Good idea. Thanks.

We needed this. Its hard to keep track of builds in all this chatter. This post should be stickied. Thanks.

Post should be stuck, BUT you need to annotate certain builds. The 2.0 builds don't work with the Vogue, there is no data or sound... Some of the others may be unstable. Check the threads and see what the deal with each build is.

Are you talking about eclair? It's working absolutely fine for me, sound and data. Latest basefiles and new rootfs from NAND thread.

Oh really? Last I heard it was in an undeveloped alpha state.

Perhaps using an eclair themed build? I'm using one it's actually a 1.6 I beleive.

A build themed like eclair should work yes.

Just a bump to stay on first page.

I think this thread was a good idea. Too bad it is not maintained. Unless there is some other way of easily locating all the different Android builds out there that I am overlooking...
I think we should organize it by chef so that each chef's most recent builds are lumped together. If a chef has more then one build a brief synopsis of what distinguishes one build from another might be appropriate. For example one might be a “bare bones” build and another might be “everything plus the kitchen sink” type build.
Just an idea...

That is a good idea, I would also suggest to add what works in the build and what doesn't (sms, camera, bt etc...) as well as speed, and if loadable via the memory card or NAND.
Cheers,
Nas

Oh man, thank you for this!

Great idea putting all these in one easy to find place. For sure needs to be sticky'd. Let's get some talk going about what the advantages are of each build.

After using most of these, SenseHERO is in my opinion by far the best build. So much more stable, really fast and a lot of fun to use. I'm getting more and more used to Android and could one day see using it full time on my Vogue.

ROM Request - Vanilla AOSP 2.1

I am not knowledgeable enough to do this myself, or I would. I would like to request a plain AOSP 2.1 build ROM for the CDMA Hero. I figure since the kernel source code is out and Android 2.1 source code is out, this one shouldn't be too difficult to achieve.
I'm not big on the extra apps in a ROM either. I'm talking almost barebones. I don't want Sense either...just a plain AOSP.
Anyone want that too? If so, add your comment here and let's see if you can get someone more skilled than me to do it.
I also realize that it does take time to make a ROM, so if this doesn't come to fruition I'm not going to get upset, but figured I have nothing to lose by asking.
Thanks
yeah would love 2.1
i love the bottom menus with the dots instead of drawer and new icons
i hope its like this onedaylol

A plain just from source build would be right up my alley as well.
I also would like. Anyone want to start a donation pot for the dev that does it? I would donate.
Me too. Just like the Nexus One, no Sprint-specific apps, but also no funny stuff like adding apps or changing colors. What is AOSP?

LOLLL
I usually hate posts like this, but the situation DEFININTELY called for it
Sweet, Advanced On-Board Signal Processor, got it.
Uh, that's a joke btw.
+1..... a fully functioning plain vanilla 2.1 ROM for my Hero!!!
This may take some time.. Although we have the kernel, from my understanding there is still some porting that needs to happen to the 2.1 code so that the AOSP will run on our phone with all the different hardware. HTC was right on time with this release i was two days away from ordering an n1 from google. guess ill stick around and learn as much as i can and see what happens
yes please. as plain as possible
You can use flipz 2.1 Rom, turn sense off, and that would be a 2.1 vanilla Rom ...... that is what I'm doing right now for the moment

Besides having the hero apks, does this ROM (when sense is turned off) look and act like the Nexus 1 ROM?
(I would try it for myself, but I don't wanna go through the hassle of wiping my device and restoring all the info/data)
Thanks for answering my question.
PS: I actually like Hero's Phone, Contacts and Calendar a lot more than stock.
Yeah, I would definitely be interested in this too. I just switched over from a Touch Pro a few weeks ago, and have been reading up on Hero ROMs, but none have really caught my attention too much yet. I'm not usually a fan of all the HTC goodies....
(Also, I'm a new poster here.. This seems like a better place for Hero stuff than where I was over at PPCgeeks)

