Has anyone tried a capacitive screen stylus yet? There are quite a few on ebay around £2-3. Would much prefer to use a stylus than finger. Always carry a pen/stylus in my top pocket for my HD.
I bought one (from play.com) and it really doesn't work very well imo, it's too "sticky" which makes it close to unusable for swipe gestures. It also doesn't register simple presses as reliably as a finger.

I've got my HTC magic last week and order a stylus pen to use with it. The problem is that the phone only respond to finger tap, and I must be holding it. If it is, for example, on the car support and I tap it with my finger it does not respond to touch. Does anyone else have this problem?

The HTC Magic has a captive touch screen, these types of touchscreens only work to the touch of the finger and hence will not work with a stylus.
I also have this problem, not that with the stylus ( I know it can´t be used with stylus). When laying the phone on a tabele an using with only my fingers the respons is very bad. When holding the phone in my hand it´s perfect.
Anyone knows why???
Instead of tapping the screen try a light press, it does not respond to a tap or quick jab with the finger. Go Here and you can read how the Capacitive Touchscreen works.

Best thing that i've found to do, is make a circuit with the phone:
When its flat or in car holder if you make your thumb touch the bottom of the phone (near the roller ball) then use your finger to do the action required this seems to work!

If anyone noticed, if you hold your Magic in one hand and use the other hand to point etc, the sensitivity sort of goes down.
Using the fingers (or rather thumb) of the same hand in which you hold your Magic would produce an insanely much better result!

That's due to the orientation of your fingers. Again, it's due to the capacitive screen. Using your thumb on the same hand that's holding the phone, you have more surface area touching on the screen where as if you "point" with the finger (I'm presuming your index) with the empty hand, the surface area is less. You can do a simple test. Press the screen like you were pointing at it then do the same but this time, press it like you were giving your finger print but not as wide.

Does anyone know how to increase the sensitivity on the Sapphire? Is there a way to disable the "heat sensing" part of the touch screen (my wife has acrylic nails and a stylus doesn't work either)

You cannot change the capacitive screen. So no nails and stylus...You can get a Tattoo (resistive screen)
but what about the sensitivity?

the rom i'm currently using seems to have made the onscreen keyboard less sensitive when in landscape mode.
I think I read that external power source = greater screen sensitivity, I doubt that will help you though.
I have added a screen protector today and it seems to have had a positive impact on the screen responsiveness. When playing games my screen pretty much went dead form all the finger print grease. Glasses cloth ftw.
Edit: Have you turned off vibrating keys? nice as it is it definitely made me miss key presses.

Neither. And so far I can't complain about the screen one bit. I do find myself simply tapping the screen to auto-size the browser, been easier than using two hands.
Its heat although the proper name is Capacitive meaning is only works with fingertips or a specialized " iphone " stylus, which i have and dont work very well tbh although mine was a cheapy off ebay (like 60cent for 2)
i just tried one at the store and noticed that it was not as sensitive as the iphone's. if my finger was on the hero light enough there was no response, but no matter how light i try to go on the iphone it always responds.
It is not heat.

And who cares if it's not as sensitive as the iphone? When would you ever try to press a button as lightly as possible in real life? I find it better that you actually need to touch the screen for a button press, leads to fewer mistakes with random light button brushing. I have yet to find a time when the screen doesn't respond when I want it to.
Feels just as sensitive to me. I very lightly ran my finger over the screen and it responded just as well.
I'm pondering about getting a MT3GS to replace the G1. However, one thing I like about the G1 is that it has dedicated call and hang up buttons, which are not present on the MT3GS.
And I heard that capacitive touch screens have issues dealing with gloves...
What's your take on this?
I've Never once had a problem with not having dedicated call and hang up buttons. Never bothered me. As For gloves, I've used plenty of latex mechanic's gloves without issue.

I just tried mine and it prevented me from registering any touch on the G1 screen.
Does the optical trackpad recognizes glove-covered fingers?
my g1 works fine with mechanic gloves on also, not thin gloves but. thick gloves is what i wear. still works just fine
well almost all the phones are moving in the touch screen direction these days,so suck it up because this is the reality of life

Depends on the gloves. Winter ones will not work with the trackpad or the capacitive touch screen. Mechanics gloves, rubber gloves, etc. that heat can transfer through however will work on both the screen and trackpad.
I don't use gloves, so I can't comment on that at all, but I can say that not having call/end buttons isn't a big issue. It has the phone button on the screen, that leads to the HTC SmartDial app that is vastly superior to the Google phone app.
I am happy, apart from WiFi problem, Note 3 user but I have some questions regarding spen. I havent head any experience with spen before but I guess my expectations were higher then the reality, so here we go:
1. Shell the spen be sensitivity be equally good to my fingertip? In my case, finger servse it purpose better.
2. When I use the spen at an angle ( so colled natualr writing angle) the reception is poor. is it normal?
3. Shell I apply slight pressure when using the spen, or shell "the touch" itself be enaugh?
4. The worst part is about the capacitve buttons, I need to tap with the spen, 2-3 times before the device registers it.
Please help me out, as I need to make my mind before I go complaining

I went to the shop and tried the note 3 before I bought it. (3 different shops).
At the shop I played around with it, mainly with the s-pen.
I can definitely say from my own experience (30 min all up) that I found using the pen quite easy, and while I I needed to get used to it for the first couple of minutes, I experienced no issues.
I also used the pen from another samsung tablet that was next to it and found no problem.
I will say that my finger is much less accurate than the s-pen.
If you have a problem, try and go to a shop and try their note 3 pen on your device to see if its different.
You could try a tablet pen as well to see if that makes a difference for you.

The S-Pen is Wacom pen technology based device, which allows presure sensitive writing/drawing if the program/App makes use of this.
You will see a pointer if you come close to the screen with the wacom pen and moving across the screen, in windows tablet the mouse pointer is already there but will move with the pen movement too.
You have to touch the scrren with the pen tip an provide at least minimal preassure. The benfits are:
- if the programs do not support preasure sensitive input you may assume that it's not better then your finger.
- If the program supports preasure sensitive writing/drawing the line will get thicker or more pronounced e.g. if you draw using the spray paint. -
- Other Wacom pens work too, e.g. the S-Pen from my Samsung Slate7 win7 X700T1a tablet. It's slightly larger and better suited for work.
- The main benefit over the smaller pen that come with the Note is that on the opposite site of the pens tip is the erase button, that allows you to erase parts you don't won't.
- In addition to the keayboard you get also handwriting recognition, which is toggled by a button on the keyoard.
Unfortunately Samsung does not provide many details on the interfaces or versions, but I would assume it to be around 256 presure steps. Wacom tablets may be as high as 1024 -2048 steps.
I hope that helps you to have a better understanding of Wacom technology and what to look for. For me the Wacom based pen was a large reason why I choose a Notes.

1. A slight touch on it. Just like how you touch or tap it using your finger.
2. Yes, since Note 8.0, S Pen works with the captive buttons. Ours one too.
Different between using S Pen and finger for the Air View is:
1. Finger - you can preview picture / SMS / header / email / speed dial etc
2. S Pen - besides what the finger could detect, S Pen also act as the mouse hovering mode and you can hover it above most of the icon and shows you a description what does the icon do
