[HOW-TO]Bypass google activation on Android devices - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Ever got stuck on the "touch the Android" screen when you don't have network & cannot skip the registration?
Well, there is a simple solution:
Press all 4 corners of the screen one after the other clockwise, and TADA - you're on your home screen.
Start from the top left corner, then top right, bottom right, and then bottom left. Will work ONLY in this order on the myTouch3G.
This was successfully tried on both myTouch3G and Verizon Droid.
Edit: Tried it on a stock G1 running cupcake and it did not work.
Looking for someone with G1 running donut to test and check if it works.

how do you touch the corner without touching the select language and emergency call??

I agree, and I wish it were that simple........... Doesn't seem to work on the G1 at least.

This needs more testing.

If this simple method works that would really rock.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough - attached a picture that explains exactly where to press.
This worked on a Droid & myTouch3G. I will check on G1 & Cliq next time I'm in one of the T-Mobile stores.
Please check and validate it works for the G1.

Where is sort-of clear, How needs clarification.
Tried it like the picture. Lets try a little more detail... Why does the droid have a square around it and the number 1?? Is the droid the first touch and then it's #1 again in the upper right corner and so-on? Are we talking about holding each one down as you press the next, Or just one at a time?? Are you holding down the droid and then pressing each corner individually and letting them go?
I think I tried all possible combo's with no luck.

again, my bad.
Press only the 4 corners. Don't touch the Android. I was using that photo that I found on the net and didn't think it will just be more confusing.
Just press the corners according to the order of the red numbers.
This is the method used by store reps to bypass activation in order to give a demo of the device.
Update:Just wiped my phone and tried it again, and it works.
Please try according to the attached pic.

Just tried it. It works. Took a couple of tries, though.

On my G1
Tried it MANY times. Fast, slow, far from edges, close to edges, fingers, thumbs, after a fresh reboot, holding down each one as I press the next, standing on my head while I whistle dixie, hopping on one leg, etc. NOTHING

worked fine on my white htc magic with eclair running
nice one no real use to me but it works
ahhhhhhh

i cant seem to get it to work on my g1 either

I've tested it on a stock G1 running cupcake, and it did not work. It does work on myTouch & Droid.
Would appreciate it if someone with a G1 running donut will try it as well to rule out the build issue (1.5 vs 1.6).

reflashing blind?

My still under warranty 6900 has a totally black screen. I can see that the backlight is on- it is the actual lcd that is black and the phone will receive calls. (I can't see if it goes to bootloader since the screen is black) Presumably, this has nothing to do with the nsfan6.5 ROM on it.
Verizon CS told me on the phone that if they sent me a warranty replacement then found it to be water (or physically) damaged, they would "have to" bill me for the RETAIL value of the phone. She gave me the option to take it into a verizon store to have a tech first OK the replacement to avoid this possibility. He OK'd it and is should be here shortly.
Is there a way to get it back to stock rom while not being able to read what is on the screen? For that matter, is this even worth doing or will VZW not notice?
PS- I'm trying to decide what ROM to put on the replacement phone- Android is tempting but I think I'm going to wait for the smart people to finish getting stereo bluetooth and standalone GPS all sorted out. I'm sure I'll play with it on the SD card in the meanwhile. Thoughts?
I realized I should add:
On the phone I need to send back, I have the bell (complete with ugly blue start up screen) 3.42.50 radio and whatever nsfan 6.5 build was most recent back then.
To accomplish the flash, I also have a 2gb microsd card (with reader) and have downloaded the stock verizon rom.
Also, the touch screen appears to work (vibrates on touch) however, no amount of guesses with random screen touches could get the phone to connect with activesync or tether (sadly, the last type of connection I made was as a removable drive). In other words, things might not be where they are supposed to be on the screen so telling me to tap at pixel 120x200 (or wherever the "next" or "ok" button might invisibly be) may or may not work.
thanks again!

LOL, thanks. I just logged on to say I'd figured it out. It finally dawned on me that 10 months ago i'd noticed (or heard or something) that you didn't need the active sync connection going if you entered bootloader first.
Fantastic. Many thanks.
Just in case someone reads this trying to do the same thing: I saw elsewhere that you need to run imcoke.41 before reflashing with stock ROM so that's what I did.
Correct?
I think you need to run the .40 unlocker, not the .41
.40 is supposed to be overwritable, .41 is not
I've been using .40 before I send back my phones. When I flash the VZW ROM it usually errors out the first time, then you follow the instructions on the screen(pc) and it takes the second time.

