10 Things I love about my HTC HD2 - HD2 General

As an answer to all the negativity I am reading on these forums all the time, and which really makes me tired... For Chr*sts sake, stop whining and complaining and being so pessimistic about this phone and ENJOY it!
Anyway, 10 things I love about my HTC HD2, hope more will follow
1) The big screen: really a big + compared to all my other phones I had in the past
2) "Touch" -> Haven't had this before on my phones and it's a real pleasure! Gets some time to get used to it, but if you are, you don't want nothing else!
3) The speed: well what is there to say?!?
4) Windows --> Since I have a Windows rather than an Apple laptop, I think this is a big + for me
5) The great possibilities to tweak your phone as you want it
6) The dozens of Applications there are
7) XDA-forum and all the fellow LEO owners which are a lot of help
8) Great Graphics
9) (Universal) USB-cable to charge it and connect it to your computer
10) All of the above

Nice twist on the "usual" type of anti-winmo post. Refreshing to see!

Yes mate - I could not agree more. Rather than being an out-of-the-box-this-is-how-it-is device, it's pretty much a blank canvas where you can paint whatever the hell you like!

Yes mate, I totally agree, I love my HD2, its such a fab phone. I have no problems with mine at all......However I can sympathise with those that have these problems, it must be frustrating to say the least.

Yes mate - there are some issues, but we'll overcome them, and the benefits DEFINITELY outweigh them!
Incidentally, please don't start any more posts with "yes mate". That's MY trademark lol.

How's about 'Yes my friend' is that more appropriate for your tastes! lol!

One point I would add in it's favour (10a), it's not an iPhone

Yeah, I like that. Just don't push me. lol

Hmm,
I hope you don't get someone come onto your thread and moan about how tired they are to see ALL these threads PRAISING the HD2 and asking for a Moderator to close it.
Strange, that's what seems to happen in the so called "negative" threads (search around and you will see what I am talking about).
Why we can't just don't respect all views, good and bad, I will never know.
WB

Im totally loving my HD2 too
After tweaking it a bit its truelly the best phone I have ever owned and I dont really see how it can be improved on.
I think the best thing apart from the magnificent screen is the capacitive screen. My last 3 phones have all had slide out keyboards and I was very apprehensive about going to the HD2 but the word recognition is amazing and I can now type faster than on any of the keyboards I have had.
Also going from a resistive screen to a capacitive screen is a godsend as I no longer have to get out a stylus everytime I want to do something or press HARD with my finger 3 or 4 times before anything happens.
Camera with the quality tweaks and video camera recording at 640x480 in mp4 is a pleasure and the sharpest picture I have seen. but then as all my previous phones have been HTC theres absolutely no comparison LOL. Loving the touch screen focus and very quick capture time.
I have the games I like installed and running smoothly, I have my applications that I need running without any poblems and christmas is going to be good this year when someone starts showing off their 'new' iphone 3gs and I turn on this bad boy
If/when HardSPL is completed and we can start putting cooked Roms on there wont be anything which evens comes close.

2nd that!!!!

I was going to add why I love my Leo but was worried the thread might attract the attention of Sunking101. A fate worse than death seeing the impact he's had on other threads so far.
I've stuck with HTC because of XDA - it's as simple as that. And the Leo had 5 key specs that were critical to me:
- solid GPS implementation;
- accelerometer
- proximity sensor
- compass
- cut and paste text from day 1
For those with patience (meaning the release of hacked SPL) the first 4 elements add serious oomph to one beast of a phone package. No one has really integrated these functions yet (e.g. compass and GPS or proximity and accelerometer) but when they do we could have some really interesting results.
Plus, I've always tinkered with my electronics so a WinMo phone is a pandora's box - and I mean that in every sense!

Multi-touch feature is my favorite .

Yep. I like this thread
Yeah ...., I like this initiative.
First of all. I love xda forum. I could not imagine my life in the world of mobile devices without the input of all the great people here.
But ... I agree on the overall negative mist hanging over most threads.
I have owned many mobiles overthe years and none was without any flaws.
I have owned many new stuff and none was without any flaws. Cars, bikes, televisions, computes and even girlfriends.
I now that all of our complaints are massive input to the producers of our beloved devices. So keep up the good work.
But ... a thread like this sometimes is SUPERB to let everybody know haw great our gadgets are.
My HD2 is my 6th HTC devices and with every ne one I love it more.
Thanks for this thread!!!!!

Then that's my reasons why I love the HD2:
1) it multitasks
2) it can queue notifications in an effective way
3) it can display anything on the homescreen
4) it serves as a USB storage device
5) it doesn't need buggy desktop software to sync with
6) it has a great camera with flash
8) it has a big WVGA screen, no waste of space for a stupid round button
9) it has all the important settings available without hacking it
10) it offers choice of browsers, media players etc.
11) it can download stuff from the web
12) it has a file explorer
13) it serves as modem or router without any problems or additional costs
14) all of the above and a lot more (speed, build quality, glass touchscreen, ultra fast GPS fix, ...)

15. I do not have to beg at the feet of a monopoly in Cupertino, CA, to make changes to my phone, and I do not need anyone's approval to install the applications I want without "jailbreaking" my phone.
16. I can install the latest improvements and bug-fixes without putting my phone back into Apple jail.

My favourite feature.... Just look at it. Best looking phone I've seen. And it's so thin!

Did a clean out today and gathered all the old HD accessories and the phone into a box for ebay.
Started the HD (which still had a good charge after nearly five weeks).
Was amazed at how slow it is compared to the HD2.
I do love the speed on the HD2. I've seen this also in the last few days with the new Opera beta 2 which is super fast.
Oh, and the screen is rather good !!

