Un-root CDMA Hero (Sprint) - Hero CDMA General

I have an HTC Hero running Fresh 0.7 with the two-part patch applied. I would like to un-root the phone if at all possible. I have attempted using the RUU utility, but received an error code 170 when I ran it. The error indicates a USB connection issue, but the phone is definitely plugged in and has all drivers installed (I have the SDK and ADB drivers installed).
Can anyone give me a hand restoring my phone? Any help is greatly appreciated.

try booting into fastboot mode (hold vol up and power on) then run the RUU utility. This method has saved me at one point!

saved me too! I got into a pickle when i flashed a cyanogen 6 rom. The rom worked but for some reason my sdcard would not mount, keep getting
E: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0
p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
so then i tried fastboot and made sure usb was connected ( fastboot devices )
and still had problems.... fastboot failed, remote: not allow .. so after a couple of days reading forums i tried running my phone in fastboot usb ( made sure was connected through command on pc ) then ran Hero_C_Sprint_2.27.651.5_R_2.1update.exe utility and Bam! Loaded up back into stock. haven't had any problems and my sdcard works again

Fastboot mode has always worked for me. (Volume UP + Power On)

i have a question, i am taking my phone back to sprint today and if i just flash the RUU will it be fine, or will i have to unroot it??

it's right there in the thread you linked to.
1. Simply rename this to HERCIMG.zip and place on the root of your SDCard.
2. Power your phone completely off.
3. Press and Hold VOL DOWN and POWER until your phone boots into HBoot mode.
4. Wait for it to verify the zip, then click <ACTION> (Trackball) to update, or <SEND> (Green Call) to cancel.

If your running Windows 7 and get error 170 just exit out of the program, unplug, plug it in and rerun the program. That's what worked for me.

What ROM ?

Hello,
I've a liquid with 2.00016 ROM
What is for you the best ROM for the Liquid ?
For best I mean faster and that work well without crash.
Thanks a lot
Well, if it comes to stability, I would recommend ACR 1.5.1
But now I'm using eVil 1.8.1 and I love it

ACR 1.5.1, is pretty stable..unless you are really into the liquid tweaking modding, i don't recommend upgrading to 2.1 leaked version..
i had lots of random reboots, phone getting stuck on standby issues and reverted back to ACR 1.5.1, really happy with it.
Flash the ACR on 2.000.16 and you have a pretty satisfied liquid with you..
a question
hello guys.
there's something I don't understand in the rooting process.
when I go to superboot and double click install-superboot-windows.bat
all I get is <waiting for device>
it stays there for hours then nothing happens!!
I was trying to update to 2.1
I downloaded the acer download tool 3.10
then the 2.1 firmware BIN file.. all that was done successfully.
then I went to the third step where I have to do the superboot i got stuck there..
can someone help me please?
Thanks ..
I've see that now there is LCR 1.2
Maybe I trial this rom ...
Thanks

You have to make sure you are in the bootloader mode in order to flash the recovery and boot roms.
For that you can enable debugging on your liquid and then navigate to the sdk directory as mentioned earlier for running the adb command.
Also make sure that you have the drivers installed.

