Bluetooth not working, is device broken? "Problem Solved" - HD2 General

Hi.
I am having some trouble with my LEO!
When I try to enable bluetooth trough comm manager, I recive a message that says "can not enable bluetooth".
When I am going on advanced settings menu and touch the bluetooth icon it gets highlighted but nothing happends. All others connections and icon do work perfect.
I have had my device for 3 days, and have never tryed bluetooth on it before. I have stock ROM on it.
Hope that someone can help me with this problem.
Sorry for crappy english! =)

Do you have TomTom installed on your machine? That navigation software can screw up the Bluetooth stack on the HD2 by installing and overwriting WM stock bluetooth files...

Yes, I have tomtom installed. Is my only option hard reset, and never use tomtom again?
When device is starting up I got a warning: BTTrayCE.exe is not a valid pocket PC program.
Any ideas?

It's very simple to fix this:
remove BtCoreIf.dll from Windows folder and softreset.

Thank you so much! It is working perfect now! =)

You're welcome.

Same problem, trying to apply the same solution, but can't delete the file. I've tried with Total Commander but it says it can't! Any ideas what the 'user error' here is?

Please check if the attribute of the file is ROM.
If is ROM, then you have the original file.
If ROM is not set, then try to soft-reset the device then with the native file manager choose "Show all files" and delete the file.
Then soft-reset again.

It is read only, system and in ROM according to Total Commander. The native file explorer has now lost the delete option completely! Properly stuck now!

It's a normal behaviour of the file Explorer. You can't delete a ROM file.
You have the original file.
Try to delete BTTrayCE.exe, then and then restart.
It will be restored automagically.
Let me know.

That is also a ROM file and won't delete.

Ah!
I don't know, then, what is the problem.
What type of issue you have on your mobile?

Exactly the same as the OP, when the phone starts it has a Bluetooth Error, then won't start Bluetooth.

Ok, but you can write what message you see, exactly, please?

Factory reset will fix it, and was for me the only way to get it to work again.
For fun.. Try your FM radio. It does also not work anymore!

Sorry, I can't help you, then.

Yes, unfortunately in some cases it's impossible to delete the files modified by the TomTom install. At first I have done a hard reset, too; then I prepared a modded TomTom CAB file without the BT drivers so that now everything works fine. If you should need it, I can upload it somewhere.

Hmmmmm! I'm not going to run a factory reset until I can put HSPL and a modified ROM, it's a pain not being able to use my bluetooth headset, but not worth the hassle of reinstalling everything. While I'm waiting I'm going to try out loads of other bits of software and workout how to use Sashmi etc to make it much easier to restore everything when I change ROMs.
Drakknar, if you could upload that file somewhere that would be useful, not just for me I'm sure. Maybe email it to the guy who's doing the hints and tips thread to attach it to that perhaps?

I'd be glad to share the link with everyone, but I think that posting a link to TomTom Cabinet in XDA-Dev would be against the rules. If it's allowed, I'll send the link to the author of the tips n tricks post, otherwise I can send a PM with the updated .cab to those who are interested

GPRS Monitor

I cannot install GPRS Monitor from myO2 CD, it says i need to update my ROM, i did a corporate install btw
Anyone else had any probs?
Another forum member had this same problem when installing the ClearVuePDF Reader also supplied by o2 as part of the HTC application suite. He has the MDA, but flashed with the o2 Exec ROMs and then installed in Corporate mode.
From work we did together, it appears to be just the install program that was not validating his device. When I tried a hard-reset and Corporate mode install, I had no problems installing. However, its beginning to look as though a hard-reset does not totally clear the Exec's memory. In his case, I found all the individual files and registry settings needed for ClearVuePDF to run and he copied those to the device. Runs perfectly for him like that.
So I'm afraid you'll have to find somebody with the o2 version of GPSMonitor installed and get them to determine all the files/locations and registry-settings needed to get it to run. Unfortunately I don't have a GPRS connection or GPRSMonitor installed.
Just a thought. Have you yet tried a full o2 Personal mode install on your device? It just might be this action that puts 'something' in memory that is not cleared by a hard-reset, and that 'something' might be what the install program is looking for.
Sorry that I can't be more helpful.
No problem thanks for your help

I did a basic install and I get the same error. Sorry, Not much help though.

