Will prices drop? - HD2 General

Hey guys I'm new here. Joined because I am getting a Leo - except I don't know when. Do you think the price will drop in the next 2-3mths? The cheapest now is $799 and I'm pretty sure Canadians won't be getting this from the cell providers anytime soon.
How does HTC's pricing behave after the launch? Thanks

It's all about supply and demand... a few shops have put the price up do to demand!
It might be a while before the price goes down.

Of course they will drop ... the question is: when?
But I don't think we will see huge price drops like with older/other HTC phones, since the touch HD was quite stable for a long time, and the hd2 is even more hyped than the touch HD was.
Maybe 500-550€ in Q1/2010, don't think much less than that.

yea, but in 2-3 months its almost q1 2010 which equals a US hd2 version.. of course the price will go down, the question is how much...
in 2-3 months I'd say $599-699, depending on the masses and on the other telephone manufacturers

As long as there is no other so cool and powerful stuff, price will be quite stable I think.
In fact, HD2 is not that expensive for this quality and power

It's only 513 euros over here in the Netherlands, so I suppose that the price will drop indeed.
You'll have to wait before it becomes widely available first though.

peeh!!! here in sweden its like 600+ euros, and it won't arrive until 30th november
lucky people, enjoy!

The starting price for HD2 is not that high compare to the previous HTC high end phones. So, the price drop down margin is not that big. Also, they wouldn't want HD2 to stop old handset's sell.

where have you seen it for 799 in Canada? The cheapest i could find is like 950.

Price drop?
I bought my HD from Clove tech uk for AU$850 and the going price with telstra was $1500. Sure, Telstra dropped their price, but not to $850.
Sure, you can see HD's for less now, but too late. It's now old stock and who wants it.
In effect the price does not go down, it just depends where you buy it.
I recommend Clove. I have bought 3 phones from them. Price was competitive but no bull**** like from expansys or like, who take your money then you wait 3-4 weeks, even though it said 'in stock' on the website.

Dave.
You'll have trouble selling at that price. They cost £200 new.
If I had paid 200£ for it I would sell it for less, but I actually paid it 299€ so, it's barely impossible for me to sell it for less.
The Phone is without contract, so every SIM can be used, I don't actually pretend to sell it, but I try, if someone is interested I'm here ^^
Dave
Why did you buy it?
It seemed to be the phone for me.
But actually does not meet my needs.
It's a bit too slow and sluggish for what I need.
A better android version can resolve the speed issues (if the 2.2 really brings a 2x to 5x faster performance) but I don't actually trust HTC for this update, and "stock marketing e-mail replies" are never something good.
To say it briefly, I tried it, i does not meet my needs. And it seems it will never meet them

Haha, so your saying that if you buy it overpriced then you can take more for it then the acual new price? That pure idiocy, it like if you were to buy a
HTC desire for 600€ and then selling it for 550€ just because you paid a overprice for it then the original 400€.
well all you UK tesco fans, you can now get it for £179.99 with £20 free topup.
makes me a little sick in my mouth when i think of what i paid for it a few weeks back lol

Not in every country it cost the same ^^
Actually here the retail price is 299 - 270 € (Without brand or contract) . So I think someone can be interested.
Same thing for the desire, here it is 499 - 479.
Maybe it's more convenient in your country, but here it's not a crazy price ^^
Dave.
I brought the phone back to the store, willing to permute and buy an HTC Legend.
I discovered that the unit was defective, and it was much slower than the others in the store, what doesn't worked , I have no idea.
The only thing I know is that now I have a new HTC Wildfire (Brown and not White as before, shame) and work much better, no 3D obviously, but the sense now is smooth and the touchscreen reply faster.
No Reason to sell this now xD

