Trying to get cyanogen rom on my MyTouch... - Android Software Development

I did every step and when I installed the app installer then using flashrec 1.1.3, after I had installed recovery flasher. Then I hit restore back up image, says flash complete and then I hit restore back up image...flash complete but there's no url at all. Here's where I got my sources...
Then can you download the following files the following files from this page .
* Download the COC10 build of Cupcake from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BLM4EDGE (sappimg.nbh)
* Download the latest version of FlashRec from http://zenthought.org/content/project/flashrec
* Download the HTC Android 1.6 base image:
o http://www.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=enomther/ROM/&file=HTC_ADP_1.6_DRC83_rooted_base.zip
* Download the latest CyanogenMod ROM for your device:
o http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/update-cm-4.2.3.1-signed.zip
If someone can please help me out!

*bump* anyone? It's not giving me a default url so I can't get the recovery image. I read all the process on WIKI as well.

What do you mean by a 'URL'?
Here's the correct order of instrcutions:
1) Get Cyanogen's recovery image here
2) Put in on the root of your sdcard, call it 'recovery'
3) Open flash rec and choose the backup option.
4) There should be a box to type the location of the recovery image you want to flash. Type /sdcard/recovery.img
After that's flashed you can then flash the HTC image from recovery, then the Cyanogen Mod ROM.

When I open flashrec app, it won't let me hit download image button right after I hit back up button. The box on the flashrec app comes up empty. My friend was telling me it should say something on there. I'll try it your way.

The box should be empty, inside it you need to type "/sdcard/recovery.img" then hit flash. Use this video as a reference.

I typed it in the box but still nothing. The larger button doesn't say cyanogen. It just says download recovery image.I followed what the video says. Maybe I didn't get the correct files? I'm also using Linda File Manager.
I have the SAPPIMG.nbh file on there. Rebooted my phone and then took the file off.
Then I installed flashrec-1.1.3-20091107-2.apk
Are you sure that's all I need to type?

i'm no wiz, but...
i went to cyans site, clicked the wiki tab, then clicked the MT3G section, and followed it verbatim. i had absolutely ZERO problems. When i tried to do it prior to the wiki i had similar problems. my backup kept failing. try the wiki, hope it helps.

I got it figured out. I was missing the cm-recovery file! Im likin this rom and thank u all

Recovery Image Errors

Hello. I'm really new to the g1, I got it just two weeks ago, and right now I have JFv1.50 ADP1.5 installed right now. I'm not familiar with many of the technical terms, but I'm starting to understand everything.
I went through the root process, trying to follow some guide using a root.apk application to download/ install the right files, but it bricked my phone. I was able to manually get it to JFv1.50 ADP1.5 later on though.
Now my problem is that I believe I still have the normal recovery image on the phone. In recovery mode there is a picture of an exclamation mark in a triangle.
So I figured I'd go try to use JF's 1.43 recovery image. I put the zip on my SD card and renamed it update.zip. When I go into recovery mode now, though, and press ALT+S, I see the installation/ update bar pop up for like 3 seconds, enough for the orange progress bar to move a few millimeters, and then it just stops. No error message or anything.
I tried installing the test keys recovery image also, but it didn't work at all.
I really need JF's recovery image though, so I can make backups etc.
I've searched for this, but the closest problem I can see is this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-505950.html
But for me, I don't even get an error message when using the update.zip...
Sorry for my lack of technical knowledge here, but try to bear with me
Thanks for any help you can give me!
The cooked roms are signed with testkeys, so the original recovery mode will refuse to flash them. You'll have to get the recovery image modified by JF and flash it. The latest version is included in JF v1.43. You can find recovery.img in a folder called data in that zip.
Copy it to your sdcard or adb push it to somewhere on the phone. Then type these commands on the phone:
su
flash_image recovery /path/to/recovery.img
You must have root in order to do this. Alternatively, you can push the file to /system and the init script will flash it for you the next time you boot.