Getting rid of MS Bluetooth stack was one of the biggest plus for me.
For some reason MS stack both on PC and WM has a low pitched noise with stereo audio. It was reduced by tweaking on the provious devices I had (cruise, hd,diamond) but never disappeared.
With HD2, thew AD2P quality is perfect out of the box with my headphones and this is one of the best features of the device. Perfect quality with AD2P (perhaps with the right headphones)

i pitty all those iphone users that can do, only things that mama apple lets them do, to THEIR mobile... hahaha
i really love my HD2 for every single feature that it has in it.... cant think of a more complete package on a phone at the moment right now... it has everything u need and then some!!

HD is over-rated ?

OK at the risk of starting a flame war I want to ask for some objective feedback on the HD. I tried the HD in a shop today for about 20 minutes and I was quite disappointed. (I have a HTC tytn so I used my experience over the last 18 months with that as a reference.). My brief conclusions
(a) The screen is big with a lot of detail as everyone says but its not as bright as the iPhone, G1 or blackberry Storm. Also the blacks are a bit murky so the constrast is not as good as the iPhone, G1 or the Storm.
(b) The interface felt very "laggy" with lots of freezing. (I've subsequently found a thread here on XDA-Developers where there are many compaints of freezes for several seconds - the unit I tried in the shop belonged to the Sales guy and had been up and running in less than 1 day with nothing extra installed on it - I ended up showing the sales guy how to do some things ! ) Certainly TF3D was no way as "slick" as the iPhone or the G1. When trying to browse the web the HD I perfered the G1 when if on the HD I could see more !
(c) One of my requirements is basic operations should be possible with one hand. The lack of hardware buttons and a D-pad / trackball or scroller seems to make that difficult? For example, it was difficult to take a decent close up picture of someone as you have to press the screen which moves the HD and so causes a loss of focus. On the third attempt I gave up trying to take a decent picture.
(d) For such a big screen TF3D makes inefficient use of the screen. I was particularly disappointed with the music player. I got the impression that rather than focus on functionality HTC really wanted to make things look good.
Overall I was dissappointed. I really want to get rid of my Wm5 based Tytn but it looks like I might have to look at something else
Please convince me otherwise !
Can those of you who've had real experience (I.e. for than a couple of days - where you are in the honeymoon period) provide some feedback on the HD?
not going to convince you to change. i suggest you stick with the Tytn and you'll save yourself a lot of second guessing and heart ache. based on a-d above, the HD is not for you.
I played with the iPhone for 20 minutes and hated it... But when I tried the HD for about 20 minutes I loved it.
What the hek every now and then someone comes and start his own comparison of HD to Iphone!!!!
IPHONE for many of us is Cr***ap ...
You have already started the thread by painting such as prefect picture of iPhone. If your requirements are better met by that, just go get yourself an iPhone. Everyone person's requirements are different. For me, iPhone does not meet my need and HD does. If you want to know why, go to this thread and read every post there by myself.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443900
No point in flaming him (I have an Hermes as well and have a lot of questions about HD vs Touch Pro for instance)
It is really interesting to read people's opinion, may it be positive or negative to help many potential users chose with all cards in hand
Stick with your TyTn .... and wait for the next year 2009 devices.
For sure HD broughr fresh blood to the WinMo device, but thats not enough.
I am pretty sure, 2009 will be very interesting for mobile device (WinMo 6.5, Tegra?)
I have N95 for 15 Months and i thought i would never change phone again till iPhone 3G came out so i decided to upgrade.
At the same time my brother just bought Touch Diamond and I have to admit that I really hate the Diamond since the first few mins of playing with it. Laggy.. Sloppy.. Jerky.. Slowly.. Whatever u called it, Diamond has it all.
But now my brother decide to get a Touch HD, hoping that it will lift up our feeling some way some how, and he is right.
He got a phone last week and i have to say.. "It is in a different league with the iPhone"
Now i have to order another one for myself. Hope it will arrive soon ^^
Sorry but you are not right
By the way - the iPhone is indeed better because of the better OS
But also the HF Screen has not such a good contrast and has moires from different view angles ...
when you work for some days with the HD the iPhone screen shows pixels.
The HD screnn with th perfect resolution is much smoother
The HTC Touchflow SW is after a long time on devices quite fast ans very good ( not as good as iPhone OS ) - the only lag is that many functions are missing and HTC does not offer updates regularly to older devices.
annoying & ridiculous...
sorry ... BUT it really IS annoying to read so many threads where people are just complaining that the HD 'doesnt meet this and that and...' - whats the use in it ?! Everyone needs different things in a device, you wouldn't want my kind of shoes or trousers or car or whatever!!
So I don't give a s*** what anybody else has to say about the HD - I tested it for MYSELF, I found it to be excellent for me, I bought it two weeks ago, I do lots of flatrate-HSDPA'ing, business use 12 hours/day, permanent exchange sncy'ing, blablabla...my HD truely rocks. Simply said: theres nothing *I* miss - if you do, buy something you like.
First of all. Thanks for the feedback so far. I'm sorry that some of you seem to be overly defensive. What I am trying to get to the bottom of is that my short experience of the HD is at odds with the many many reviews of the HD on the web.
There are endless comparsions with the iPhone but I don't recall any mentioning the screen being not as bright or that the HD has a very "laggy" interface. The point is that the reviews hold up the iphone as the benchmark and generally give the impression that the HD is close in terms of touch sensitivity and better in terms of screen. I was therefore surprised when i got my hands on a unit to not get that impression in those areas. I am aware of the fact that the Iphone can't multi-task, has no FM radio, has locked down applications, video recording problems, poor support for MS office attachments etc etc. So I'm not that interested in it - its too restricted for me!
So what I'm trying to understand is why my, albeit, short experience is different.
So the questions remains guys.
Can you load a theme or change a setting to change the way the screen looks ?
(EagleSteve - I'm just reading that 49 page thread you refered to and I note the äuthor of the thread states - "I think Touchflo is just too "black" for me, not sure if it will run with a brighter skin or not, but I like the way PocketPlus makes a device look, much brighter" - So that suggests a possible fix to my concern of the screen being not as bright as I expected)
Is the lack of hardware buttons actually a problem or does the large touch screen make it a non issue in practice?
Do you have laggy behaviour ? Is there some App or setting which everyone loads to get rid of the "laggy" behaviour? For the me the real show-stopper is probably the laggy behaviour - I need to know how much of a problem it is in practice.
Thanks for the feedback
I don't know... my unit isn't laggy at all, tflo is flying, the only issue I have is about video playback. But this is going to be solved with the next CorePlayer release, I hope.

