Is it possible? Multi Bootloader instead of original ROM? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Has anyone made it? It'd be great if someone has cooked such ROM.
Imagine that you could switch between WM, Android and Linux. Or a port of iphone os for WM device.
Ohh, and good would be to have Symbian or BB OS ported, too!

sorry but keep on dreaming, that never will happen...
android is being ported and propably be bootable directly someday, but all the others...no. They are made for a completely different architecture, so it won't be possible

While ports iPhone OS, BB OS, and Symbian are absolutely out of the question, there are some potential ways they are looking at to natively boot Android. The most recent one would have to be here, and it makes use of code injection into the original SPL in order to boot Android directly, but it's still just an idea for the moment.

The Phone with the storage to include so many operation systems at once is yet to be invented....
...and besides... why would anyone want to downgrade his WM phone?

Right now i'm using wm 6.5 , liunix and hopefully will get android running in my phone (thanx to the hard work of the developers) but i can not book into liunix straight after soft reset... so has to go in wm6.5 and start it manually... I'm using HTC Universal....

Well it can boot from sd card.... and you can use one os at a time...

[Q] Android On ipaq 614c Business navigator

Do you know if there is android rom for hp614c ? Or can someone try to port it ?
The 614c uses a much different CPU than any existing android devices, from what I understand. There's little chance that android will ever run on this device.
the only way to run android in windows mobile is through haret from what I heard so far. But that still involve making linux image that boot on our device and then merge with android code, so if you want you have to do it yourself, I am not aware of any android rom nor I have time to investigate on it yet
android
Any news?
just use WM 6.5.. i tried on mine and it works perfectly.. xD
Well yes there is a way but still buggy I mean WIFI and Phone does not work..
But if someone want's i can tell him how to do it (sorta)
Oh and you will need a 2Gb or smaller micro SD card
Edit:
You know android now supports marvell pxa3xx cpu
The trick is that you have to configure the kernel
But I will be gone for christmas new year and stuff like that so i am not going to do something

wifi probably is not a problem as i believe ipaq2xx has the same sdio chip and marvell has a linux drivers. i remember seeing that in the haret site
edited: link for wifi driver here
Any improvements?
Well no improvements and do you know why i even got a step backwards!!!!!1
NO CAMERA
the last time i forgot to check the camera and when i did it does not work well
Dear tonev!
Can you please write a tutorial how to put android on the ipaq?
i read a post for and app to dual boot of android and wm. here.
does anyone knows if on our device can be installed both os?

Interesting..
First of all this is not a bootloader because you first boot windows mobile and then this app launches and you boot in android via haret... so this is just fancy stuff
Second if you want i will post the guide how to boot android but it is pointless because there is nothing you can do with it... You can't use it as a phone you can't use it as a camera all you can do is "play" with it if you are lucky to have wifi working...
I think may be you run android on your 61x is using by "haret" this program.
So i have search some of these information but not useful and i can't made my 612c run android to "play".
I hope that you can share these of information with us. Let us to solve the problem of running android.

Can someone write instructions how to put an android on 614c?
I came to instruction;
Jumping to Kernel... and then phone stops
What to do, how to fix this

Hi
what are the configurations needs to be done for the linux kernel to support PXA320. i am trying to load linuc from WM6.1 using linux. but strucked up after the message Jumping in to kernel.
hi, i use 614c. i tried a new anroid emulator on my ppc.But it showed me some choosing ppc(diamd,tropaz...).But there was not 614c . So it didn^t work. can you say me which anroid rom works correctly?.i want to really try it on my 614.thanks
I've seen a few Adnroid ROMs on PXA270 ffrom our HP. I am aware that it will not operate the camera, WiFi, and half the other stuff, but I would just see how it loads and works. I think the biggest problem is Haret because he always stops at the "Skip to zImage" and it looks as though he saw no memory HP: (
I bet that if tonev described how to runi it we would have found someone to help stick this to work.
Sorry for my eng I think you know what I mean

[POLL] When a NAND version is released, Will you flash?

