100% awake time using Skype 3 CLient - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hello peeps, I posted this in another thread but thought it prudent to create a new thread as well.
I am using an unlocked Hero on the Three Network in the UK, I bought it last month just before they announced that they were releasing the phone with spotify.
Anyway I was able to install the skype client this morning, which, as it was on my old 3 phone, worked perfectly with using any of my minutes.
The issue I know have is that it does not put the phone back to sleep, even after I removed the installation and power cycled my phone... it is awake 100% of the time even after skype has been removed and my power usage has suffered as a result.
I used taskiller to check but skype is not running and I can seem to work out what is running permanently. Any help or ideas (I'm pretty nooby when it comes to this though) would be appreciated.
Cheers,
John.

No such problem here. Just to confirm. Indeed this matter could have been raised in existing thread. Not to worry.

Where can you get the 3 skype client for Hero from? I am currently using the modified iskoot and didn't realise you could get the official 3 skype client now?

It's now available on android market, under skype 3 beta I believe. Or you can go to the three website, go to the skype area, select your phone and enter your number and they will send a text message with the address to download from.
Lucan, you're right, after a couple of resets and reinstalls it seems to be ok now...very weird indeed.
I've noticed when dialling a skype contact it actually believes I am dialing someone else and it comes up with another name in the dialled number lists.
Also not getting any contact details when someone dials in from skype, just details as 'skype contact'. I think i can live with this though...
PLease delete this thread if you think it is necessary,
cheers,
John

actually, scratch my last comments, it does seem to be chewing power when logged into skype...very frustrating!

pkspidermonkey,
Compared to iskoot I and several other have been using in the absense of Skype on 3, it is not too bad. I am sure there will be several releases before final.

Skype for windows Mobile 2.2.0.18 known issues:
* If your device is connected to internet via Activesync, Skype may not login. Workaround is that you first open Internet Explorer in your Windows mobile device and then run Skype. Althought you will be connected to Skype network, it is not possible to place calls via ActiveSync.
* On PocketPC phone editions audio comes out from loudspeaker, it is not transferred to phone speaker. To avoid using loudspeaker, we suggest you to use wired headset. This will also give you better overall sound quality in Skype calls.
* In many cases if you have bluetooth headset connected to Windows mobile device, it is not possible to use it for Skype calls. In most cases you will not hear anything, or most of the text is cut off.
* In case you participate in many multichats and you log into Skype on mobile devices, multichat synchronization might freeze your device for several minutes. Similar freeze might also occur when you have lot of Contacts in your Contacts list (more than 50). To avoid this we suggest you to have separate Skype account for mobile devices where you have only most important contacts.
* On some occasions SkypeIn calls doesn't get through to Windows mobile devices. In most cases it helps if you quit Skype and start it again. If it is continuous problem for you, please report it to our customer support.
* When you are logged into Skype with same username on different platforms, some users in your Contacts list might have different statuses displayed on different platforms. Usually PC has correct information in these cases.
* Chat privacy settings are not working on some cases. If you do not allow chats from non-contacts or from users who are not authorized, their chats might still get through to you.

sadly, it's still doing this stupid thing.... and my skype out credit does not show up correctly with this beta version....
I just downloaded skype and installed it, but it seems to crash if I try to make voice calls over the HDSPA network.
I can't find any info on this, does voice have to go over WiFi?

Does anyone know if it's even possible for an app to take control of the phone speaker? In other words, is the phone speaker somehow dedicated to the phone components of the device?
I find the speaker thing extremely ridiculous
try using the bundled headset... else there is a way to patch the voice to a bluetooth headset by changing a reg key. Note that doing this will prevent the headset button to initiate voice calls (it will be used to turn Bluetooth on the headset on/off). You can still pickup and hangup calls using it.

I believe the reason for this is because you can still actively recieve normal calls whilst using skype. What would happen if both the phone and skype are fighting for that speaker??? I think you would have a soft reset on your hands.
When using skype i use the bundled headset that was mentioned in an earlier post.
S.K.
Skype is nice when you have a flat fee/Wifi connections.. else, I tried 1 minute once, 800KB traffic :|
Skypeout Dialling
Hi,
Is anyone else aware of a solution for the lack of a "+" key on the Skypeout dialling skin?
For those that have not tried it, you can call non-skype numbers using Skype, and pay either a flat annual fee or pay as you go credits. Anyhow, Skype requires a "+" entered in front of the phone number. However, there is no "+" key on the dialling skin; you have to access your device keyboard for that. This is inconvenient and seems to me to be a very easy fix - get rid of the need for the "+" or add the key to the dialler...
Thanks,
MM

Well I have to say it's not that obvious. I remember spending a while working that one out sometime back as like you it seemed crazy that there was no obvious key.