The laggy behaviour obviously depends on what ROM you have.
I for myself do not experience lags on my device.

U seems to like the iPhone so much but y u worry about this issue? It seems like u trying to point out that Touch HD lack of D-Pad and button so its useless.
What about iPhone? 1 lonely button is that enuff for u?

Hi Owen,
Well I'm not a HD user, I actually have a raphael. but my experience with this device was similar to yours when I first got it. In my experience my device was very laggy to start with. I ended up downloading a ROM and the speed is beautiful, I'm sure the HD will have the same and when this device is around as long as the raphael you will have some amazing ROMs if you already don't. Although it does frustrate me that our performance issues have to be solve by personal developers (who by the way do a marvellous job). So if you are happy flashing a ROM you will certainly get to a point you are happy with in regards to performance. it may however take you some time to do so
In regards to the button aspect, which was going to be my primary focus, the raphael has a few more buttons and a scroll wheel device. Having the extra buttons is frustrating, I have only had minimal (if any) use for them and only feel like they take up room on the device. If you are happy to not have a keyboard I wouldn't be too concerned on the lack of buttons.
Cheers

I bought the HD because I was sure it was the right device to answer my needs. One month after I'm still convinced it was a good choice.
But I'm even more convinced that there's just no interest in trying to convince other users that my phone is the one they need.
A consequence is the following: I'm not interested in being convinced that the HD was not good enough for me
The Touch HD has a very bright screen. Did you alter the settings, to turn off automatic backlight?
I don't find my HD laggy at all especially with the tweak that optimises the cache. Even out of the box I didn't find the HD laggy. Afterall it's only a phone and not your desktop PC...
Screen looks nice enough in my opinion. I can't convince you that it isn't over rated as after having one for a few weeks I feel it is nothing special.
For the people that say there is no point complaining, this is true if you don't own one I suppose. Although if a person did buy one because of the hype and it doesn't live up to it then I think they have every right to say why they feel they don't like it. I spent 500 quid on mine and I should be able to criticise things about it I don't like at that point.
If a person is happy with his device that's great but others that don't share that feeling are entitled to their views too.
Like I said, each has his own need and preference, so I can only summarise for you who iphone is not worthy of comparison to hd from my viewpoint only.
1. I like the hd screen and not iphone screen: because HD screen has the right level of sensitivity and supports stylus. Stylus is a critical requirements not only it is more user friendly to me, but also because it supports hand writing. Screen brightness of HD is completely adequate under bright sunlight.
2. I need availability of tomtom or similar software. Iphone does not have an acceptable navigation software.
3 I need desktop class word, spreadsheet, and presentation editing software, which iphone doesn't have.
4.I need better software keyboard than that iphone offer and winmo platform offers that.
5.I cannot live with iphone's battery design because I'd been stuck without battery. I do not want the bulk of a mobile charger.
6. the breath and depth of software in iphone is still not there yet.
7. I prefer HD's bigger screen.
8. I like having more buttons in HD rather than just one in iphone.
9. I like being able to customise. You don't like black? No problem. Use something like spb mobile shell, or change the skin and background of tf3d.
10.I like to have lots of choices when come to firmware or ROM. You don't have that with iphone. The ability to improve is very limited.
11.I like FM radio, I like cut and paste, I like all the little things which HD can do and iphone can't.
I like the build quality of iphone. I like it's browser. I like it's smoothness in displaying web pages more than Opera mobile. I like its multimedia capability.
I almost got an iphone.
For me, iphone is a very sexy women, and the temptation to marry her is great. But if I want someone who can manage the household, bring up the kids well, wise with finance, and kind to people, HD is the plain Jane whom can deliver.