If only
The kernel source is out, yes, but for 2.1 to run at its best, it needs to be running 2.6.29 kernel version, which is not released (for our phone). I'm working on a port, but so far it doesn't boot )) and others may be in the process of doing the same.
There are other projects to get AOSP 2.0.1 and 2.1 on the phone, and those have been working with the 2.6.27 kernel, which is not going to run as well as intended. Of course all it'll take is replacing the kernel, hopefully, and I'm sure someone will make a breakthrough in porting the kernel soon

[POLL] Which ROM do you use daily

Wanted to see who uses what 2.1 based ROM as their daily ROM.
- DarchLegend
- DarchVanilla
- DamageControl
- Fresh
- RegawMod based on DC
- Other
Main reason for me posting this is to help people that are undecided make up their mind as to which ROM most people use for daily use the most.
DamageControl 2.05
I always seem to go back to Fresh.

Me too, but don't get me wrong, I've tried all the current ROMs and all the Devs did great jobs with what they had... Lots of man hours and hard work.
Right now I am on Fresh but in the last 2 weeks I have used DamageControl,Freshhh, RegawMod
right now im using pancake 1.5 without rosie installed. fastest there is right now.
i might give fresh 2.1 another try today though?
Running Fresh ROM because protected apps is a deal-breaker for me.
I'm using damagecontrol 2.05. Pretty good in my book. I did use fresh, but I seem to like damagecontrol more.
Fresh all the way for me. I have tried the others but speed and stability is always good in Flipz builds.
Flipz by far makes the most professional roms. He doesn't release roms half-assed or with 20 patches to apply. Flash one of his roms, install apps, your done.
No offense to the other rom devs but they seem to break more than they fix. I couldn't even use EVDO on Damageless's 2.1 but on Flipz 2.1 it worked perfect(couple hundred kb faster). Since they were built from the same release, what explains this?
So fresh roms by far, they aren't necessarily the fastest but if your trying to have a reliable phone then its the way to go.
you don't really need a poll to figure this out... just look at the thread views
I'm rollin' with bikcmp 1.5 ROM with all the lil visual mods I made to my liking.

I have to agree with this statement. I have run quite a few roms and I keep coming back to Fresh because his stuff works better.
I'm using my own ROM based off of DamageControl 2.1 with my own fixes and ports. You'll see a few of them in DC 2.05. I borrowed many elements of TrevE's port of the Darkstar theme to give it a much more "polished" look. I also added a few of my own visual mods. I stripped it down to the bare Sense, with almost all of the widgets removed except for the clock and people widgets. ROM size is 79.5 mb.
This is the most stable build I've used yet.

fffffffffffffffffffffffrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
You should probably split darchvanilla and darchlegend in your poll. those are two completely different roms where one is using a sprint hero base and the other is using an htc legend base
REGAW 2.02p
Was using DC 1.1B6 but wanted to get up-to-date and as close to the sprint release as possible. Regaw adds a couple of apps that 'most people' won't need but his list of fixes over DC 2.0x is pretty astounding. That and he worked with Damageless on it to some degree anyways makes it a winner in my book.
I might be looking for something with friendstream on it soon though if no-one gets it working on these latest DC based releases soon. I've been thinking about going with a DarchLegend or one of his stripped down versions to give friendstream a run around the block.
All in all it's an exciting time to be a sprint hero user. Even when all these phones with faster processors and bigger screens are running around these great dev's allow us to keep up pretty darn nicely and still treat us well here in the forums .
I always seem to switch between Darch roms and Fresh roms.
I'm using Fresh because I was missing to many protected apps in the marketplace. Very close 2nd is Damage, but just couldn't find most of my paid apps.

My first Android was the Mytouch 3G and I used a couple of different ROMS. I've used CM's, Chromatic and SuperD/SuperE and Dwangs. Out of those, I preferred to use Chromatic, followed by CM, then SuperD & E. CM is the only one that has shown full-bore development plans for the Vibrant, although I would love to see a Chromatic version down the road. I retired my MT3G on Chromatic 4.5 (Froyo). Being what it is, I will take CM over the current crop since I have experience using his. This is just my opinion, but CM is pretty much at the top of the field in development. I'm sure others might disagree, as we all have our favorites.
yeah he isn't actually going to do it...
wouldn't leave Bionix 1.7 anyway if it was ready

Vanilla android. For me it's a stable platform for the themers, which means I can have my phone looking awesome...since I don't have time to learn how to theme at the moment.
Ive ben in android since the g1 and I've had like 9 different android phones. Cyanogen is like the michael jordan of the modding community. He always has the most anticipated releases. He has three newest and greatest features. He got so popular that people wanted his roms on there phones so that's why here is working on other phone models. But there are alot of great devs out who are doing a great job now too but cyanogen is just the most popular.