HD2 wont turn on

Hey everyone, my hd2 died (original 1.48 rom), I already tried soft reset, hard reset, put out my battery, charge it and everyhting that came to my mind but when i turn it on it wont go further than the first htc image.
Is there anything i cant do or should i just take it back to the shop?
Thanks
I would take it back, even if you do fix it. You don't want a phone that may still have a underlying problem.
Htc HD2 BRICK Need HELP!!!!!!!

I used HSPL2_1024_RUN.exe i flashed like 5 roms within 24hrs i was trying them out and this one made killed my hd2.
for those stuck on the htc boot image
take off the back cover of the phone and press the little red button, this will restart the phone
AS SOON AS you press it, press and hold the volume down button this will bring you to the bootloader
connect the phone via usb to your computer and flash a different radio rom (look first which are compatible with your rom)
if this doesnt work, using the same method flash back to your original rom.

for tmous with 1gb rom NEVER flash a radio with .51. in the code.
still haven't seen anyone recover from this. if anyone has please let me know.

Sorry to hear about people's problems. Just remember if you have TMobile
USA there is NOT a way to flash another rom onto the phone..Just give it time the wonderful folks here are working on it. If your still in your 14 day grace period just return the phone to the store and play dumb. You might
have to wait for another phone since apparently they did not anticipate
how many people wanted this phone and sold out quickly. I know I was there
at 6:30 and the second in line and they only had 5!
Anyway, the most important thing you can do here is DO a search!

sorry? sure about that? seems to me lots of people have successfully flashed their tmous hd2.
It only goes wrong if you
1 - flash a rom based on anything less than 2.10 rom
or
2 - flash a radio with ..51.. in the version number.

I do not see a little red button under the back cover. I am in the US, just bought phone, slightly used of course, no warranty. It suddenly went dead this afternoon while charging, will sometimes try to power up but will just keep flashing that one screen "stick together" over and over.....
Tried another battery, same thing.

Mine is doing the same thing . . . in the US, the reset button is right next to the SD card slot, and it's yellow. Mine wouldn't come on Friday, and I started a web chat with Tmobile to see if they would exchange it, and then it just came back on. They said as long as the white sticker at the top of the battery compartment is still white (proving you didn't get it wet), then they will exchange it. It worked fine for me the rest of the weekend (AFTER I did a hard reset, and got it running great!!). This morning, I locked it while running MobiTV, then I couldn't unlock it, so I pulled the battery. That was 2 hours ago, and it still won't come on . . .
If it doesn't come on before I leave work, I'm taking it to Tmobile tonight!!
UPDATED 20 minutes later: Just came on . . . no rhyme or reason why?? Just started after MULTIPLE times of taking out and putting back battery, SIM, and SD card. Got the same error that I've been getting the last couple months on reboots (services.exe)?? When I did a CleanRAM, it free'd up 3.36MB . . . so SOMETHING was hung up, but nothing was running in the task manager??
Generally, few task managers show what's really going on with the phone's memory. Use an advanced task manager which will allow you to control the actual processes running on your device, Google for the names of those which seem to cause mischief and terminate them (if possible) or try to find a solution.

Hey I am also Tmobile User and I have flashed a few ROMS luckily I have not Bricked my phone (knock on wood.) I was just wondering how your return went? I have insurance on mine and figured I would just take it back if that happened. I just didn't know if that would work? Did you ever get a new one
Another update . . . used my phone all afternoon, and tried to charge it, and it wouldn't charge??? Luckily, my husband has the same phone, so I checked his with the same charger. Compared the two phones, and the prongs that hit the battery were bent back. I folded them back down, and now it can charge again. Makes me wonder if that is the problem with the phone not coming back on? Maybe putting the battery back in so that it wasn't hitting the prongs has been keeping it from turning back on . . .

[Q] Sticky slide to unlock (again) advice?

Ok guys heres my situation.
Im on my third streak, the first one the earpiece stopped working, the second one had the stick slide to unlock, i got my third one today (o2 very kindly gave me a second battery and back cover!)
But im annoyed to see that this new one still has the sticky slide to unlock. I know there are some apps i can use to get round it, but it seems a bit odd for such a device to make it hard to answer calls!!
Anyone know why this happens, is it a hardware thing or is it the rom?
Or any advice what i can do, its on contrat from o2, anything i can do?
Thanks
I'm just guessing but it seems to be a that the screen just becomes un responsive. I can use the side buttons but I can't get the touch screen to work. almost as though its been disabled.
this happens less with 2.2 and I use the menu unlock from knobs. it means that I hardly notice it these days.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I have read many people have this problem as a result of keepingthe phone in their pants. Something about the screen being in a constant discharging state that messes with its accuracy.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Yea I guess that makes sense, but where do Dell want us to keep it!
Any way to stop this happening?
Well I use a holster for mine. Considering the reports of 'pants stress' cracking the lcd underneath the glass, I don't want to take any chances. Plus it makes a nice fashion statement

i had the same problem with the sticky slide to unlock, i'm on the o2 2.1 release, i fixed it by rooting the device and editing the build.prop file. look for build.prop under system, search inside and find "debug.sf.hw=0" and change to "debug.sf.hw=1" ...no more sticky slide to unlock
if your on 1.6, you might want to try the same.