Xperia gripes. Help

I've had my xperia for about 3 days now, using it non-stop at home, on the go, etc.
I'm having a lot of mixed feelings: i like it, and disappointed in it at the same time.
Please enlighten me in each of the following.. help me learn to love the phone instead of regret it.
1) My biggest gripe: The form factor, the thickness, the small touchscreen embedded WITHIN borders as opposed to a front flat. Admit it.. it feels like a brick.
2) Lack of panels.. Lack of applications (look at apple's app store)
3) The responsiveness.. the overall phone is dodgy, menus take seconds to load, camera and its settings are slow, buttons and inputs are not instantaneous... I've an ipod touch for about more then half a year now, those who've experienced with Apple products know what I mean by 'immediate response' (and in NO WAY am i supporting apple, I am just doing this comparison to illustrate the difference of response)
All these gripes i would have set aside if the price tag was about $100 - $200 dollars CHEAPER. When I'm paying so much, I expect something decent :|
Now for my praises:
1) Biggest plus; It has windows live mail, and windows live messenger, something the iPhone will never have.
2) Panels CONCEPT.
3) The beautiful colors (xperia wall)
4) Keypad, lots of control/input: trackpad, d-pad, touchscreen & stylus
If you've read all that, In no way am i critcizing the xperia as a whole. It's my user-preference I speak with and individual opinion. I, for one, am bothered by all the gripes I have mentioned. I've searched for smartphones for a long time now and none has even PEAKED my interest besides the xperia and the iPhone. The problem is that the iPhone is out of the question because I can't get it. So my question is... What should I do? As in should i stay with the xperia, what can I do with the xperia to make me satisfied with it, etc.
Hey,
dude u need to flash a new ROM. Xperia 'out of the box' looks nice but doesn't work as well as it looks. once you've flashed a ROM it works nicer than it looks.
Im using agent_47 ROM...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512050
admittedly there are a few bugs every now n then but its nothing that eventually won't be fixed.
Dude there are loooaaddss of panels available. just search the forums. there are also loaaadss of apps available...you just have to find them. tomtom7, facebook, skype, super mario just to give some examples.
So in summary, find a ROM that you like and flash it
Adam
Thanks but it doesn't compensate for the fact that the phone is bulky with a screen embedded within borders. Even though the iPhone may be bigger in volume, at least it has a large screen (thats NOT in border) to make up for its size.
My issue is.. i feel no matter what I change about the software and interface, it'd still feel bricky in my hands, when getting a call; trying to touch the tiny buttons on the embedded screen with my thumbs -___-
What other third party panels could possibly benefit me? Aren't most of them just home screens, mobile shell, etc.
Panels I'd like to see include paralelling the apple app store; at least have the defaults like the facebook panel: twitter, youtube, notes, pocketoffice panel, dictionary, games, etc. Funny how advertisements show panels with different colours but none are remotely worthy to be put. I only have about 7 panels, and i even tolerated putting the fish and clock one.
arikado as adam18488 has said you need a new windows mobile rom.
Most of your Points are related to the Software of the Windows Mobile Computer Operating System.
The WinMo ROM that is shiped with X1 has heavy lags with video rendering.
You are not the only one who is disopointed with the OS on X1.
Iphone works out of the box -Apps store has loads and is v easy ...but you can't customise!
Xperia WILL dissapoint out of the box ...you need to make it yours -customise, tweak etc
If you are new at all this ....the last thing you should do is Flash a custom ROM imho
You need to read LOADS and start small with the tweaks
I was underwhelmed when I first got mine ...a couple of weeks of reading and trialling were quite frustrating (without this forum it would have been impossible)
About a month in I got it all set up the way I liked it ...8 months on I still LOVE it and have continued to make small tweaks (including upgrading the stock ROM twice -now on the current R3A & video works flawlessly BTW)
Take a look at threads like "post your today screen" and the like to see how wide the options are
The WIKI is a must, as are most of the Stickies

arikado,
Did you not at least feel the phone in person before buying it? You can't really whine now that you've bought the phone. It was your responsibility as a customer to ensure that everything about the phone met your expectations before you handed over the cash.
Should've done your homework first. If the phone feels like a brick to you, then even the Touch Pro 2 or even the N97 will feel like a brick because those are -huge- phones.
If you don't want a recessed screen, I strongly suggest the TouchHD, that's about it or wait for the next Xperia, or go with the HTC Hero, or HTC Magic.
Cheers.
Yes - we can't help you now with hardware issues. If you don't like the hardware you should not have bought it. Anyway:
If you are a fan of finger UI's then read about Mobile Shell 3.0. It allows you to do almost everything with your finger. There is also a cab available that imrpoves the responsibility :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485037&highlight=softtouch
Here you go: X1 SoftTouch.
Well..there are panels, but you are right - not as much as I would have liked!
And there are apps, but not as much because 800x480 screensize is rather new
to phones. Give them some time.
The "borders" around the screen you are taking about is a negative thing on that phone. But like already mentioned: swop with a Touch HD. It is more likely "your" kind of phone!

Orelsi reporting in .
1 - I don't mind the thikness, because you get a full keyboard. You can't beat that. The recessed screen is one of my major gripes as well, but it has one (only one lol) good thing going for it - when you drop it, the screen will not get damaged. I admit that it is a brick.
2 - Not true. There are some panels floating around. There are THOUSANDS of apps and games for WinMo and most of them are NOT like these:
http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2009/fortune/0907/gallery.dumbest_iphone_apps.fortune/index.html Just read and search .
3- Everything that you listed can be fixed by custom ROMs or tweaks of the system. My only advice is to read the "sticky" topics and then browse the forum for whatever you want.
My X1 has the regular firmware and is lightning fast thanks to massive tweaking and installing of useful apps.
If you can't find anything using the search function, feel free to ask the helpful people in this forum .
If you want a phone that works fine "out of the box" : got an Iphone but you will never be able to customize it
If you want a bigger screen: Got a Touch HD but no hardware keyboard, screen less responsive (my opinion), not really faster
If you want to keep your Xperia: learn about tweaking and flashing rom
My 2 centimes:
- Yes the firmware is painfully slow. This is really the major limitation of this phone out of the box.
- I have not yet flashed a custom ROM (on R2A) but am very hopeful that this improves the snappiness
- Buy SPB Mobile Shell 3.01. Outstanding software and well worth the price.
- After a couple weeks/months, I think most Xperiites ditch panels because they are slow and a fairly silly idea. Why press three times to run an application when you have the option to press only once?
- The hardware on this phone is superb and I think you will only come to appreciate it more and more. Bricks may not look the best, but they last a helluva long time.
Is it just me or am I the only one getting a bit bored of the iPhone fanboys repeating the "My iPhone/My mate's iPhone/My fashionista's iPhone is great, the X1 is crap, why?" question?
If you don't like it's size and shape, why buy one?
In regards to apps, typing "Windows Mobile Apps" into Google gets approx 292,000,000 results. Yes, a lot of these will be repeated/links to each other, but there are at least a few sites off the top of my head that can provide hundreds of *legally free* apps, let alone several that can provide lots of paid-for ones. "Oh but the Apple Store is one place" yes, we all get all of our purchases from the same shop. Unless you're a Tesco/Walmart fanboy also?
I must admit, it is a bit of a pain getting fluff and dirt out of the corners of the screen, but a lot less of a pain than smashing the screen like several of my iPhone loving mates have, especially on a thin-bodied device which depends on the screen to work...

