I'm planning to get a microSDhc card for my Jade (HTC Touch 3g).
Can you guys please advice will there is any difference in performance, response time and speed between 4GB microSDhc and 8GB microSDhc.
For the timebeing, I'm using mere 1GB micro SD card and its works great.
I know that both works with Jade, but how about the response time? I'm surely looking for bigger space, but not at the cost of speed and response time.

HTC (officially) supports only 4Gb SD. Many I know have used 8Gb without problem. Personally I'm using just 4Gb without problem. Response time - blink of an eye, I do not have an empirical engineering measure though. Most of my programs / applications are on SD and the response time are OK.. so far, over a year now, never fail.

Even i'm planning to have my most of the programs/appilcations on the storage card, so was wondering about the response time.
On HTC site, they said they have tested 8GB, but didn't mention about the performance.

Have you guys installed programs/applications on the Storage card?
And is the reponse of those program on SD are marginally slower as compare to similiar application on device memory?
Even I'm looking to bigger space, it helps a lazy person like me to clean the storage after long long time.
How is the access time for data like music/video/documents from SD and how about the stability?

I installed nearly all programs on my card (see above) and I have no delay or other problems with it. Of course I do never remove it.

most of the new Cards u can use have different "class" of speed, it give class
Class 2: 2 MByte/s - 13x
Class 4: 4 MByte/s - 26x
Class 6: 6 MByte/s - 40x
i use a Toshiba 8GB with Class4 (i pay 8,-EUR at eBay) and this works fine.
The most of the Programms I use, I installed on the Card except Phoneweaver or eqal Software that use direct access to the Sim.
I use for Videos (MusicClips, TV-Series with Subtitle in srt-format and Documentations) the CoreMobileVideoPlayer and the Videos works fluently perfect.
I have a second Device, a HTC Diamond with internal 4GB and to this it is no different with the speed (memory access).
I hope, this helps a little bit

well i use an 8GB micro sd card and it works like a charm
besides i heard that our jade can hold up to 16 GB's (thats what the folks at htc store told me) not quite sure about it but i guess the more storage u ride the more battery consumption u get
so i guess its fairly enough to stick with 8Gigs.

Hi guys. (I own htc touch 3g- jada 110) I am using also 8gb SDHC (kingston) class 4 and I recomend this one. Its fast, cheap (ebay- just be aware of some cheap replicas). I have also tried this card on my girlfriend`s htc tytn 2 (kaiser) and worked as well. So highly recomend KINGSTON cards.
I have both the 4gb and 8 gb Sandisk micro sd card. I can't tell the difference in speed and am very happy with the 8 gb card! Am thinking of upgrading to the 16 gb for my movies though!

does the Wizard have a maximum transfer speed for access to the miniSD card slot?
I'm looking for a miniSD card, and thinking of whether the Wizard can take advantage of the very high speeds of the latest cards. Is it worth giving the extra money to get a very fast card or not?
Is 150x about the fastest available?
AFAIK 80x is the fastest available miniSD
Im using it (1GB 80x)
Maybe we can do some benchmarks? any good software to test memory?

Don't bother spending extra money for a high speed card. Even going back to the earliest days of PPC's, it's all about the PPC's I/O to the media card. The only real advantages of a high speed card is when using with a digital camera or when using the card in a card reader.
I have a Sandisk 1gb card that runs just fine in my K-JAM. On my 2750, I have a 1GB Lexar sd and 1gb Lexar CF.

I'm glad I found this thread. I've installed some software onto the miniSD card and I noticed they load slower. The worsest problem is now the soft keyboard selection menu takes a full 7 seconds to pull up. I was thinking about buying a faster miniSD to solve this problem, looks like I'll just have to live with it.

Which Transcend 4 GB SD Card actually works on the Universal? There are too many types now.

Uhm, all two work well, coz 150X doesnt matter, Ur fone won't use up to that speed. But it costs much.
Thanks for the response guys. I keep running out of space on my 2GB SD Card. I started using it to store my favorite music collections, so I don't have to keep changing cards if I want to listen to music.

and the 150x helps you copy things much faster.
I have the 150x Transcend 4Gb and gotta say, it's loverly.
As Dao007forever says, your phone will never use that speed, but I copy large .avi files over using a card reader on my pc and it's lightning fast for that.
Great little card. And personally, I think it's worth the extra bucks for peace of mind that it's a quality product.
Hi, sorry if this is a double post. I did look around but could not find much info.
I'm interested to know how well the new 16GB MicroSD cards work on the Xperia. Anyone using one of these? My main concern is that they all seem to only be class 2 atm. Is this too slow to run apps and my videos stored on it etc?
Should I wait till a class 4 16GB card comes out?

i don't think it matters in a phone.
I ordered the eact same Mobile Ultra card today. Should be here saturday, so I will tell when I get it. But assuming it's Class 6 card, it should be fast. I wouldn't go with Class 2, since it's slow. But as Jabe says, it might not matter on the phone.
So as at now no one's using a 16GB yet?
Give me a week or 2. I'm planning on ordering the Sandisk one.
Sandisk Mobile Ultra is good, and it's what I am using for X1. Since it's class 6, the read/write speed is about 20/16 mb/s, which is much faster than class 2. If you wanna watch video storaged in card, this one is your first choice.

