i would also like to know this, thanks.

everyone has their own opinion but I think the hd2 shouldn't go anywhere near the pool, never mind how big it is.. It might get wet
ok personally I find the pagepool set at 22mb to work best for me...

I set mine to 16, but i might be way off I think its a matter of taste and depends on the ROM.

Can we use the PagePoolChanger.exe that I used on my Diamond roms for the HD2? if it does work it looks like the standard roms are 15meg. Ill probably set mine to around 22meg, the phones got loads of ram and a bigger pool should help things out

is a larger pagepool better for the hd2?

sorry for my ignorance
what is the best and fastest way to set pagepool?
thx...!!!

Can someone post me the link to pool tools ?
I need info about default pool sizes
thanks

Depending on the apps you use and so forth. Pagepooling is the ability to change the amount of virtual memory the OS uses to run programs. So for instance, larger more intense apps like tomtom require more memory to run so with a larger set pp, tomtom will open faster.
A general rule of thumb is that larger is better however, there are limits to this as if you go too far, it will work in reverse.
Testing the limits using benchmarks is the most objective way to discern performance improvements and/or limitations. If there are significant improvements between tests, then the nake eyes should be sufficient to conclude.
The HD2 does have some nice memory overhead so it should be fun to see what this baby can do....

Xannytech's HD Rom uses 20mb.
The HD2 which has almost double the resources should be able to hit 24mb easy.

OK, thus have you check to see if this happens:
• the higher the PP the lower your Program Memory goes, yes?
If it doesn't change as you change your PP, then it doesn't work.
I believe you however some people think it's working and sometimes it actually doesn't. Do the above test to see if it works...
MORE INFO on PP <<HERE>>

I set my to 0 (auto) and
It has been running very well and very fast.

2D acceleration for Polaris under WM 6.5 (package inside)

Update: pcarvalho has released a WM6.5 ROM that has all the files built in! Read more > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=506043
Update: I've attached a .ZIP file with all that you need to test.
This package is released AS IS, only for testers. It has many bugs and some programs just won't start (like iGO8). It needs to be polished as the drivers are unfinished.
___________________________________
Boys and girls, I have good news for us, Polaris users. GfxBoost is working under Windows Mobile 6.5.
And finally, what we all were looking for: there are improvements!! Even with game emulators! You can watch the video I recorded here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYEWu9zLg6A
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MKPL5V-p-g
At the moment, all that I can say is THANK YOU to the ones that made it possible !! The next days there will be information about it. Hold on!
The next challenge:
As many of you know, Polaris has a software problem with the touch screen that makes the CPU usage goes wild everytime you tap it. This produces lots of problems when scrolling and when making touch gestures. The video can be perfect in terms of speed, but I we have a too busy CPU, it produces a bottleneck that ruins all the stuff.
@rogro82 made his way trying to modify the touch.dll (presumably, it's responsible of the touchscreen). But I think it is a work in progress that was never finished.
For this reason, I really would like that a smart mind would put some light into this issue. It's the last barrier to a fully unleashed device.
Great! I am testing GfxBoost in the Polaris but I can not even see concrete improvements so far. Waiting for news
I've recorded a video
Here is a video I've recorded: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MKPL5V-p-g
It cannot really show how smooth it is, but believe me, it's pure silk.
I've applied the patch that rogro82 released (Touched.cab) to soften the touchscreen response and it's even better
As soon as I receive the appropiate commands, I will tell you more info. The MSM72XX Team is working into it.
fards is the one that gave me the files to activate the 3D acceleration.
Chainfire released GfxBoost.
pcarvalho cooked WM 6.5 eXtreme.
I don't want to hurt to forget anyone, and I'm only testing. All the merits are to be given.