Nope.
HERE is a possible fix for the screen being pushed into the phone - basicially what i noticed was that when i put a screen protector on it obvoiusly raised the screen so i was thinking - maybe if you put two screen protectors on ! it would be at optimum height! just a thought - i might try it

In regards to apps, typing "Windows Mobile Apps" into Google gets approx 292,000,000 results. Agreed, everything is down to personal preference, but the iPhone losers cannot stop claiming that their device is THE BEST!!! It obviously isn't and any objective man comparing it to a normal phone can see that. It is a glorified mp4 player and barely qualifies as a feature phone.
The attitude of being uneducated and tech illiterate, but still claiming that your device is the Jesus phone, is what annoys me.
Especially when people start posting about it at a WINMO forum. WTF seriously? Use it, enjoy it, but don't try to make it something it clearly is not. That is why the apple fanboys irritate me.
End of rant lolz .

No one ever accused you of being "objective".
1) My biggest gripe: The form factor, the thickness, the small touchscreen embedded WITHIN borders as opposed to a front flat. Admit it.. it feels like a brick.

Wrong, it feels like a luxury device. Even if the OS was a basic symbian it would still feel grand. Admit it...it feels like it's the ****.
The form factor is perfect. The thickness is actually pretty thin. The touch screen is not satisfactory.
2) Lack of panels.. Lack of applications (look at apple's app store)

Why are you complaining on something that is still being developed? You are one bull****ing fanboy.
Palm Pre > Lack of apps
Android > Lack of tethering @ apps
Apple > Applications are mostly games you turd, and apps are only foreground apps so what is the freaking point?
Look how manys apps that I have for my X1:
3) The responsiveness.. the overall phone is dodgy, menus take seconds to load, camera and its settings are slow, buttons and inputs are not instantaneous... I've an ipod touch for about more then half a year now, those who've experienced with Apple products know what I mean by 'immediate response' (and in NO WAY am i supporting apple, I am just doing this comparison to illustrate the difference of response)

I know what you mean, actually. I have to agree on this. Played with my brother's ipod touch.
All these gripes i would have set aside if the price tag was about $100 - $200 dollars CHEAPER. When I'm paying so much, I expect something decent :|

I think the X1 is worth 900 bucks, but I think it is unfair that the X1i version is a lot cheaper. ****ing bull****. Europeans are lucky!

If you aren't for being organized then get the iPhone...that's all I have to say
Even using apple's software is very inorganized and there is no way for me to mother****ing installed 3rd party schedule applications / alarm applications / automatic profile applications ...so iPhone is just a toy with a lot of games and foreground-only apps.
Xperia keeps me so organized... why? SPB Diary baby. Anyway, just get the Apple because I don't think you're the kind of guy who needs simple features only.
Just listen to me and get the iPhone 3GS and you will be happy.
My most used app is SPB Mobile Shell 3... and AE Button... try them out and it will boost your productivity...
i really loved the batt life of Xperia.. (coming from O2 Atom Life)

what can Leo do?

hi all
I'm curious that what can Leo do? After a lot of video of it to show how it's great..where are the strengths and weaknesses of it? Is it a really smart phone?
Thank for your all care!
there are plenty of reviews on the internet, read them.

care to explain what a smart function is
Yes what can it actually do?
HTC has blown us bigtime again.
It can´t do enything you expect it to do, exept looking really nice.
HTC cant expect us to always relly on XDA all the time.
This whole scenario reminds me of "the blackstone affair".
When I bought the blackstone I was convinced, after reading almost everything there were to read about it, it was the best phone ever made.
I was convinced this community would fix every flaw.
Everyboy just assumed the xda devs would fix things.
Ok, XDA have made blackstone better that it was at first, but its not the killerphone
I was expecting it to be.
Now after reading about Leo I get the same fealing.
I mean, were is the native multitouch support. I have read posts were people just assume xda will get that. It still have a GPS-lag. No USB-host, wich everyone seam to just say: XDA will get that. It wont! It is just too hard and to time consuming.
So what can Leo do, except look good?
For 700 euro I had expected a lot more!