First of all lets not turn this into a war of the mobile OS's....Everyone has their own oppinions and needs, which is why there will NEVER be a definitive answer to the Question: Which is better, WinMo or Android? So please dont start flamewars or fanboy arguments in this thread.
The purpose of this poll is to determine how many of you will be 'switching' to Android on a pemanent basis, and how many of you will be sticking with Windows Mobile in some capacity.
I ask this because originally when I first tested Android, I envisaged myself sticking with Windows Mobile when a flashable Android ROM was released.
Then as great progress began to be made with the AndroidHD2 development, I began to think that windows was dead to me and I eagerly awaited the NAND version of Android.
Now I am beginning to think that I might stick with a dual boot option even when the NAND version comes. Ideally I would like to have Android as my flashed ROM with a version of WM 6.5.x running from SD as a dual boot option.
So... When the NAND Flashable version of Android for HD2 comes...What will you do?
(I know this should be in the 'General HD2 Android' section but there isn't one...yet. Mods, please move when possible).
I like the widgets and backgrounds, android is just so much easier.
But for tomtom, I'll still be using my winmo. Some stuff just req windows to function.
So, best of both worlds, I guess..
If i can still retain WinMo then sure, why not... but if it's not possible then i'll stick to the Micro SD card. I wouldn't want to give up my ability to dual boot.
The Android builds are fast enough anyways on the card and i'm sure a class 6 Micro SD will be faster than the NAND anyways.
As well as in PCs, having dual boot means you can use both OSes Apps. So I will stick to dual boot.
I plan on buying the next big android phone tmobile and htc come up with (and i have a nexus one), so my hope for the hd2 is flashing wp7. I dont know if you nand flash if you would be able to flash wp7 if there are gonna be wp7 roms.
ANDROID: NAND
WINMO:SD card
Ubuntu: SD card
iOS4: SD card
and I wish having a new bootloader possible to select before splashscreen.
Cheer!

Now THATS what Im talkin about!
Even the iOS4 might make it onto my card if a version was ever released for HD2...one more app store cant hurt
Here's the thing
If we flash Android to nand, will there be any going back? Will there ever be updates to future versions of android? This is the primary thing to me, if the dev's will continue to upgrade Android for future versions then I might flash, but if it's kind of a one and done, I'd probably stick with dual booting. I'm also hoping that there is eventually a wp7 port for the hd2 as well...
I'm thinking if it's worth investing in a class 6 card to keep dualboot, what do u guys think about the performance difference between NAND and Class 6?

same for me, the other gps software are.... not as good and easy as tomtom.
I will use Winmo for tomtom only and the rest on android
maybe tomtom release a android version

Would it ever be possible to have iOS on a hd2? That would be great for all the extra apps.
I am happy with Android on SD card and dual booting.
I prefer the functionality of a dual boot, but in appealability I would much prefer to run Android as a day to day phone when the nand is finally ported. But I wouldn't jump in feet first,I'd hope that it was totally reversible and not flash back & forth, just that winmo could stay as an option to return to. And that the devs can continue to feed us with fresher versions when they become available.

And I'm thinking there is a different thread on that subject
i prefer winmo over the android , im returning to winmo , its just my openion :!
Bye bye winmo
The only thing that winmo is doing in my phone right now is to help me to run haret.
sure i would flash it, just to satisfy my curiosity, but i would eventually stick with dual booting winmo and android on SD.
NAND is so close....the Devs are finishing the structure port...them is a question of work to give the polish in all.
today the dev work is located on leds notification.
were is the status thread?
for the poll, I will make what turns more eficient the performance of Android....including the question of baterie life, very important.

