TomTom voice issue - HD2 General

Hello everybody,
I'm posting on the board because I've searched a lot but till now I've not found a solution.
I've installed the TomTom 7.916.9192 and all works fine.
I've a strange problem with the default italian voice.
It will "truncate" the first letter when a phrase is pronunced.
So for example if it says:
"Tra 300 metri girate a destra"
it pronunces:
"ra 300 metri girate a destra"
It truncates the "T" letter.
I've tried to change the voice and I have the same issue.
I've tried the TomTom 7.915.9186 version and I have the same issue.
There is someone that has the same issue?
I've installed the tomtom on SD card.
The same app on my HTC TyTN II works fine.
Any help, please?

Noone has the same issue or a solution to this???

Never had this problem; but TomTom voice direction can use a lot of internal memory and could be affected if there is radio transmission at the same time. If possible, terminate data connection and stop any other programs running in memory before starting TomTom.

Hello Stephen,
I use TomTom in my car so I've not other apps in memory and there is no data connection.
So I have no idea what to do.
It's a noisy to listen to "truncated" directions...

TomTom - GPS receiver with short memory?

Hi,
I've trawled the forum and I've followed all the TomTom setup procedures. The Problem is they seem to be for people who can't get TomTom working at all. I can get it working, just awkwardly.
Once I pair with my GPS receiver and go into TomTom i can get a connection. However when i quit TomTom and turn off the GPS it seems to forget. Next time I turn it on I don't get a connection.
The way I understand TomTom is that it seems to wait for the GPS receiver to contact the phone. This seems odd as I would have thought the phone would be the one to initiate contact.
Anyway my GPS receiver just seems to forget what phone it was connected to. TomTom obviously isn't forgetting the port, windows obviously isn't forgetting the pairing. But Every time I use it I have to re-pair the receiver (thus reminding the receiver of the phone it's supposed to be bonded to). It's beginning to drive me a bit insane.
Anyone else have this issue? Perhaps it's to do with my incoming and outcoming ports? Hopefully someone has already solved this? Not seen any references to it anywhere.

Hello,
Which version of Tomtom are you using ? The last one (5.21) ? If not, try to upgrade and try again.
Yep 5.2 latest release.
I was hoping upgrade would fix it but alas no.

Don't mean to be picky, but 5.2 or 5.21?
I've held off installing TTN on my Wizard, as it works fine on my iPAQ 4700, I have a cradle for that, and according to ttcode, my current device is actually my old 3970, not the current iPAQ... Last week, I had a couple of hour drive to do, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. After an email exchange with TomTom support (who were more helpful than I'd originally given them credit for), I had a new activation code for the Wizard. Here's what I did, from a fairly recent hard reset with no previous TTN install whatsoever. Skip the mail if it doesn't look helpful, but I'll detail my steps in case it helps anyone else...
Although I believe the PC install is mended in 5.21 I copied the map and voice cab files from the CD to my SD card and installed them from there. The GPS drivers and main app I installed from the download I got from the TomTom support site by running the setup util on my PC. Once everything was installed, I moved the maps which seemed to finish up in a sub-directory on the card to the root of the card.
I paired the GPS (my old Emtac BT one) and selected serial port profile. I tried all the offered serial ports in the "Other BT GPS" list in TTN but none worked. Then I went to 'COM Ports' in Comm Manager/Bluetooth Settings and selected "New Outgoing Port". I picked the GPS from the list of paired SPP devices, and it created a new BT COM port on COM6. That definately hadn't been in TTN's list of BT com ports before, but is now there in the list with about half a dozen others. I selected that in the "Other BT GPS" list of BT ports, and TTN connects to the GPS each time.
As I said, I'd recently hard reset the device to try and prove a problem with my BT car-kit soit's quite possible the clean install was the secret, but try creating a new outgoing COM port against the GPS and see if TT remembers that...

