Mystery vibration - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Just got a TD 2. Really love it after using Eten M600 for years.
But, somethings got me stumped. Frequently the device vibrates for a few seconds without any connection to an obvious event. I've checked that the phone ringer is not set on vibrate. I also checked sound & notifications - theres no event that I can see set to vibrate. After it happens, I check the notifications - and there is no event listed there.
So what is causing this to happen?

does it vibrate when u touch the dispaly?

No, just vibrates for no apparent reason.
No calls or events or notifications.
There must be a cause - I just cannot think what it could be.

PHONE WONT STOP ALARMING

the phone will not stop alarming and it does not give me the option to turn off the alarm or even see the notification. I have tried a soft reset and also turning off all alarms, along with the notifications and sounds settings. If I turn all the sound settings down to zero the phone does not audibly alarm but it still vibrates, even though the vibrate feature is turned off. All started when I dropped my phone.
I cannot figure out how to fix this, and its driving me insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am having this same problem right now and it is very annoying. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Its a notification problem - use check notification to delete duplicate notifications (only delete these not all of them) Click options/settiings and tick both boxes. There may be a null notification that is often a problem that you will need to click on and delete.
Run exe on pc desktop after activesync your device.
how do you get there
I cannot find the area that you are talking about. can you give a more detailed way of getting to that area with the names of the windows that I need to click on? Thanks,
Dave

I assume the program is installed on your device. Click on check notifications icon in startmenu\programs. Click on options then settings and tick remove duplicate events box and remove script 0x000 box then ok. Then click clear and it should clear all duplicate notifications for you.
I actually had the exact same problem on my 9100. After a couple of days I simply went ahead and made a hard reset....and havent had the problem since
Jakob
I had this problem a couple of times as well. Clearing duplicate notifications (using CheckNotifications or MemMaid) and the offending notification does NOT solve the problem. It will stop the errant alarm, but the next time one of your regularly scheduled alarms goes off, you will have the exact same problem. It's as if there's some error in the program which is responsible for creating the little box with the alarm message in it and switching the left soft key ot a dismiss button.
So unless you plan on never again using your alarm clock or setting reminders for anything, jacking with the notifications will not solve the problem.
The only way I have been able to fix the problem is with a hard reset. I'm sure there has to be some other way, but I sure haven't found it yet.
Is there a cure for this or no? I just downloaded check notification and ill give it a shot, but so far it shows no duplicate alarms on my system which i find hard to believe...
Did you tick both boxes in the options and delete a notification called null - have to click and hold to delete it. The alarm notifications are under clock.exe - delete all manually if not showing up duplicates. (click and hold)
Don't use WM 5 alarms at all
I use ActiveKitten's Chronos Alarms - no worries at all!
I also had this problem and a hard reset was the only thing I could do. Afterwards I restored my backup and never had the problem before.

[Fix] Disable Wireless Networks Detected Notification

Just extract the nowifinotif.exe file and copy to \Windows\StartUp on your device and perform a soft reset.
It works on my HTC Touch Pro, I'm assuming it will work for any HTC device or possible any WM6 device.
Let me how how it works, and what device your using.
Disabling the notification will work on my device, however after each soft reset they are back. This will fix that issue
This is a standard setting...unless you are trying to do something different.
Settings->Sounds/Notifications
Wireless networks in the dropdown.
Uncheck all of the notifications.
yes, i know it's a setting under notifications.
this is for all the people like myself where that setting doesn't hold. when i soft-reset my device the notifications would come back and i would have to disable it every time. I have bumped into many posts about it with no fix. this is that fix.
Gotcha, that's cool. I've never seen it not stick but that would be a crappy problem.
Nice work on the fix.

Wow for song long i have been annoyed about the wifi popup notification, i knew about the setting but assumed it did nothing, not that it worked but didnt stay
Your app works spot on, is there anyway to still have the sound alert enabled (sonar or something), but just disable the onscreen notification?
Sure
Sure here you go, it assumes you have the file \Windows\Alert-Sonar.wma
and plays that sound when a network is detected. If you don't have that file just rename or create one with that name and put it in your windows directory.
If you are still paying attention to this thread, I would appreciate advice
Hi,
I have a new HTC 6800.
I would LOVE for the file posted as the solution to work for me as I have the same problem with popping up notifications.
However when I installed the file and did a soft reset I get this message:
The program is from an unknown publisher, running it can possibly harm your device do you want to continue?
When I click "yes" I then get this message:
Unable to run the file nowifinotif the certificate is invalid
Ugh. Is there anything that I can do to get the file to run?
thanks!
Oh snap - another solution just found
OK,
Nevermind my last question - another solution was just found.
This model has a side button to turn on/off the wi-fi - who knew! Well, mobiletechreview.com, thankfully!
"don’t fret: slide the Wi-Fi slider on the left side of the Mogul to turn Wi-Fi on. "
So, I'll just turn the Wi-Fi off unless I actually want to use it, which eliminates the constant notifications. Whew.

