Home screen date format - SOLVED - HD2 General

My HD2 is currently set to Bulgarian regional settings so it can display Cyrillic fonts correctly (that concerns also subtitles in TCPMP). This surely affects the home screen date format and for unknown reason it doesn't want to display it in dd.MM.yy (19.12.09) format, instead it shows something different that exceeds the borders of the date field as you can see in the screenshot (translated it says "Saturday, December 19"). Is there a way to force it to use dd.MM.yy?
On the second screenshots you can see my date format settings.

Same problem here. Was not able to make Sense home screen display short date format.
Guys...any ideas

I just solved it thanks to this thread

Thank you dEf0RM, also Topaz and turkez (from the other thread) !!! I edited the 2c89bd29_manila file from Windows directory. When overwriting it there was a warning that this is a ROM file but I backed up the original file first just in case. After a soft reset the date looked just the way I wanted
OS language - English
Regional settings - Bulgarian
Date format on homescreen: dd/MM/yyyy

10x alot, worked fine for me.

I also want to change the date format on my home screen, but I'm not able to do it. My date shows ma 4 jan (Dutch ROM). Whatever I change in the regional settings, f.i. d/m/y, it still says ma 4 jan, without the year. I want it to say: 4-1-2010. Does anyone know how to do that in a Dutch (1.48) ROM? HD tweak used to do that trick on the HD but no on the HD2 anymore. Any help appreciated!!

where did you get/find the 'r' in the date formats. I cannot find them anywhere.

That's automatically done when you select 'Bulgaria" in the region tab in regional settings and it appends after the number for the year. It is actually an abbreviation for the bulgarian word for "year" and does not interfere with the date format. Same thing is for the currency.

The Dutch file to change the date format on the homescreen is: 4dd5e23b_maila. Thanks to BeeGee_Tokyo

Can somebody post here the solution, because the other thread is gone.
Thank you in advance.

Make sure your Manila version is 2.5. You need to find and edit the file 2c89bd29_manila, located in Windows folder. First, backup the file in case you want to restore it later.
1. Copy that file on your desktop PC.
2. Open it with a text editor like notepad.
3. Find the text IDS_DATEFORMAT. There is <source>ddd, MMM d</source> after that. Change it to your taste.
You can edit the IDS_DATEFORMAT_SMALLVIEW as well, if you need to change the way date appears when you slide up at the homescreen.
4. Save the modified file as a text file and then remove the txt extension so it would look like the original 2c89bd29_manila.
5. Copy back the modified file to your Windows folder.
6. Soft reset
To access your Windows/ROM files you need to use a file manager like Resco explorer or Total Commander.

Cannot change themes anymore

I am not sure when it happened but i have lost the ability to change themes. I have it set to the Windows Default theme and can't change it to anything else. When i go to settings, then Today, I get a list o fthemes. But if i select any of them and hit ok, nothing changed, even after soft reset. Th eonly thing that changed is when i highlight an object, the highlight is a different color.
I am sure a hard reset will fix this, but I don't want to do that yet.
What exactly happens when you select a theme? Does it extract some files from the .tsk file? If so, what are they and where does it go?
Perhaps, those files are write protected andcan't be copied over in my case.