hmm... seems i am not alone. I have encountered exactly the same problem. the top bar of screen become sticky after i keep the device in the back pocket.
i am going back to the O2 shop and try to get it fixed or exchanged...
the conclusion is ---never keep it in the back pocket!?
FWIW. i had the same problem. Took my screen protector off it hasn't happened since then although im still curious as to why i never had this problem with 1.6. Lets just hope its resolved in 2.2 then i can put another screen protector on

my one is on 2.1. no protector on at all.
i just return it to the O2 shop. the guy told me they need to return it for repair.
i just wondering how will they repair it??? Hope i will get another brand new device from them at the end. Or get it fixed without charging me anything...
need to wait for maximum 10 days for a call from the shop...
Mine was in for 'repair' I got it back one week after putting it in, it was a different phone.
But it's still just the same.
I'm going into o2 tomorrow to see what I can do, I'm going to try to change it for a different phone, maybe a hd7

what is the rational behind it? why have to make the change? why it work before without the change?
i will ask for model change as well if the problem can't be fixed by O2.
1.6 has the option enabled.
2.1 and 2.2 don't
By enabling the option android will use the phones GPU for graphic nit its CPU
Well I don't agree with the pocket thing. When I was on 1.6 never had issue with it being in pocket. When went to 2.1 is when it all started. 2.1 was horrible with 2.2 being slightly better. As far as editing build prop mine is already set to 1 not 0 so that must not be the problem either. Has to be something in the code somewhere or 1.6 would have had same issue.
I just thought id update this with what's going on now.
I went up to the o2 store in Glasgow and spoke with them, they told me to ring customer services so that they could escalate my problem, when i phoned they told me that the stare has to do it. So I handed my phone to the guy in the o2 shop.
The short of it is that the only way forward (unless i want my 4th streak!) was to put a complaint in and the store manager will 'look into it'
One interesting point is that two of the staff told me that its a known fault!! Dell have admitted there is problem, of course o2 blamed dells software until I said that I was using the o2 2.1 rom (the guy quickly changed the subject)
I will be paying them a visit on Monday again.
Here is my update: after 3 days including weekend, I got my replacement back. it's a new one. Which make me believe DELL didn't spend anytime for repair. Seems they just replace it for me straightaway. I agree that 'it's known issue for DELL'
I got extra back cover and battery!
the ROM version is 1.6 which disapoint me a little bit. offical 2.2 is coming anyway...I will hold my horse for the upgrade this time. just to rule out the rom issue.

Is this in reference to the debug.sf.hw...?
...Wouldn't you WANT the GPU for graphics, and NOT the CPU...?
Isn't that the purpose of the GPU...?
I'm on 2.2, enabled debug.sf.hw and the issue is resolved.
No sticky slider. No side affects. No performance change.
...untill I hear a valid reason...it stays

the crap did that do? its fixed more than the issue with my sticky slide to unlock. i had an issue when a dialog would make that fadey background thing, the phone would slow down horrifically but this fixed that. im quite happy now, knowing not what that actually fixes.
There seems to be more to the problem
After weeks of faultless operation, I started noticing a sticky slider again, also weird touch screen behaviour
After clearing all caches and restarting the phone, I'm all good again.
I think 2.1 was just hobbled together
Bring on 2.2

[Q] G1 Test unit

Brief history. My wife has a G1 and apparently she has not been able to download apps for sometime now. When she took it to Tmobile for them to check out, they said,"you must have downloaded a corrupt app from the market, we're sorry, but we can't fix it. Meanwhile, she was not allowing me to root it, and possibly finding a solution. So now, we got her an HTC sensation, so I can have her phone to play with. My quest is to fix the phone to prove to my wife that I know more than your local Tmobile rep. With that being said,"What do I do?" JK I know where to start, I just wanted to know if there is any relationship between the G1 and this corrupt market issues as I spent most of my time in the Thunderbolt forum. Thanks in advance.
do you want to root it? or just wipe it out? you can do many different things.. not sure what the relation is with your market not working

