Hello all, I read all the posts about how to root HTC Hero (Poland Era G2) but I still do not know which method is the simplest. I depend mostly to BT to work normally. Could someone give me links to the topics. Because I have already lost in this. Thanks

The fact you say you need bluetooth to work normally, in relation to rooting your device, suggests maybe a misconception on your part, so I'm writing this just in case that is true.
The method you use to root your phone won't determine what features it supports or how reliable it is. Once you root your phone, using any method you can find which works for you, you can install a custom recovery image (current AmonRa recommended).
When that's done you're then free to choose any custom gsm Hero ROM you like & that is what will determine the features & reliability of the device. It's also fairly easy to swap between ROMs so you can try several & very easy to revert to one you've already tried (& backed up via nandroid backup, a feature of the recovery image).
So it's okay to plunge in & try the various rooting methods, though obviously do follow the instructions carefully. I think theunlockr.com has some good video guides if you prefer video to the written word. Just google 'unlockr htc hero rooting'.
Argh, just realised the original post is two months old. Oh well. If you're reading do post back to say if you managed.
Right the DHD will be my 1st android phone. And just wanna know a little about about how to flash it with a custom rom. I Have tired looking up info threw google and XDA form but still seem a little mish mash to me.
Can any one provoide me some links to guides to flashing Android, What backup grograms you use just all about flashing. Had a HD2 i flash it for the the first time and i was like ohhh my god.... then again and again lol ,,. Just waiting for my DHD now .. bring it on

in that moment its not possible, coz its probably have root chip that will kill your root.
in the future: its very very easy, jest donload the new rom, put it on the root of the device,
go into the recovery or via clockworkmod at the android os, choose the rom and install.
you have more options, like backup, restore and wipe, but i can guses that you will get it very fast, its sooo easy.
Such a guide will exist when someone has figured it out. So far no-one has a device to try with, and we certainly don't have root yet. Keep an eye out in the ROM development section of the DHD forum and eventually instructions will be posted.
Hello.
I just got this phone, and it is UNLOCKED and stock 2.1 on it.
I would like to update to the official 2.2 and keep the unlocked, can someone point me to the right direction and tell me how that will be done?
I heard the 2.2 is not out officially, but it is leaked, so that leaked version is the full 2.2 stock or something missing?
I heard something about rooting, flashing, but I am not sure what that means as I just got this phone.
Any help appreciated.

root the phone 1st then download rom manager then pick a rom eugene's , sombionix, or master are all good read up on them and then pick one
down load it on to your computer then load into the internal sd card then reboot in to recovery or through clockwork (rom manager) and load it up.. If you can't follow read up on the sticky's in this forum it explains way better.........

Just like oka1 said, you need to root your device first. Then get rom manager from the market and install clockworkmod recovery through it. When your done with that download any rom you want and put it on your Internal Memory (Phone Storage) on the root of it. Then flash through Clockworkmod. Hope its enough. ;D
Words are sounding very complicated, but I am sure its not just need to learn how to do the steps....
Also the 2.2 will fix GPS, and have Full Flash browser right?

Look in the development forum or use search. It's all there, and trivial to find.

for the rom, go to the development section... There is a sticky called the bible. It has everything.
I personally would flash nero v3 (not the beta 3). Most on here agree it's amazing.
Also, Vibrant's are REALLY hard to brick... Worst case you can use odin to get back to stock 2.1. Thid is also covered in my signature.
Now, with all that said... Samsung promised froyo by year end. You may want to wait a few days (I'd still take nero over an ota, just giving you all the information. They may not deliver)

I would just leave it factory cause I see this ending in a soft brick and you freaking otu thinking you ruined your phone when you didnt
Learn how to use Odin FIRST, then learn how to root, then learn how to flash, all of this is covered somewhere in this forum.....search a little and you'll be flashing in no time.

The newest and greatest is Nero 3 by team whiskey, its a custom 2.2, but with a gingerbread (2.3) feel and look. They have been at it for a a while and this is a wonderful rom. Check out my thread in this (vibrant general) forum for links and all the tips you need just ask.

