[SOLVED] Answer key always enabled at incoming call (HTC dialer) - HD2 General

This is a major issue with the HTC HD2 Tachi dialer v4.2621.1920.3221 (standard factory dialer)
During an incoming call, Tachi dialer will enable the ANSWER hardware key (which is actually not that “hard” to press).
Possible consequences:
1. Auto answer a call while phone in pocket or bag and never notice it (especially if phone in mute or if ambient noise high)
2. While taking out of pocket or leather case, if ANSWER key pressed and then END pressed, call will drop.
In other words:

[EDIT: SOLVED]
Solution alternatives for this issue:
Use Pocketshield and set Settings > Phone > On Incoming call > "Lock hardware keys"
- or -
Use In Call Lock along with tweak in post #39

It's been this way with all their previous phones. Of course they won't fix it because it's not a bug.

Yes, the difference is that in all previous phones you can use a key locking solution... but not here so far.
Considering the fact that hard keys are now not too hard, it could be a functional issue (not bug exactly)

While I wholeheartedly agree that this is utterly annoying (and it breaks my own application, InCall Lock), I'm 199% confident they won't "fix" anything. Because they just won't, and also because if they do it they will get even more support calls with complaints that the answer button doesn't answer the call.

Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556801. I haven't used it on my HD2 yet but it worked perfectly on my Touch Pro. It completely disables the hardware buttons during a call so only the screen can answer/reject.

That's a program I wrote and I know it doesn't work on HD2.

Dammit, I was going to start using it.

This is a very annoying thing with the HD2, nobody came up with a solution yet?

Are you planning on releasing an HD2-compatible update?

Whenever I figure out what the hell is wrong with those buttons, and if it's fixable, I will, because it annoys the hell out of me, too. No good news yet though - I don't know what to do at the moment. It should work, it works on all WM5+ devices except the Leo.
We also need proximity sensor tweaks, because the way it works now is just horrible. When you end a call using a headset the screen stays on. When you have an incoming call while using your headset it stays on during the whole call and remains on after that, completely unlocked.

This is definitely by design on HTC's part and as others have mentioned has been this way on all prior HTC phones, at least of the 4 that I have owned. Personally have have not had an "accidental" answering once from the hardware key, it still takes an effort and timing to push this exactly while the phone is ringing. I doubt this will be "fixed", your best bet would be to find someone here that is as concerned as you are about it, or possible a future app that might address this need.

Perhaps if HTC decide not to 'fix' this problem as they see it as "by-design" then instead they can just fix the fact the button ignores 3rd party lockers? Best of both worlds then..
Anyways I've dropped them an email to suggest such, one little voice I know but if enough people do similar than lots of little voices can sound quite loud..

Exactly. That is what HTC has to change. To just have the phone application to behave as all previous models do, so 3rd party applications can coexist...

Would very much like to see a solution for this problem indeed.
Goodluck to the ones with the skills capable of doing so.

That's hilarious. It works perfectly on my 1.48 Dutch ROM. Thanks for this great utility (pity though, you yourself can't use it )

Hmm, maybe 1.48 changes something in the way keys are handled. Nice to know. Does it lock both Send and End buttons properly?

Yes, like you have designed to do. But I will look at the configuration of my device. I have another app installed that traps my buttons. I will report back if I can break your app. Otherwise, assume that I'm perfectly happy with it.
(Btw. as far as I can recollect, the app also worked on my pre-installed 1.43 Dutch Rom.)

Fixed (more or less)
OK, here is your fix. Create a long_send.lnk and place it in the windows folder. After that your app. does more or less what it is intended to do.
The weirdest thing is that when the send button is pressed when the phone is called (and your utility activated) the "long send" command is triggered.
(Edit for users that can't recompile your program to let it behave as it is supposed to, copy the phone.lnk in the startup/programs folder to the windows directory and rename it long_send.

Hmm that's even more strange - I have an action assigned to long send press via a shortcut and the program still doesn't work. I had an idea about writing a separate tiny program assigned to short press that would replace default action but haven't gotten to it yet. Is anybody willing to test whether short_send.lnk works (I.e. breaks the send button functionality)?

If you are using the WM dialer or maybe Phonex or Inesoft phone then there is no issue. Issue is with Tachi dialer only..
I have also flashed 1.48 and its all the same.