Me too. The ClearVuew PDF reader is rubbish! Text misalighed all over - Adobe with pixel doubling is better than this.
Please try this
Could one of you having a problem to install the o2 supplied GPRSMonitor, please try installing the attached .CAB after copying it to your device.
This CAB is extracted from the CD-ROM install program, so hopefully skips the validation stuff. With luck you might be able to get around the failed validation by installing from this CAB.
Note: Even if asked to install to Storage Card, the o2 supplied version (2.3.0 build 600) puts very little there, most goes into device memory. The current version 2.41 from spb will obey the instruction to install to SD-Card, but wasn't reliable when run from there - the monitoring part aborted four times in 10-minutes whilst I was playing with it.
Unfortunately, since I don't have the install problem, I can't test this install out.
It works a treat. Thanks muchly!

Am I glad about that - I was in the midst of trying to locate all the files/registry entries needed for a manual install.
Perhaps I can go to bed now!
I also managed to 'locate' another copy and it works fine, thanks for all the help.

I can confirm this but with other files. After several hard resets (even with the clear storage icon), the pictures I had taken were still there.

Ouch! I didn't realsie it was as bad as that.
The situation is made worse by the backup program I'm using (Sunnysoft Backup Manager) not backing up all the data and settings. Neither does it perform a true restore - just merges the backup with what's there after the hard-reset.
Unfortunately, I'm used to HP's backup applet from the Jornada 928; which performed a total backup/flush restore. Are there any other applets for WM5/universal that really performs a full backup/restore?
Does anyone have this cab please? I have just bought a new O2 exec and am having the same problem with it saying my ROM version is too old!!
sorry ignore that post! Work computer blocked the file out
I am running my XDA EXEC in basic mode. When I tried copying the .cab file to my device and running it from there , still get the problem.
Any suggestions ?
I was running personal mode then switched to basic mode, could this cause the problem.
Thanks for you replies in advance.
Cannot remove GPRS monotr app
I installed this file to test it out om M3000. Unfortuntely I cannot seem to uninstall it now! It doesnt show up in my Program list - How do you uninstall it?
I looked in the \\windows folder and removed all files and shoretcuts I could find, but its still showing up on my 'today' screen with an error.
Any ideas? The registry?
Cheers

Linuxgeek:
I was also getting the ROM version problem installing programs to my SD card on my O2 exec. Since I'd only just added the card and was running the basic installation, I did the following:
1) Hard reset
2) Personal Install
3) Re-install ActiveSync on PC
This did the trick. Thankfully I like the Personal install best anyway, but I don't know if that step was necessary.
Tried it. Still get the problem :-(
My mistake - I managed to install the Clearvue PDF program, not the GPRS monitor program. I'm still getting the ROM version error with the GPRS monitor program, but I've not tried the above download yet.
Anyone got any other ideas to fix this problem.
Shame O2 don't have an update to fix this problem on their website.
I've now tried the CAB posted above by astage and I can confirm it worked for me. Just copy the CAB to your device and then open it to start the install.

Smartdialling option missing..

Hi Guys,
Just got my K-Jam today. The smartdialling.dll file is there, however I don't have the option to enable it (nor does it work) in the phone app! Any ideas? I'd rather no hard reset again, i've just got the apps on!!!
TiA,
CK
did you try to install the smartdialing cab?
go to \Extended Rom (eg with the free Total Commander)
and find a file with something like 'smartdialing' in it s name. make a copy of that file and then execute the CAB so that it will be installed.
probably you will have to shutdown your device completely after this to get the result.
another option would be to do a hard reset and let the applications install from extended rom on boot, but I guess you will prefer the first way...
hope that works for you, it did work for me...

Can't display DarkLoad battery meter on HD

I have downloaded the .cab, installed it through the HD and onto the device (rather than card), but it doesn't show up anywhere I can think of; using Total CE or programs or in the settings windows.
Any ideas how I configure it?
If I try to install the cab again, it says the old version needs to be uninstalled, which I tick yes, but still nothing.
Thanks
Doesn;t work for me, but in my HD I can uninstall it through the delete programs menu in Settings. But i still don't know why it won't work.
Sorry, my bad explanation. I can uninstall it okay, just that when I try to install it to make sure things were okay, it says that the program is currently installed so it must be in there.
I am not going mad then!
Regards
I installed the .cab file for Massimo's coloured top bar and then Darklords bat meter & it works fine for me.
Have you changed anything else on the topbar?