looking for a guide on installing custom roms

is there a guide i can follow to install the unrevolved rom or any other custom rom
thank you
This really helped me understand a lot of how this stuff is done. It's written for the Nexus One, but the process should be similar.
The site is : theunlockr ... Click on How To's --> android --> then Nexus One.
Scroll down to "How to load a custom ROM"
Hope this helps. Goodluck.
Edit: UGH! STupid thing wont let me post the link.
i believe there are only 2 ways to install a custom rom. One way is to install an update.zip from your custom recovery (or any zip when using koush's custom recovery) the other way to install a rom is to do a nandroid restore. Which method is used depends on the rom. For unrevolved just download the zip, boot into recovery, select install zip from sd card, then go to your download folder where the zip should have downloaded and install it, reboot
make sure to download and install the apps.zip using this same method otherwise you wont have a market among other google apps which makes it difficult to use your phone
1st back up your apps with titanium backup
2nd. download Rom Manager in the market the free version will work for now but eventually when more roms get loaded into it the paid version is worth it.
3rd. plug your usb into your pc and the other end into your phone
4th move zip file with out renaming it to your sd card. (Jager 1.1) for example
5th open rom manager click on top link flash clockwork mod recovery. Click incredible click ok.
6th. Install from sd card find the zip(jager 1.1) click on it box opens up very important.(back up data ...check mark wipe ..check mark) done thats it. Now just wait for it to install...
Prob the fastest method out there and the easiest. Takes about 2 or 3 mins to get it installing a new rom.

Flashing problem on Magic_Rogers 3.54.631 rom

hi everybody!
some days ago i flashed my magic (TIM Italy, so 32A) whit the Magic_Rogers3.54.631.3 rom, that was a ruu exe file.
It flashed my spl and radio, that now are hboot-1.76.0010 (SAPP10000) and 6.35.16.19.
Now i wanted to change rom because of the language (i'm not able to put an italian dictionary when i write), but i don't succeed.. i tried to reflash the recovery, but i can't because fastboot says that is not possible to send data to the phone, so i can't also boot some recovery image.. same problem via adb or via terminal on the phone.
i rooted the phone with the last universal androot, but it's the same..
i succeeded to change recovery only with rom manager, but the phone doesn't go in recovery mode (it's still on the "rogers" splash screen), or if it goes, it reboot alone after a few seconds.
oh, at last, i'm not able to flash other rom, like the RUU_Sapphire_HTC_Europe_3.05.401.1_test_signed_NoDriver or my original TIM rom.
I'll be really grateful to who will help me!!
thanks for reading!
download this application FlashRec
install it to your device
then download any of Amon_RA recovery imgs (HERE) (Choose the correct one for your device)
then push it to your sdcard
then open the FlashRec and press backup,
then write in the blank box "sdcard/xxxxx.img"
where xxxxx is the name of the img you pushed to your SD
then press flash .. if it is successful, connect your phone to adb
and write "adb shell reboot recovery"
I tried this on 32A 1.33.0010 and Radio 3.22,
I'm NOT 100% sure it will work with you,
try it at your own risk.
it says "phone type is EBI1/32A"
i press backup with or without the name in the box,and the result is
"backup failed: could not run command."

me too... but the htc magic 32a with the actual stock rom, android 1.5 with sense form january, is already bugfixed.
Moving to General
sorry for the mistake, i thought it was the right section..
anyway i followed the guide in the post linked by renedlog and.. it worked!!! i didn't know where to put the flash_image file.. but it was written there.. so i did all, and now my rom is the RCMagic 5.0!
do you think it's good to try something different?
i use RCMagic 4.2
the version 5 is still a little buggy with the wake up from standby.
i will upgrade to an android 2.2 rom, if there is an update today for the 32B and hopefully it will be patched to my 32A.
yeah, i saw that bug.. it's really a pity, the rom was a little faster than the 4.2..
i suppose it would not be a big bug, so i hope somebody that is able will fix it!!
are there so big changes beetwen the 2.1 and 2.2?