WOW, this is happening to me right now and it's driving me nuts! it seems to have happened after i tried a blackish greyish theme called vista something. Have you found a fix for it?! or does anyone know how to fix this? all i can use is the windows default aqua theme
This is happening to me right now also. Has anyone come up with a fix for this yet?
im still looking for a solution. if i find it, ill post it here. if you find it, please share!
This is happening to me too. I decided to change themes the other day and nothing happend after selecting and hitting 'ok'. Even the themes that came with my Mogul dont work.
I have tried removing themes and soft-restarting and no luck.
Does anyone know what files are modified when you select a theme? my guess is that something is getting corrupted.
Using a registry editor, go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall\
Do you see a key named after the theme you installed?
If so, change the value of Role from 64d to 24d and then remove your theme as you usually do.
Here is an expert's explanation:
BenThon said:
Nevertheless, there is a light problem with TSKs created with XML :
I have found a drawback writing TSK with _setup.xml :
New keys in registry :
HKLM\Software\Apps\name of TSK
HKLM\Seurity\AppInstall\name of TSK
And it creates a folder in Windows\AppMgr\name of TSK with a tmp file inside. You can't delete these folders as they are System.
Tsk installed with XML have registry key :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall\TSK_Name\Role = 64d
So, When this key is set to 64d, application are masked to the uninstaller.
If you put the value 24d, as other applications, you can uninstall TSK with classical uninstaller.
It deletes the registry keys of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Apps\TSK_Nameand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall\TSK_Name
and it deletes folders concerned.
So :
actually, when a TSK is loaded with xml, it creates keys in HKLM\Security\AppInstall\TSK_Name\Role = 64
and folder in Windows\AppMgr\TSK_Name
But you cannot uninstall the TSK by normal procedure because the uninstall is hidden by the value 64 of Role.
If you set this value to 24, it is possible.

borealcool,
So if I understand you, you are saying that when I change to another theme, the system is trying to 'uninstall' the current theme? So if I change the value in the registry it will be able to change or 'uninstall' it?
I was thinking that it could have something to do with a locked file of some sort becuase I have also been stricken with the 'access denied' phantom. I can't delete files from file explorer no matter what they are or where they are stored. (and no other programs are running)
I guess I'm going to have to become familiar with the registry...ugh. Do you have a recommendation for an editor?
TSK and _setup.xml
I think you are right borealcool !
It seems that I have played with fire by permitting to create TSK with information file "_setup.xml" :
if there is not a conventional inf file (with extension ".000") themes does not work with OS < WM5.
there is a drawback with theme and _setup.xml (which I explained here in september 2006 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1016599#post1016599 and in a RTF file (TSK and XML (EN).rtf) which is in the zip file of ThemeGenCE.
I have found the same problem in this forum : http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1291292
Please read the TSK and XML (EN).rtf where I explain how to solve the problem and give a solution with ThemeGenCE and PocketPC connected with ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center.
I can give you an advice if you do not want to have problem with themes :
Create themes with ThemeGenCE with setting for create the themes in the Options Tab for TSK with "+ Inf" only selected.
If you load a theme from Internet and you are not sure how it was built, take it into ThemeGenCE, check the "+Inf" option only and save the theme with your modifications.
Same problem here.
I have the same problem it will only load the one default .tsk file no matter what tsk file i select. if i go to reg and check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall\
I don't see any entries for the tsk.
I also checked HKEY _CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\TODAY
It shows the tsk file i have selected but theme still remains the green generic one. Ican select a picture as background but I have some cool themes too. Any other ideas to fix this?
I'm using aT-mobile Wing WM6
Thanks all Randy
can those who are having the theme problem still successfully connect via activesync?
qu1nn
activesync
Activesync works but I just reformatted my computer and loaded activesync a couple of days ago.
I know this question is prolly silly but do I install themegence on my computer or on my WM6 phone? Also which version should I use for creating themes on my mogul? Thanks
It seem happends when I changing theme with task tray hidded.
I used to hide task tray with dciNoBar.exe.
And then, the CAB files can't be installed too.
WM6 seem can't creat TSK entry in today category.
So, I have'nt found solution, just hard reboot and reinstall all.
I was having the same problem until I noticed HTC X-Button 1.5 was the culprit. I changed the Button settings to "End programs by tapping and holding "X". This solved the problem until I was able to get the theme changed then I changed it back to "End programs by tapping "X".

You'll have to be a little more specific about what you've done in order for members to help. Any way, if you're talking about HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml , try renaming the original file in \windows to something else first (or move the ori file to some other folder), then copy the new file to \windows.
HI
i tried to rename, delete or overwrite the original file but i get an error " can not rename HH_409..... access denied. make sure you have sufficient memory, that the file is not set read-only and you have permission to copy the file type.

