apps we use are for improving/replacing the poorly designed windows mobile apps&interface, other can be fully replaced by web apps, codewallet for example, imagine it with offline and online modes, sync between both, and you have your passwords accessible on any device or desktop, multimedia editing is also possible using flash and server-side code, like picnik.com, so, it would be necessary to create new apps, but this new model would be far better than the current one, it would also eliminate the need for manual app updating, it would... heh, make cracking impossible, so, good for the devs for that and also for the easier&cheaper development(VS not needed, html+css+flash+javascript+rails[heh ]), it would also give HTC the freedom to create a sleek GUI(compiz and stuff?) since its easier to replace the linux gui than wmobile, no licensing fees from ms i think.

Windows Phone 7 with full "multitouch" on our HD2´s

Hey xda´s!
Today I´m getting my own HD2 from england and I can´t wait to hold it in my hands
But I have some questions about the phone.
The first one is...Will the HD2 be upgradeable to Wiindows Phone 7 or if it will not be official upgradeable will the xda´s can do it? I know its early to ask about WM7 because there are not really many specs out about it yet but I would like to know what you think about that
And my second question is...Will the HD2 with it´s capacitive screen have full "multitouch" aahh sorry "pinch to zoom" support on WM7?
...or will the xda´s enable more multitouch gestures in the next weeks or months?
There have been tons of queries about this subject, please use the search before posting. It's probably safe to say that HTC won't be giving us WinMo7 the official way, but I'm sure the XDA community will find a way getting it to our beloved HD2 "the other way"
it will be possible congrats for ur new mob you'll love it
Yep! Thats right! If not Officially, you can bet that Win Mo 7 will be made available on the HD2 by the talented devs here. And not just that, we might even get Android to run on it!
Congrats on your purchase!

Why do people want to port Android on Wimo Phones? I you like Andorid, why don't you directly buy an Android phone which was designed for the operating system. I guess thats better than having a bad ported version running on a phone desigend for windows mobile.
actually this subject is non sense.

People do it because, in the case of the HTC Leo/HD2, there's not one piece of hardware quite like it being sold with Android installed.
I guess smartphones are quickly becoming the new PCs & Laptops of the age. Some people buy a PC with an OS installed as default, they like the hardware but not the OS (usually Windows, maybe OSx) so they just format the HDD and install say Ubuntu etc etc.

Yeah but you will never get a well-performing port until an OEM makes a device with the same hardware. Who's going to make the drivers for you?

That's true. Though the Acer A1 and Xperia X3 both use snapdragon so drivers (or partial drivers) will undoubtedly make their way to the porting project.
Yes but then you will have Android devices with the same level of hardware as HD2! So the initial question remains - why not buy them instead of coping with inevitable problems with ports?
It's not like drivers instantly start working when you copy them from one device to another, even with the same hardware platform - check out the video drivers thread to see what I mean. You're doomed to have problems like battery drain or calls dropping or poor performance in some areas or what not.
Then there will be some problems with applications - I don't know about the new devices, but all the current Android ones have low-res screens.
In addition to that, you really want 2.0 with Sense, and there's no port of that available AFAIK. Plain Android is just dull, it's nothing to fret about, IMO.
I understand the fun of porting and making things work, but using that as your primary device? It's guaranteed to be worse than what you have now.
Neither of those devices have 4.3 inch touchscreens. Also The HD2 has a look and feel all of its own.
The only thing spoiling it for me is Windows Mobile and the terrible onscreen keyboard so if we could port Android to this device I would be elated as it has a much better marketplace (Windows Marketplace is really a sack over overpriced crap), less cludge and better built in apps - the Youtube app for example supports user subscriptions and favourites viewing, and I'm a big online video fan.
The fact that Android was built from the ground up for capacitive touchscreen devices rather than being a patched up ropey old operating system with a shell interface on top makes me drool at the idea of it being on the HD2, and YES we could buy an Android device of similar specification BUT where's the fun in that??? Check the name of this site.........................
Well, I'm not on the Google/Android hype bandwagon, I do admit that the UI out of the box there is much more finger friendly and the notifications are implemented in the best way among all the mobile phone OSes, but otherwise Android's greatness is blown out of all reasonable proportion. An Android crippled by driver incompatibilities/incomplete implementation is something that totally misses the concept of attractive in my terms...
That said, I'm sure I'll install it myself one day (via haret or otherwise) just out of curiosity, that would certainly serve to satisfying the geek in me. But to expect that your experience from using the device would improve is somewhat unrealistic.
I am happy with the HD2 and figured I would decide what platform to go with at the time of my next phone purchase. This report should mean I can try out Windows Mobile 7 on the HD2 and take that into consideration as well.

