I have Pm'd the author of WM Longlife (before you ask) but he can't remember which device he took the screenshot from.
I have found the Office Mobile and Games Icons quite easily and used them in my WM6.1 menu screen as per post #9 of this thread but I can't find the others.
I guess it may be that the folder icons are not on the Topazas standard, in which case is it possiblefor me to import them if someone uploads them onto here?
Many thanks.

im searchin' these icons, too. Can some post the path to the "System Tools" Icon please.

The icons are inside the shellres.dll. You need to edit that dll with a resource editor to change them.
dwizzy130

Thanks Dwizzy but I'm afraid that doesn't mean very much to me - I'm not very teccy.
I've looked in the Windows folder an the dll you mention doesn't appear. (there are some with similar names)
When I created the Office Mobile and Games folders as per the thread I referred to the icons appeared automatically as there was an icon.lnk in the folders. When using explorer though, these .lnk files are no longer visible.
I just tried to create a new .lnk file in a folder called Applications but the files dissapeared afer I rebooted!
I'm just fumbling around really so if you can give some more detailled guidance that would be kind. Thanks.
Adam.

Well the icon.lnk is just a shortcut pointing to the actual icon resource inside the shellres.xxx.dll (Or other dlls). For example, inside the icon.lnk for the Games folder:
1#shellres.dll,-8229
That's all it is. It tells the folder what dll to look in and the -8299 refers to the exact resource number.
Also, are you using WM6.1 or WM6.5?
If you are using 6.5 then there is a much easier way to do this....
dwizzy130

I'm using WM6.1 (When I saw all the comments on here from people that had upgraded I decided it wasn't worth the hassle!)
Are you able to tell what the resource numbers are for the icons in question then?
Thanks.

Not sure if it helps, but I attached all icons that are stored in the shellresxxx.dll file. You should find at least the icon files for the folders inside.
For creating shortcuts, use Resco File Explorer or another free file explorer.

Thanks for the reply BeeGee but I think those Icons come from WM6.5 and I'm using 6.1.
Do you remember that the reference for the Games Folder Icon is: shelres.dll,-8229. Its the equivalent for the folders in question that I'm after.
I also don't have a file simply called shelres.dll. I have three called:
shellresapps.192.dll
shellresapps.96.dll
shellresapps.dll.0409.mui
I've tried using three different resource editors but none will find the phone in the directory tree and I therefore cant get access to the files. I also can't copy the files to my PC because they are protected.

been searching for these icons for a while. there you go...

Drag and drop BMP or BRN files onto the main icon to convert to the other format.
Tested on: My Sprint HTC Touch
It's a bit more user friendly than the command line app, and also converts both ways - from bmp -> brn and from brn -> bmp.
Application (requires .NET 2.0)
Source Code and VS 2005 Project
Thx for this application. I will try it today. It looks very comfortable.
Edit: I tried it, and it´s very fast, also i can convert all files in one step. Very, very good.
Ok I must not be using my head. This is made to work on your computer right? You need the actual phone hooked up?

Awesome little app
Should make life a bit easier.
Thanks!
any one have problem using this program? I can load it without problem, but after I drag a file to it, it just apears almost the same as the 2nd pic in OP's post but without the preview and the progress bar. And no new file is generated then.
this just awesome, I don't know how I missed this app, it makes everything so easy, I'm surprised there isn't that many reply to this great little application.

ITS CLEARLY WRITEN TO DRAG AND DROP ON ICON NOT IN WHITE SPACE......HEHEHEHEEHE
I can't get the .exe to run on my desktop, keep getting "program has encountered a problem..." WTF? Could it be 'cuz I have .Net 3.0?
OK, it runs on another computer here, so no worries. But I get the same thing reported above--nothing happens--and I *AM* dragging onto the icon in Brn Converter. Any ideas?

