help..htc dropped and now dead.... - HD2 General

hi all,
today i suddenly dropped my hd2 during my daily commuting out of my shirt pocket when i bent doen to pick sumthing up...even thgh it was in the pouch,,,the inside lcd screen developed a long crack across the upper face ..thgh it is visble only on dark screen prominently..
worse is the touch functions have suddenly stopped responding..i can not access my phien features by touch as nothing happens..
screen is stuck in unlock screen..cannot slide across to unock
tried soft/hard reset, practically everthing
its just 20 days old for gods sake,,wh culd be the matter

I feel for you ... is it insured?

no..will warranty cover that,,the i can recive phone calls fine....thru buttons only...is there any way to remove that lock screen so at least i can access function thru keys

Even so, you can't do much with those buttons alone. But sounds like you only broke the digitizer. It costs much lesser than the LCD. You may want to try fix it yourself.

Sorry to hear this chap. If it's not insured (I don't understand why if it's not) then your best bet is to send it back to HTC to get it repaired.
You must be gutted.

You can Insure your phone my friend.. check this
http://newindia.co.in/per-mobile.asp
From what I know..
National Insurance Company, Oriental Insurance Company, New India Assurance Company and United India Insurance Company cover mobile phone insurance. They fix compensation equivalent to cost of replacement by new mobile of same specifications and capacity, including all taxes and duties.
Hope this helps..

hi all..my dealer says he had forwarded hd2 to htc service center and since its a new model the screen replacement is not avalible..he said they quoted estimated price of 20 thousand for the screen.obnoxious..thts 400 dollars!!!
i searched ebay and found digisters selling for about 60 dollars..
my question is shuld i go ahead and buy .what is exctly a digitiser ,,
i dont want to find out after spending the money that its not a digitser problem,,is there nyway to acertain its digitser proble..i no more trust my dealer

400 dollars? that is half a hd2.
the upper layer of the screen is afaik the digitizer.
touchscreen is built of two elements. the lcd and the digitizer.
the digitizer is for handling touch. that may be the part which cracked and is not responding now.
however I am not sure if it's easy to replace the digitizer since you must seperate the lcd and digitizer which are tied closely together. maybe someone experienced here on xda knows how.

ummmm..so u mean basicslly there are 3 components
1..outer most glass which we touch pysically
2..digitser which is embeded on
3 lcd screen
is the digitiser made up of plastic material which is crackable or in my case lcd whihc is 3rd layer has cracked while digitser is intact
unfortunatly cannt post snaps as the instrument is with dealer..

Busted Outer Glass of LCD

Well I dropped my G1 the other day and it busted the outer glass part. The LCD is fine and it still works perfect. I have looked everywhere, with no luck of finding any parts for them. So I called HTC and they told me 150-250 to replace the glass!! So I was wondering if any one know anyone that does G1 Repair or if anyone know of another phone that has more ava. parts for it with a 3.17" Screen? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Nope, I got AT&T. Was thinking of taking apart the phone and getting the glass measurements and having a custom cut piece of glass.
i believe its a special type of glass
Pretty much stuck buying the glass from HTC on this one ...sorry
PS... it is glass
iphone 3g - Dream lcd
I read that the same screen is in use on the iphone 3g, I doubt its true they probably meant type or sumthin, maybe worth a check...
on the old palm pdas you could replace just the glass if the layer under it isn't damaged, this may no longer be possible with these screens, once the bigtime flashing begins there will be lots of bricks available pretty cheap, maybe you should keep an eye out for somebody who pooched the dev bootloader install then after you convince them they killed it you could buy it maybe for less than the HTC price...
gotta say, that sucks if you were a tmob customer you'd have a few options...

Hello. Don't you think It's weird that it happened to me too today?
I've never had a broke phone since my Nokia 8210.
Well, some idiot had placed out one of those kinds of plastic bands you use to seal packages with, a black one.
It was pitch dark and I fell as the plastic ring got snared around my feet. Obviously my Jabra bt3030 got pushed against the screen and it got severely cracked.
My insurance company seems to be covering the whole phone except a small sum. This was from the phone part, but I got to see if I can get something from the health insurance as I hit my head and scratched my hand (though not likely but I can always try)
The touch seems to work most of the time, though it reacts slowly but some times It's just dead.
This really sucks.
I'm dead serious when I'm talking that there was no way that the band could be seen when walking.