ok let me put everything from the beginning because it's still not working and you guys tell me where did I do wrong.
I got the acer brand new. opened the box. used 1.6 android, and didn't like it.
so after surfing the web i was able to know that my rom was
ROM 1.001.05 AAP CSL.
so I used alternate superboot to root it the one provided in this pagehere
I followed the steps just like it was described but i have no small idea that it went successfully because I didn't see any confirmation of any kind that I had root.
well I don't know if there's any anyway
then I followed these steps here
I downloaded the drivers on my desktop.
then flash tools, and the 2.1 firmware liquidE "whatever it was provided in the link."
then I downloaded superboot and unzipped it.
I was able to find install-superboot-windows.bat I would get a window says flashing superboot
<waiting for device>..
and stays like that forever.
so I decided to take an action by turning off the device and tried to do the following:
removed battery
unplugged cable
re plug cable
put battery back
press camera+power then nothing happened I just got a regular boot.
so I did it one more time and this time I did
volume down+camera+power
still nothing happened ..normal boot.
I tried the same thing but volume up.. still nothing. so i gave up.
but after contacting you guys.
I downloaded SDK tools for windows
I opened android SDK windows folder then tools folder but I can't find any CMD file that I can run and type my commend in it.
I honestly don't know what this Android SDK is for.
so I got stuck with a liquid E rom without doing any recovery or anything.
I don't even know how to get the bootloader mode to run.
what should I do?
no I have ROM LiquidE.0.004.01 EMEA GEN1
it seems to run fine though..
but I don't know if there's anything missing
why am i not able to do the recovery step and flash system.img ??
Getting into bootloader mode when liquidE rom installed
Do this and you will get into bootloader mode when liquidE bin installed:
1. turn off your phone (and unplug usb if plugged)
2. press "camera + volume up +power" together at the same time (phone will vibrate 2 times) then release buttons
3. take the battery out and put it back (don't touch any buttons on the phone)
4. connect the usb from your computer to acer liquid and you will see the acer logo and then bootloader will pop up
mhmm
what he said: I always run into issues when someone says run superboot as the next step then install lickon's recovery. I skip the install lickon's recovery b/c it never seems to work for me. I just go to recovery mode after superboot is installed and after I put the .zip rom file on root of sd. Once in recovery i wipe, wipe, install from any .zip and i'm good to go. I probably lose out on being able to hard reset to the rom i installed but i have no idea what lickon is for and no search came up with a decent answer. I'll keep reading.
BTW, i ditched the acer neotouch for s100 and couldn't be happier.
Well finally I figured it out.
You dont actually have to press any hard button combinations because that actually never worked out.
So here is what I did.
I just enabled the debugging mode by going to setting>application>development>enable debugging
By doing that superboot worked just fine
Now I have Evil 1.9
To be honest non of the 2.1 leaked seems to function completely. . But still trying
don't forget to restart
After installing 2.1 and playing around with it for a bit, don't forget to restart it. Its horribly laggy the first go around, but after you reboot it (once you sync and all that), its pretty quick (though nowhere near 1.6). I have an issue with evilD's 1.9 where after having downloaded like 20 apps from market, when i open an app from the launcher, sometime when closing the app i get a black empty unresponsive launcher pop up instead of the homescreen and i have to click home button. (high-five for the run-on sentence... yeahhhh). Probably b/c of the DL rampage i went on.
Either way, i'm happy with it so far. I wish there was a 1.6 version with voice input in all text fields or a 1ghz 2.1 but that will come once liquid e is released officially.

install mods and updates without fastboot?

since i somehow managed to lose the ability to connect via fastboot..
is there another way for me to install zips?
phone rooted with 1 click..
also open to ideas as to why fast boot only says < waiting for device > now?
no conflicts in dev mgr, have uninstalled and reinstalled the sync and driver..
removed from dev mgr..
updated while in fastboot mode etc..
no dice..

can i convert a zip to a pkg and rename it update.pkg?
right now all i have is the pkg option when i hold the vol buttons and power.
i recently flashed to the new update which had fixes and newer baseband etc..
that went fine but the the steve 1.5 came out and i want to switch back.
as stated above thats not possible now since fastboot refuses to see my device.
Can someone put it in a pkg format for me maybe?
I dont like this official release...
its slow..it has lame apps, etc..
lil help?
dont really want to formate my laptop to fix a usb driver issue..
especially when the mass storage and sync work just fine..

there is a way of flashing custom recovery via terminal emulator. DEVICE NEEDS TO BE ROOT'D
save .img on to SDcard and rename to recovery.img
then open terminal emulator and type
su (press enter)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img (press enter)
reboot (press enter)
I had the waiting for device problem. I read a few tips saying to try...
Type "adb devices" to see if its recognised there.
Make sure streak is the only device plugged in usb.
If using a hub try a different slot or direct into pc.
Turn streak off and into fastboot while still connected to pc (after pc loads drivers)
Reboot pc.
I swapped usb soccets and that fixed it for me
Hope one of these tips works for you too.
Thank you. I actually tried all of those things...before i posted.
wondering if maybe the 318 isn't compatible..
it says its in fastboot mode..
everything else works..sync, sd card shows in explorer etc etc..
just no fastboot.
luckily the recovery still allows me to do .pkg but i need zips too
very annoying..
I ordered a M11XR2 and will try with that when it arrives..

I have 318 and fastboot works for me.
I only had to reconnect the adb bootloader interface driver again (just like I had to the very first time).
It is just fine now...