Managed to get cwm and root with this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...vo-a3500-h-t2879208/post55491817#post55491817
Modified the guide for Lenovo A3500-FL!
EDIT: Also some users have reported that this guide doesn't do the trick or is out-dated, so copypasted the guide from this post here.
Guide
1. Download attachment cwmRecovery.zip and download latest Flash_tool (version 5.1352.0) can be downloaded from here)
1.1. Enable USB-debugging. (How to do this)
2. Manually install the drivers from the attachment a7_40_drivers.zip for the LenovoTablet before plugin it to computer (win7 dirvers work for win8 too).
2.1. To install unsigned/uncertified drivers on Windows 7: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/3914-windows-7-how-to-install-unsigned-drivers
2.2. To install unsigned/uncertified drivers on Windows 8: http://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how...8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/
2.3. After you have disabled the driver signature verification, you can install the drivers like this: Right click My computer, Manage, Device Manager, right click your computer at the top, Add Legacy hardware, next, Install plapla manually, next, Show all Devices, Have a Disk.., Browse to the driver folder where you unzip them, choose example windows7 and the 64 version (win7 drivers work for win8.x too), install every device. Then follow the guide.
(Note: Otherwise Windows only installs the normal automatic drivers and its more difficult to install the other drivers.)
2.4. Plug your device to PC.
3. Download the latest supersu zip file (version 2.46) from attachments or from https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/
3.1. Move the zip.-file to the Sdcard.
4. Turn off your device.
5. Unpack cwmRecovery.zip
6. Run Flash_tool.exe with Admin Rights.
7. Chose Scatter-Loading and choose MT6582_Android_scatter.txt (in Recovery folder).
7.1. Now you will see checekd only one checkbox - recovery, if not click on it and choose recovery.img
7.2. Press Download.
7.3. Connect your device.
7.4. Wait few seconds.
8. Have CWM on your device .
9. Unplug your device.
10. . Boot to cmw recovery by turning off your device. Then press and hold VOL DOWN + VOL UP and then also press and hold POWER for about 7 seconds.
10.1. Choose " Install zip from sdcard." (To confrim always use the Power Button)
10.2. Choose "zip from sdcard".
10.3. Select SuperSU-v2.46.zip from sdcard and apply.
10.4. Have a rooted tablet.
It might be necessary to always flash the CWM with the Flashtool directly before you startup the device. Otherwise it will start the original AndroidRecovery again.
It might also be necessary to use different drivers from here.
If the supersu zip doesn't install, try toggling the signature verification to disabled from cwm->install zip from sdcard->toggle signature verification.
Tested and working on Levono A7-40 3500-FL with kitkat update, build number A3500FL_A442_01_25_140823_SE, from ota. Attached screenshot for proof. Also other people have reported that this works for later updates too, for example A3500FL_A442_01_27_141127_SE.
You can update to the latest OTA firmware by first going back to stock recovery. See the second post for the guide.
Thanks and credits go to: @Koli96 and @bobais
How to go back to stock rom/recovery and update to latest Lenovo OTA firmware update
So, it's pretty simple, you take the stock_recovery.zip from the first post, extract it, and replace recovery.img in the recovery folder with the stock one.
Then :
Quote:
4. Turn off your device.
6. Run Flash_tool.exe with Admin Rights
7. Chose Scatter-Loading and choose MT6582_Android_scatter.txt (in Recovery folder)
7.1. Now you will see checekd only one checkbox - recovery, if not click on it and choose recovery.img
7.2.. Press Download
7.3. Connect your device
7.4. Wait few seconds.
And that's it !
On a side note, if it seems stuck on a black screen with a loading circle after factory reset, you have to put the tablet in landscape mode and restart (the shutdown menu appears without any problem) - this issue doesn't seem related to recovery, but a bug within lenovo firmware and the first configuration screen.
Side note 2: The first boot after flashing new update might take 15mins.
Side note 3: After updating to the latest OTA you can go back to cwm recovery with the guide from the first post.