I had to rename the "shellres.192.dll" part of the taskbar files to "shellres.192.dll.0409.mui" to get this to work on my HD. If this doesn't make sense, read through the thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437307. Not sure if this is the only solution, but certainly worked for me.
I have cab I made with the renamed file in there, but can't upload it from work. If you can't get it working before then, I will upload when I get home tonight (EST).
Oh, and be sure to have sdkcerts installed. Same thread, at bottom of first post.
Cab upload problem...
I can't get the Cab to upload. Not sure why, as it's only 3MB. Anyway, if you want, I can send it to you if you PM me an email address.

Lost BTTrayCE.EXE

Could any kind person post me or email me a copy of BTtrayCE for TP2 as I accidentaly deleted mine and now I can't use Bluetooth.
Info of the file path would also be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi clark97
That's wierd because normally if you delete a file in the ROM you just soft reset and it appears back.
Cheers
andrew-in-woking
Cheers , read in another post its because I installed tom tom 7.450 which overwrote it, for some reason a soft reset isn't enough and you need to either recopy or hard reset.
Thanks for reply
Clark
did you get your bluetooth working again? i have the same problem, Tomtom has killed it! Hard reset seems to be the only way to get it back on....
BTTrayCE.exe you will find this file in the \windows\ folder and a link in
autostart(i have delete it, i dont need everytime bluetooth on,
i have a link in the programm folder),
B2T.
when TT overwrite it, normally you can delete it(with TC or Resco)
after a Softreset you have the original BTTrayCE.exe back...

I had the same problem myself but found the answer on this forum:
TOMTOM places a new BT dlls under the windows folder that I had to remove:
\Windows\BtSdkCE30.dll
\Windows\BtCoreIf.dll
You can either ename them or remove them and then soft restart your Touch Pro 2 and everything will go back to normal.

Thx a lot !
Lost my BTTrayCe.exe (in fact, not that lost, rather the phone told me : "BTTrayCe.exe is not a valid WM application") after installing TT7.
After renaming the file all came back to normal.
So once again : thank you !
Thank you, that solved my father's problem
Problem solved.
Hi,
I had the same problem after installing TT7.
After renaming the two .dll files all was fixed after a soft reset.
Thanks you guys for your great advise and work.

TomTom disables Bluetooth

Hi,
I have a problem with TT7 on my HD2.
After installing TT7, the phone starts up with an error message: BTTray something is not a valid program.
And that disables Bluetooth completely.
I wonder if anyone else has this problem and if there's a fix for it.
The TT version is 7.916.9189
Any suggestions appreciated,
M.

Hi Exlo,
I didn't find BtSdkCE30, do have a BtSdkCE50 instead, but wasn't sure if that should be deleted as well.
I've deleted the BtCoreIf.dll and although Bluetooth still works after installation, TT doesn't run: Invalid Windows Mobile version.

Hello,
I've had the exactly same problem that you have, I couldn't find any solution so I just made an Hard reset after having saved all my pim data with My phone. If you can't find a solution maybe you should do so.
Good luck there.

TomTom overwrites 2 files:
\Windows\BtSdkCE30.dll
\Windows\BtCoreIf.dll
renaming these 2 files (add .bak extension or something) and performing a soft reset should restore the default dll's and fix the problem.
If that doesn't work:
I used a cab file for TTN that's HD2 specific.
Don't recall where I found it (usenet maybe, or through a messageboard), but it skips the bluetooth dll installation.
Filename of th cab I have used: HTC_HD2_TomTom_7.916.9189_vga_black_nobt.cab
Well known problem
This is nothing new. TomTom installs have been doing this since version 6. You'll need to 'Show all files' in File Explorer to see the BtCoreIf.dll and the BtSdkCE30.dll or you can use something like Total Commander.
I've done this on many devices and it all works fine so long as you delete these 2 files and then soft reset. DON'T delete anything else though!!!! That'll probably screw your Bluetooth up.
i found that tomtom stops my FM radio working!
Yes TomTom messed up my Bluetooth, FM radio and ?WiFi too.
I was only a day or to into my ownership so didn't mind a hard reset.
I copied all TomTom related files to the storage card before the hard reset.
When it rebooted I copied the navigator.exe as a short cut to the start menu. It has worked perfectly since.