I've not had any issues with fastbooting, after installing 318, I've managed to flash clockworkmod aswell as the new Streakmod recoveries with my Windows 7 64bit.
reconnect the adb bootloader???
what do you mean?
you mean you plugged the usb cable in and ran fastboot?
lol
yeah..thats helpful

NO....
The streak wasn't recognized on the PC in fastboot mode, so I went back to device manager and found the unrecognized android device and set it to use the bootloader driver... The same proceedure as was done the first time the streak was connected to a PC to setup fastboot.
Took almost 30 seconds to fix
as i said though.. i have no conflicts...
I can even remove it from the device mgr...put eh phone in fastboot mode where it is waiting for usb coinnection..plug the phone in.. iot installs the drivers then the phone sees this and shows fast boot...
so you would expect it to work right? wrong... it says waiting for device...
I have tried everything I can think of..
i got a good deal on a new m11xr2 with win 7 so i will have a fresh slate and will see what results i can get.
in the mean time.. how can i convert this steve 1.5.zip to a .pkg?
or even install it with some other sokution or method?
i have it rooted via one click...
i have root explorer...
what now? lol
there has to be a better way..

Its easy to miss bits when its all going wrong so do check the sticky look here first for streak, I had to refer to it a few times. You definitely need clockworkmod or streakmod to flash updates. I believe you can do it via a terminal app with su privileges. There's a thread from a few hrs ago saying. I will find for you if you can't
Can zip be extracted and converted to .pkg?
Hell I would be content with just a way to install the performance tweaks...thats the main issue really...

I know Steve mentions "if you haven't flashed official dell update" blah blah... so im guessing you don't loose performance unless you manually downgrade? Have you seen the thread I mentioned? The OP claims he changed the dell .pkg to .zip and successfully flashed via clockwork..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869076
how does that help me?
when i power up holding the vol up and down buttons i only get the install Update.pkg option and when i choose it it takes me to the blue text screen when i choose to either update via pkg or reboot. its the Android system recovery utility GAUSB1A131800
there is no option or way to get an option to install zip.
I would like to be able to install the performance fix for 2.2 zip or steves 1.5zip
so do you understand now?
I cant get fastboot to work to install clockwork.
I only have the recovery utility...

it seems like i remember a thread about converting zip to pkg..
I cant seem to find it though..
if you just rename it in root explorer you get a signing validation error when you try to install it..
so I'm still stuck on stock 2.2
The initial thread is irrelevant, Have you not flashed a clockworkmod or streakmod previously? I would guess its possible to store a recovery.img on sd then flash via terminal app, i cant see why not? You could also probably use adb (if you cant connect to that the theres apps to do it wirelessly)
yes, i have flashed many times...
I flashed to 309 recovery in order to install the latest dell Update.pkg which went just fine. then when i went back to flash clockwork i could no longer connect via fastboot.
and thats where im at now..
cannot get fastboot to flash clockwork so i can install zips..
hence im asking for a way to do it without clockwork/fastboot until i get that sorted..

an I still believe the issue is that you do not have the correct bootloader driver installed on your PC as described here:

The issue is your PC, not the Streak (most likely)

Strange Bootloop problems!!!

Ok, i have a mytouch 4g that has never been rooted. The problem with the phone is that all of the sudden when i try to turn it on it wont get pass the splash screen. It will just turn off and reboot to the splash screen over and over. Thing is that i can get into Hboot quite easily. I tried to reflash the stock IMAGE file and it does it well without problems. But once its done and i hit power to reboot, the phone just starts to bootloop again doing the exact same thing. I know its kinda odd but i read somewhere that if i can get into Hboot the eMMc is not fried. But then what should be the problem?

HTC's too pro to have odin
the stock image file is named "PD15IMG.zip" and should be flashed in the bootloader.
Same here, this one skip the tp tp saying Bypassed on the second tp but everything seems to run ok. Only thing is that when i hit power after the update it will just start with the bootloop again. Since this is a friend, I dont really know what version it was running. But i do know its never been rooted or anything like that. Its on .86.000 and S-on and everything. Im going to try the gingerbread just for fun and see what happens.
thinking tese are Gingerbread update fails?
Let us know how the gingerbread turns out...Someone must have a recovery zip? Its obvious the two files I am trying to flash named the same thing are not the same thing or one is corrupted....211mb takes an hour on my connection now ANYONE HAVE A RECOVERY ZIP? Is there a program like odin(OK NOW I KNOW TO USE CMD AND ADB) Now I need a mytouch button press sequence to get to ENGINEERING MODE? to write to the frickin thing...I thought HTC was gonna be better than Samsung in this respect...I have one good mytouch4g that I can get the serial using the command 'adb devices' that is once mytouch is booted up...so question is how do i get to engineering mode in my bad my touch(which wont boot) so I can PUSH the file in command line interface.

Turn the phone completely off, and turn it on again using volume down+power buttons. This enters hboot, or bootloader, where you flash the stock PD15IMG.zip file.

I should be able to communicate with device using adb push in command line interface hboot then? I dont see any device serial with adb devices

my mom's is S-on as well, and computer can't see it through fastboot.