You have to install ONE of this Plugins, and i want to discover which is most used by Magician users.
As a task closer, I use my VJOkButt. It's not perfect, but it works well for me. For launching, I use cLaunch. With SmallMenu as a startmenu replacement, that's pretty much everything I need.

ok you've right! but all the software in the Poll has this function.
xcuse me
Calendar+ and PPCprofilesPRO.
Regards,
Arto.
Currently ?
- JGUI Zodiac Date (jeus for the date, and it doesn't pop up anything if you accedently tap it )
- tAgenda (used to have Tasks, Inboy and CalenderPlus, tAgenda makes all three obsolete)
- Oh, and Nakka's TDLaunch, because it let's can configure Iconsize and margins !
Not really a Today Plugin, but it replaces Todays info perfectly : W-Tools ResInfo (yes, Battery stats, Storage and Mem gauge in the Tray! It even shows charging )
My taskmanager is PocketNav, and i use the camerabutton as TodayToggleOFF and the memobutton for TodayToggle (Hi Vijay ! Great tools ! Normaly i would have taken a dozen pictures of side of my pants !
Now nothing really serious happens if the buttons get pushed accedentaly!)
Wow, someone actually uses TodayToggle?!
There's a name I haven't head for a looong time
I like it, but I will really have to think of something useful to do with that app some day!
V
Well, it's usefull enough for me.
I used to have "Today" under a button, but always shutdown the PPC afterwards, so.......
And if i use TTN5, i don't want to PPC to trun of, hence....
AND i always had a problem with accendently pressing the side buttons, and now the at least don't open "Tasks" or like i said, worse; the camare and starts shooting...
Btw, i tried Hidestart, but it doesn't seem to do anyting but temp. show time and batt %....
I'm still looking for all kinds of "Thumbs only" or "Thick fingers" solutions, i use my PPC a lot 'one handed' or in the car...
Espec. setting snooze to 15 min. or so in the car is considdered 'reckless driving'
I haven't developed HideStart any futher than a very early preview a long time ago. I've got some ideas about changing the way notifications are presented, particularly in VJSihaya, but I still like the idea of HideStart.
However, I think that when you "ghost" reminders, they still try to silently activate themselves from time to time, which causes your current app to lose focus, which is irrititing if you're typing something. I thought it was a bug in my code until I realised this. However, I still use it to ghost reminders from time to time when I'm too busy to snooze them all
It's possible some code I wrote for the upcoming release of VJOkButt (used to get around incoming call notifications) might be of help here... but HideStart is not a priority right now unfortunately. I actually just developed it for my own use in a modified version so that I could switch between Start Bar, New Bar and ToggleToday. It shouldn't really have been released, but I thought the reminder remodeling code was a useful idea to demonstrate... more later, I've got work to do

So do i, if it worked If i only could find a decent prorgamming/scripting language for the PPC. Although Mortscript is pretty nice, it misses so features....
And i'm not really a programmer, more like a scripter... Maybe i should take some time to dive into VB or eVB (I can do quite nice things in Acces on the desktop !)

Titan Flashlight Application

Here's a release of a simple flashlight application I created for the mogul based on code Vijay was kind enough to release a while back. Launch the exe once to turn on the camera light, launch it again to disable.
That's the only feature! I've messaged vijay with the value he needs to update his application with mogul support, so I hope he'll do that in the future if he has time. But until then, I whipped up this.
It might be buggy and it isn't quite the fastest application out there (I wish I knew how to query the camera for the current status of the LED) but it's a neat little tech demo that someone might find useful. I'll post the source code later after I have a chance to clean it up.
Report back with any problems as I've only tested this on my device! (Sprint Mogul)
Also, here's the obligatory "this program could possible harm your device and I take no responsibility for such an event." Use with caution and I wouldn't recommend leaving this on for long periods of time.
I'm using it with AEBPlus and have it bound to my camera key.
GREAT WORK! ya i know.... the reason i made the script is 1 for a safety catch and 2 for ikandy...
the script will turn the light on for 30 sec and hten off... 60 sec the off.. or let u do it manually... i personally know i hit buttons sometimes so i set my side button to the 30 sec script...
heres the beta script the icons dont work perfect yet but hell for those of u who cant wait let me introduce... Flashlight by Nilisco WoW and Stroths