Try this... Use Total Commander, point to the file, properties, change the attributes (uncheck the read-only). It should be ok.
I guess im doing something wrong i installed the totalcomander in the properties i see its tab read only in properties i unchecked the read only but when i go back to the file it appears again read only. i went into Edit but i get an error -- file to big.
any suggestions where I'm going wrong ?

I am not sure how else I can help you. Now try this.
1) Use Activesync - Copy the file to your PC (definitely editable on PC using Notepad), edit and save.
2) Copy back to any temporary directory in Jade (activesync)
3) Use TC to copy to \windows (keep a safe copy of original file somewhere)
Attached is my .xml file in case you may want to compare and copy to \windows.

Hi azahidi
Thanks for all your efforts but no luck i think i guess there is something in the rom that dose not let me add cites i think the problem is in the registry. will use the phone with out weather.
another question i have may be you can help when i get a call and i answer the screen immediately goes black and then i need to open the phone each time the screen dose not stay on during the call.
Thanks
i copied your file i sow in total commander that the read only is un checked but yet i don't get the list of cities in the Weather Plug-in, i think the main problem is hear the registry and under hkey_local_machine
--software -- HTC --manila2D -- weather -- i found 0 to 4 each one represents a deferent city like Singapore bangkok i wonder how the registry looks in other jades.

In my HKLM\software\HTC\manila2D\weather, I have 0 to 5 and I figure out that this corresponds to the last 5 cities that I have added to the Weather Tab. I don't think this is the reason for your problem. I still believe it has something to do with HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml. another suggestion here
1) copy the file I posted into any folder
2) Change properties - check Read only, check System - click ok
3) copy to \windows (replace current one) keep original one somewhere.
4) soft reset
One more thing to check: HKCU\MUI\CurLang value should be 1033 not 409.

Well i copied the file did everything but still not able to add cites in the tuchfl weather application i think may be the problem is in the registry as follows.
HKLM--software--htc--manila2d--weather--in weather appl.
CurrentWidget--3
exist--1
LocalWidget--0
MovetoWidget--0
Restart--0
then i have 4 bilt in countries 0-4Sing,bangkok,ech.. had 0-5 origenly but delited one by mistack,
in settings appl. have
Autodownload -- 0 Bootup--0 Celsius--1 Cityindex--0 connectiontimeout -- 60 Currentcountryindex-- 5 IsaddCity-- 0 location -- Bangkok LocationCode-- ASI/SG/SN--/singapore RoamDownload -- 0 TotalCountryvalue-- 6
Could be that have to change some numbers?
Thanks

Does it mean that you just cannot select and add another city (but just the 4) OR you can select but cannot update.
If you cannot select, check HKCU\MUI\Curlang. Is it 1033 or 409? If it is 409 you have to change to HH_0199_WeatherCities.xml
I don't think it's to do with the reg setting.
i cannot select or add any another city in the weather application in the tchfl. menu -- add location screen is blank like a read only screen in the place were to add a city can nor write any thing.
regarding HKCU\MUI\Curlang. i have 8201

Hope it works this time.
Just an FYI: I also got my Jade from Starhub here in Singapore, and I can add locations to the weather tab in TF2D... I can actually add cities in countries from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe...
At long last works can update any city changed to 1033

NO.
the date in File explorer Changed but Manila didn't.
OK - so we are looking for a registry key relating to Manilla.....
My rom doesn't have Manilla, but there may be a key under hklm > software > htc > manilla2d that controls the date format there. Must over ride whatever is in SSDte.

Maybe, but cannot find it.
Could also be in the HTCHomeSettings xml file that controls how Manilla 2d works. Sorry - it's hard to try and solve the problem when I cant see the settings.
Maybe some more info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3317981&highlight=date+format#post3317981 Looks like the date format is hard coded into this version of Manilla 2d (the Iolite version). Posts around 6040 detail how to hex edit the program if the date really bothers you that much.
Try this key. Disasm'ing the file, this is what I found. It changes things somewhat, don't know if it's what you'd like, though.
[HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila2d\Home]
"CustomerTimeFormat"=dword: (set to either 2 or 3)
Setting at 2 will give you short date format, but according to your regional settings. Setting at 3 will be long date format and be locale-neutral.
Or if that doesn't cut it and you don't like results, simply hex edit to whatever you want. Hex edit manila2d.exe and replace 'MMM dd, yyyy' for 'DDD dd/MM/yy' without the quotes of course.

