I was wondering how can we allow the HD2 to preview a language other than english, such as sms, email, contacts without changing the GUI language.

Try in regional settings,
selecting your preferred language

Well, yes, that works if one is using an alphabetic language. Unfortunately, such a simple solution is not possible if the required language is an Asian language. Under those circumstances, installing fonts is required, or flashing a ROM that supports the language so that you can also use a soft keyboard for input.

@wacky.banana: Thanks for the tip, I did that already and read through it, perhaps I missed it but i couldnt find anything that referred to adding an asian language.
@rlydiard: So where can I download an asian font for the phone ? And where should I install it.
I am skeptic about flashing the ROM because it voids the warranty, and can damage the phone if done incorrectly.

I wish I could help you more on locating Arabic fonts, but as I am based on the island where HTC is headquartered, I am only familiar with installing traditional or simplified Chinese fonts in an English UI.
There are many talented Arabian members on XDA who can probably start you out in the right direction. Any fonts you acquire can be placed in the Windows folder on your device. This method will allow you to read the Arabic fonts on your device, but your keyboard would not allow you to write, so that is a whole other problem.
Perhaps doing a search of all the forums will come up with some leads on locating an Arabic font for you.

Maybe you should try this:

What you need is an Arabizer and as far as I know one of the best solution is MOBiDIV (http://www.citglobal.com/mobidiv/home.jsp) It's shareware but really reliable and as far as i Know it has been testet successfully on HD2....

Unfortunately, not all answers can be found in HTC user manuals, but then, that is why XDA Developers exists in the first place, right? Getting unofficially supported languages to work on our beloved HTC devices is a good example of that.

@Som30ne: This program changes the language of the whole UI, I only want the phone to read another language, keyboard isnt as important now since its a hassle to fix.

But nothing really happened, I restarted the phone and nothing happened as well.

It worked but it has a small bug, the text is displayed in reverse order.
If you found another application, please DO reply back here, I really appreciate it

You can try the attached file. It uses traditional Chinese though, not simplified characters. Unfortunately, at the moment I do not have a solution for simplified characters. Also, you can check this thread

If I find another solution I will let you know. In the meantime, you might post a request on the thread where the last solution was found. Maybe someone there knows how to change the order of words. It seems like a rather strange bug. You might also follow this thread, although I know you do not want to flash your LEO.

hmm, it seems that there is no english skin/theme for the phone then. can't you program the phone with RUU? just a guess.

Hello Golles, There are dutch rom's available wich you can flash on the Polaris if the device is Hard-SPL. It's possible to flash the rom in any language.
You can flash your phone with every rom here...
And every rom means you can chose from several languages....

i have a problem with all the latest xt9 packages
when i use it and save words its safed in the memory
butt hen when i make a soft reset it has forgotten all words that i added
do you have the same problem or does anybody know a way to fix it

You need to make sure NOT to cook in the database files that it uses, otherwise they become "ready only" and the device can't overwrite them to save new words in them. I believe both of them have an .adb extension. I might be mistaken though, someone correct me please.

I try [ROM]KaosFroyo V18 , that is amazing. I really like it. But when I try to login chinese website, there are some display problem. every chinese character became blank block. This never happens in my previous v2.1 rom. I think android should support the whole language around the world. May be Kao delete some font file from the rom. So what should I do now. Please help me out. Thanks a lot.

First I know this rom is still working by KAOS. I do appreciate his hard work to let me enjoy the 2.2 rom. So I just report a bug or something missed in the current building. That's all.
Second I know it is a 2.2 Rom. I mention that in my *Previous* 2.1 rom. There is no chinese display problem. So I think I should report it to let other people know.
Third I will try V19, Hope it will work.
Fourth why does china Gov. need to filtering the web content? Do you think chinese government will do this to prevent people log chinese website? Please don't tell me that you believe google's stupid complain about chinese government hack its website from some kind of kitchen school. It is just political. Nothing else. And people who like andorid is because we just want to use a linux based cell phone and nothing else. Right? let bull**** politics go away.

I'm using tytung's JellyBean V1.3a and that is one of the best ROM i've ever tried, but there is minor bug for me. I'm from Bulgaria and using the Bulgarian Keyboard layout. Unfortunately, when I press letter "й", it's type "и". I want to edit and fix this by myself, but I dont know where I must start from? Anyone who can help me with this?

Oh, thanks, I will try that. But I noticed something. I do Task29 and do fresh install one more time and when ROM boot, everything was fine, and after a few hours the "й" gone again. It's very strange. I will try to using app for that, but if anyone knows something about that, please reply!
EDIT: There is no difference with external app..... still waiting for some support, guys!