health, I will be breaking down here because I do not know english: D
My question is if it would somehow go to the Windows Mobile 7 on Touch 2.
if there is somewhere I'm sorry I'm a beginner: D
If you're asking if the touch 2 will be able to run windows phone 7 OS then almost certainly not, sorry
The real question is, would you want to? apart from being nice to look at, WP7 is very limited.
Not almost certanly, its 100 000 % sure
I know, I was being a little too kind.
Like I said, for me, the negatives outweigh the positives when it comes to wp7, only the new ui is improved. and the xbox live integration.
Keep in mind guys that you can not run any existing application on WM7 (change of operating system)....requires new development of all software.....
Not sure if I want WM7.....untill enough freeware is available.....

Best Mobile OS.

Many People come up with this question that which OS is better? Android or WinMO? 7 or 6.5? So Now i've answers for all your questions.
Please see the reviews of the following OS(s) below:-
Android
Android is an Mobile OS Developed by Themegastar1. First it came in HP Netbooks(In China), After it started coming in mobile devices. It was made popular by Adding the Name of Google, INC to it and by the launch of HTC Nexus One Smartphone. After Android came on Many mobiles but is it good, lets check it out.
Android is considered as a good OS all because of its variety of Apps. As Android was made popular by Google, all people/companies are making apps for Android rather than WinMo. Android itself is a very Cheap OS and is readily available. It uses Low Technology and If it was not made popular by Google, it would have very less apps and would have been sick as hell! Android is only for the teens not for the adults or the people who use to have good phones or want to tel the world about how good phone we have.
Less User Interfaces are available for Android which makes it a stupid choice. XDA Developers have made many User Interfaces for it but actually Android is a loser. HTC has tried to develop many User Interfaces for Android but it was unsuccessful to create an advanced User Interface like HTC Sense/HTC Touch Flo 3D, But XDA Developers Made it.
Besides from its low Technology, Bad User Interfaces the only benefit of Android is about it variety of Apps.
Themegastar1 Rating- 7/10.
Windows Mobile 6.5
So here comes the exciting Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. It is a good OS. It was launched by Microsoft after the launch of Windows Mobile 6.1 which itself was a good OS.
When you buy a HTC phone Running this OS, you get a very good User Interface that is- HTC Sense. Even If you buy your phone from another companies you get good User Interfaces. Its technology is very good and costly and is best for adults, business-men, teens who like to tell people how good phone i m carrying etc. Besides from these things, it contain MS Office which itself is a costly and essential thing for phone.
The main Dis-advantage of this phone is that it has less apps available. If you don't have a High Memory Storage Card(At least 2 GB memory Card Required), your phone may hang while opening the Windows files or any other file, that can be resolved by locking the phone for a few seconds, and then click on arrow and click on My Device/Storage Card.
Themegastar1 Rating- 9.5/10.
Windows Phone 7
The latest OS is released in 2010 and is a very good OS. There are some problems of this OS and some good points.
For Gamers, this OS is best as it Contains XBOX Live.
For Stylish Persons, it is the worst, as it is not customizable and no User Interface can run on it.
High Specifications are kept for running this OS.
Good Speed with no Hang Technology.
Themegastar1 Rating- 9.5/10.
So which is Better?
The Answer is given below:-
Windows Phone 7 is the Best OS but because of its High Specs list and No user Interface, it reduces its points whereas Windows Mobile 6.5 has all things except hanging if low Storage Card Memory and XBOX Live. And Android has a variety of Apps.
So its a tie between Windows Phone 7 and Windows Mobile 6.5. Android is out of the list.
High Speed, Less hanging(If low memory) and XBOX Live and more apps should be added to Windows Mobile 6.5 to make it the best OS.
You can think what Should be added to Windows Phone 7 to make it the Best OS but according to me its a tie.
Price Range
Android- Low
Windows Phone 7- Moderate
Windows Mobile 6.5- High