Hmm..not sure but it could be a permission problem. Just checking, but did you copy the brn from your touch to the PC. Then dragging the brn files from the PC into this proggie? You should see bmp files of the same name getting created in the directory where the pc's brn files are. If you've done all that, then i'm not sure..but probably the developer could shed some light..
I take it all back--and you're right. I had the .brn's copied from the Touch, but into a network folder. Once I moved everything to a local drive, it works just fine. Live and learn. Thanks so much....
This little proggy is just the thing i needed. Din know it was so easy to use.
Was afraid that the images will suffer a loss thru the convertion but all turned out great. thx.

pick the color you want for example RS_Bar_blue.png and RS_Ind_blue.png and rename them to RS_Bar.png and RS_Ind.png then copy to \windows folder and allow to overwrite the original ones, I included in the zip file the original color just in case you want to go back to it.
Man, great work Poorlyduck, let me just give this thread a bump. I used the yellow random access along with the other yellow cube and htc home icons you provided, my mogul looks real nice! Thanks!
Poorlyduck,
Excellent tool. Hopefully will be appended to a ROM or 2 somewhere, with your permission.
Thanks for the excellent work.

thank you guys for all comments.
@wacky.banana you definitly have my permission to use them anywhere you want, enjoy!

Among all HTC's shipped softwares, random access might be the most practical one. However, it's black-grey bar just doesn't see eye to eye to roms with non-htc-black&grey-interface. Your work just make everything perfect! thank you a lot!!

However, besides Active Sync (which I cannot kill for some reason) there's nothing running. How can I overwrite the files?

you cant overwrite the file from the pc to your device if its protected, so you need to move it to storage card or somewhere beside windows folder, and use your device to move the file to windows folder.
I cannot get these to work at all. The files on my device are read-only and I cannot replace them from my PC or when I put the files on my storage card and try to copy them into the Windows folder. It gives me an error about memory and making sure the files aren't read-only or in use. Any ideas?

first make sure contacts (random access) is closed, leaving the app running will prevent you from changing the images. Then using resco explorer (or any other 3rd party file explorer) copy the files from teh storage card to the random access folder (typically this will be the \windows folder). If prompt with a warnign about overwriting ROM files, go ahead and ok the prompt.
That didn't work for me. I downloaded Resco File Explorer and copied the files from my storage card to the windows folder, overwrote the files and nothing changed.
I've had the same problem - tried the storage card, tried Rescoe - what else can I try?
welcome to my world! I can't seem to get random access working on my touch either....says it doesn't have perms to install....aggravating...

Crud Scraper - automatic uninstaller

Hello,
I just wanted to announce a little app I wrote in response to a request over here.
In a nutshell it just goes through your device, checks against a list of software in a config file, and lets you check off the ones you'd like to uninstall. Then it removes those apps from your file system and the registry.
This is my first windows mobile app. It's fairly simple, but if anyone finds any bugs, please let me know.
Right now there is only a config file for the HTC Tilt 2. If anyone would like to write a config file for other devices (Rhodium or not), I've included documentation on how to do so, and I'd be happy to help.
You can grab the Tilt 2 version of Crud Scraper here.

So essentially this is an uninstaller that gets rid of everything left by an app?

Can you post the cab right here? I have an aggressive firewall that I don't control that prohibits your linked site as 'Free Pages' ..sheesh!
That sounds good and i will test it on the Rhodium 100 aka Touch Pro 2. Will report later.

I ran it after having removed 90% of what it scrapes, and it worked like a charm. Thanks, great utility!

I didn't even realize the files could be hosted here as a normal user. I've just edited the main post of this thread to include the file you'll need.
Bear in mind that it's not a cab though. It's a zip file containing an exe and a config file for the Tilt 2. Just save those to the same folder on your device, run the exe, and the rest is self explanatory.

I have a CDMA phone (Verizon Rhodium 500)and would love to give it a shot.
Tried it on my Tilt2 unfortunately, I didn't have the option to remove the programs I installed the app to remove. Looks like it needs somemore development to be able to select everything on the phone. I can't comment on how good it works because I didn't remove anything. I do appreciate the effort though.

What app(s) specifically are you referring to?
The only apps it removes are the ones defined on the wiki entry defining the crapware here.
If I know what apps you'd like removed, then I can add those apps to the XML file that defines the list of apps to check for.