thanks but dont give me the credit ... this one is ALL Nilisco
anyone know how to add a icon to it, so when it shows up on my quicklaunch for the HTC home tab, it has a pretty little icon?
cab updated .... mortscript no longer needed
Vijay's code was the key:
Code:
void fn_FlashMode(int Mode_int)
{
HANDLE CamHandle;
//1=on
//2=off
//DWORD FlashMode=1;
//open camera
CamHandle = CreateFile(TEXT("CIF1:"), GENERIC_READ, 0, NULL, 3, 0, NULL);
//Mogul specific device io
DWORD a=0x90002014;
DeviceIoControl(CamHandle, a, LPVOID(&Mode_int), sizeof(Mode_int), 0, NULL, NULL, NULL);
CloseHandle(CamHandle);
}
The only challenge in getting the flashlight working was to find the mogul io, which was right in the htc camera dll. The only way developers can communicate with it (I believe) is the DeviceIoControl win32 function, which is abstracted into functions in the camera dll. So, you just disassemble the driver dll, look for a DeviceIoControl command that looks to have something to do with flash, and bam, you've found the IO as it's a parameter in the function.

I didn't bother with the rest of my code (mainly just win32 registry changes to keep track if the light was on or off) as I believe my program will become a bit outdated as soon as someone posts the VJCandela hack they did without his permission.
I like this a lot. Also I'm impressed with the brightness of the moguls flash.
This works great. Any chance of making a version that stays on only if I am holding the specified button?
Vijay had one of his apps that I could assign to my left side 'press and hold' voice dial key. It would only stay on if I held it down and would also turn off after 15 secs of being held.
The current one works, but I am afraid of it staying on, and would also prefer it to turn off sooner when I am done with it.
So far so good though!
This is awesome!
I like the icons too!
Speaking of device-specific code, has anyone considered writing some code to re-route the audio to the internal handset speaker versus the external amplified one?
There are times that I think it would be useful to have audio coming through the handset... like if I want to play back voice recordings for only me to hear (vs the whole world when I play it out loud), or for VOIP apps like Skype. Right now, most voip apps use the outer loud speaker because every device accesses the internal one differently (or so they say).
This is quite a bit more complicated than a flashlite app, but there aren't enough Titan-specific developers yet to ask this anywhere else!
Figured I'd get your thoughts on this idea... what do you think it would take to write a small app to toggle the direction of audio?

LED Killer uses the scripticons.dll file for its icon. The flashlight app must have a customized version of this dll with its own icons added. Try uninstalling then reinstalling the flashlight app, soft reset and you will probably be fine. This will cause the flashlight's scripticons.dll to overwrite the LED Killer one.
EDIT: Don't worry about a virus from wowthatisrandom's post. I did a little work with him on this and its clean.

if you go to the settings screen and then to buttons, you can reprogram any of the buttons on your device to launch the program. I have my voice recognition speeddial button reset to launch the program. Press it once, it turns on, push it again, it turns off. No need to hold down any buttons.

It would be perfect, if it were mixed with this:

In Nargalzius dialer I like the graphics:
1. A "call" from the main screen
2. Buttons "Call" and "End" in the conversation's screen
3. Buttons in the conversation and without screen's image in the background (if it is not transparent, still better).
Could someone do the same? The project was abandoned by the author, then there is no more updates and the smartdial do not work.
Duronmarcel's dialer is much better because it has smartdial and 3G, and if someone could only replace these graphs that I said (or all of them), it would be perfect (at least for me).
In short, I would like to graphics version of Narg in the release of Duronmarcel.

What's up with the specs re: vibration?

http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Athena
It doesn't get any more obvious than that.
Thanks!!!! to the the guy who suggested recording another phone vibrating and using the recording as a sound to simulate the vib.
I do want my new advantage to actually vibrate, so I'm going to play with some low frequencies to see if I can get something that resonates with a hunk of hardware somewhere on the unit to produce soemthing tactile.
Other than a headset (I love my PhoneAlarm), does anyone else have any solutions to the lack of vibrating? Heck, my HP5555 vibrates, and it's not even a phone.
Creative ideas I like. Funny, or just stupid ideas are better!
hi
as far as i know, the point is that htc discard the vibrate feature because of the microdrive. and a proof of that is that a guy in a german forum dissasembled his athena and found a mountpoint and connection pins for a standard vibrating motor. like you can see on the pictures he put a motor of another mobile in, and it fits perfectly. the problem you wil have is to enable vibration in the software, and even if you manage that you risk your microdrive.
greets mad