I will buy one ASAP.
Why? Tablets aren't ergonomic. It's just some dodgy fad. You are MUCH better off with a netbook which is a convertable, because you can't use a tablet much except watching movies..
Whereas, a netbook convertable, you can use it as a tablet, and as a laptop.
I have like 3x netbook + 2xnotebook and just need this like 'big phone' xD
Better not be that much when it comes to NA. If it's anywhere near the price of the iPad, it wont sell. Too bad, I had high hopes.
I can't complain on price just wonder why:
- there is no AMOLED Screen
- no bigger battery ...
- no faster processor like 1.2 or something.
- WiMAX - 802.16e on 2.5 and 3.5 Ghz?
...
800 EUR is only the recommended price by the manufactor. Those are allways way of regarding to phone manufactors. The Galaxy S for example as a recommended price of 649 EUR buts sells for 450 EUR since it's start.
expansys always jack up their prices
they always charge like 200 more over other places
Don't forget that price includes exspansys tax. I'm guessing on a street price more in the lines of Euro 600.
550 pounds (USD 846, euro 660) from clove on pre order..
I think the price is too steep and it is a real pity that it doesn't have an samloed screen.
I think I will wait for the 2nd generation next on this one.....
this thing is waaaay too expensive.
I was expecting about 350-400 euros.
I'm not an apple-fanboy but it should definitely be cheaper than the ipad.
Despite the fact you can call with it, it shouldn't be more expensive then the galaxy s... The thing is bigger, no Amoled screen...it should be cheaper in production.
This thing is never gonna sell if it realy will cost bout 700 euro, never.
People won't use this as a phone and if it costs 700 euro, i would buy an ipad
u guys can find the actual price here
http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/02/samsung-galaxy-tab-reported-to-retail-at-699-and-799-in-europe/
Expansys always have prices like £100/£200 over what they actually are. They just want to be seen as the first to offer it. I bet this will be >£400.

Well actually you can't. It seems samsung havent released the pricing yet or at least confirmed it. So all these shops are guessing. Reading clove more carefully even their price of 550 pounds has a notice saying that the pricing is yet to be confirmed.
Maybe there is hope the prices might come down
It's going to be interesting to see exactly where this ends up being priced as I think that is what is going to make or break this device.
For me ipad will be the benchmark for price. At least 30% cheaper for tab to make it worth while.
Sent from galaxy s. JG4 + oneclick lag fix version 2.3
Cut that price in half Samsung!
Update: So we're hearing some conflicting information here. Samsung itself is telling us at IFA that no pricing has been announced and that any prices floating around are speculation -- but it seems the company has already announced a suggested retail prices of SEK 9,000 in Sweden including VAT, which works out to about $1,240 (or $930 without VAT). In other words, even after taxes have been removed from the equation, you're looking at a pretty pricey option for an unsubsidized device here. Let's hope we see some steep discounts on contract, eh?
Looks like suggested retail price is 1000euro ? 800euro looks like that will be price for this samsung tab.
Samsung Galaxy Tab Over 1000USD would you buy it?
The price and the spec of the galaxy tab is already out. You are expecting to be paying about £680 in UK for a 16GB Tab (around USD$1,050).
Are you interested in buying the galaxy tab?
How do you feel about this price point?
How well will it compete with Apple IPAD that is quite a bit cheaper?

UK Xoom pricing

Seems expensive http://crave.cnet.co.uk/laptops/motorola-xoom-price-revealed-already-zooming-skywards-50002167/
Was pretty keen on getting one until I saw this. Surely they should be pricing it to be competitive with other tablets out there.
Also, anyone know anything about what the launch date will be in the UK?

Wow that is ridiculously high. If thats a final price they most certainly wont sell crap. Not only will Apple own them but also the Playbook. I was planning to buy this tablet but now im concerned about the pricing. They need to sell this tablet at a reasonable price of $400-$600 dollars. However, I doubt this will be how much it costs. It mostly likely will go down. Wayyyy down.
Here here.
Looks like a great device, but they can't be serious about that pricing?
£500 max, absolute max. Just because the iPad is overpriced, doesn't mean Moto can get away with outpricing the overpriced.
Would be a tragedy for such a good device to fail or sell poorly purely due to pricing.
Most of us did not count in the price of the accessories yet… I think we need at least a standard dock which will cost us approximate another US100.
I wont pay more than USD1k for a tablet that does not support SD card, it is too far away from the budget for a tablet. I will focus my attention to the alternative android 3.0 tablets from Asus & Acer which will costs us approximate $400-$700.
I hate those webshops that try to profit from early adopters..
Wait....is this wifi only version or have 3G???