It is glass. But you can not simply cut a piece of glass to the same dimension as the touchscreen is integrated into the glass cover. So yes you will need to get a htc or aftermarket replacement part.
The interesting thing is that the repair cost you quoted is identical to the cost of the copay if you go with the Asurion device insurance T-mo offers. So device insurance would just be a waste of money at $5 a month if you end up with broken glass.
Looks like I will just have to hold onto it until aftermarket parts come out. I busted mine by letting it slip out of my hand while talking on it....then it took a 6ft fall to eventually land face first on concrete.....I didnt even wanna pick it up cause i new it was messed up and if it wasnt I was gonna call HTC and give them props! I have a ava. upgrade from AT&T Maybe get a Iphone until this one gets fixed then sale iphone on ebay for 5x wuts its worth.
The iphone's screen seems to crack pretty nice as well.
I hope changing the glass on the G1 isn't as frustrating as on the Iphone.

Not directing this to the message above, just saying.
Cracked screen replacement with compatible HW from third party --when?
I cracked the LCD of my G1 after about three weeks and have noted that neither PPCTechs nor MobileKangaroo have yet acquired a source for the replacement screen.
My understanding is that HTC currently charges what one thread in another forum (http://www.allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4226) quoted as "a minimum of $238.00" to make this repair.
I expect this repair to be offered soon by third parties for about $150, likely using a non-HTC screen product to replace the damaged one.
Has anyone heard any reports about forthcoming availability of such hardware? If so, then are there any non-HTC services to make the replacement?
yeah im looking for this too...i dropped mine and then proceeded to step on it day two with the phone.

This waht i found out
so have the same issue and this is what I found out
so from my understanding there are 2 part to the lcd the outer glass touch sensor and the inner lcd. if the the screen is just cracked and you can see the image the u have to replace both. attached are the part descriptions fromt he g1 service manual. and below is a link of a site that sells them, but for some reason they sell the touch scrren with the outer bezel making it cost more. i called htc to order just the touch sensor glass but they said the dont sell replacements, they just fix em

I contacted the seller of the screen and he/she told me that It's only the screen. If the G1 cracks It's the digitizer glass that cracks first. Then if you are unlucky the screen cracks as well. I managed to only crack the digitizer glass. The screen beneath is totally fine. Unfortunately removing the glass from the digitizer plastic was very painful and I managed to wreck the flat cable of the digitizer so that's beyond repair. Now I tried to disassemble the whole phone but I got stuck at removing the housing. First I had problems with the Torx bits. I have some Torx bits in my sets but the lowest I got was T8. I had to buy a cellphone bits set with a lot of different types of bits. It had Torx all the way down to T4. The T5 and T6 was what I needed. There are 4 T5 to remove and one T6. I have inserted the sharp plastic between the housing and the top case and released all hooks but it seems the front and back part of the housing of the phone is dead stuck.
You have to open the whole damn phone from the back to get to the inside of the screen. Why the screen housing uses standard Philips is also beyond me. I have lots of bad experience with standard Philips screws. The heads always get bad after a while of screwing. I have yet to have a problem with Torx.

Digitizer replacement

hey, i have scratched my digitizer panel and i was thinking of replacing mine with one from ebay for about £20, anyone any throughts on this, or instructions showing how hard or easy it is!!?? as the scratch is slightly annoying so im thinking replace it then get a screen protector fitted
http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/htc-touch-diamond2/
have a look here
i've broken mine (digitizer) and orange give me a "phone standart exange" (car we say it in english ??) for 130€ so i'll get a new phone with new warranty start date...
cheers for the diagram, i would have to kill mine as it i wouldnt have a door step exchange it would go off to the htc repair centre and they would see the hard spl etc, its no biggy for me to change the digitizer to be honest, just wish i wasnt so careless with it!!
I love how easy HTC phones are to dissasemble. I need to buy the front housing. I dropped my phone 5 times really bad while in Greece over the summer and the front bezel of my phone looks like it was in a war. The digitizer and all are still perfect. Just the bezel is dented, scratched, and chipped a lot.