In short someone tells that he had to open his Athena to get some metal dust out of the speakers and found the connector.
Then someone else mentions that there already has been a discussion about this and that the vibrate feature wasn't included because of the microdrive.
Possibly interesting is the mentioning of the idea to include a flash disk into the successor of the Athena.
At the end there's some short talk about using a headset with vibrating feature.
Short: Nothing interesting going on.
Thanks for the summary. Any mention if he actually hooked it up and edited the registry to add vibrate to the ring sequence - to see if its still software enabled?

Correct me if i'm wrong...But doesn't some Nokia phone have the vibrate motor built in the battery, couldn't we use similar technology with a few programs and the design of this type battery to get the phone to vibrate? I mean I do have the Jabra BT8010 and it took about a month to get use to that thing vibrating on my ear, and even at times when I sleep it and forget that it's on, it's annoying enough to make me jump up and reach for my pistol...
Anyone know which registry key must be added/editted to enable the vibrate function?

He states that he just put it there to look at it (he probably means for the picture) and is fully aware that there is no software control for it.
Also was he reminded of his old 3210 and is missing the vibrating function in meetings.
Short: No, not even an approach
I would give up the microdrive for the vibrate. That's only thing I miss from my hermes and kaiser. Heck, the microdrive is not real realiable anyway. I have had to re-format it twice in 6 months.

This page describes the settings I know of. I don't know if there is another setting somewhere (or some driver needed) to enable the vibrate. I just know that the vibrate command must be in this key:

If you will instal HTC Home on Athena - you will have possibility to get vibrate sign instead of loudspeaker .
Maybe it will be solution
Wow. Nice to have something in English....
Thanks so much for the concise translation!
I guess I won't be recording my church organ's 16-foot pipe.

Change "Incoming Call Screen" ??

How can I change the "Incoming" call screen? Because the standard looks ugly... und it's hard to use with the fingers...

I'm totally agree with you, I use Pointui and all the interface is made for finger navigation, but when there's an incoming call it looks ugly like you said, it doesn't fit with Pointui. Surprising that nobody thought about It.
Use S2U2
doesn't work ... already posted in the thread...
I would also really like to be able to change the incoming call notification. A big nice answer / reject screen that covers the whole of the screen would have been really nice.
When you think about it - it's quite a basic skinning request.
Then again - [email protected]#$soft is real rubbish and they can miss the most obvious things in everything they do.
no one skins that because everone uses s2u2 !
here is more softwar (not freeware): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1978809
Get a Diamond Comes with a nice big button call screen.
There are a lot of programs with big and nice call screens. U could try InesoftAddressBook. Its also a contact app.

that is a good concept, can any developer design that caller notification for qvga devices????
Is there a solution that doesn't require me to change anything else, only the incoming call screen?
S2U2 is nice, but I don't want the app to be my main page, I don't need the lock feature, want to keep my device as it is, only have a nicer and bigger incoming call screen.
InesoftAddressBook: same problem. I don't want to change my contacts manager...
You can disable the Lock part of S2U2, and leave it as just a CID program...
i made this one for the inesoft caller id.
If anyone can work out how to disable the default CID screen, I can make a replacement. (In fact, I have a replacement, it just gets interupted...)

That would be great if you can do that. I've been looking for years to find a small app just to do a full screen CID...

+1 With inesoft AdressBook, you'll change your incoming call interface.
Try it and you'll keep it.
Inesoft Address Book skins the dialer with an easy to use finger-friendly incoming call screen.
My current idea is a small piece of software that's memory resident, and pops up when it gets notified of an incoming call.
Using the .NET CF, that part's not hard, and the pick up/reject is easy to do via virtual keystrokes, but so far, I haven't found a way to stop WM showing it's own CID screen...
The main reason I have for this is for FSD (my dialer), but if it can be done, I'll release a stand alone CID program.

S2U2 will not be your main page. If you choose not to lock your device in S2U2 settings then only time you'll ever see it is when someone calls you.
