How much can I sell my G1 for? (not selling it now, just inquiring price estimates) - G1 General

It's rooted with CM 4.2.8
Includes an 8G microSDHC class-6 card
And recently switched to using RA-dream-v1.5.2 for recovery.
No case/holster.
Does have a screen protector.
It has the tiniest 1/8 inch long hairline scratch on the screen itself. It does not distort any viewing. Otherwise, has no other scratches on it.
What do you think I can sell it for?
I'm planning on getting the Nexus One when released.
My wife doesn't want my G1 - so I may sell it. Am just curious.

they usually go for between 100 and 220(max, usually 200) but i would check craigslist and ebay if i were you...

I was hoping for $100, as it's a year old.
Im glad to hear $200 is possible.
Thanks oshizzle!

160 is cheap for a decent one. If it had a cracked screen I could see 100 being a possibility, but 150 at least if that's the only scratch.

It's insane what the freaking G1 will sell for on ebay.
If you choose to sell it do yourself a favor first, get it unlocked.
Unlocked phones seem to add $75 to the going rate.
If its clean, rooted with a current mod, and unlocked....$140-$175
I fail to understand why a phone that, I can get for $129.99 with tmobile, will sell for $129 on ebay ... broken.
I watched an auction for one that had OBVIOUSLY been run over by a car.
The guy even said, all the plastic parts are cracked or broken. The screen is broken, it does not work, the thing is falling apart. It's junk!
The freaking thing sold for $92.
Personally I think the Chinese are buying them all up and refabing them into operational units or selling them for parts. I mean I can buy every part I need to make a G1 except the mother board and the daughter board off of ebay. (and pay about $129)
Thought about going and extending my contract so I could get a new G1 and then selling my old one one ebay. I figure I'd break even at least.

wow, G1's are being sold for more money than I bought it for. When I purchased my G1 at release w/ a tmobile contract, i paid 125 dollars for my g1, i nabbed it a day early from release . but still, are you telling me that g1's are going for that much out there?

That's what I'm sayin' ... WOWZA!!!
If that's the going rate, I may just buy some functional GeeWons and root them and unlock them and flash them with the latest CM and throw on a $0.99 screen protector and get DOUBLE-DOUBLE!!!

I feel I did a terrible thing when I bought my G1 judging by this thread. I paid almost 700 CAD and ended up signing onto a 2 year contract after the fact because I needed data as well....
There should be an icon for getting pounded in the bum.

Remember everyone,
These are the "current" prices.
3 months ago G1's were going for about $50 broken, and $120 used.
After the phone first released, they were like $450 for an unlocked phone and even more if it was one of the first rooted phones.
To many people are buying the G1 because it is the new Super toy. My friend with an Iphone, another friend with a Nokia 900 and I are constantly playing the, 'Oh yeh my phone does..." game.
The more people who buy them, the more the market floods and the faster prices can drop.
A large handful of these people you have met...we often see them with posts like "HELP! I just bricked my phone!"
Prices will go down when the Nexus One gets released because it will become the new HOT item.
Then we can all buy super cheap replacement parts for our G1's that are also running the Nexus software thanks to people like Cyanogen, Dwang, and all the other great Devs who have been working on these phones.
As far as paying to much...can't help you there. Research is always your best friend.

$125 that seems good

G1's in the US in perfect condition are about $200-$250 on ebay... I got mine a couple months ago for $190, and felt lucky at that price. Perfect condition, only 2 hours of talk time, guy got the phone to test for a magazine, used it for 2 weeks, then sold it. I did plenty of research and spend a month waiting for one in the right condition at the right price to come my way.
Anyone that thinks they only paid "$125" for it are ignoring the fact that was the 2yr contract price, the actual price of the phone new is more like $400.
If all it has is that one little scratch, it will go for up to $200 if unlocked and in an auction. If you do a buy it now posting, $150-$175 will sell quickly and is more than fair.

I push them to $400 AUD ,,, if someone wants their rooted phone they can pay the price
I will buy them for $300 unlocked if I have someone wanting a phone rooted
they are $460 New
If someone Brings me their phone I will root for Free ...