Its a waste of time people, sorry to say but this is definetly a hardware issue and its been spreading all over the world with people having issues on that same subject.

Is my DHD dead? (stucked in HBOOT, any option I choose, it always backs to HBOOT)

Hello everybody,
I have a HTC Desire HD which I was using the Android Revolution 6.3.2 with the recommended radio. I was running everything well for 2 weeks more or less.
This last week I went to Croatia for holidays and I realized something. Suddenly, the battery was finishing very fast. Then I removed the battery and put it on again and the nightmare started.
It went to the HBOOT screen and I'm stucked there. Doesn't matter which option I choose, it always back to the same screen. I can select reboot in fastboot, reboot in recovery, and nothing happens. It just back to the same screen over and over again.
I tried to remove the SIM CARD, SD CARD, take the battery off for an hour, and nothing.
I tried to flash the recovery again via ADB, but it doesn't work. It doesn't enter into the recovery. It just still keep backing from the same HBOOT screen.
I tried to run the RUU again. I got two different versions, and in both of them, starts well, it reboots my phone and when it backs, it says "waiting for fastboot" and I got a timeout message saying that the USB cable is not connected (the usb cable is fine).
I tried also to extract the ROM file from the RUU, put on the SDCARD (named as PD98IMG.zip) and run directly on the phone. It didn't work.
I have access from ADB (because when I plug the USB, I can see on the HBOOT screen).
Does someone has any idea of how to solve that? My knowledge is not so deep and I googled/read most of the things I tried.
Any fastboot or adb command that I can type and will bring my phone back?
Thanks for the help guys!
Try running the RUU from fastboot.

There is an option for fastboot in bootloader menu, select it and connect phone to computer before running the ruu.

[HELP] LG Spirit H440N cannot access to Download mode

Hi everyone, i have a big problem. Today i was trying to help a firend of mine by unlocking his bootloader on this phone but i got a strange message when i was trying to boot in Download mode. The message was:
"fastboot init( )
loading keystore failed status 5 usb init ept @ 0x8f20700
udc_start( )
fastboot: processing commands"
Basically it doesn't allowed me to enter in Download mode, so no reverting to v10f software, no pushing aboot, no twrp and no Marshmallow zip. Nothing at all, i could do nothing. In the following lines i will tell you what i did and tried:
1) Using different PC usb ports, no way to make it work
2) Using different cables, no way to make it work
3) Trying to boot in Download mode by removing battery and try without it, desperate, obviously no way to make it work
I spent two hours trying to find a way to make it work but i failed miserably...so i'm here hoping someone better than me can help me.
NOTES:
The phone was on original Lollipop firmware v10e (Italy) but rooted.
Basically i did nothing, just tried to put it in download mode (Vol - and plug usb in), tried also other ways but nothing showed up
When the phone is connected to pc (when it's on) it charges only, don't show the option to use mtp so... i think adb won't work
Hope it can help and hope you can help! XD
I had same error, cause of flashing the wron zip basically i needed to get into repair mode and use adb while its trying to repair use adb commands to reboot to recovery

Hi, i tried vol + but the phone just boots... i will try again and let you know in the evening
When device is off hold Vol- and power key until LG logo appear, then release the keys and hold them again, its really hard to time it correctly, but if you do you will get a factory reset option, on that screen you navigate using Vol+ and - buttons and power button is ok

Thank you, after the factory reset the combination Vol+ and USB worked (after a few try) and i was able to boot in Download mode, then i flashev v10f, rooted and pushed modified aboot, flashed twrp 1.1.0 with flashify (twrp official app failed many times) and finally installed v20b and supersu. Everything works as expected =)

Do you have twrp installed on your phone ? If, yes try to boot into it.
I have a similar problem with my LG Spirit. When it tries to boot, it shows an error message: Boot Verification Fail, DIFFERENT_HASH... After that it just restarts endlessly... I can't enter download mode, because the computer doesn't recognize it when I plug it in via usb cable... The only thing I can do is to get to the hard reset screen, but that is useless because it just restarts and shows the same error mentioned above... I'm out of ideas, the only thing that comes to my mind is to try and see if Ubuntu recognizes it, but then again, there's no LG Flash Tool made for Linux, or is there?
Sorry for mistakes, english is not my native language.

If your pc doesn't recognise it, try to find an another computer that you can try it on .

Thank's for your reply. I did just that, but without success... I also tried to do what MadjijaHacker wrote, but I can't get it right. I mean, I can enter in hard reset, but can't get to download mode. It seems that my phone is dead...