Which?
There are 2 general ways to set it up, 1 works 100% (i use it so know it does ) 1 i dont use and have never tried so may well work in the reverse direction and be causing you errors.
The way i set up tomtom; pair the BT GPS. Open an OUTGOING port to the BT GPS, set my GPS as OTHER (wired/cable) NEMA device (NOT bluetooth) in TTN5. now my tomtom connects to the bluetooth, not the otherway round. This method has thrown up no errors for me at all.
If you have followed the reg edit/hack to show the GPS page in connections then i dont know how the settings differ and the possible results this could have on connection issues.
Let us know which way you are going
I have the exact problem as BigDamHero. Each time I wanna use TTN, I need to delete the previously paired BT GPS and then pair it again, otherwise the TTN will just say No GPS Device. I use TTN v5.21 and Wizard with Windows Mobile 5. I tried my BT GPS device on my brother's PDA which runs on Windows Mobile 3, and it connects like a gem every time. I am also looking if anyone has solved this issue, cos it is tedious re-pairing every time.
Had the same problem until 5 mins ago! Found an explanation in another thread, but only in Dutch..
Here's how to do it:
Turn on GPS
Activate bluetooth on device, go to BT parameters, delete previous pairing like you're used to
Create new pairing, choose GPS, enter passkey, check Serial port in services, go to COM ports and add outgoing port (e.g. COM6) like you're still used to
Add an incoming port too (e.g. COM7) <-- Here's the trick!
Set your GPS apps to use COM6 (the outgoing one)... and here you are! This time it will work, you can turn off GPS and device bluetooth, turn on again and it will connect by itself.
If you want a bit more you can activate GPS panel, set program port to COM8 (then you will have to use this in your apps) and COM6 as hardware port.
Everything works fine now!
hey man, wot a coincidence....i also just read that post which had the dutch explanation.....BUT however, it's not working for me.

I did everything in the list except for creating the incoming port and it still works everytime (I know that's no consellation to you). I wonder if something else you've installed, or the way you installed the app is causing the problem? Is it worth a hard reset and trying the entire install on a clean wizard?
Dox
A friend didn't need the incoming port either. I believe it has something to do with the GPS, as he has a different brand than me.
With mine, before adding the incoming port if I started an app without erasing/redoing the pairing before I would get a notification saying "Navman GPS wants to connect" and asking me to pair. It would keep coming every 10 seconds whatever I did.
BigDamHero, what brand / model of GPS is it?
Maybe we can see if anybody here, or over on pocketgpsworld has been able to make the same combination work and if so, what they had to do to get it to fly...
Dox.
well, tomtom was the very first thing I installed when I got my new vario. it was only after I got tomtom fully working (but still need to re-pair everytime), then I installed a couple of simple Card games.

A quick glance at pocketgps suggests others are having similar issues. There's a thread here that suggests leaving it a while, and I seem to remember other GPS issue threads saying power up the GPS and let it get a fix before starting TTN. A more detailed probe round the forum will probably show more of the same.

I've just flashed my Qtek 9100 to a new ROM, (the O2 one), and since then I've been getting this same problem. With my previous ROM everything worked fine. I was able to turn of either my PDA or GPS, and they would always auto-reconnect in a few seconds. Looks to me like something broke during one of the ROM changes. Which ROM versions does everyone with/without this problem have?
By the way, I have a BT77 GPS.
Hey sorry for the total lack of reply. Been snowed under with exams.
Ok I tried most of what you guys said but didn`t work. BT ports aren't available to select as hardware ports.
However I have managed to solve it. The key was to pair the GPS, and create an UNENCRYPTED OUTGOING port. That's all. Previously I had encrypted ports outgoing and incoming. My GPS applet in control pannel is set to none so it,s nothing to do with that.
I don't know what my GPS is. Its unbranded. One of the cheap common ones.
Hope this helps some people with the same problem.