Thanks for your valuable input on this.
If I should post it on ebay (most likely there than Craigslist), do you recommend I mention the technical details?
ie: it is rooted, has installed Cyanogen ROM 4.2.9.1 + RA-dream-v1.5.2 recovery
I know for sure I will definately take some high resolution pics of it to clearly show its fine condition.

Yes, realize what you pay for.
When you say that you are paying someone on ebay or craigslist the same price what you can get one from Tmob for, you are not. You pay that price at Tmob because you are signing a contract. On ebay and craigslist you are just getting the phone. That's why you get these phones for so cheap from any cell carrier. Because you are signing a contract. If you buy the phone without the contract, you will pay $300 plus for the phone.
Some people buy online for different reasons. To root the phone or use on another network.
And lately, people are not going to want to pay that much for a phone they are going to experiment on anyway. You can get a good used mytouch for about $150. When I had my G1, I bought it a year ago from someone for $175. But, if yours is in decent condition, you should still get a good price for it though.

Rooted G1 for sale. 1 week old. Mint cond. $400

Well, as much as I love the handset itself I'm just not computer savvy enough to make Android do what I want it to. So I thought I'd offer it up here to try and save some money for listing fees before putting it on eBay. As of today I've had it for 1 week. Absolutely no scratches or damage and still has factory plastic cover on the screen. It's currently running modded RC30 v 1.31 with Carbon Glow theme. Comes with original box, instructions, 2 Gb micro SD card, and everything that came from the factory. My price is firm @ $400 USD SHIPPED. Will ship anywhere worldwide *except Africa*. I generally use USPS Priority Mail with insurance. I requested the SIM unlock code from T-Mo about 3 days ago so I expect that to show up any day now. Please reply via PM or email me at [email protected]. Thanks for looking.
*pics were taken several days ago prior to installing new theme*
Check my eBay feedback:

You might want to lower your price. I bought one off CL almost new with a extra battery, case, box etc for $225. They seem to go for under $300 new.
I'm very well aware of what they're going for on craigslist. My ad is aimed more for those overseas that don't have such easy access to them.
**Mods feel free to lock this thread. I'd prefer private contact if any**
you can get it from ebay, worldwide shipping for less...

Stop giving the guy hell on his price. Try to order an ADP1 and set the shipping to Germany and see what happens to the price - It goes over 750USD. Let the free market determine the price.

Considering that the OP has firmly set his price, aren't those two statements contradictory? (Note, I don't really mind OP's choice of pricing, just pointing out this funny logical flaw.)
hummmm

i wish you all the best with selling your G1

I'm not trying to "cheat" anyone. There's nothing dishonest or misleading about my ad. I know for a fact that with my willingness to ship worldwide I will easily get my asking price if I choose to put it on ebay. I simply thought I'd offer it up here first. Clearly, that was a poor decision on my part.

Considering the tone of some replies..that's exactly what I was hoping for. I'll simply take this as a lesson learned about this community and take my business elsewhere. Then there will be no need for further editorialization about my character or intentions.
Thank you to those of you with cooler heads that chose not to be a **** about it.
Honestly I think the problem is that you are asking full market value for something that is opened and without warranty.
Think about it, why would you buy a stereo from some guy off the street even if he was a friend of a friend, if you could get it for the same price from the company which not only guarantee's it but offers 30 day return policy and a manufactures warranty?
Honestly I have no problem with you selling it here, it isn't against the rules. But I think asking 400 for the phone is steep especially considering this is the market where we know what it is worth and how to find them.
I don't see what I'm doing as being any different than what people are doing with the Iphone 3g. You can get a brand new one with contract for $200 from AT&T. But if you've ever tried to buy one outside of AT&T you'd see that no one's willing to let an immaculate one go for less than $400 or so generally. Add on an unlock and jailbreak and that can take it up much higher still. Is it "cheating" to want to capitalize on supply and demand circumstances? An item is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If no one here thinks my phone is worth $400..that's fine with me. I know there are others that would gladly pay what I'm asking. Obviously, they just don't frequent this site.
I never said you were cheating I was explaining why I think they are pissed off.
Your iPhone vs G1 complaint is like Apples vs Oranges. They are in no way similar. The iPhone can not be bought unless it has a contract. Of course I would pay more for a non contracted phone, but the G1 is 400 with no contract. Wheter it is unlocked and jailbroken is irrelevant since the iPhone can't be software unlocked only jailbroken.
The only criticism I can give for me personally is that I thought you would have at least given xda members a discount. I mean what is 20-40 dollars gonna hurt?
I agree with you in that someone would pay 400 dollars... but I also believe that if you were really trying to help a developer get one you would be giving us a little discount from what you sell it on ebay. But that is just me.