Broken Screen

Hi all,
I have a HD2 and some numpty decided running a shopping trolley into my leg would be fun... the result, I have a broken screen.
The actual damage appears to only be superficial, I can still use the touch screen and the phone is in full working order but the glass has cracked.
I've been looking online and all I can find is a replacement digitizer... I am wondering if anyone know that this is what I need or not?
Regards
Ben
If the touchscreen still works then you don't need to replace the digitizer. You only need the glass part, but separating the digitizer from the glass and replacing it is a very difficult process and you would probably be better off getting a whole new screen assembly instead.
if the touch screen still works then in theory you just need a new piece of glass, not a digitizer (which is a thin plastic sheet).
problem is whether or not you can get the old digitizer off thee broken glass without damaging it.

Do you know of anywhere that sells the full set up?

Anyone know anything about this? I really need to get it fixed quickly
Found something on Mobilefun (check google cant paste links)
Would that be suitable?
Its the glass display and digitizer?
If you want to try to do it yourself these official HTC repair videos may help.

I suppose I could do it myself but I'm really looking at prices of parts before I take it to some phone shop, I would have my insurance cover it but my bank are being arses about it...
That way if they say its 150.00 then I can say ahhhh na....

You have a premium debit account that insures your phone?
yeh, however they claim I never registered it even though I have provided them proof of my telephone call...
Not impressed but I would rather put that behind me closing the account with them and moving banks
and how far into the process do you have to go before you take off the glass section of the phone I can see it seperate at the end but I didnt see whem it was taken off
ta B
this is not really related to repairing your own broekn hd2, but it's for sure youtube gave it to me as a related video to the HD2 reassemble:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db7pKjUrNXQ
I loved it, every bit of it.
I have a Natwest Premium account and I wouldn't trust them with my phone insurance as far as I could throw them. The £10 I spend a month on my O2 insurance is worth it, i've claimed 2-3 times in the last 4 years, and they have bought the new one to my door and taken the pieces of my old ones away, job's a goodun!
And as for your question I haven't a clue if I am honest, I have never disassembled a HD2 before. Thank God.

New HD2 Display Case?

Hello guys,
today my hd2 fell on the floor and the display cracked. the lcd and touchscreen are still working fine, even in the area where its cracked.
Is there a chance just to replace only the plastic case on the lcd? Or do i have to completly renew it?
Thanks!
Nope, sorry.
There's no plastic display on the HTC, nor anything plastic. The LCD is soldered to the digitizer and normally both should be replaced. They cost around 100$, and the replacement is about 200$ in the HTC center. You do the math, it's the price for a sec hand HD2. Otherwise, you can buy and change the digitizer (costs around 50$). But this is a very delicate operation to do by our own -you have to cut the LCD from the cracked digitizer and do many other things. As someone have said for some other reason "it is an easy operation, but if you have no experience in soldering, do not try to learn it on your laptop motherboard". So, your choice is between repairing it in HTC for 200$ and "repairing" it some other service for 100$, with questionable quality and voiding your warranty.
As you may guess, I have walked that road already. My HD2 was 1 week old. After some sleepless nights (as I was wondering what to do AND because the "perfectly working cracked screen" had cut my fingers) I sold it 100-120€ under the second hand market price and found a new one. That's also my advice to you. I.e. the first one. The second one is to buy a silicon cover for your next HD2.

broke my screen!