I got the same tablet and I also am looking for a root. :/
Another waiting for rooting lenovo owner.
Same here, i was looking for a root guide and i couldn't find anything.
Does anyone else has a problem with long charging times?
Well it charges long and the charge stays long, so no issue here.
Seems that not that many lenovos root easily, but of course this is a pretty new device(?).

Installed everything and tried vroot once again (I have tried it before).
Still not rooted. And btw that vroot at least tries to install bunch of bloatware crap on the pc.
Edit:
I would suggest for anyone who installed Vroot to your pc to scan the whole pc after you uninstall the vroot.
Here are the scanning tools:
Malwarebytes
adwcleaner
superantispyware
hitmanpro

I got a successful root by flashing Recovery.rar from lenovo-forums.ru, (it's easy to google, I'm not allowed to post links) with the included SPFlash Tool and afterwards flashing the needed SU binaryies and apk. However, this will mess up the OTA updates, and I can't find the stock recovery again.
Therefore, I really beg anyone having the stock recovery to post it, enabling us to switch between them, whenever we want to apply any OTAs.
Thanks a lot!

Well I very highly doubt that there will be any more updates for a device with this price range. And since the next android version is the L version, which requires more work than before.

Yup.. This is the problem. The recovery runs fine from Flash Tool and claims it installs it. (Download ok) But I still don't seem to have CWM on the device. It's just normal recovery mode. So any ideas about the CWM-installation? What could possibly go wrong? I get no error messages. Cheers.

[ GUIDE ] [ Marshmallow Firmware Upgrade ROM install including ViperOneM9 4.x.x ]

Dummy friendly guide how to upgrade, flash and install the latest Marshmallow Firmware and the latest ROM’s such as the ViperOne ROM 4.x.x, this guide is intended for those who are already slightly familiar with the flashing process and have previously managed to flash a ROM on their HTC One M9 device…
CHECKLIST BEFORE STARTING:
1) Phone is S-OFF
2) Unlocked Bootloader
3) Rooted
4) Latest TWRP recovery
5) SUPER CID changed to 11111111
6) External SD Card
7) NANDROID Backup and any or every other form of backup
8) Device drivers, Android SDK Platform Tools including ADB & FASTBOOT.
9) USB Debugging enabled.
10) BACK UP OF ALL YOUR DATA !!!
Before we begin make sure you back up all your data on both the internal and external SD card.
For the purpose of this tutorial we will be installing the latest ViperOneM9 ROM…
a) Downloaded and place the latest ViperOne ROM - ViperOneM9_4.x.x.zip on your External SD card,
Main Thread by j to the 4n is found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/rom-viperonem9-1-0-0-tweaks-hub-t3072773
Latest ViperOne ROM for download is here:
http://venomroms.com/htc-one-m9/
b) If you are currently on ViperOneM9 3.5.0 or older and wish to upgrade to the latest 4.x.x than the latest Marshmallow firmware is required (3.35.401.12 or 3.35.617.12 firmware)… This can be found here and within Sneakyghost original thread.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZaiJ3F_f76sVa4daU5H62OYi5Bj23LEBBv4xDTQ8y-M/pubhtml
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/firmware-t3068243
Now download the latest version of either:
NO WIPE ZIP
or
FULL STOCK WIPE ZIP
For this tutorial we will use the FULL STOCK WIPE ZIP (to archive a clean install – this will wipe everything on your phone excluding the External SD card)
c) Place the downloaded M9_3.35.401.12_FullStock_wipe.zip into your Android SDK Platform Tools Folder (for example C:\Android\ if this is where all your tools are found)
d) Download the latest version of TWRP recovery from
http://www.teamw.in/devices/htconem9.html
Place the downloaded twrp-2.8.7.0-hima.img in your Android SDK Platform Tools Folder
e) Once you are 101% ready to begin the process start by connecting your device and launching the command window (hold shift, right click in window with all the required ADB/FASTBOOT aps and select "open command window here) once the black terminal window appears start by typing in
adb devices
if your phone appears in the list we can continue by typing:
adb reboot download
wait a few seconds for the screen to appear and type:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
your phone should now be in the RUU mode with a silver HTC logo, now type
(if you renamed the original file type its current name, by default it is as follows)
fastboot flash zip M9_3.35.401.12_FullStock_wipe.zip
f) you will most likely receive something like this towards the end after running the above command...
FAIL90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediate
FAILED (remote: FAIL90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediate)
For "hboot-preupdate" response, restart the same procedure for device...
just type the above command again and phone will flash the update again and hopefully it will take at least a minute or more to complete, hopefully there will be no more errors, just in case repeat the above command... Just in case you do see errors try looking them on Sneakyghost's thread found here
g) Once this is done and everything passed than we have successfully upgraded our firmware to Marshmallow... Since we selected the FULL STOCK WIPE option we need to flash TWRP once again (as it was wiped) and don't bother resetting or hoping for the phone to boot normally as it won’t...
(if you renamed the original file type its current name, by default it is as follows)
Type:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.0-hima.img
and once it’s done
adb reboot-bootloader
*if for any reason you need to reset your phone and gain access to the bootloader menu, download mode, recovery etc. you can always do this manually by holding vol up, vol down and power buttons at the same time for a few seconds to reset the device, to get into the bootloader, recovery, download mode etc. After the phone resets continue holding the vol down and power button until you reach the bootloader menu.
*if you type adb devices and you see multiple devices or emulators that prevent the commands from working I suggest running the following:
adb kill-server
adb devices
Now only your connected device should appear…
h) It is now time to enter our recently flashed recovery to finally install our latest ROM.
Enter the recovery manually or by typing
adb reboot recovery
From there you may select the wipe option (swipe to factory Reset) and proceed to the Install section, browse for your ROM file and select it.
i) Within Aroma installer select all your preferred options and begin to install, once the flashing completes your device should reboot and now you keep your fingers crossed and wait (will take several minutes so just be patient…. And DONE!!! You now have the latest Marshmallow firmware and ViperOneM9 ROM installed.
#Please note that I’m no expert when it comes to these matters, this guide is here to help anyone who is unsure what to do, I tried to write it up the best way possible (sorry that there are no fancy pictures) if there any errors or issues with my methods please feel free to correct them but so far they worked for me and hopefully will also work for you. (This guide will also help you flash other ROM's) If you need more help please feel free to ask, there is always someone here on xda who knows the answers 
Excellent write up !!
Many thanks !!!....g