I know and it makes med sad.
I have bean in this buying coma and just got woken up,
and realised I cant get everything in one phone, if I chose to buy a
HTC phone...
But how come a phone with killer hardware still havent got more to offer,
when both samsung and toshiba G01 has more things to make use of the
hardware?
So what can it do? What use do I have of Leos hardware?
I think this is a nice thread with a good topic.
then don't buy a Leo, simple huh?
Toshiba TG01 lags, care to explain me why? Yet it has the same processor as the HD2. So what is the use of the hardware there (same question)? Same thing on the samsung. Every phone has a fault or something that won't make everyone happen, that's just how it is.
No manufacturer will ever make a phone with everything in it, it's not just HTC that does this. It shouldn't make you sad either, you would do the same if you ran that company, otherwise would bring them about ruin
dont confuse HTC with windows, and iPhone with its respected OS..
HTC made this phone, made a monster, whether it does everything you want or not, its personal opinion, but HTC did make a phone, not the operating system, which is where we get to Windows Mobile, with that OS it depends on the people who make programs for each phone, but we have a ton of windows mobile devices, where each one should have its software designed for it. Now i agree with u, Windows Mobile didnt give us unlimited app's options, they left a big part of that in the hands of other programmers, which is why we are all here on XDA
The iPhone on the other hand, they made the 3 versions of the phone, with all the app's, and then released it, even tho around 90% of the apps are a joke that u install 1 time, play with it for 5 minutes and uninstall it, its still a huge amount of applications.
So you cant really ask if the HD2 can do what the iPhone does, it just takes time for the developers take that "everything i want" and put it into each program
edit: (and i really had to do this ): Dont ask what the Leo can do for you, ask what you can do for your Leo!

Oh, don't worry, it will be usefull.
Only problem will be could you use all of it's potentials... and find a way to do that...
Gaining post count
Well, seems to me new users badly need postcounts to get a free HSPL when the time comes.
Someone said, ..O dear... (that what spot on)
For the rest, if people really want 1 device that can do it all, buy
the HTC Shift.
This Hybrid OS device does everything from detecting Higgs particles to transdimensional teleportation, GSM calling and Windows 7 / Windows Mobile 6.1 with HDSPA and builtin stereo speakers and then some.
First impressions...
Ok, here some first user experience after half a day:
PRO's:
- The screen is HUGE!
- Flat device
- New TouchFlo + "multitouch" (only zooming), pressuresensitive
- Most applications and functions are fingerfriendly
- Fast(er than Topaz). See my new benchmark thread
- Led flash (not very good, but better than nothing)
- Much program memory 336 Mb
- Flat leather case, simpel but usefull I think
- 3,5 mm connection
- New micro-usb connection (is that a pro?)
CON's:
- The device is huge! To be honest I was a bit shocked when I first saw it. It's very "wide"...
- My first impression is that the screen is good but no better than the (small) Topaz screen
- Storage memory is low, only 183 Mb
- No stylus! At the moment a big issue for me. Not everything is fingerfriendly, so much frustration. Scrolling is hell! CERTAINLY AN ISSUE BECAUSE THE SCREEN DOESN'T RESPOND ON A STYLUS OR OTHER SHARP OBJECT!!! Hope I will get used to this soon.
- Camera sticks out. The camrea sticks out of the back of the device so the device rests on the silver edges of the camera. Not good for the silver, not good for the camera.
All in all it's impressive...!
Report later when I'm a bit more used to it.
(My Topaz screen look sooooo small now.....)
I completly agree with ETHANIAs first post.
There is also one BIG CON:
"Pretty much all videos under 720p played just fine without any dropped frames. The HTC HD2 has similar issues as Acer neoTouch and has even worse performance. While the neoTouch managed to play the 720p videos with 15-17 fps, the HD2 has an output of only 12-13 frames per second. Not that any of those is actually watchable but it gives you an idea. We guess the graphics subsystem of the Acer neoTouch has a few tricks under its sleeve and it's not a matter of pure CPU clock comparison."

I have TOUCH HD and i am dissapointed with it. Yes you are right, i really dont think to buy it (not yet ). I wish you luck with yours HD 2.
Any link for buying in Holland?

feel cheated

I just feel like I fell for HTC's empty promises yet again, just as it has happened in the past so many times. You buy an HTC phone and you find it a little slow, the typing is not perfect and you say hey, maybe the next one will fix all these problems. The next one comes, you dish out your hard earned money for a super duper king of all phones just to find out that it's still half baked, but since christmas is coming it needs to be sold now. And of course the annoying little nuances never get fixed. Maybe in the next phone...
Htc never published the video drivers for the Kaiser, nor the HD and will never fix up the HD2. It is kind of ridiculous that such a powerful machine still lags from time to time and that typing is nearly impossible. If I did my job that poorly I would be fired already.
I only wish the iphone had a decent screen I might not buy HTC ever again.
As far as typing is concerned, try to disable vibration on key press .If you need haptic feedback, then use typing sound instead. Right now i'm replying from my HD2 only without any issues.
do you have the keyboard lag too? mine just stops responding for a second or two.
I don't know why you feel like that, I have mine for almost 2 weeks now and I have only good things to say about my HD2, I didn't found one single bug in all this time.
The typing is very dificult on the begining, but that is just because os the diferent and much more sensible screent type, but with time you will see that it's much faster typing with this screen then with the older one, you just need some practice.
I don't have any slowwdowns or freezes in movies or music playing.
Tbh the sensitivity of the Screen is much to high, and you cant type to fast with both hands cause much isnt recognized by the device.
Its quite hard to type two times the same letter. You are forced to move your finger more far away, thats a lil bit annoying.
More annoying is the latency time for typing. That isnt a problem when u type with only one thumb, but with two thumbs its a big issue.
Capacitive screen is a big improvement, but its not the same like that one of the iPhone.

yes. it is more sensitive. but, you can reduce it using a cab posted I. this section.
I have an iphone 3gs also. All I can say is, I don't find much difference in typing speeds between two phones.
I find it way easy instead by using t9 in HD2 with a thumb and index finger.
BTW, I'm replying this using my HD2.
It's like running Windows 7 on an overclocked I7 920. it will always feel "slow". It's not HTC's fault.
Next time - go android.