Root and wipe, basically just make it right again and to show my wife the benefits of rooting. Before a complete wipe though, I would like to see if there is any validity to this "corrupt app" and "not fixable" statements made by Tmobile reps. My first roadblock seems to be the sim card, I don't have one, and can't find a way to root w/o it yet.
Options-
-Use my wife's current sim card (its a 4G sim now for her sensation, will it still work), but she would probably have a hissy and not let me use it
-Use my sim card from my Tbolt (which requires an unlock code)
-Find a way to root w/o a sim all-together
I am sure with a little more investigating, I'll find a way to make it work.
Why not just boot to recover and wipe?
Turn phone off.
Press and hold "HOME" button, press power button, keep holding home.
When it gets to the "!" screen, open keyboard, press ALT-L.
Then press ALT-W (W is for Wipe).
When finished, reboot.

yes try that first!! see if you can get it to work... you will need her sim just for a second so you can get by the google sign in... than if you connect to wifi you can remove the sim, ad if you still want to root the device follow this guide here...
[Guide] (8-18-11) G1 How-to: Root, Un-Root & Everything in-between
you can do this whole guide pretty quick, and you only need to use your wife's sim card for 1 second... just to sign into google once you get to 1.5.. than you can give it back to her and do everything via wifi, let me know if you need some more help..
Done, finally! This might have been super simple for any of you to do, it took me a total of about 8 hrs to get where I am, which is successfully running cm5.0.8.
This process was made more difficult by not having an activated sim card, and not being connected to wi-fi to even set up google.
Using adb I found a way to bypass the google setup when you have an "expired" Tmobile sim card inserted, but to use adb I needed usb debugging enabled, and I finally figured that out.
Now to hopefully make this long story shorter, I am now flashing whatever rom I wish to run on a phone in which Tmobile said was not fixable.
The phone is, in fact, way better than any stock g1 could be.
The current rom runs great on it, (I aslo run cm7 on my Tbolt), and all market apps download and run correctly, to the contrary of what the Tmobile reps said.
Well, I guess I'm done. If nothing else, I said I could do it, and I did it.
Now maybe a little respect from my wife.
Well, the TMobile rep succeeded where it matters to their manager, they sold your wife a new phone!

question about installing a stock 2.3.3 firmware onto at&t branded play 4g?....

I have a at&t unlocked play 4g working with my tmobile and the at&t 2.3.3 has bloated apps they installed. I found a website that has a stock 2.3.3 firmware for an r800at and install it onto the phone with flashtool, now is this a vanilla 2.3.3 gingerbread or is it going to install the same way the phone is now with all the at&t apps n stuff?
If not what will be required to install a stock android vanilla 2.3.3 or even the new 2.3.4 onto the phone and Im not rooted btw just unlocked. Thanks

The 2.3.3 R800at FW I found has all the AT&T bloat. Just install the generic 2.3.4 R800a FW and it will add features (screenshot, tethering, etc) get rid of all of AT&T's bloat including some of the games (it will add Tetris and Bruce Lee but get rid of Tbloxx My City and SIMS 3). Sony Ericsson's bloat will still be there but it is MUCH more manageable.

I got it from the "Xperia PLAY Super Compilation" thread on these forums and just used Flashtool to load it. It couldn't use cellular data until I manually entered my APN settings (it would fail to get it automatically and suggest going to Sony Ericsson's website), so you may want to write them down or back them up with an app first. You do not have to be rooted.

When you say cellular data you mean the internet right like having a data plan on your plan right? If so... I dont have to worry about that since I never had any data plan yet
Why does the stock at&t firmware pick up data plan? Why not the 2.3.4? Thanks Again

the stock 2.3.4 FW meant for the r800a does not have the APN settings for the AT&T r800at which is why you should use a apn backup app or write them down.

