Reminder led blinks for only 5 minutes! - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hi,
The led in htc hero blinks for only 5 minutes after a e-mail is received (and not checked). This is awfully, since the whole point is check thru the led if any event was missed. The ppc has a registry hack to make the led blinks to infinite (or till you check the message), so, any workaround for hero?
Thanks.
PS: We already don't have colored leds, and now this, very disappointed with HTC.

This doesn't quite resolve the issue, as this program doesn't use the trackball LED, but instead uses the green LED in the speaker. Also, it doesn't have settings for emails, which it seems andreofgyn would like.
When I get some time, I will do some digging around and see if I can find the trackball settings in the system. There's a good chance it will require a rooted phone to adjust the setting. I'm working on a custom bootscreen atm, once, I've got that sorted out, I'll look into this.
EDIT: Alright, maybe andreofgyn wasn't referring to the trackball LED. I just realized that when the Hero gets an email, the speaker-LED is actually the one that blinks, and not the trackball like all our other notifications.
Myself, I'm more concerned with the trackball LED for missed calls and text messages only lasting 5 minutes, so that's probably what I'll look into first. If people want to provide feedback about specific LED's (eg. would you like the trackball LED for emails, or is the speaker LED ok?) then I can see what I can find.

Okay E-Mail isn´t supportet but SMS and call. Is it difficult to make a option more for E-Mail?
The trackball isn´t support from any programm. By example Handcent SMS has got a option, but it doesn´t work. HTC release a developer kit, but nothing work yet. So when you will make it, I say thank you!

Yeah, I was refering to "speaker-LED", but if you can do unlimited flash with the trackball LED, it's good too. Missed Reminder is a good app, but like craig0r said, no e-mail reminders.
I have a rooted phone and can test anything. Thanks for all good will answers

Hm... maybe this will automatically get fixed in Modaco when they move to a newer base ROM.

I also have a telus htc hero with the modaco rom and the blinking LED/trackball only blinks for about 5m than stops

is there any solution to this other than using a third party app?

Is it possible to make the LED flash quicker for notifications?

Hi guys,
Is there any reg hack to make the LED flash faster for notifications by changing the interval?
It really bugs me not being able to tell the difference between a notification and low battery level because they both flash the same colour
i too agree ..... any answers anyone?
here, here.
One of the features i miss that was on the prophet. The LED would flash at twice the rate for a message, so was easily spotted.
Glad im not the only one who would like this feature. It would be really nice if there was a way to do it.
Anyone?
the blinking is way too slow! sometime i have to stare at the phone for awhile to see the light to comfirms my pdaphone is ON.
Yeah i find myself doing that but to see if i have a new message/missed call etc. It's a shame nobody seems to know of a way to modify the speed at which it pulses

Forget that, to tell difference between bluetooth on and wifi on is a killer!
I was wondering if the reg settings from the wiki for custom notifications (flash led x seconds) is applicable? I haven't tried it, but thought if i said, flash for 5 seconds, it would be like a steady on for 5 seconds, off, on for 5 seconds?
What is the reg setting for custom notifications? The only key i can see mentioned in the Wiki is RingTone0 which is for incoming calls not for other notifications.

Oh. I thought that you could set that for all types of notifications individually.

It would be good if that was possible, but i don't think it is..?
bumping this thread; wondering if anyone has discovered a way yet?
I'd like to stop the service blinking LED (only blink for notifications) Any hacks out there? Yes, I searched...
BUMP BUMP!!
Cant belive that nobody found a solution.
Its really anoying that I can not check if a SMS arrived or bluetooth is switched on just by a short look.
The blinking frequenzy on my Hermes is 3 sec for the green (right) led and 6 sec. for the blue (left) led.
This is definitly too long.
PLS. post a solution!
Any sulution?
1)
I know there is a thread already existing: (General/Dev + Hacking: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=295729&highlight=hack+led+possible+on+wm6).
But its written that this is not stable, especialy when device is in standby mode.
2)
I remember there was a reg hack too to change a script which is responsible for controlling the leds. But this is only for ringtone, not for notifications! (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry)
I guess such a little (userfriendly) programm which can change frequency and colour of the LED´s for notifications would be very usefull to all.
Or even a registry hack would help.
Vijay555, if you read this: please help and enlighten us!
nobody ???
Ah -- all the developers hae now flocked to the Kaiser. it's the damned nature of the beast!
I think so too,
Everybdy is spending too much time with useless romcocking.
Comeon, such a hack would be really usefull!
No Answers?
I do agree, it would be VERY usefull.
Just adding to the pot of would like to have.

Trackball Light?

I just got my Google Ion yesterday. The trackball has a light inside of it that blinks when the phone is ringing, but doesn't seem to light up for anything else. Is there any way to get it to blink for other types of notifications like SMS or Email? It's much easier to see than the little LED on the speaker.
my trackball does blink when getting a sms, and then it blinks sometimes afterwards.
Well damn. I've scoured the options and I can't find mention of it anywhere. Is it possible that the Google Ion version of the firmware omits this ability for some reason?
I also would like an utility like for the led to assign colors to events....
For the LED you should try "Missed Call" app in the market.
Cheers.