One time (soon to be another focus owner patiently waiting)

I miss my focus reasoning is because of I wanted to save some extra cash for the holidays I returned my focus. But the reason was my (tech guy) walmart contact told me they have the samsung focus in finally and that it was 148.88 I was like well thats only 50 in savings from when I purchased then he told me that it came with a $100 gift card to Walmart! So if you are wanting the focus and to shop at Walmart the actual cost you will spend is 48.88! When my upgrade is reversed going to pick my toy back up!
Its effectively free at Walmart now, pay $99.99, get a $100 Gift card.
AT&T just started a buy one get one free WP7 promo. Good in AT&T stores only.
This just kills me! All these great promotions I can't take advantage of. Buy one get one free, uh...
Amazon also is selling it for 49.99, i returned my surround (i paid 99.99) and am getting the focus and $50 back.
The cheaper they are the more there will be! Go Walmart!
i bought one off of amazon when it was on sell for $50... Im glad i saved $150 for other things and if i dont like it i can just return and get the captivate or sell it on ebay for $500 plus and get a unlocked phone. but i have a feeling ill like it regardless off what everyone is saying

What do you mean? Apart from a few biased reviews like inforworld.com, it's been very positive in most of the places. Check the owner reviews in Amazon, they all seem to be happy though not all techies like the usual WM or Android crowd.
I'm hoping for a Black Friday deal on a no contract Focus. Not holding my breath, but it would be nice...

i meant the people who complained about how M$ messed up by not have 1 or 2 feature and blah, blah, blah ( some of them on here). Which i dont see why they are complaining, because its a new Mobile OS and it takes time to develop things. None of the other OSs were perfect @ start.
Same here, but it's not looking to good.
My contract with AT&T just ran out, so the last thing I want is another 2 years with them. I'd like to pick up one of these off contract to hold me for a little while until I can decide which carrier I'll eventually switch to.
Yeah, I haven't seen a lick of any kind of deal anywhere.

How Do People Keep Getting New Phones?

theres alot of talk of switching from this phone to that, but how do they do it? My dad has always handled the purchasing and contract stuff with tmobile, so i dont know. Theoretically if i wanted to switch from my vib to the G2 (NEVER!), would i just sell my vibrant and buy the G2 at full price?
note: this is just an example, G2's are stupid (for me)
Buying the phone outright, at least on T-Mobile, will give you cheaper rates. Part of your monthly bill is to pay back the difference between what the carrier paid for the phone and the discounted price they sold it to you for. For example, my Evo cost Sprint about $450 to buy it from HTC, however in exchange for a higher bill, they can sell it to me for $200 and make back the money about halfway into my contract. Like I said, I think only T-Mobile will give you lower rates if you choose not to buy the phone at a discounted price from them.
So yes, people usually buy them outright or they buy them for cheap off of friends or idiots on craigslist. If you do the math, most of the time it would cost you less to buy the phone for the full price if it means lower service cost. But most people want instant gratification and think...well they don't think lol.
A job helps. I buy my phones outright because the get more plus plan does not give upgrades, but over the long term, it saves money.
me i actually wait until the store is closed and "let myself in" and its usually a alot of phones out on display.
If you did not buy the phone outright (i.e. as an upgrade for cheap), and wanted to sell it and buy a different phone used, would that cause a problem for your account? Or would it just be as easy as logging into your T-Mobile account and selected a different device for "my phone"?