Let a buddy hold my phone and my luck kicked in, he dropped it. It was a very light fall and only have it 2 cracks on the edge and one hairline Crack across the screen. Phone works fine and I can see and touch everything. I've heard it's pricey to replace the screen on this thing because the screen assembly is one piece? Meaning I can't just buy the glass? Any advice or helpful links to reputable sites would be greatly appreciated. I've always just bought a new phone when I Crack my screen but this phone cost too much to just sell off for cheap. Thanks in advance
I need some help guys. No repair shop will touch the phone without replacing the glass and lcd and charging $399. I've seen multiple people claim to have changed the glass only and looking online that part isn't expensive at all. If anyone can confirm their success I may make the attempt to do it my self. I've already spent $400 on this phone so I'd like to spend as little as possible to fix it
Called every shop I could and all said it would he anywhere from 350-400 for the whole lcd assembly. I asked every store (in my state and neighboring state) if they could just replace the glass and all said no. So my question is if anyone reading this has a link to a reputable site to get the lcd assembly, under $270 if possible. And lastly, if I buy the necessary tools and watch videos, what's the chances of messing up the phone replacing the WHOLE lcd assembly, if I've never used a heat gun to remove glass? I've replaced the lcd assembly on my lg g2 but the back being plastic eliminated the need for any heat. I'm lost and don't want to spend $400 more.
No way to replace only the glass without risking damage to the AMOLED screen or digitizer. The screen is glued together, and a slight force will cause the screen to shatter. If you want to take that risk, you can go ahead and look up a tutorial, but it seems to be very difficult to only replace the glass and not the entire assembly(Thats why repair shops don't do them as the chance of failure is too high)

What's the cheapest option? Buy the whole lcd assembly and change it my self? Or pay samsung and wait? I bought this second hand from a guy who come to find out still owed payments so no insurance route is possible. I'd have to send in my phone and wait

Well, cheapest option is to do as you said, replace the glass. But if you fail during the process, your only bet would be to replace the whole assembly, and even if you had warranty, that would be completely voided. So if you are going to replace the assembly anyway, might be worth a try to separate the glass, and replace only the glass. And if it fails, you can just replace the entire assembly. But if you plans to send it to Samsung anyway, I would suggest you to do that without any diy modification to the device. If you are planning to buy the assembly, make sure you get a genuine OEM screen. I saw a lot of fake China lcd assembly, and S7 have amoled at much better resolution.
I had a S6, and display while glueing? itself off, cracked the whole amoled screen completely. And Edge is even more dangerous. So all You can do is to pretty much either replace it Yourself (not too difficult if You ask me) but You will eventually make it not waterproof anymore. And You might break something while fixing it(like the paint or the back panel, although paint 90%) and then You will have to pay even more. Or just take it to repair service, pay.. I don't know. 50-100$ more and get a professional repair without any risk. And if it's going to be made by Samsung, You still might have waterproof phone after that. So I guess You should take it to a repair service. 50-100$ more, but trust me. You will most likely mess up the pain and ruin Your phone visually. As well as You will need to buy tiny screw drivers, some flat plastic tool, and adhesive tape. And sometimes using a hair dryer to open the back, will destroy some components inside. So be careful with that as well.
Or sell Your friends kidneys and pay for the repair
This sucks dude. I could literally purchase a nexus 6 for less than the price to fix this phone. I've looked at every phone out right now and nothing catches my eye like this one. I'd almost opt to buy the 3t before spending 400 to have a shop repair this one
If ur friend has insurance maybe they would pay for it. If not.
A new screen costs around 200$ from ebay or etrade supply. Those one come even without a samsung logo like the models in asia. Which imo looks super cool. If you a that screen transfering the old stuff isn't that hard. And there are many tutorials online. Maybe you could split? I mean he dropped it even if it's on accident he could give like 100$ then you have to spend 100$.
You could sell ur S7 edge. Trust me if it's just cracked and everything else is working you will find someone that buys it. In Germany you could get something between 250€~ 300€ for that. And then you spend again maybe 200€ and get a new or used one thats in good condition.
There are few options that you have. I wouldn't go to repair shops because they are often overpriced and don't treat ur stuff well.
And one last thing. Forget about replacing only the glas because that is impossible.
So if I buy the whole lcd assembly, all I need to do is heat up the back, cut the adhesive with a guitar pick, remove screws and unhook the connectors and replace?
yes exactly like that. like i said there are a ton of guides like on ifixit or on youtube. bur instead of a guitar pick i would you a playing card or pokemon card or something. the guitar pick or metal tools can scratch the backplate and the "sticker".