I have a new Magic (32b Google/Vodafone Ed) and I am hoping this is an ok question to ask... Any help, is much appreciated!
I've been searching through forums and seeking help wherever I can and not getting anywhere fast with information I'd like.
Firstly, when I bought the phone (2nd hand) it came with Cyanogen on it.
But there were all sorts of issues and so I had to do some fast learning, to fix it.
I managed to find out how to flash the phone, and reinstall the Restore functionality on the phone......
Once that was done, I was loving it and started installing apps.
I thought I had it perfect, so decided to install a theme (I didn't know it was untested) so when I flashed it, it locked the phone into a boot loop.
I spent 24 hours trying to understand how to 'fix' it as I restored a NAND backup which wasn't mine, and ended up with the phone back to it's factory default Vodafone Android 1.6 version with the old owners picture lock code!!!
A friend ended up 'fixing' it, I believe by getting a good copy of the default OS and flashing it with the fastboot menu.
After he did that, Vodafone here released an over-air update, so the phone is now running the default HTC Android version, but on 2.2.1
What I would like to know, is before I embark on the rather terrifying task of trying to put Cyanogen back on, is what are the benefits to rooting the phone vs the risks?
I understand that the risk of 'bricking' the phone is very real, and if I screw it up, I could basically destroy the phone, but do the benefits outway the risk?
I now have been given the Goldcard, plus install files for Cyanogen the original owner used to root the phone, so I am reasonably confident that it will work fine - as it was running Cyanogen beautifully (other than a couple minor glitches) when I got the phone.
If I root the phone and install Cyanogen, what benefits do I get over the stock 2.2.1 install?
IMHO the real true benefits from rooting is the complete freedom and the ability to really make the phone your own.the question you asked has been asked so many times and truthfully the real reward comes with actually rooting the phone yourself.
1. itll free up ram on the phone allowing you to do things faster(this depend on what rom you get too)
2. you can put apps on a part of your sd card which will keep your phone going fast just dont over do it
3. overclocking and underclocking to speed it up even more
4. the themes! me personally i dont care too much for themes people complain so much about them but its whatever.
5. the customization is really endless
the real reward comes with finally exhaling that breath after you first start rooting your phone lol.

As for the rest, you aren't able to change things like themes without rooting??
Pretty girly I know, but that's one of the main things I really want to do with it!
Being faster would be a help too as I have found over the past few days, that sometimes it can be quite slow..... Would Cyanogen speed it up a bit?

Most stable ROM's will help with performance, CyanogenMod being one of them. The myTouch has a CPU rated for 576 MHz(if I recall correctly), but it comes from the factory underclocked at 384 MHz. Most ROM's have an OC kernel in them and will just require that you install SetCPU to control the CPU speed. As for your worries about bricking your phone, nowadays you don't even have to have a Goldcard. You can simply root with one of the many one-click root programs, use ROM Manager to flash a custom recovery (I prefer Amon Ra, but you can also use ClockworkMod) and create a backup of your untouched ROM, and then flash a new ROM from there. It's really all quite simple now IMHO, unlike when I originally rooted my phone using the Goldcard method.
hmm, is there a tut for that somewhere? As the only tutorial I have atm is the Cyanogen one which requires a Goldcard, dropping back to an older version, then rooting the phone?
I'd love to see another way of doing it?
Here's one and there's also the z4root app. You used to be able to use Universal Androot, but the exploit it used was patched in that 2.2.1 update you got.
Do you have any idea if the HTC Magic is compatible with that? As if it is, it is looking most intriguing!

All three of the methods I mentioned will work for the Magic. The one I linked should work fine.

Here is the new problem...I would like to go to 2.2.1 ( the passimg.zip is 2.2) is there a way to update without unlocking bootloader.
I tried Androot and superoneclick....Androot gives me the Fugu message and SuperOneClick says its Rooted...but when I go to rom manager or other apps that need superuser...
I get this message : An error occured while attemting to run privileged commands!
So basically Root isn't working.
Also, when trying to install Cyan cm6...Rom manager reboots...but I get the Triangle with the exclamation point with the green man next to it...
Is it still possible to have my cake and eat it? ( locked phone, with root access so I can install modded roms)

I rooted FRG83D with superoneclick root, But if its not working for ya you will have to unlock the bootloader via fastboot. Then push a custom recovery. With the recovery you can install the su binaries.