The biggest difference between Bionix and Eugene, and CM is that the CM guys are building their rom from scratch, using AOSP source code they are getting it working on Various systems. Similar to what to what the manufacturer did originally.
Bionix is taking modifying the work that Eugene and Samsung did. He is doing more "finishing" work. The stuff that is done right before a release.
The other guys are doing more low-level code stuff.
All of it is hard work, so I am not trying to belittle anyone who does this stuff for us.
I am just trying to simply explain the differences. On a Dev team in the world, there are many people working on projects and each one has his or her part in that project. The project couldn't exist without each person playing their role.

[Q] Gingerbread + sense

Edit:
Hi, I have a question. Since a couple of weeks I use MDJ GINGERBREAD ROM. I prefer a "Sense" ROM but I couldn't find one smooth as a native one (more or less).
The point is, is it expected a smoother sense ROM under Gingerbred, or it will not be a significant improvement?
In addition I suppose the base for a sense gingebread rom would be thunderbol
What I've heard, is that Sense on gingerbread roms isn't possible yet as HTC didn't release any gingerbread compatible sense yet.. so I guess it won't be possible untill a phone comes out with native gingerbread + sense..

There's not even an offical Sense that runs on Android 2.3.1
Thunderbolt runs on Android 2.2
Do a little bit of reasearch before starting a thread about non-sense
Additionally, considering what features you want from sense, you maybe able to get them on your homescreen or wherever with widgets.
The Mods have just tidied up the forums, and still people insist on starting question threads in the development section.
That's why we have a Q&A section.

You can give Fancy Widget Pro a try, it has some beautiful flip clock skins. The free version is limited, so to enjoy the full package you need to buy it.

If you want to get sense earlier on new builds, you need the source code of sense so xda can port it, but too bad it is not possible, even if u got it, it is illegal as sense is actually owned by htc so you should not reverse engineer it...

Boot to Gecko Port

Hey guys,
I would like to port Boot to Gecko to our HTC Desire HD
Perhaps you know Boot to Gecko, it's the new Linux based OS from the Developers of great Firefox.
It is in an early state of Developing but it runs on an Samsung Galaxy S2. There are others out there who are also would like to see a port of it on an other Device.
Here and here for example..
herrsch0rdev wrote here that we just need to replace/add some drivers, perhaps a talented Android ROM Developer ore some one else who can help or poste some information or knowledge reads this and can provide help.

Good idea, but why not wait till the final version comes out and then port it on our devices? Even if you will port it now, people won't use it as a daily, but only to see how it works. I suggest you wait for the final version and then port.
Hmmm... I love panel 4-8, but those massive icons are a turn-off.
No widgets? I like clock/weather and facebook/twitter and whatnot.
Bringing this thread up again because I found a port guide from mozilla

Would really love to see this live
Firefox OS look promising and running on our device would be so awesome. wish i could help in development. but would be able to help in graphics and testing once someone picks up the task.

I'm wondering if this would be any sort of solution now that HTC has abandoned us. I mean I don't see ICS or JB fully stable any time soon(maybe I'm wrong.. I'd love to be wrong to be honest)
..wondering how they would make it work for our phones(driver wize), of course maybe it would be just the same "ship" with different name.. either titanic or britannic the fate might be the same as these too.
I guess will have to wait and see..

Ahem, jellybean and ICS is pretty much as stable as needed.
Latest JT and Pacman roms are pretty much bullet proof, MIUI has some lag issues. If you're getting reboots try disabling HW overlays
ICS is as good as done, I would even say that Sense roms are more stable than non sense, and overall I feel they certainly match the stability of sense 3.5.
but......I would love to see a gecko port!

P.S. android 2.3.7 is stable, ICS and JB ..hmm not ..working and in a very good state but not near stable at all.