TomTom sound off when starting

Hi there,
Is there someone using TomTom Navigator 6.03 and experiencing the same strange thing I do?
Everytime I start TomTom the sound is off; the sound off icon is on screen. I have to tap Turn on sound in the preferences menu twice in order to have the sound turned on and to have the icon disappeared.
When I exit TomTom and start it again, the sound is turned off again.
Annoying and no idea how to fix that. Deleting the navigator.cfg didn't help.
MapSettings.cfg in the current Active map folder - is it set to read only per chance? - Mike

Hi. I am having exactly the same issue here with TT. I've checked my mapsettings.cfg file and it's not read only...The only thing I can think of is it is because my map is installed on the microdrive, not an SD card
Any help appreciated too!
Merlin
Mapsettings.cfg is not read only and my maps (everything on TomTom) is installed on the Storage Card.
I have exactly the same installation running on my Touch as well, and no problems at all. Seems to be something on my X7500 then.... but what!!???
I am having exactly the same problems, it's been driving me potty! TT is installed on storage card, no idea whats causding it!
Same problem here...
However it started when I updated it from 6.01 back on my old Wizard. That worked properly. I did discover that you don't have to go to Prefs... you can get the sound back on by tapping the joystick to the right. Also, it doesn't happen when it's on AC power, but only on battery.

Not a bad workaround, just wish we could find what was causing this.
Just to clear things out, but who has this problem with official and legal versions of TTN 6.03? - E.g. has it something to do with cracked/patched versions?
Mine's legal...
Although I'm starting to regret messing with TomTom. Their customer service is awful. Unless your device is one the approximately 5 devices they officially support, they'll wash their hands of you if you call for help saying your device is "not compatible." I called for support on my Wizard, which to be exact was a Cingular 8125. That phone is not on their list of compatible devices, but its twin, the T-Mobile MDA, is on the list. I called and said I had an 8125 and they refused to help me. I hung up, called back, and said I had an MDA. They tried to help me, but when they didn't have an instant answer for me they just said, "Sorry, we don't have that problem on ours" and started spewing out useless canned knowledge base articles. For heaven's sake, the MDA and 8125 are the SAME PHONE! Also, don't tell them you have WM6, because WM6 is "not compatible." Basically, if you have to call TomTom support, lie through your teeth. I'm waiting for OnCourse Navigator, due out in October or November, and then I may abandon TomTom.
Just to compile information...
OK Let's see:
1) I got my TT6.03 legal with legal maps and I got the problem.
2) Running my old legal TT6.01 I didn't had the problem.
3) If I do it using Prefs I need to activate twice the sound in order to get the mute removed
4) I got the problem running on baterry, using the oficial car charger and using the wall charger. I got the problem all the time no matter what power source I'm using.
5) The "Move Joysting to Right" workaround works great. Thank you very much. That don't solve the problem but makes my live much easier.
So... that's the point. I'm running TT6.03 (legal) over WM5 ROM in spanish.
Best Regards,
mahjong
So.... resuming: it's TomTom Navigator 6.03 with the combination of the HTC X7500/Athena.
The problem isn't there while running 6.03 on a HP iPAQ hx4700, Qtek 9000 and HTC Touch.
I have 6.030 on WM6 English on my Athena and I don't have this problem...
I don't have this problem either. I'm using version 6.0
LOL !!!!
Ok man !!! Is your connection GPRS/EDGE/UTMS/HSDPA is online ?
Because if there's an active connexion Tomtom start allways with the sound off.
Try to disconnect before launching Tomtom

Then that goes for version 6.03 only. With 6.00 it didn't matter wether the data connection was active or not.
Anyway, I need to stick with 6.03 and live with the mute problem, since 6.03 can work with my voices stored on storage card (instead of MD) and performs a fix in only seconds (instead of 1 - 1,5 minute).
No sound after starting TT6.03
I have the legal version of TT6.03 and I have the problem too. I only have this problem when my phone is connected to the internet using gprs, umts or hsdpa. If their is no connection I do not have this problem. It also happens on other devices for instance the HP iPAQ 6340 and it is a know bug. TomTom know's about it. It will be solved in te next version.