Hi GfxBoosts makes use of the 3D capabilities of MSM72XX (although it improves 2D). You have to be able to run 3D benchmarks like lights.exe. Unders Windows Mobile 6.5 I wasn't able to run it before. But thanks to fards, this changed. And now GfxBoost works like a charm.
awesome! good luck guyz, i hope u'll do it

well you toke the files that where replaced and placed them in again...thats why it works...but thats also why it crashes...nk was patched to use less memory (to get 101mb of ram)...so when it needs more and cant get it...what you get is a system crash...
why did you (or fards) use 3.13 and not the 3.19 ddi and disptools?
Edit: just found out why 3.13 instead of 3.19...will not boot even

Aldiko Book Reader in 240x320 NAND Donut AOSP Eclair ?

I found this Aldiko program and previously it worked perfectly. I am not sure what resolution I was running at, I think it was 320 x 428 though. It fit perfectly on the screen.
Now that I am running 240 x 320 , title pages are fine, but as I flip through, the pages are skewed off of the screen to the left so you cannot read the leftmost words, and to the right, you can see the first word on the following page. It makes it impossible to read anything
Does anyone have ideas about how to fix this besides going back to a 320x428 screen size? I haven't had success tweaking the columns in the program's own settings.
I greatly appreciate any help on this!!!
The same is happening to me. I think it's due to the resolution you have.
The application assumes a width when it's another. The offset is wrong and it's added up on every page, so it never gets the correct focus.
Did you change your lcd.density to 110? You need 110 for 240x320 to fit correctly.

I'm not sure about this - I am using DZO 240x320 flashed to NAND - whatever the default is that is what I have.
Is there any way to check / change this with NAND? I know how to do it on the MicroSD card using default.txt but am new to NAND.
Greatly appreciate the help!
hey
you need to have ur res at 320x480 for alot of apps. they make there builds with diff res because the screen looks a bit more clear at the lower qvga res. But then u miss out on alot of apps which i think kills the purpose of an android phone... u will have to flash it with ur own data.img that u make with haret (after u run haret it makes a data.img but make sure ur default.txt has its res 320x480 and the lcd density to 160). Then u follow the directions here and use the 320x480.nbh then after u flash u have to adb into your phone to /system/build.prop and change the lcd density to 160.
i cannot get mine to adb so i cant fix my density and alot of the apps i use need to be at 320x480 so i am just going to buy a hero tonight. hopefully u have better luck with it then me.

Haha enjoy the hero, wish I could have one. I'm trying to see how long I can hold out, hanging on to my Vogue and $30 SERO.
That really stinks if 320x480 is required, I really can't survive in that resolution. Sure you can tweak the density but it never really works well for me, the text is too small in Maps and that is probably the most vital function for my phone.
really i think 320x480 looks great with maps (including the words) lol.. slowly more apps are getting qvga resolutions apparently. I hope i like the hero i heard the battery life is worse then the vogue with android lol.
I have version of Aldiko which works seamlessly on 240 x 320, I will try to post later tonight, it is freeware.

Page pool size

Just for fun I created a pagepool size of 100 Mb. First, to test if it would really result in some significant speed gain and second to find out how and where the additional memory was taken from.
I never noticed this, but appearantly the size of the pagepool is taken from the program memory. Now, i'm asking myself, can't the pagepool size be taken as a measurement for how real the newly gained 576 ram is? For example, maybe someone can create a page pool size of 448 Mb (the size of the ram according to the specifications), just to see if the device is still starting up and if there is some significant memory left. (unfortunately I can't do this at the moment).
I know the size of the ram was tested before. Nevertheless, for some sceptics, and there are still some sceptics out there, this might be some convincing additional proof.
Second. I read some threads about page pool sizes and read that for old devices one of the biggest constraints was the available program memory. For the HD2 this isn't a issue anymore, so, from this new perspective I like to ask the cooks here: what would be a good page pool size for the HD2. What are the other constraints here which really matter.
(I now that this is a difficult thing to make statements about. Nevertheless, please give it a shot. Cause i'm new to cooking I like to learn something from it)

Furthermore, I was wondering what the default pp size is of the HTC roms.
From my experience 0 will work just fine as it is dynamic but I find that with it set at say 16-20 things seem faster, more instant. I don't know if it has to due with the dynamic scaling or what.