zilask: I don't know what your problem is or what you're doing, regardless, I think you're a dofussss & a cry-baby (sorry, I know name-calling is not nice)... I'm running the ported Sense & keyboard on my 533Mhz Diamond and even thus I don't experience any lags!!! Its a SENSITIVE super screen, that's why you bought it -get used to it - and that's a 1 Ghz processor not a quantum leap so close some apps, or even give it a soft/hard reset to clear up any malfunctioning or hung up programs.
That said, the combination of 1Ghz + 200 Megs of free RAM makes an HD2 a monster with a license to kill, there is no keyboard or SENSE that's going to slow it down! So, I suspect that, whatever your problem is, its something you did, and no iPhone is going to save you - it too crashes and requires soft/hard resets! Have you never crashed your 3.5 Ghz & 4 GB RAM computer?
I'm sorry to be harsh, and if you feel offended -or can't take criticism- perhaps you should NOT have complained, and just simply asked for advice on your situation!!!
Well I felt stupid last year after buying my first WM device. But I simply should have tested more before I bought it.

So, why can't I complain, if I'm not happy with the device. I read most of the forum and I simply expressed my frustration and feelings towards the phone. If this forum is only for positive feedback then it should be stated somewhere. I also don't understand why you have to call me a doufuss? You are entitled to you opinion, but I do not share your experinece.
When faced with a technical problem, I turn and face it and direct my energy into finding a solution, not giving up and blaming.
The problems I encounter are mostly due to pushing the envelope of what a device was designed for.
On some platforms, which will remain nameless, this is not even possible, hence my love of WM & HTC devices.
For a non-enthusiast user, this device is superb, probably the best available, but that's only my opinion.

Clearly this is out of hand. I think forums generally serve a small percentage of actual phone users...'power users' dare I say it and those wishing to learn more. A forum is bound to highlight all of any devices problems because that's is one of the primary reasons they exist. So all of the other millions of happy customers you never get to hear from. Clearly this is an awesome device.
I think a little more sensitivity (girly-ness) is required!!

Why we love our HD2? Guys, share with me

These days, I've seen way too many threads like "Goodbye HD2, hello Iphone", "Htc Hd2 bye bye" or "Wtf with this phone". I cant stand it. So I want to have a praise thread for our HD2, our beloved and best one, also want to share my opinions on the HD2 and Winmo generally for everyone to see and think.
Here are some type of opinions quite popular these days:
"Windows mobile 6.5 is a dead os for lack of a better term and also know that the development for apps for it is going to taper and die off at some point"
"HD2 is too buggy, laggy, errors"
"Winmo is a waste for HD2"
"Where are the games and apps?"
"Not work out of the box?"
To answer, first of all, I dont care about apps that Iphone or Android has.
I dont play games much now so that's a second point. Although they do have some very interesting like Tunewiki or Layar, that's the only thing I miss from my old 3GS and Hero. And if u paid so many money for games on iphone, why dont paid a 5 Euro more for Fpsece, to have the best experience about PS1 games on a mobile device so far.
Secondly, about basic apps, Winmo wins.
For videos: I dont have to spend hours to find a good convert program and hours to config and wait for the converted file to transfer to my phone, Coreplayer and TCPMP serve them right.
For ebooks: the most popular format is prc, Mobipocket reader wins again, I dont have to convert either.
For office: what can win over office mobile, please show me, I have no idea about this.
And u know what, Winmo has these basic things and apps for free!!!
Third, the true multitask:
Winmo has been a winner since the start. I agree that Iphone can be jailbreak then install e.g Proswitcher, but that's not so convenient like Winmo. The basic thing about Android is it never really closes an app, keeping it running in the background for quick response, but that only makes Android become slower and laggy just like Winmo. But for convenient, and with a power specs like HD2, it's so great in terms of multitask for me.
Fourth, the screen:
HD2 has a great and super beautiful 4.3 inch screen. I can never go back to a 3.2 (Hero) or 3.5(Iphone) now, I will consider for a 3.7 one. Watching photos, videos, viewing documents, surfing. It's superb with HD2. And please dont expect a device with great screen like that to have a good battery life. More than a day with normal usage is so enough. I got 1.5 days or even more than 2 days with my HD2.
Fifth, and the best one imo, CUSTOMIZATIONS
Winmo is the best world for customizations, for devs and chefs. It got history, and it's truly popular, right? I love to tweak my phone, customize it the way I one, change every weeks or even every days, so I cannot get bored with it. And look at this forum, so many manila mods have been built and definitely going on and on. From maxmanilla, cookie home tabs, GTX, all are wonderful and amazing. I cant thank them and all the chefs here enough.
Now, look at Iphone, what can u do with this easy to get bored home screen, except for changing icons?
And even android, it's not easy to customize it without rooting. And things to customize so far? Not much, I see.
For all that has errors, bugs, laggy, I think it's just u to make the phone like that, not the phone itself (if it's not a defective one). Too many report shows the phone works out of the box, count me in for that. I went with stock rom for a month at first with nothing went wrong.
Winmo to me is never a dead OS like it seems now. It's still growing strong in the world thanks to xda, yes, xda is the one that makes it strong, imo. We love to tweak, we love to customize, we love to share our knowledge and stuffs, so we are here. If u just dont feel like to tweak, u better not be here, xda is not some place where u can just complain and complain everyday for ur own faults.
Finally, HD2 is not a waste to me to run Winmo, it's best with Winmo.
Whew, my longest post so far. Guys, dont leave me alone, come and praise our HD2, I know u will.
List the best things u ever had with HD2 and show the world
P.S: it's just my opinion, but we all have private and personal purposes for using mobile in our life, so that we have personal choices on mobile, so please dont flame on me so hard, haha
1. big screen - can see web pages better than my x1a 3" screen
2. software options (still compatible with the software i use on my old phone) tomtom 7 - no need to have a data connection to use gps, slick im - use this when im on the move, option of using several different types of web browsers (ie, opera, opera mini, skyfire)
3. phone is unlocked and can use it as a prepaid phone.
Exactly mate, should have mentioned the chasing game between apple and devs, it's really annoying sometimes. And the price for an unlock iphone is really ridiculous.
You know, I have both the Nexus one and HD2, but I am really thinking of selling my HD2. I love all the things you have mentioned, but texting is kind of a big deal to me. With an HD2, the keyboard so choppy, no matter the rom I try. If I can somehow fix it, bye bye nexus. If not, well...
Just thinking would there be a phone that has a screen larger than 4.3" in the future or this is the biggest already? By the way 4.3" wide is a common size for GPS device.