In a word, NO. This is busted on the HD2, and HTC doesn't seem interested in fixing it. Workaround: use PhoneAlarm. The latest beta makes the 'new email' LED notification work. http://www.pocketmax.net/smf/index.php?topic=7986.0

Colored Trackball Notifications?

I'd like to take advantage of the colored notifications for different events like SMS, e-mail, missed calls, etc. Is there a good, reliable (hopefully free) app that I can use to set the different colors? I tried Blink, and it was very finicky and didn't really work (it kept resetting itself back to white). Are there any other options out there that work?
Trackball Alert

Trackball alert (free or donate version) does what you want. Only problem is it doesn't work with CM6. Works moDaco's r21 though.
i tried blink too. and it just don't work for me.
is your n1 rooted? if yes, look for trackball alert or trackball alert pro. both are very good and reliable program.

Calm down there buddy. People posting responses such as yours and not even including valid help to follow it (your link does not produce any results) is just as bad if not worse than "those that do not search first".
Here... allow me to post what you should have said instead...
"The stock ROM does not allow you to manually change the trackball notification colors for your apps (unless it happens to be a feature that a developer built-in specifically for such app). But there are apps such as Blink or Trackball Alert that will let you change your notification color.
Also, keep in mind that this topic has been covered in this forum many times before. So if you hadn't tried the search feature before posting this, please keep it in mind for the future."
There, that sounds much better...
And for the rest of you "SEARCH FIRST OMGWTFBBQ!" nazis, let's not forget that xda has over 440,000 threads and almost 6.5 MILLION POSTS. Searching for something as common as trackball colors or notifications or alerts also generates tons of ROM development threads, generic update threads, etc. So stop listening to the whispers of your LOLCATS and get back to the reality that we are all human and are here to help each other respectfully.

Thank you. I did search first, but "colored trackball notification" turned up a ton of stuff, a lot of which I could hardly see any relevance in.
I tried the Blink app with little success, and from what I can tell Trackball Alert only works on rooted phones with certain custom ROMs.
Are there any apps similar to Blink, except that actually work, that don't require your phone to be rooted? I'm going to wait for my warranty to expire before I root my phone.

I am not aware of any other apps except Blink that do what you are looking for. But I also haven't done much looking for one. Any time I've seen the question come up, Blink and Trackball Alert seem to be the answer 99% of the time. So I would assume that Blink is going to be your main/only option for now.

Blink is about it for unrooted. It completely works fine for me (stock frf91 not rooted). It will only blink the notify colors when the device is off. In addition, I added the free app 'gmail notifier' for Email notifiy color (since Blink has no setting for email notifies).
I believe Blink only works if you don't change the frequency setting for the notifications. If you just change the color it seems to work fine.
Also I would suggest that you can now Root your phone without actually unlocking the bootloader and voiding the warranty.
In one of the beta releases of Froyo, there was a security gap which grants root access even if the bootloader is still locked. The process isn't that hard. It does involve cutting a portion of a tab off of your battery for best results (its useless anyway).
Unfortuneately you have to go back to the latest Eclair build, update to FRF72, then FRF85. There is a thread in the ROMs forums with very detailed step by step instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710842
And a really good STOCK like rooted DEODEXED rom that is ready for anything without all the bloat that I really like, even has a white stock-like taskbar or a black themed taskbar:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714184
Trackball Alert Pro is just a little over $3.00 USD and it's worth it.
The only thing that sucks is that you gotta wait 30mins for goggle to validate before you install.
Blink works great on my Nexus One running Froyo 2.2 (not rooted).
However, changing the frequency settings have no effect at all over trackball blinking speed (Normal = Very Fast). Blink is also missing an option to change the LED color on new e-mail notification. It blinks in standard white color. But yeah... I can perfectly live with that!

I use Blink as well on my Nexus and I have the same experience as you. Great little app.
If you want free Gmail color notifications, try Gmail Notifier(Froyo version). It's in the market and it's free and is solid as a rock. It never stops running and always works and has all the color options.
I'm using this app called 'Missed Call' on my stock N1 (2.2) and it just works fine.
It seems that with a combination of Blink and Gmail Notifier I've set up my notifications to an acceptable level. I wish Froyo had it natively with options for ALL notifications. Hopefully they'll add that in a future update.
Thank you for all your help and suggestions!
With as much time as I spend lurking here and cyber stalking Team Douche, I should probably know this, so I'll bury my stupid question on page two of a thousand threads on trackball notifications - Why were they included in CM5 but not CM6? I assume it was something Google "fixed" that made it unpossible?

LED Notification like on Dell Streak?!

Hi Guys and especially Developers,
my further Device, Dell Streak, came out without an notification-LED - just like the Galaxy Note. But the Streak had also the touch-buttons lighted up by LED´s. Someone wrote an APP, which used this touch-button-led´s for notification. I was able to set up the "Back-Button" blinking everytime, when a message arrived.
Is this possible for the SGN?
NoLED. Instead of a LED a single Pixel on the screen lights up. You can customize it though, you can have different colors for calls, texts and it can even handle app notifications.
You can also only have the buttons light up, but as far as I know you can only have both buttons light up.

Chances are BLN will work on the note, but requires the support for it in the Kernel, it was the same thing with the Galaxy S2 it'll just be a matter of time before a dev integrates the support.