thanks for your opinion
This made me laugh quite a bit, based on your reviews I don't think you've used any of the mentioned OS's ANYWHERE near enough to come a solid conclusion on EITHER of them. From using all in depth probably the worst 3 reviews I've ever read on anything anywhere about Android WM6.5 and WM7. A big LOL from me, although an opinion of course.
LOL
Which OS is the best?
My answer: none.
Throw the iPhone in there for comparisons sake, and they all have very unique strengths and weaknesses, as each OS has taken certain routes to differentiate themselves from their competition. Each OS appeals to different types of users, and what's important to one person, may mean jack squat to another. One user can view a particular feature of an OS as its 'strength', while another can view it as its 'weakness' (ie, some people will embrace the minimalistic nature of WP7, while others consider it blasphemous).
Different strokes for different folks, and no one is 'right' about which OS is the 'best'.
The lengths that people go to defend their beloved OS, and bash another is almost comical.

This is what happens after about 80 translates.
OK first of all, Android did not start out in the US on the Nexus One. It started out on, I believe, the G-1. Secondly, the OS is not and should not be considered a 'teen OS' that is not recommended for Adults. I am 45 years old, an adult, and having used MANY of the phones and OS's out there, Android is as good or better than anything in use today. As for the comparison to Windows 6.5 and 7, please... neither of those hold a candle to what Android is. I personally believe that it's far better than the iPhone OS's (et al) as well.
Your review of these OS's is ridiculous. Along with your horrible English, elementary school style of grammar, and moronic comparative reviews, I might get a few nods of approval if I recommend you leave the forum and come back when you:

Dear lord can u be more ignorant than this, if you are joking then it isn't that funny, you wasted 2min of my life :S if you are serious then get some education.
1- History of Android
2- WM6.5 OS is 100% independent from the SD unless it is R/W on it
3- WP7 games are still in their infant stage

[Q] Has anyone already news about Windows Phone 8?

Hey all,
As the title suggests, this is the question to you pros .
Are there any Infos already available?
I know it might be too early but asking can't harm anyone
If there are any, do you think it will be portable to our lovely HD2?
I think you are getting ahead of yourself I mean windows 8 hasn't even come to computers yet

Windows 8 is scheduled Autumn 2012 which means WP8 will be way after that i'm afraid. Being a big fan of Win 7 and WP7 i can only say that we'll welcome the new releases with open arms.

I extremely doubt it.
WP8 will almost certainly be only for dual core+ devices by the time is developed/released.
We are still in waiting for stable Mango release..... You are into WP8
we know it will be released with the windows 8 desktop platform, the problem is at what stage of the windows 8 desktops life, all we can say for sure is that they both will exist at the same time, so somewhere between 2012 -2014 more likely the towards the latter.
im actually quite liking this unified OS idea, lets just hope MS doesnt cut the balls of the desktop OS like its done with WP

Come on people, mango is not out yet... Windows 8 RC may become available for public testing this fall, but no promises... The current windows8 supposed versions are skinned w7 with some additional options that may or may not make it in the final release of w8. The tile UI is not available. WP8 is not even in the books right now, mango will be the one to look for. Mango on hd2 is rubbish compared to the mango released officially from Microsoft for developers that is working flawlesly. Forget that dual core crap too, those are single core processors designed to handle graphic as a separate process. Microsoft has an agreement to make the software upgradable across the board, so it will not limit any device as long as it meets the base requirements. This said by the time that is out, what we have now will be so outdated. HD2 will always be the best phone I have ever had (I have 4). All running different things. Not to say anything else, its time to let them to rest and only for testing stuff or even just let it rest in pice and be the best phone ever made for cross system platforms. HD7 is great and mango is flawless. Spend some $$$ and experience the real thing. You already had a taste of the Os. Let it go. Better things are coming.