The athena had a 5inch screen.... but you couldn't use it as a regular handset. You needed to use either bluetooth headsets or speakerphone. It was a cool phone, though.
You guys covered it
I agree with everything you guys said, except texting prob, I use swype, love it!! By far best phone I've ever had!! Just added, msvc, love it, just made perfect, better!!
My main reason for choosing HD2 over iphone or android devices is privacy!
I don't have to have apple and google knowing everything about me!

exactly my thoughts.
I love it because the great hardware I saw this as a newstep after the qualcomm 528 mhz. Wich was used for 3 or more years. This was a newstep for 2 years this will be a fast phone. And the freedom of windows mobile is also great.
Simply the best phone I ever had! Does everything I need and more!
I love my HD2 because it's big, it's strong, it's fast and give me the possibility to customize everything like I want.
I love my HD2 even because makes me different from all the mass of sheeps that walk around with an Iphone and use their phono to simulate a beer drinking and s**t like this.
Having an HD2, like my good old HTC Topaz, makes me feel different and like a pro.
I have always been a win mobile user. love the ability to anything! can send files bluetooth, COMPLETELY change the theme of the phone, and modify the software ANY way you see fit. suck on that iphone.
The only thing I would change would be camera hardware button
They say the HD2 will be the last in windows mobile 6.5. what a way to go out with a bang!!!
windows mobile+huge screen+fast processor= one sick device
I could probably be classified as a (very) dull business user and I have never before cared over what device was put into my hands..
I have used SE, Nokia, HTC, you name it, and even a iPhone for a while, and all worked okay and I did type an occasional e-mail on them but in reality they all fell short, some with clunky e-mail integration other with unsuitable screens for reading long texts.
With the HD2 I have hit "home", I have become truly freed from my office - I can access and work with my e-mails, read trough and review extensive attachment, surf the web, get online with my laptop without hassle trough the WiFi router. First phone I ever used that work seamless with bluetooth both in the car and with headsets.
It's a serious device and not a toy with downloaded flashlight applications.

These are the things that I never bother or want to do with my old 3GS and Hero
Hi,
I like:
1) Screen (come on 4.3 inch MAMA MYA that’s nice step for mobile phones. I will never buy IPhone 4G if it’s less than 4.3 inch screen)
2) Design (Very slim very sexy)
3) Speed (yeah it’s really speedy)
4) Freedom (WOW the best thing. No more F jailbreak)
I don't like:
1) SMS messaging interface (Please anyone know other messaging interfaces? or at least to tell me how to disable the loading of messages as once. I rather like IPhone messaging where it loads small amount of sms in the chat area and load more history sms on request if needed)
2) Battery life (To bad to be in such great device)

I always have over 400 sms in my inbox, and it loads quite quickly, I think. No problem for me. Why dont u try the old style thread messaging from Energy rom or some other roms?
Thank you for starting this post. I was reluctant to upgrade from my Touch Pro to the HD2 for the lack of a hardware keyboard, which I used constantly. The big, beautiful screen won me over and I'm happy to report that I'm typing as fast as ever now that I'm used to my HD2.
I love the huge screen, HTC Sense (Thanks to Cookie and averyone else, not enough room in this thread), one touch dialing, programs etc, etc.
Every, and I mean EVERY challenge that I had with my phone when I first bought it has been solved by using these forums.
Every, and I mean EVERY modification that I could have dreamed of has been supplied by using these forums.
This has been the case since I started using WinMo and with every device I've owned.
These sour grapes posts by individuals who refuse to take the time to use this fine provision in order to make full use of their HD2 are a slap in the face to the hardworking developers who have brought countless hours of joy to the rest of us who deeply appreciate their work.
To the developers and contributors of this forum: I salute you.
To the individuals who are posting their "Bye, Bye" threads. Please leave quietly, and don't let the door hit you in the iphone.
Oh finally some positive thread for HD2.
So what i love about my HD2.
Speed - lighting fast
Customization - Thanks Winmo 6.5
Usefull Programs - Programs that really matters. Like Resco explorer and image viewer, FPSEce,iGO with multitouch and compass
BIG screen - The Biggest!
Open platform (flashing ROMs) - Can be really fun
Loud speakers - Well maybe too much =)
Capacitive screen with multitouch - Say yes to best gaming experience
How the phone feels in pocket (comfortable) - You dont even know it's in your pocket
But there are few bad things =(
Development - The newest games looks like ripped of java with touch support
Really old core of OS - Winmo 6.5 is quite ugly too
Reset button under Battery cover - lol at this one