I have a new found interest in Skype. I'm currently with T-Mobile and I have been thinking of switching to Cingular/ATT for the 3G data. I was wondering if Skype works flawlessly with Cingular's 3G HSDPA network, or if it works only over WiFi? If it does, I'll head over to cingular right now and sign up. I was going to wait until they get the replacement for the 8525, but that doesn't seem like it'll happen anytime soon. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
Hi Kman79,
I can't answer specifically about Cingular At&T, but I can tell you that the Roger's AT&T network in Canada uses the same GSM 3G protocol and frequency range. I have used an 8525 with WM5 and WM6 and used Skype with no problems where I had a moderate or better 3G signal. I tried it with and EDGE signal and it was too choppy to make it usable IMHO.

I appreciate the reply. I was just in Edmonton, Canada about a month ago, and I was using Roger's network with no problem with my Softbank phone. I had no issues in terms of making or receiving calls, I would assume it would be the same with their 3G data, I appreciate the response. I'll most likely be switching to Cingular soon, I'm out of contract with Tmobile and I was already considering the switch anyways.
Edmonton was a nice change of pace from Houston, I had a great time and people were very friendly. Beautiful country by the way, it was the first time I actually seen snow, yes I was bread in the Houston heat for most of my life.
It's good to hear my western friends were hospitable. Ottawa and Washington have had a few differences over the past decade, so it's always good to hear that it hasn't affected the general public's sence of decency and good-will. Glad you had the chance to see the snow too, although, most of us are usually happy to see it go in March... I've had the pleasure of visiting a number of the States, including some in the south, but haven't had the pleasure of visiting the Lone Star State as yet but hopefully I'll get there someday to see y'all.
Almost forgot. Take care, eh...

ATT 8525 and ATT 8925 Email problems

The company I work for recently (3 months ago) bought 3 ATT 8525's for people who travel. All 3 of the phones have this issue where when they go into their power save mode, and they will not send or receive Email or produce notifications about new email. It appears to me that when the phones go into this power save mode they turn off the wireless card in the phone. I have made every effort to figure this out myself but I finally broke down and called ATT who then transfered me to HTC. HTC told me that this is a bug in the phone and that they do not have a solution for it other than trying Windows Mobile 6. However, since ATT has not released WM6 for the 8525, and I don't feel like bricking a phone, the company decided to go ahead and buy the ATT 8925, hopping that the new phone wouldn't have this problem. Unfortunately it dose.
So getting down to my question. Does anyone know how to get these phones to send and receive Email, through WIFI and not the cell network, when they are in their power save mode?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Oh and BTW, after toying around with the 8925 I do have to say that the new features included in the phone are quite nice, hate the chrome though.
Thanks
Via WiFi? No. You wouldn't like the battery life if it did.
Battery life
I don't really care about that right now. I'm just looking for a solution to the problem i am currently having.

you need to disable the at&t proxie to use wifi to send mail/etc
To have the wifi alwayz on even in standby is not wise, you batter will die fast ......
I have no issues using Active sync with exchange 2007 i get emails even when in power save maybe you should get some exchange accounts

You don't understand the gravity of what he told you. The battery life would literally be 2-3 hours.
Manually pressing the power button and tapping 'check for new messages' is a much better solution than being completely unable to access email for 3/4 of the workday because the battery has died.
Think about it.
Also, on your install CD, you'll find some AT&T software to push email to the phone automatically, waking up the phone using SMS. And, as other people have suggested, these phones were designed with Microsoft Exchange in mind and setting up an Exchange server would also help your problem.
Thank you for the replies.
Dose the "push" feature work with non exchange email servers. The only reason I ask is because we don't have an exchange server.

I took a look at this and it seems to describe the problem i have very well. In regards to the battery life, is there a way to have the WIFI turn on when its time to check mail and then turn off after its finished? I would really like these phones to be using WIFI most of the time even though we have an unlimited data plan, WIFI just seems to be faster.

ringy2 thank you. I'll take a look at that.
You know I have been working off of the thread linked above and I have gotten the phone to the point where it seems to be checking our mail server over GPRS/3G (I have turned the WIFI antenna off). The problem now is that the when it goes to check messages it won't DL any new ones that may be on the server. Any ideas?
Do you not have unlimited data with at&t? If you do then there is absolutely no reason not to leave wifi off and just use that for email. As for checking emails and not getting anything new. You need to adjust the settings for your account.
surrept, Yes we have an unlimited data plan and at this point i have given up on getting the phone to check via WIFI. As for the settings, what are you refering to? I have the account setup and i have configured it exactly how it is supposed to be. i have it DLing full copies of messages w/ no attachments, and it is set to check mail every 5 min (will change this back to 15 once i have finished testing).
Um, BTW - AT&T did release WM6 for the 8525... VERY much worth it. However, I'm still going for a 8925 for the doubled RAM/ROM & GPS...
I highly doubt that. Again i have looked in every deep dark place that the internet has and haven't found any WM6 ROM that I can DL from ATT site. you are probably referring to the "official" ATT ROM that i have seen floating around. Im not going to put that on these phones because, one I work for a descent size company and I don't want to be breaking any law and such on there behalf. Two I don't feel like bricking any of these phones. I want the warranty to be valid on them. If it was my personal phone i might try it. but since these are the companies phones it ain't gonna happen.