suggest word(s)

hi
I am sorry if this has been asked before (but I did search)
Is there any way to add suggest word(s) when typing in text, I have to type the same sentence over and over again every day and on my old phones/PDA this was not to bad as you could set the suggest word(s) to give you the next 4 works, I can't find this in the HD2 is there any way to add it
Thanks for any help
according to hint 19 in this thread:
19. Improve Suggested T9 Dictionary With Custom Words
The Leo has a very useful hidden application in the Windows directory. You need to unhide hidden system and Rom files in order to find it. Find the file "eT9MyWords.exe" in the Windows directory and add a shortcut to this file in your Windows/Start Menu folder.
When in the application, add the most common words you use when using the keypad such as names, locations, user names, email addresses and other words not common in the standard T9 dictionary. For example if you are based in London, UK you could add the following locations:
Leicester, Piccadilly, Tottenham, Soho, Charring, Euston, Trafalgar, Clapham,
and words such as BRB, DVD, coz, lol, xoxo, [email protected], ciao, etc.

I have read these tips and know about adding custom words.
What I want is for three to four words to come up to complete a sentence.
This has been in the input tap on old PDAs suggest word(s)
Hi
Is there no one Who can help with this?
Really with all the clever people on this site can no one help me
Please someone help me
Hi, i did a few tests and found...
et9mywords wont accept spaces, and although you can sneakily paste sentences into the input box, it wont save them, so that method is out.
Custom words are also found in HTCMDB.txt, and the good news is it works!
(See image)
The line 'this is a test' i hard coded into the file using my kitchen, then the 'this is a second test' i added as follows....
(I use resco explorer, i suspect the normal file manager wont do what is required, total commander probably will)
find /windows/HTCMDB.txt (it will be hidden, so show all files)
copy it to your sd card, and from there to your desktop.
(I tried editing it on the phone using windows mobile notepad, but it didnt work right)
On the PC, right click the file, properties, and untick 'read only', apply.
Open it and edit it as required.
Save it, and again right click, re apply 'read only'
Copy back to your sd card, and from teh phone use commander or resco to move it to /windows/
You will probably get a warning about rom files and what not, thats ok.
Reboot, and you should now be able to see your sentences.
PLease let me know how you get on.
EDIT - just for clarity, every entry inside HTCMDB.txt must be on its own line.
thanks for your help with this I have done as you posted and it works, it's a bit long winded but it works
thanks jason

[Q] Opera Mobile Automatic Language Deactivation

Hi, do you know is there anyway to use Opera Mini/Mobile in Windows Mobile on a language that's different than the system's language?
I find it quite bothering that Opera don't even offers the setup choice to the user but just automatically switches everything to system's default.
Thanks.
I didn't find it either. So I just checked the file names which were in use for auto-chosen language and overwrote them with the English ones, (which I renamed first of course). Problem solved.
Ok, would you be kind enough to give more details of the operation?
Thanks.
Look into the folders "\Program Files\Opera\profile\locale" and "\Program Files\Opera\profile\bream", make a wild guess which are the files that You think Opera is using for Your language (well, I can't know what that is, right?). If You are not sure, delete the ones that You suspect and if You are right, Opera should give errors when You start it. But please write down which ones You deleted, You need those names. Once You know which are the files, then:
1) rename "en-GB.lng" from "\Program Files\Opera\profile\locale" with the filename that was Your original language file in that folder, and
2) rename "locale-ri-en-gb.rsc" from "\Program Files\Opera\profile\bream" with the filename that was Your original language file in that folder.
Start Opera. Et voila, You have English.
Don't forget to hit the "Thanks" button
I was just about to hit it but now when i see it requested i'll just say you thank you in a written way
OK, thanks! I presume You have been successful. The purpose I emphazised the thanks button was actually that I am trying hard to gather those thanks meter points, but I guess now I won't be getting one...