Very nice writeup. Just got an M9 for the wife. I've been around the block so I get everything, but I've been away from HTC since the One X...well, there's the N9 but it's a nexus. What are the RUU mode and Download mode. If I remember correctly there was only the bootloader to go to on the One X. If it's complicated is there somewhere I can read about the modes?
Can you write instructions for s-on and unlocked boatloader? Thanks.

Excellent write-up! For extra-completeness, could you please cover changing the mid in android-info and dealing with error 22 (stuff about headers). I'm still fighting that one...
Thanks for your time.

Have you received the official Marshmallow OTA yet on your device? the S-OFF method is available for those who don't want to wait for official updates, I will gladly write up a S-ON method once more people receive the official update...

Also try the following as error 22 was not covered in the error handling section...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59783531&postcount=3
Download 7zip, open the zip inside of the program, right click on the Android text file and open within. Change the mid to yours hit save. It will ask if you want to update the zip, hit yes. Then try and flash.
SneakyGhosts post explains this:
Error 22 is new to me too but the string is kind of self explanatory: every archive has a header where the archive-program finds info about what type of archive and what compression. If the error says anything about this header, the logical conclusion is either a corrupted, broken archive or an unsupported archive type.
I suspect the latter simply due to the fact that the zip was unpacked and repacked, which then easily creates an incompatible zip.

because you need the latest firmware in order to install 4.x.x and the only way to get the latest firmware is via the OTA or by flashing it with the s-off method.

I'm still kind of "fuzzy" on this whole firmware thing.... IF I don't want to wait (on ATT) and IF I go S-OFF, which firmware can I/should I use for Marshmallow?