HELP!!!
Ok, I'm at my wits end. I've downloaded the zip, extracted the files & copied them to the phone (was drag & drop ok?). I can't get the program to launch. I just get windows offering to run out to the web to find a fix.
How do you execute it? I don't see it listed on the phone itself so I thought I should do it via the laptop on the .exe that was on the phone.
Does it matter what OS is on my laptop?
AWESOME!
Just want to say that pyromosh is awesome. Walked me thought what I needed to do.
For those that don't have Framework 3.5 - you need to install that on your PC then dig down in that folder to get the 3.5 cab file to move to your phone and install.
After that, it works like a charm.
On happy Texan gal here.
great program, pyromash....
i was directed to this thread because I'm trying to delete the actual .exe files from the Windows folder (plus some other stuff like the bloat mp3's)... i tried with File Explorer & Total Commander... these delete attempts all failed...

Did you check in your phone canvas package? If it's not visible in there it may be in one of the .dlls like phcan.dll or phcanrc.dll (I can't remember their exact names), but I'm pretty sure it's an image that you can see if you open up your phone canvas package. If it's in a .dll, you can use a program like Rezhack to open and edit .dlls.
Anything like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10697671#post10697671
If this is the same issue I have then I believe its the .dlls phcanhtc.dll & phcanrc.dll that need modifying, however I don't know how to nor have I had any help in how....
The images are 'Dialer_Contact_down.png' & 'Dialer_Contact_up.png' and should be in the phonecanvas package.

to edit dll's you need 'ResHacker' (resource hacker)
quick tutorial:
drag and drop the dll OR exe you want to edit onto the ResHacker.exe and it will open. everything inside the dll OR exe will be shown and you can edit it, eg icons
select the icon and right click
now replace resourse with your custom icon
*the number on the folder is the icon number - not the number on the icon
to make your own icons i suggest you use 'IcoFX'
install IcoFx and open it.
got to TOOLS/BATCH PROSESS
add images to that you want as icons
*dont use transparent images, it will turn out crap
select 48x48 and XP Colours
save
now go to TOOLS/RESOURCE EDITOR
click the 'add icon' and add the 'new' icons
now save but put .dll at the end of what ever you name it as
this creates a dll with your custom icons
cba explaining the rest but if ya realy wana know - pm

OK, so what does your dialer look like now? Is there no dialpad icon at all now?

Quicklinks Folder Shortcut

Howdy All,
Firstly i hope I'm putting this thread in the correct folder. If not, could the powers that be do some magic and move it to the appropriate topic.
Preamble: Using blackSTONEhenge (cookie and now slim) it bugged me that I had to have quicklinks to specific programs and not to specific folders e.g. Games or Office. After lots of searching, and I do mean lots, I managed to do this. credit must go to pgriffith in the Touch Diamond forum, and others.
Solution (for Games Folder shortcut): Unzip the _FolderView.exe in the zip file found by following this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416092 post #3
Using Notepad, create a .lnk (that's .Lnk) shortcut file with the following:
66#"\Windows\_FolderView.exe" #\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games\?shellres.dll,-8229
Click to collapse
and save as Games.lnk. Don't forget the .lnk at the end.
Copy and Paste to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder. You can now add the Games folder to your Quicklinks. The beauty about this is that uses the ROMS start menu and not File Explorer.
I tried the same with Office folder and it worked, except the icon is, as you can imagine, the games folder. My next challenge is to identify the Office icon number from shellres.dll and even better the HTC Sense icons. If anyone can help, it'd be much appreciated.
PS: If this has already been discussed, kindly ignore.

if its just the icon you want to change then make an icon and put it in the windows folder, name it something random and create a link to the icon then lable the link - icon.lnk... now put the icon.lnk into the folder you want to have the icon for, eg games/office... any folder to be honest.
but.. swiftly moving on:
when i made my rom i created my own dlls and icons for folders, using icofx.exe and reshacker.exe .... ive uploaded my dlls below..
the icons inside my dlls are:
windowsfoldericon.dll, -1 = WINDOWS FOLDER ICON
windowsfoldericon.dll, -2 = OFFICE FOLDER ICON
windowsfoldericon.dll, -3 = TOOLS FOLDER ICON
gamesicon.dll, -1 = GAMES FOLDER ICON