The rumor is that the iPad 2 will be cheaper than the original. If the prices I'm seeing on this are true, and the rumors hold for iPad 2 there is no way I can drop that kind of coin on a Xoom.

I haven't heard of a wifi only version for Europe. The information available is very vague though.
I don't think we should worry about these pricing rumours. The Nexus S was overpriced for a week before release and the Galaxy Tab was overpriced in the weeks/months before release too. These are almost certainly just guesses, we don't even know if there is an option for carrier subsidy, Wi-Fi only, etc yet

No. They wanted to release it early, so they are going to add SD support and enable the LTE bands on the data model.

My past experience with android device told me not to trust any update/upgrade promise from the manufacturer. The update/upgrade will never come true as soon as your expectation. with this unacceptable high pricing, I wont consider it until it had supported SD card.
BTW, does Xoom support USB Host mode?
If another Android device has it I would think the Xoom would have it or easily get hacked to it.
Seems Mr Jobs was correct when he said that others could not match the pricing of the iPad.
I will go nuts if I pre-order and the price drops after a few weeks/months...
They should put it on contract £25 a month would be cool.then everyone could get one
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I'm not sure why everybody is going nuts because some "eXpensive" retailer has put a random pre-order price on their website.
Facts:
- Samsung Galaxy S pre-order on "eXpensive" website was €799,- (waaay overpriced)
- "eXpensive" already replaced their Xoom price with "Price Not Known"
- I've seen pre-order prices for Xoom as high as $1023,-
Chill everybody... just wait for Motorola to give us the official price point. Any day now.
I don't think that Motorola will make the same mistake as Samsung did with their Tab.
As for the iPad fans: I seriously doubt that the iPad2 will be cheaper then the current iPad. Expect the current iPad to drop in price, and better hope (for your sake) that the iPad2 price is equal but not higher then the iPad is today.

http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/21/motorola-xoom-priced-at-800-at-a-minimum-according-to-verizon/
Ok, before you all get your panties in a bunch. This WILL NOT be the pricing of the Xoom when it launches and I will give my left arm for that.
Can any of you remember back a couple months back before the Galaxy Tab launched in the UK? Prices were being quoted in the range of £650 and like a week after it launched you could get it for damn nearly half that.
It's these stupid sites like eXpansys and the like that jack up the pre-release prices before any actual prices have been announced.
At MAX it may start off at £599 on some sites then then sharply come down to between £450-550....that's my opinion but like they say 'opinions are like @ssholes, everybody's got them...'

Further update: date now uncertain, may be early November, may slip back towards initial mid-November date.
FFS! 495 Gbp to euro + taxes = +/- 700€ in my country... thats almost 2x the minimum wage / salary.
Too damn expensive.
I have to agree. And we all know that there'll be an even better phone
released, less than a year later, and we'll all want that one too...
£478.99 exc VAT on 31st October at Handtech
If this phone follows the trend, there should be a big price drop in 3 - 4 months. I can wait.
This phone will be awesome. I have tablets, but I still do most of my news reading on my current 4" screen LG G2X phone. I don't know why Samsung had to market this for women. Anyways, the 1.4ghz dual core and battery capacity is probably one of the best in the whole phone industry right now.
Com'on US release...
I don't really understand why you looking for prize drops. In 4 month there is something else you want and you have to wait again Do you ever buy phones?
lol, that's why I still have an HD2 right now. In 4 months, there might be an even bigger phone than the note.

