[Solved] Start Menu organisation - Deleted shortcuts keep on regenerating !! - HD2 General

Hi everybody,
Like on all my PDA devices I like to organize my Start Menu in folders.
No problem to create folders on HD2. I've moved and organized all the shortcuts in this folders.
The point is some shortcuts are re-created in Start Menu root : shortcuts to HTC Calendar, HTC Footprint, HTC People and Music
Is there a reg tweak to prevent this ?

hi another question on this topic, does deleteing items from the windows\startmenu folder stop apps from working or are they just shortcuts as i installed apps like sktool/memmaid and it add shortcuts to items i dont use like quick clean and stuff and i dont want them but if i delete them will they stop the cleaning from workign in the main app?

No that's only shortcuts

ok thanks will remove some then
thanks

I would like to know as well... it gets really annoying as they keep on regenerating!!!

I have the same problem: deleted them, but they insist on coming back.
Oh, well

I can't find a way... Search in th registry but nothing !...

I have that same. Renegerating are only HTC removed icons like calendar, people, music. And its become with empty white icon.

Yes exactly white icon except HTC Calendar...

its because they are rom files. once you softreset, the device automaticly restors them.

Thats not it. They are being created by Manila. It appears to be related to the personalised tabs option - if you disable a tab it removes the icon.
If you use Total Commander to set the icons hidden + system, then soft reset they wont show in the start menu.

How do you do that ?

Show -> Treeview.
Navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Select HTC Calendar.lnk
File -> Properties
Tick Read Only, Hidden and System
Repeat for the rest...

Argh
Doesn't work for me. After a soft reset, the shortcut are still there

I just tried that, but the icons appear after a restart.
Annoying!

Right, sorry, that was my fault! You have to set read only + hidden + system, otherwise it still overwrites the icon. I had this set but only incase i changed the tabs later, I didnt realise it was required.

Yes it works !
* Show -> Treeview.
* Navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
* Select HTC Calendar.lnk
* File -> Properties
* Tick Hidden, System and Read-only (Keep Archive ticked)
* Repeat for the rest...
Thanks a lot !

How to reduce Recently Run programs in Start menu ??

I found a CAB file that actually deletes all the Recent Programs from the Start Menu - but is there any sort of Registry Hack that reduces the number from 5 to just 3 or 4 ??
Help !!
i think it just fills the recent menu entries until the menu reaches a maximum vertical size. Removing all of my other start menu items, I've just got a start menu full of Today + 11 recent progs. Silly, but I don't use Start button - I use Smallmenu. Much better!
V
There is a way to do this. Very simple In this recent programs section you see only the shortcuts to applications stored in Programs menu. But if you divide your shortcuts into other subfolders in the main Start Menu folder (in Windows) then those shortcuts will not appear in recent programs after running those apps Reeeealy simple
I have such subfolders in Windows\Start Menu:
- Games (I move here all games shortcuts)
- Office (word, excel... )
- Internet (Messaging, IE...)
- GPS (TomTom etc)
- Multimedia (WMP, BetaPlayer...)
- Programs (which is obligatory)
I also have one more folder called "Other" inside the Programs folder, where I place shortcus to apps that I rarely use. There also I created "Junk" folder for stuff I never use, but don't want to delete the shortcuts, incase they might come in handy. But shortcuts to those applications inside Programs or one of the subfolder of Programs will appear in recent programs section if started.

small start menu

Hey, some time ago i changed some things on my HTC HD and one of those things is my start menu. When i open the start menu i see a list of smaller icons than you see in the standard start menu. In the beginning you only see the 7 programs that you want your start menu to show. But somehow i've changed my start menu which shows the following now:
Agenda
Messages
Contacts
Internet Explorer
Notes
Telephone
-------------
//Recently opened apps
App1
App2
App3
...
-------------
Programs
Settings
Help
The problem is, is that i forgot how i did this... So i was hoping any of you could tell me how i did this.. If i get the chance all also try to add a picture of my menu and the default menu, so you get a better picture of what i mean.

Using a file explorer, you can add or delete new folders to your 'Start Menu' folder. Name them like: Web, Travel, Utilities, System and Media. Copy relevant shortcuts from you 'Programs' folder in your 'Start Menu' folder to each of these new folders. You will need to use a 3rd party file explorer to unhide system files and rom files to see the pre-installed icons to copy them to your folders. These icons are '.ink' shortcuts. Also copy the entire 'Games' folder and 'Office' folder from your 'Programs' folder direct to your 'Start Menu' folder. Finally uncheck all checked boxes in Menus in Settings page. This will allow all 9 folders to show in your Start menu on your home page, where you can access specific apps much quicker. Remember each time you install or remove a program/game, you have to either copy the new 'ink' icon to your category folder or delete it.
You can also use utility apps like HDTweak & Advanced Config to change size of Start Menu
If you go to Start/Settings/System/TouchFLO you also can change Start Menu size

Removing Start Menu icons

Hi, the HD2 is my first Windows Mobile Device, I've never used that OS before. So i got a simple question, is it possible to remove icon in the start menu? There's some like Facebook, Bing, Copilot, Help, Google Maps etc that I never use, so having them wasting space in the start menu is not in my interest.
Thanks
Open in file explorer windows\start menu\programs and delete shortcuts
Weiri cant find that directory :S

Deleted Icons Reappear
I have an issue with this on my HD2. I wanted the HTC icons (twitter, music, people, etc.) to be in a seperate HTC folder in the start menu. I cut the icons from the Programs folder and pasted them in the HTC folder that I had previously made.
Here comes the issue: after a while, the icons reappear in the start menu, while they are also in my HTC folder. The icons that reappear are blank.
Any thoughts?
Thanks a million,
Bruce

HTC Recreates Icons in Start Menu

Hi guys,
I have cleaned up my start menu (moved pretty much all apps to different folder). However, it appears that HTC randomly recreates some of it's shortcuts into a start menu (without icon):
HTC_Calendar
HTC_People
HTC_Music
Is there any way to stop that? I'd like to have a clean start menu, but those shortcuts reappearance messes it up.
hints and tips thread (sticky at the top of this forum)
42. Hide Reappearing HTC Icons from Start Menu
If you delete the HTC shortcuts to Peep, People, Messaging etc and reset, they always come back. To hide these shortcuts for good (not the apps just the shortcuts) use the tweak below.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila\IsShortcutEn able
Change to 0 and soft reset. You may need to change their shortcut's properties to hidden by accessing them in Windows/Start Menu/Programs folde.

Customising HD2 Theme

Hi All,
I am needing to customise a few things on our new HD2's automatically.
I've created a cab file that successfully deletes a bunch of unwanted shortcuts & make some changed to the IE favourites.
However, I want to disable HTCSense & also set a default background/wallpaper via a cab file, but I'm having trouble with this.
I've managed to semi do it via registry entries in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\
It appears to have disabled HTCSense & enabled the Windows Default 'today' screen. But I still get HTC Calander, Music, Footprints & Peep icons in the start menu, however they do not function. There are no .lnk files to delete to get rid of these...
And for the background, the registry entry is there & under settings\today it shows as being selected, but the wallpaper is not actually applying.
Thanks in advance!
So... Found the issue with the background/wallpaper... It doesn't actually use that registry key to select the wallpaper, its just for display on the Today settings page... grr...
Copied the relevant files to \windows\stwater_480_800.png & stwater_800_480.png & rebooted.
So now I'm left with getting rid of the HTC shortcuts...
Also, is there a way to force a reboot after installing the CAB file?
Cheers!