Note that the speed in the end is depending on the host itself. If the host is slow, even if you use class 6 memory card, it's not going to make any difference. Personally I believe the phone itself would be the bottleneck and not the memory card.
I know it's not totally relevant but just for reference, take a look at the link below. As you can see the speed of class 2 and 6 are pretty identical as it's limited by the host. This is even with a dedicated memory card reader. Compare the 2nd and 4th entries from the bottom.

I'm using a 16GB Class 2 at the moment. No probs with apps or music. But I have no videos on the card...
with normal sd cards the pdas were mostly not able to transfer as fast as the sd card supported
as the sd interface in onchip and not that fast
would like to see some tests if the same hold true with newer pda's and class X microSD cards

I'm using a Sandisk 8gb Class 4 HC. No problems with speed or data read/write (on the phone itself).
Using the phone as a disk drive though (not activesync) is noticeably slower than using a USB adapter, *suggesting* the phone itself is the bottleneck?
I'm using a SanDisk 8GB Class II Card and I had no problems with photos, videos or music so far.
Don't think a Class 4 or 6 is worth the price in a mobile phone.
I got my 16GB Microsdhc today. And everything works. Sad thing is it only shows 15GB.
I find no difference in speed between my 8G class 6 and 16G class 2 (both from Sandisk)

it's 15G probably because of the way how "G" is being calculated. 16,000,000,000 = 16,000,000,000/(1024*1024*1024) = 14.9GB
im using a 8g class 4 card, music, apps and vids work great.
just a quick question, the x1 has a sd card limit of 32g, when a larger card comes out like the 128gb card that sandisk has said will come out, could windows mobile have a update so that it can read it or is limited to the reader hardware inside the x1
I have 2 cards: Sandisk 16GB Class 2 and Kingston 8GB class 4.
I use Sandisk in Xperia, and the speed is more than sufficient. It reaches 12-15 MB/s writing on USB adapter. Reading - it's no problem reaching even more. So it's ok, speed wise.

I have a 16gb micro sdhc and some .avi videos lag (highish quality). Specifically, top gear season 12 episodes from finalgear.com. it might be the divx client though, Im using the WM 6 Pro version available on the divx website.

I installed Android on my HD2, worked perfectly for 2 weeks. But my microSD was only 2GB, so I buyed a new one.
Kingston class 4 8gb microSD. Putted everything just on the new SD card, didn't changed anything! Formatted it also to FAT32.
Now the problem is that Android is VERY slow with getting out of standby, takes sometimes 10 seconds. I get a black screen for 10 seconds and then Android comes up.
Also starting up Android takes ages and it sometimes just freezes or gives a blue screen.
Has this something to do with Android or is the microSD card broken in a way? I can still move/delete files on the microSD card.
Anyone got at solution?

Did you try a different build? Perhaps try Mdeejay rEVOlution build, fastest build i've used so far,very very fast, smooth and stable. Also try updating your radio.
I bet there are several utilities to test the read and write speeds on your microSD card. You'll need a cardreader in your pc to do that, trying it through WM6 won't work because the USB will be the one controlling the max speeds.
I hope this helps a lot of people struggling with the speed of android running off SD.
My suggestion is that the card size, and not just the card speed plays an important part in the speed at which android runs...
My Evidence. I first installed various builds on a variety of Sandisk 2GB and 4GB Class 2 cards. They all ran super fast... I mean no lag at all, ever. It might as well have been a Desire HD. Being that i wanted more space I used my 16GB Sandisk Class 2 that I have been using for WM, reformatted it and installed android. It was cripplingly slow. Unusable in fact. (i tried reformat/reinstall a couple of times before giving up). I then invested in a Class 4 16GB and installed the same build. Not surprisingly this was faster, usable but still not as fast as it was on the 4GB Class 2. I am going to go back the the 4GB card unfortunately until NAND arrives.

First i'm going to test the Mdeejay rEVOlution build, hopefully it will run smooth and fast. If not, i'm gonna send back my 8GB card and get a new 4GB class 4 card.
At the moment I'm running Froyostone 3.2, works now perfectly with the 2GB microSDcard.

I totally agree with this, although I cannot figure out why.
I tested with two almost identical cards, both Samsung class 4, one 2Gb, one 8Gb, formatted FAT32 64k clusters via the same memory card reader/pc. The 2Gb one whizzed along with the build I'm running now, the 8Gb one occassionally stuttered and stalled. Seems odd to me, unless fragmentation comes into play maybe?
The only reason I have stuck with the 8Gb is for my music. Oh how I'd love to stick with my 2Gb card for the speed and have a second SD slot for my music.

I don´t have any complaints so far... it´s fast here.
Many slowdowns, however, seem to be caused by using sub-optimal, if not incompatible, SD cards.
Change the SD card!!!! I migrated from a Kingston Class 4 4GB (lag in WP7 + slow app install) to a 16 GB Adata Class 10 card and now everything is really flying high SanDisk cards should be your best bet as of compatibility. I switched to Adata because I got it as a present.

It´s hard to tell from distance... if you´ve got another card, it might well be worth a try. Sandisk usually work, but then again, some don´t. I think that was also a major issue for HTC when they had to notice lags and malfunctions of some of their WP7 devices which use SD cards instead of soldered memory...