BINGO!!! We got a winner here ladies and gentlemans.
Mine has the connection online all the time due to my push-mail solution (Blackberry Connect). I did some test shutting down Blackbery Connect before starting TT and "the problem" just gone.
Thank you. Anyway since I must have connection online all the time the "Joystick move to right" trick is great for me.
TomTom6 Sound
Guys great thread, I am glad to see someone else is struggling with this strange issue. Its really no big deal, its just annoying. Any updates on this issue yet?
And here was me thinking it was my *cough* test *cough* version. Loving the 'fix' taa v much. I might have to write a mortscript that recycles the data connection, rotates the screen and starts TT.
tomtom 6.02-7910 works fine
I also was having problems with tomt 6.032 but the problems does not seem to exist in tomtom 6.02-7910

TomTom voice prompts cut short

Hi Everyone,
Since experimenting with various voice command programs that work over bluetooth, the voice prompts in TomTom are truncated (After 300 yards......??) I have flashed several roms, formated my sd card and made a completely clean install of TomTom with no files that appeared on the original card, and still have the problem.
I suspect it is a registary problem.
my questions are:
How to fix
How can this happen when I have different roms from several chiefs?
Many thanks to all on this forum
Ireally hoped someone could help me with this
I was experiencing a similar behavior from Mobile Navigator 6, I'd only get the final part of the voice direction.
Changed sound quality setting for A2DP with Trinity Hacks, and now it's working ok.
No joint stereo, and high sound quality settings worked for me.
Thanks for the reply, will try.
Hi,
I have the same TT voice problem: "after ..." then nothing !!!
I 've tried with Tomtom V6.00, 6.03 but I have the same problem.
My ppc phone is LG KS20 on WM6
+++ Important note: I used TT V6.00 with my old HTC S110 running on WM2003SE and I don't have this problem. But when I changed to KG KS20 (wm6), I get this probleme with the same maps, same version of tomtom (same installation: tt6ifalleni.cab). Tested with 2 maps v675.1409: FR_plus & Western_Europe -> same voice problem.
Please help !!!
I never did get this problem sorted, tried several roms with no success. Best of luck to you!!
Note that I don't use bluetooth, I use the phone speaker !!!

TOMTOM 7 Voice Problem

Hello all
I am not sure if this is the right place for this thread but we shall see.
I have a MDA 3 (TYTN2) with TOMTOM 7.450 and Maps.
The problem I am getting is that everthing works fine except the voice.
I get incomplete commands. In a car this is not too bad however, on a motobike then my PDA is in my pocket present a more difficult problem. I use the headphone but I do not get complete command.
Can any one help, does anyone have a copy where the commnad do not brake.

Hello
Does any one have any informaiton regarding this matter. I am sure it is a pressing one.
I have no answer. I only have one voice wish I had more...maybe if we had some more we could change it and see if that works...
Try another voice
Switch to another voice profile and see if it does the same thing.
the devices are pretty similar, but I'd still try and post this in the right forum, this is the Titan area (AKA sprint Mogul, Verizon xv6800 etc...) and you have a TYTN II (AKA Kaiser)
Sorry about that
Can the admin move the topic over please.

TomTom Navigator 7 - Bluetooth Has Been Disabled Error

Hello Everyone,
I have recently become a member of your excellent forum after browsing and learning for many months as a guest.
I have a small question to ask, I have tried looking everywhere else in the relevant locations to see if it has been raised, but with no success.
It's simply this - I have a Polaris running TTN7, properly installed, running very well indeed.
But, if I try to use any of the TomTom services on the menu - i.e Weather, TomTom Buddies, Safety Cameras etc... I get the message in the top right hand corner that says 'BlueTooth has been disabled'
I have tried every tweak, reboot and re-install that I can manage, but it's still there.
I know all the TomTom services do work on it, as when I first installed TTN7 to the device, the BlueTooth was set to ON and everything worked fine.
The problem only occurred when I launched TTN whilst the BlueTooth was set to OFF.
Any help would be very gratefully received,
With Thanks,
Simon Logan
Problem Resolved. Solution posted to assist others.
I have solved this particular problem.
If you have difficulty updating your maps via the MapShare update service, you might be tempted to update another TomTom unit with exactly the same version Map (e.g GO910 or GO 510) and then copy across to your PDA's map the following 4 relevant files;
MapServerPatch.dat
MapUserPatch.dat
ServerLineIndex.dat
ServerNameIndex.dat
If you do this it will generate the error originally described.
So, always best to update your map by getting MapShare working correctly on your Polaris instead of copying what seem to be identical files across.
Hope that this assists someone out there.