This is great news! i really do start reading the dev channel logs to keep up to date
triple booting
i am sticking with triplebooting android ,ubuntu, winmo.i am using a class 4 card and the speed is great, moving up to class 6 .my hd2 with android scores better than my brothers evo on linpack, and quadrant.
At the moment I will stay on dual boot. Cant wait for a really stable Android for HD2 If we can get TomTom or iGO8 on Android then i will go with it on NAND.

Running NAND and WinMo...

Perhaps a stupid nob question - but here it goes...
I need to be able to still run WinMo 6.5.5 because we use some WinMo apps at work, so if i flash a Android NAND Rom, can i still boot WinMo in my custom ROM (Dutty v.13) with all the apps and stuff i have installed under WinMo?
Just need to know befor i flash a Andorid MNND rom.
It's easy to choose if you run Android from the SD card, but it would be nice to run a NAND Android Rom instead.
Nope. It is an either or situation with NAND. NAND completely erases the WinMob OS and puts android in it's place.
Just out of curiosity, what is it that you need windows for?

Thanks for the quick and precise respons ;-)
We only use mobil phones at work and have a littel app for directing calls and choosing witch phone queue we are on. And that littel app only works with WinMo :-(
I think dual booting is the best way to go for you. Use wnmo at work and android at home.
Or, ask your company to get on with the times and develop a port for Android and IOS
TBH I think you lose nothing with sticking to Android in RAM and running a sweet sweet custom Winmo 6.5 - I know that Android on HD2 is stellar, but between Laurentius 5.1, Energy, and Dutty you are really covered for WM6.5 as they are all superb.
But yes - NAND really does wipe WM completely
In all honesty RAM builds are faster than NAND ones for now.
Thanks guys - il'l stick with one of the new Android RAM builds.

Vice Versa

Hello,
I have a question about having windows mobile 6.x on windows phone 7 devices. In Microsoft, or elsewhere, forum they said that downgrading from WP7 to WM6.x is not possible just as upgrading from WM6.x to WP7.
Well, since it is been done to upgrade to WP7, I was wondering if downgrade is possible?
Thank you.
You can downgrade to WM6.5 from WP7. Just flash your 6.5 ROM as you normally would through the bootloader, this will remove MAGLDR as well as WP7 and return your phone to 6.5

Nope, I think he's talking about a WP7 native phone, so no MAGLDR no downgrade AFAIK.
PS. this should go to Q&A
Yes, I have WP7 native and would be most happy to downgrade it to WM6.5. I guess that it isn't posible to do it now, because there are no tools created for it, but it would be nice to know that it just could be possible to do it.
Anything is possible with the right developers behind your phone. Cottula was the savior for our phone!
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
Well, I do really hope that development will go, just a bit, to that direction.

I wouldn't wait for that to happen. The WM6.5 drivers would have to be created from scratch.
If you *really* want a good WM6.5 device, get a HD2 with a good ROM on it.
Yes, but the problem is that I have already purchased the phone. I do like it, but a bit anxious for new apps. I've considered HD2 long time ago, and I always had a qwerty keyboard on the phone (Wizard, Raphael, Kovsky, Xperia X2, Touch Pro 2 and now 7 Pro) cause I like it. But, unless WP7 starts to develop, HD2 is the best possible solution.
Thank you krazyakar.

[Q] dual boot wm & wp7

Hi everyone ,
Did anybody try to run wm from wp7? I know that dual boot between wp7 and android (from which wm can be started) is possible, but I don't need the latter since WiFi doesn't work there for my device.
I wonder if there is a simpler way.
Thanks in advance!

No, Cant be done.
Both OS's need to be booted from NAND. DFT was trying to work on a way to get WM booted from SD but its been abandoned.
You can only...
WM on NAND + Android on SD
Android on NAND + Android on SD
WP on NAND + Android on SD
Thats it.
Thanks for the answer.
You have saved my time and perhaps wp7 installation
It is unfortunate actually, since there are still some applications in wm that are not implemented in wp7..
shame they stopped working on this, it would trully be amazing if they could get that to work