You need to do a few things before you go any further. There are key steps you are leaving out that are just a recipe for disaster. I'll detail them below, in the specific order you should follow them. There shall be no deviation from this list.
1 - Put your phone down. Seriously, stop messing with it. Just quit.
2 - Read the Wiki that you've been linked to, in both threads, several times.
2a - Now that you've read the Wiki, really read the Wiki. Yeah, you skimmed it the first time, I know you did.
2b - Now go read it again. I'm sure you'll notice something new this time.
2c - Now go read the links in the Wiki. Explore those threads.
2d - Those threads that the Wiki links to? They have links in them. Go read those.
3 - Rinse and repeat all steps from 2a to 2d for, oh, about 4 days. During this time you are allowed:
To post general chit chat on the forum. No technical stuff, no help threads, no questions. Just read. If you have questions, you need to read some more.
No more than 3 app installs per day, from the market. Thou shalt not download and install any APKs from any source that is not the Android Market.
To tweak settings on your phone, provided those settings are all done via the touchscreen on your phone. You shall forget the acronym "ADB".
Once you've done that, you'll root your phone in no time, and you won't be worried that you've bricked it. Then, and only then, can you start asking questions.
Why? Because all of your questions right now are answered. You're jumping the gun, and it's obvious you haven't done much research at all. Seriously, go read.
I hate to be mean, but if you want to understand stuff, you need to try and understand it on your own first. You're here looking for solutions (that are already spelled out) to problems that you created (because you didn't read anything). Quit looking for the easy way out. If you want to enjoy your phone and the features of what you're trying to accomplish...put some work in yourself, and stop expecting everyone else to fix everything and spell it out. People here are more than happy to help, but you gotta start helping yourself.

I'll read...it just that I tried the cm7 mod ( i know its experimental) and the phone
would'nt boot.
With the help of the great people on the board, I got my phone working again but on FRG33 (2.2)
My last question was if it was possible ( or someone knows of because Ive checked the net) to root without unlocking ( androot and superoneclick that i know of) if I have FRG33 ( Because Ive been getting permission errors)
Finally, I wanted to know if a FRG83 stock image was available so that I could recover to it without unlocking bootloader. (or any other stock that lets me root without unlock)
I'll unlock the phone as a last option...I'm sorry...And if anyone is pissed at my posts ...well sorry I just taught some of you experts could help.

See? Looking for the easy way out again.
It's not about anyone being pissed or short on patience. Look at how frustrated you are with the situation. You're frustrated. Why? Cause you did it wrong. Why? Cause you didn't read enough first. Even after several suggestions, you still want it done, with help, right now, or you'll sulk about someone pissed and how no one held your hand through it.
Is it possible to do what you want? Absolutely! Pretty easy, too. But if you read and help yourself, you'll better understand how to update in the future, as well as how to root the future update. Or, you'll learn how to root what you have, and flash a pre-rooted stock ROM (yes, those are here as well).
So call me an ass, cool. You did in your mind, that's fine. But really, I'm trying to let you know what will help you the most, and that's having a better understanding of how to prevent a boot loop in the future, or at least how to fix it if it happens. Best of luck, man.

Here's the deal.
I did a one click root without unlocking the bootloader. Then I installed rom manager and flashed clockwork recovery. Then I did a backup ( both done in rom manager) then I went back into rom manager and installed cyanogenmod 7 and my nexus is now haxored gingerbread. Make sure you do a full wipe before flashing new roms and it'll always work.
I didn't update my radio, my hboot or anything like that. And it all just works and is dead simple. I would suggest trying z4root or universal androot and then downloading rom manager from the market.
How you managed to **** up something so simple is pretty funny dude.
I'm using an at&t band n1 with an smiled. Not the one with super LCD. I heard a rumor that the super LCD n1s have problems with certain mods. You might want to figure out what type of screen you have too.

OP, you have to learn the hard way. Stop using "newbie" as an excuse.
I was also a "newbie" when I first got my Nexus One in February. Everything about android was new and alien to me. It actually took me a couple of months of lurking in xda and reading up on tutorials before I took the plunge to rooting my phone. And I did not bother anyone on that. I made sure I understood the steps and triple checked every move I made in following instructions even though I did not understand them.
I also was worried about warranty and actually did the manual way of rooting my phone without unlocking the bootloader using some method that involved cutting a piece of plastic from my battery. That was nerve wrecking and no where as simple as the superoneclick thingy you have now. Yet I survived and I did it on my own.
I must admit that you have to be a little bit confident in using computers and have some basic knowledge of typing commands in cmd. But everyone has to start from somewhere.
Seriously if it's too much trouble or too complicated, maybe staying stock or going Iphone is a more comfortable alternative.

Also, I have bricked 4 phones (the provider took them back) fooling around...

Now I trying to flash clockwork...( when I download cyan 6 +google apps) it reboots but I get the triangle thingy...I click power volume up ( read that thanks) I get a blue menu...I kinda scared to click an option so I rebooted...I'm trying to use rom manager for updates because its really simple ...anyway