Once you pay for it, it's yours. You can do whatever the hell you want with it. Sell it, destroy it, whatever. As long as T-Mobile's getting their money, it doesn't matter.

DEBO! lmao
IMHO, I'd say once a year is more than sufficient to upgrade your phone in terms of the technological jumps. Anymore than that seems like a waste of money. No one says you have to keep upgrading, its just a matter or preference. If you find a phone you love and works for you, stick with it. If you love having the cutting edge stuff and its worth it to you to spend the money, then by all means, spend spend spend.
a job and full price. lol. i haven't had a contract with tmob for like 4 years anyway...
but then again, i went from a g1 to the vibrant, but i typically get a new phone once a year. had a bb curve, wanted android and got the g1, cm wasn't cutting it on the g1 anymore, so i got the vibrant, when a substantially better phone comes out (dual core, better screen, honeycomb, etc), or the vibrant just isn't working for me i'll get a new one (likely the former).
that or my wife needs a new phone (she has a cliq...), so i may pawn my vibrant off on her and grab an sgs2 or vibrant 4g.
I have enormous piles of money all over my mansion. That's how.

If you don't have any connections, then the best way is to go on T-mobile's cheap plans and then buy the phones used from a site like ebay or craigslist.
The typical cost for a new-ish smart phone is going to be right around $300... so you are paying more than the $200-with-contract price that T-mobile charges.... but you break even on the extra cost in 5-6 months by avoiding the extra monthly cost for service on a contract (since you buy the phone without signing up for a contract).
You can also usually sell the old phone for ~$100 after you unlock it, and put that money towards your next upgrade.
Right now, I plan to see how the battery life on the dual core phones goes. If battery life is improved, then I will shoot for device running "Ice cream" or whatever comes after honeycomb.
If battery life still sucks, then I will keep my Vibrant (and the 3 spare batteries I have for it) in the short term and keep an eye out for cheaper plans
Im in a college town and I can get things cheap off craigslist. I bought my second vibrant for 120 brand new with accessories. Just got an hd7 for 150 and ive bought 4 hd2 plus a couple broken ones from 40-150.
Key to buying phone monthly is patients, checking craigslist every couple hrs, and lowballing. I love to see a listing up for a couple days because its usually the green light.
Every phone i buy i usually see for 2x what I paid for.
Ive been living off my first real phones tmobile mda, samsung blackjack, and moto milestone. Ive been selling and buying since my mda. I try not to use my own money.
And all but not least I dont care for light cosmetic issues, thats what silicon cases are for.

Not really. All it takes is a brain. T-Mobile is addicted to promotions. I just upgraded my Vibrant to a HD7 for $200.
Free Online Promotion:
1. Order HD7 from T-Mobile as an Add-a-Line for $0 (they waive the Activation Fee) with a $15 Data Plan and Insurance.
2. Swap the SIMs in the Vibrant and HD7s.
3. Wait 2 Weeks.
3a. Sell the Vibrant for $200+
4. ETF the Line you added when you got the HD7 (it's using your older SIM*).
5. Total Price: $200 (Price of the phone for a new customer).
* You will still qualify for upgrade pricing when you would have if you had kept the Vibrant, because you still have the Vibrant SIM, you ETF'd the new SIM instead
If you're on T-Mobile, watch the promotions and wait. The only time you should feel like you have to get a new phone early is if you've been burned with an earlier purchase - like many [US] Galaxy S users feel they were.