Clove Uk has revised their release date to "to be confirmed" from stock expected about November 1. Clove "hopes" to ship mid November. They are waiting for Samsung to tell them when they will have the product delivered to their warehouse. It is very possible phone will be delayed so it can ship with Ice Cream on board (rumor.)
The price of a smartphone (Galaxy SII) bought outright (unlocked, expensive than phone price on contract) which includes tax and gst here in Australia is roughly 425 GBP.
At 425 GBP, the SGNote is NOT CHEAP, but I would buy it in a heartbeat, but not a penny more. The baseline for smartphone outright price has been 400-450GBP in Australia for sometime, I think its unfair to exceed that.

I'm so torn between the Note and the Nexus.
At the moment I've preordered the Nexus but I dont know... I would realy like the bigger screen and the sd-card slot on the Note.
Might end up with both...
EDIT:
And now I've both preordered. Think I'll go for the Note. I just hope that it will get ICS fast.
EDIT2:
Leaning towards getting both now =) So my wife get a shiny new phone to (but the sgs2 she have now is not to bad either)
Gonna try them both out and then I'll take the one i like most and my wife get the reject

The Nexus is nice but I'm majorly swayed by the screen size on the Note and the stylus input.
I think most people looking at both nexus and note, Had both pre-ordered but cancelled the nexus. Only NFC and ICS missing on the note. I dont need NFC for three to five years. (might be payment method world wide). but who knows? ICS, i still think we will see that on the note sometime next year...
Brilliant short clip showing how good the Note is for video editing and annotation. This is one awesome tablet phone.

Priv Price Revealed (It's not good news)

Carphone Warehouse are now taking pre-orders for the Blackberry Priv,
http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/phones/blackberry-priv
The bad news? £580 sim-free. (That's the equivalent of about $900 US)
If you ask me, Blackberry are pricing themselves out of the market. At minimum it's £100 overpriced in order to be competitive, especially when compared to something like the Nexus 6P. The maximum price for this should have been £450, and even then it would be a major uphill struggle to shift 5 million units.
I was so excited for this phone, but at that price I think my money would be better spent on a 6P.
I was waiting for this phone as the only option for Android, HW keyboard and decent specs.... but at this price I don't think it makes much sense. Heck even the corporate procurement officers will scratch their heads with such a price, even if the security is top notch. Common BB, get serious!
Settle down, guys. That's the European price and most likely includes VAT. Electronics are also more expensive in Europe. It'll most likely be $599 or $649 here.
MSRP $949 in Canada.

I would think that depreciation value of this phone would be quite high due to BlackBerry current circumstances and market share. However I could be wrong, it could hold it's value because of being a niche product. If it's a hit then I could see them holding the same price for at least a year or more but if it's not then it might see the Amazon Fire phone slash and burn price method.
mobilesyrup article puts pricing at $799 CAN which puts a US price at more like $599
Apparently it was momentarily priced for $749 USD.
http://www.droid-life.com/2015/10/21/blackberry-priv-pre-orders-open-in-us-for-749-ship-november-16/
I'm wondering how much of that is actually BlackBerry and how much is CarphoneWarehouse. It wouldn't be the first time a device has been unpopular simply because of how and where it was marketed.
Preorder pricing has always been a little "stab in the dark" as far as I'm concerned, the only thing we can really do is wait. I'm really hoping the competition between retailers drives the price to a slightly saner number but I'm not holding my breath.
The Priv looks like an amazing device but £580 is a little rich for my blood.
I think it will probably similar priced as the galaxy S6+, perhaps slightly more.

Although Rogers is doing 399/2yr or 799 outright.

Buying outright from Rogers and unlocking is cheaper in any case.
blackberry always overprices its devices, mostly people buy it to use it as a STATUS SYMBOL
Not necessarily. Passport was $699 at launch, still the same price for full off contract at Rogers, and you have to pay to unlock it. Bell and Telus both selling it for $750.
Canada works a bit backwards in this regard.
I was gonna get it until the price was revealed. I decided to go with the G4 and im glad i made the decision

I can't even remember the last time BB was a status symbol, at least in the US or Europe, however this is the first 'unique' Android phone in years, so you never know. I'm going to resist buying it as long as possible b/c the price will definitely drop on contract, but I don't know how long I'll be able to wait.