Hi there!
1st of all I'm new to page pool stuff. I've heard about it though but it always seemed to much work for me.
As i got my HD2 i finally got interested working with pp. (Memory is not an issue anymore on the HD2) =]
Also, there was something about the relation between pp and battery life, is this true?
I'm always for the lookout for clean and fast ROM's but this seems to be a big factor too.
(Can anyone give me some advice on (Dutch) ROM's and a good pp setting?)

haha tried.. decided to go back to old rom and charge my phone every 3 days instead of 1.. but camera fix will be pretty nice though
try a different camera app, such as lgcamera. free on the market, and lets you choose fps and stuff.
Oic, will try that when i fix my sbf first :S
hmm okies lgcamera doesnt really help. couldnt even record. i saw dexter mention about the libraries. Is is possible to port the libraries over and will it work just by porting them?
Thanks
Personnally, I set autokiller with others values by changing install-recovery.sh, I overclock to [email protected] vsel and I modify readahead.kb file with 512 value by install-recovery.sh.
For autokiller, it's good to test with app autokiller first.
I have less freeze in records.
If someone is interest about that, I will post my settings in few days.
EDIT : not with 512 value, 2048 is better

I don't know about install-recovery.sh. It sounds quite useful. Do you have a link?
How to use install-recovery.sh?
Thanks!!
I just modifiy install-recovery.sh files in /etc/ and I add lines :
#To improve sd card read/write
echo "2048" > /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb
#To modify autokiller settings
echo "3072,2048,9216,15360,15360,20480" > /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree
I found tip for sd card in another forum and for memorykiller, app autokiller can do it.
I don't know if it's really improve something a lot but I find it's better so, you can try if you want.
wow yes it helped a lot. much smoother now like khal's rom. Thanks again! =)
For me, it's work but I have again small freeze in records. But I think motorola have to do something to fix record. They sell a phone with a 8MP camera but we can't record without freeze.
PS : If you have problems with games that are in sd card change 2048 by 256,512 or 1024 default value is 128 but if you removes lines its come to 128 by itself.
hmm but the 8MP don't have anything to do with video quality?
but that is right.. it's absolutely a cheek that video quality is that low

My goal is to increase the dedicated video memory from 32MB to 64MB/128MB/256MB (64MB is probably the safest, but I am aiming for 128MB), which *should* increase performance in some desktop games (I.e. Batman: Arkham Asylum).
It will be based off official drivers from Dell/Intel.
I'll try to have a version up soon for testing (I myself may or may not test it depending on the circumstances). ;D
1/24/15
-Intel Released Driver Update on 1/21/2015
-Development Will Continue with 11/2/2013 Driver
I will be willing to test.

If anything you can let me know via PM or Instant messaging.
Well, Windows Technical Preview decided not to load Windows Explorer anymore, so development is now on hold.

So, A03 has that option?
As for game performance, not a lot of games will benefit depending on system requirements.

Those games, I think, don't use that much dedicated memory. How did you downgrade to A03?

Well, it's shared memory, so you should be fine.

Ok.
So,I tested this little monster in 3dmark and... that changing memory gives nothing in performance :x
1 is default settings (32mb,gfx boost off)
2 is default but boost on
3 is all for max (512mb boost on and other stuff that i dont remeber :v)
As you can see 3 get the best but it cut me 500 mb ram,so i recommend 32 mb
By the way, that boost is nasty, it's giving 1000 points and about 5 fps ;p
Thanks

I'd say more dedicated memory would help with CoD, or even something like GTA IV, of which I hear needs a good bit of dedicated memory.
EDIT: The A03 BIOS isn't listed under Other Versions on Dell's site, what model do you have? I have the 5000 series.