Yep, but it does go online and try to retrieve them. Supposedly, it can only do this over WiFi without APN data in the first place but I have tried that and it still fails. Also, when it attempts it without WiFi, you can see the HSPA "H" logo appear in the status bar for a moment and it *IS* online for that moment even without APN settings (you can load a web page if you request it at the instant).
Now, I think I finally figured out why it was sometimes saying that it wasn't connected to the Internet even though it was and was successfully loading the page even while the error was displayed: When you back up and restore APN settings or flash from 2.3.3 R800at to 2.3.4 R800a without wiping user settings, there are TWO APN entries, only one of which works. The first one is the one I needed to delete. I couldn't select it anyway (radio button would always go back to the second APN settings entry). I first tried deleting the second one to force selection of the first and I lost all data until I restored my APN settings from my backup again.
Ok so I just followed the " Little flashtool tutorial" guide from " Logseman " on this forum and just flashed my 2.3.3 USA play 4g at&t r800at to the latest north america 2.3.4 r800a firmware.
I got 2 questions:
#1: After the flash the flashtool said in the log this:
"For flashtool, Unknown Sources and Debugging must be checked in phone settings."
What does this mean and do I do this?
#2: Also I notice when the phone is on the locked screen the tmobile word at the top right corner under the time is there but when I unlock it to the home screen the tmobile word goes away, is this ok for this new firmware? The gingerbread 2.3.3 alsways displayed tmbole word all the time. Thanks
One more question I also notice when doing a cold turn off and back on it even takes longer for it to boot compared to the at&t branded firmware is this normal too? Or maybe because it was the very first boot and it was arranging files and such? Thanks
Sorry more questions where is or to get the xperia games icon that was on the home scrren with the stock at&t firmware. I know if I slide out the gamepad it auto opens it but sometimes I use the icon without always slideing in and out the gamepad?
Not a complaint just want to learn if its a reginail thing to specific roms or something but when i go to xperia play and then more games it has all or some of the games in the list that the stock at&t rom had but this one even has more games I never heard of and some are free. why is this? thanks

The debugging is mostly if you want to root right away or do things over the ADB interface. You don't have to do it.
How did you get it on T-Mobile? Unlock code? Unlocked bootloader? Mine only says AT&T on the lock screen. It does take longer on the first boot as it creates cache files and such. It saves space in your status bar.
The icon has been renamed from "Play Games" to "Xperia(tm) PLAY," which doesn't quite fit in the portrait mode. Find it in the app drawer and make another shortcut to it by holding on it a second and then dropping it where you want on the Home screen. The "More Games" section changes all the time. The Bruce Lee game is new. I used Titanium Backup on the AT&T ROM to backup TBloxx My City and SIMS3 and reloaded them on the generic FW so I have all of them showing in my launcher.

Yes the very first boot took long but now it boots fast like normal.
I unlocked it by removing the battery and peeling off the white sticker and then on the bare circuit board theres two contact points that that you use a paper clip and touch both contact points with each ends of paper clip after of course you straighten out the paper clip first, then while holding u plug the phone to the computer usb port for about 10 seconds and that will unlock a locked xperia play 4g.
And yea the tmbile wording is at my locked screen it just goes away once unlocked to home screen, but I thought if I remember right the stock at&t rom had that t-mobile wording all the time.
Thanks
came in to help but everything seems answered............pctektgg check your inbox
I beleive for our phones there isnt any unlock codes, you have to do the procedure that I did.
After removing the white sticker underneath the battery, lay down the phone vertical/upright but the back of the phone still facing you/up.
Then turn the phone to the your right so the phone will be laying sideways.
Then while looking down at it sideways look towards the top left corner area of the green circuit board you will see gold contact points area, well right there theres 3 little circle gold contact points in a row, well the ones you want to touch/jump is the 1st and 3rd one which the 3rd is the last one. Dont worry about the middle one.
What I did was have the usb cable plugged in to the pc already before doing this, then used a paper clup to make like a u-shape then used it to touch the contact points.
So I first make sure the contacts are being jumped/touched and hold for about 10 to 15 seconds but after about 2 seconds into it being jumped/touched I plugged in the usb cable into the usb port on the actual phone and keep holding like this for about the 10 to 15secs i mention above.
Before doing all this make sure your windows has the sony pc companion installed and the drivers for your phone are working within windows and such.
After doing this pop in your sim card and put battery in but dont put sticker back on yet and battery cover, If you still get the sim unlock pop up, do the steps couple more times, if it doesnt work then you will need a special tool to install on the pc for this procedure to workl then. Heres the link where i got the unlocking procedure.
try these free steps incase they work before buying it for 25 bucks or so. If my steps are confusing then yea I would just buy the procudere from this website I give you and you'll bne good to go. Just dont waste time trying out different websites for a code cause there isnt any.

PS: You do this all without the battery in, only after you want to try to see if its unlocked you put battery back in.

I'm pretty sure that this only works when you have SETool or are remotely connected with someone who does and has software for accessing your USB ports.

Yea I think your right about a setool program because I just looked at the email that unlock website I mention here sent me a link to download the software and instructions to do the procedure I explain here and with that software running and when finally plugging in the phone to usb cable of the last step then about about that 10 seconds of holding the jumper on the 2 contact points the software pops up with a windows saying "unlocking done".
I had my wife plug the usb to the phone side since I was holding the phone and paper clip with my hands, thats when she told me about the pop window saying its unlocked.
The software they give you even has a youtube video built in into the software to show you the exact steps involved and they use tweezers instead of paper clips.
I was just hoping this will work without that tool software but I guess not.