8525 and skype

I am trying to instal skype on my 8525 which has been upgraded to WM6. For some reason I am unable to use it. When I run Skype it starts , logs me in and shows a list of my friends. But they all appear offline. I can however see the Echo test as green and online. I also able to make the test call. Another wierd thing that I notice is that I can perform user searches on skype. Skype detects my friends and lets me add my friends to the list. However they tell me they never see me online even when I am logged in. I am not sure if I am using the correct version of skype of my phone since during installation it asks me if I want to install skype for pocketpc.
Any help / recommendation will be highly apppreciated ...
Skype 2.2.0.18 in TYTN works ok
Hi,
I am using Skype ver2.2.0.18 on my TYTN and do not have the problem you described.
I never tried it via 3G connection, but only WIFI.
Making calls works OK, meaning not as good as from my laptop, but good enough to have a conversation.
My PPC Skype takes up to 90sec to show online contacts and I quess that also my friends only see me online after this short delay.
Echo/Sound test service is always green right from the start, while real contact show green after above mentioned delay.

ARo

Answering the Phone with ACTIVESYNC

Good Morning
Our work unit has recently purchased Moguls for 10 employee's. The IT department just enabled the phone to "SYNC" over the air using Microsoft exghange server.
The problem is with the default setting of "As Items Arrive" we are not able to answer incoming calls. It appears to me as a layman that the phone is not dropping the data session to answer the phone, but hey what do I know?
We have tried adjusting the schedule to every 10 and evey 15 minutes but if we happen to be syncing, we cannot answer.
Our IT department does not know the answer.
Any Ideas
what rom are you running? i had heard of some people having this issue after a rom update, but ive never had it myself
Activesync
I am running 6.1 Test rom but the other users are running the latest 3.39 rom from Sprint. I have not been able to find this info from searching. Do you know if people are using Activesync over the air and succesfully answering the phone and syncing??
Thanks Mobo
im using DCD 3.0.6 (i think, its 3.0.something) syncing with the exchange server (emails recieved as they arrive) and im able to answer calls with no problems, and i havent had the issue with any previous roms, and ive used almost all DCDs roms since 1.6 and the leaked GPS "stock" rom from sprint
the problem people were having wasnt specifically linked to activesync, but just that it wasnt taking calls with any data connection open, i dont recall specifically what rom it was with, ill try to find the thread

Answering the phone
Thanks for your help so far. I guess I should be more specific. What happens is the phone is not in use, it may be syncing but the screen is usually shut off. The phone rings and when you attempt to answer it it seems to mute the incoming call( the phone continues to ring for the caller) until the voicemail kicks in. Again this happens on all 10 of our phones and only since we began syncing over the air with exchange server 2007.
Thanks

Free Skype-to-Skype on 3 (on HD)

Hello all,
If Orange Disconnections team get back up and running this afternoon, I am going to be canceling my Orange contract and it is looking like 3 has the best SIM only plan for me.
My phone is already unlocked, de-branded vi flashing ROM's.
One thing that enhances the draw for me on 3 is the free Skype to Skype calls. I am wondering whether anyone here has tried it and got it set up correctly (Skype and the free calls via 3)
Reading through the 3 help files makes it sound impossible at the moment and a simple search on the Blackstone forum revealed no new information.
Hopefully someone here can enlighten me.
what is the difference between that and free skype to skype calls on wifi?
do they detect it's a skype call over gprs and don't charge you?
or do you have flatrate data and they don't block the ports used by skype ?

From the stuff I have read on the 3 website, they use the data connection over 3G/HDPSA and do not charge you for it when used with Skype calls.
They also mention that you are required to use their own Skype program, not one downloaded from the Skype website. Perhaps that helps with their system.
This is from the 3 website:
"If you put a 3 SIM card into a 3G* mobile from another network you can still make calls, send messages and access the internet, but you can't access Skype.
We’re working hard to fix this. Our aim is that over the next few months customers will be able to insert their 3 SIM card into any popular unlocked 3G mobile and automatically get the right settings for the 3 network. Plus you’ll also receive a link to download the correct version of Skype on 3 – so you can have free Skype-to-Skype minutes forever.
It is important to note that the Skype mobile client must be the version which comes directly from 3 (rather than any other source) in order to be able to get free Skype-to-Skype calls forever."
I am not sure whether this means if I would need to obtain the 3 Skype somehow and use that or some other way.
It is not a huge issue for me. The 3 SIM only deal is the best going even without the free Skype to Skype.
But... it would be nice. I am looking to see if anyone has experience of switching to 3 with a non-3 phone and using their free Skype to Skype service.