The newer 360s aren't White, they're black.
Unless you meant a newer white 360 that isn't guaranteed to fail on you sooner or later?
The new Black "S" or pre-"S" Elite Models are fine, though.
The white ones... I wouldn't spend anything on them.

yeah, you could do that. but you pay more monthly on a contract plan than a no contract plan. plus, if i have a problem with something (or want to go to a contract for a phone), tmob is much more receptive to what i want when i'm off contract (and they check how long i've had service with them).
and i think you mean cancel the new sim/line and pay the etf on that. otherwise you lose future upgrade capability on the existing line. you physically swap the sim card between the two phones, but you cancel the sim that came with the <new phone line>. sim cards can't be reused, so you wouldn't be able to make your old sim use the new line's number and i'm pretty sure a sim has to be associated with a line.
why wait 2 weeks and why buy insurance? or is the two weeks to make sure the imei of the new phone takes for insurance (i don't have phone insurance, it's pointless)?
the hd7? that's a downgrade... and 'get a new phone early'? two years (22 months) between new phones is ridiculous, or at least is for any smartphone. once a year is about right with how technology is moving on phones.
i'm much happier just paying full price than doing some 'activate new line, call and ***** they didn't waive the activation fee, make sure the imei transfered for insurance, cancel line, pay more each month, etc.' dance.

That depends on where you live. Since this is the Vibrant forum I'll assume we're talking T-Mobile...
Not many people around here have T-Mobile, and their coverage is worst than Boost and Virgin so there are probably more people on Boost than on T-Mobile. Trying to sell a T-Mobile phone here won't get you anywhere.
Plus, the Value of these phones have gone down quite a bit.
Most people don't really see a point in buying a phone at off-contract prices, or anything close, because even if you buy at contract price and ETF 2 weeks later, the phone is cheaper.
So I rather buy on contract knowing I'm not poor and can ETF at any time on T-Mobile than buy a $500 phone and act like I'm better off because I'm off-contract.
$499 off contract, or $199 (with rebats) + $200 ETF fee two a few weeks later to end the contract?
Don't see a point in paying those prices for off-contract phones...
The contract prices only matter if you stay on the contract the entire time, but it's ALMOST ALWAYS cheaper to buy at contract price and ETF on T-Mobile later, than to buy an off-contract phone. You're actually throwing money away if you buy it off-contract.
That is precisely why AT&T and Verizon raised their ETF prices up about $100 bucks. To make the contract price + ETF = retail price. T-Mobile still hasn't, so it's cheaper to buy on contract and ETF break the contract after the first two weeks or month (depending on if you're waiting on rebates).

Want to Sell my Xoom, Am I out of line

So I want to sell my Xoom, I was lame and should have returned it within the 14 days, VZW isnt like Sprint and gives you 30 days (lame). Any way I will either buy a Samsung or a WiFi Xoom, I just do not want to be married to VZW for 2 years (have sprint and dont plan on going anywere anytime soon).
Have it on CL for $550 if someone assumes the contract, comes with case, perfect condition.
Does this sound fair?
Worst case, you can try Gazelle, see what they offer you if you don't get any hits.
The going price on eBay seems to be 700-750 right now
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
With a contract, it is $600 new from vzw with none of the hassle of transfering the contract. You might need to go a touch lower than $550. But, you never know. Some people are stupid and have no idea what it is worth. Example - I sold my ipad a week before the Woom came out for $750. Considering a new one was $829 and newer tablets were literally weeks away, that guy must have been crazy.
If you really want rid of it, I'd try to ebay it for $700ish and eat your Verizon ETF.
Outside of the return period, you're going to take a hit.
Yeah... married to a 2 year contract I'd be hard pressed to shell out over $400 for a used tablet in any condition. I hope you get at least $400-500 for it!

I've had a few people offer 750 off contract for it. Leaves me $400 after ETF and eating tax and activation.
I'll give it a few days, see what happens.
Im not trying to sell it here, was just seeing what everyone thought of my pricing.
Damn Im an idiot for being an early adopter. THought I'd use the data more than I do.

I feel kinda bad for anyone trying to sell a Titan on the MP now...great deal though, maybe trying to clear stock for the LTE sequel.
Amazing deal here. Thanks given This is even cheaper than new ones on eBay!
I've always loved the design of this phone and would have tried one out if I was able to get T-Mo 3G on it
Once those with the "free" Titans (or Focus S) they got from the Microsoft trade-in promotion start unloading theirs, the price should drop. The Titan2 is just around the corner too.