Hi Chet,
Thank you for your solution! How does it work?
Also, any idea what causes the issue in the first place?
Thank you,
Jeff
Good idea, I've read a number of posts about this, but have assumed it was a GSM phone problem. Could anyone confirm what phones have the problem and which don't?

I don't know exactly but I've been using it myself for a while with no problems. I'm guessing it writes changes to the registry keys that control wifi notifications.
The problem is likely to be that some process is writing some other changes on each soft reset. That's my guess anyway.
How it works
Yes your correct, I don't know why it happens only what's happening and how to fix it.
When you disable the notifications under settings on your device it changes the following values under the following registry key.
HKEY_CURRENTUSER\ControlPanel\Notifications\<"SOME GUID"> with the ".DEFAULT" value = to "Wireless network detected".
after you soft reset your device this registry setting gets reset for some reason.
The other values under this key are:
"Options", "AvailableOptions", and "Wave".
Options is what kind of notification is currently assigned (none, sound, popup, ect)
AvailableOption is your choices of what you could pick from
And wave is what sound will play if enabled.
My program just sets this value back at startup. I can post the source code if anybody actually wants it, but yeah I have no idea why it's happening.
Thank you, Chet. That helps me understand a little more.
no problem
Works for me
Chet,
Thanks, works for me. Small problem, but very annoying.
I've found a few other boards with this question, and I've pointed them here.
http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=cingular&message.id=114943&jump=true
Yeah it's an anooying bug. As a workaround I just made a .WAV file with no sound (just 1 second of silence) and assigned that one to the WLAN detecten notification. Works also
What About Other Notifications
Chet,
That was great. But I've noticed almost the same thing happens for "new email" and for "Reminders".
For both of those, I have "display message on screen" unchecked, but the phone still displays the message onscreen. However, in this case, the boxes remain unchecked after reboots.
Have you noticed that HTC's TF3D interface displays a callout box (cartoon quote) for the on screen reminders in the header, so that if I get new email and a calendar appointment, or some other reminder like an SMS or missed call, I get a "callout" box shaped notification at the top of my screen. Now, I get curious as to what the message is, so I click it. TF3D then opens their "easy icon view" screen, on which a bigger callout box is one of the buttons. I click that, and the standard MSFT tiny icons appear at the top of the screen again for "new email" and some other useless reminder like "Mtg at Johns". I need to click these tiny reminders, one at a time, then view the display message on screen, then click the soft "dismiss" button. Is this an easy way of handling reminders that I didn't want in the first place. @#$# HTC and MSFT!!
Any ideas?
This sounds great! I have a Fuze (with TAEL ROM) and this has been annoying me for a while. I suspect most people don't see it because they have wifi turned off most of the time. In my case, it's always on as I don't have a data plan

Are these options even availble?

Well I took the phone out of the house for the first time today. And all I can say it, how annoying it was being.
Is there anyway to stop the phone going of everytime is switching services (3G, HSDPA, GPRS etc) Everytime that stopped, swapped or got activated my phone went off. I was constantly checkingn it thinking I had mail or sms's, it was driving me mad
How can I get my phone to vibrate while on loud? Even though its on loud, its quite hard to hear when your out. But then if I put it on vibrate and I go inside, sometimes I dont feel it go off while walking or sitting down.
Any solutions?
Oh, and how do I set .mp3's as ringtones/alarm tones/sms tones etc. Can I only use the ones in the list?
The "Search" button is your best friend in here...why don't you give it a try first
Yeh I just get loads of random results for other phones.
I tried a few things but they didnt work
Edit: repeat post
I know this isn't much help but on my stock rom I managed to turn these off, it wasn't anything special it was in a menu somewhere, where I could stop it notifying me, so it is possible. Im afraid im no longer using that rom so I cannot check, the one im on at the moment has them off as default it seems.
Took me about 5 minutes to find the menus on my X1 (first WM phone I've owned) for all the problems you have listed. I suggest you either do a search or play around in the Settings.
Maybe the original poster is having difficulty 'cos they are looking for options not settings...
first thing I do when I get a new machine is RTFM no matter what it is (usually while I'm waiting charge, but not needed with the LiPo here) then start experimenting with menus. It's not hard...
There's an online help system here. http://devicehelp.vodafone.co.uk/GettingStarted.php?ModelID=344&e=0 I suggest you read it
What do you mean by "turning the phone off" what's happening ?
is the screen just going blank, (it does this or new users would be screaming about the poor battery life)
Is the entire unit shutting itself down?
Is the phone part (this is not a phone it's a pocket pc, the phone is only a part of it) turning itself off?
Maybe that's the problem, this is a very advanced device, people seem to be ignoring this..

Ringtones: Just select the file you want as your ringtone and hold down until the menu comes down and from the bottom of the menu, just select "Set As Ringtone".
Alarm tones & SMS tones: Files must be in .wav format and save them into your Windows folder. Once that is done, your tones should be available from the drop down list of tones.
Hey Guys, thanks for the solutions.
However none of tem were what I was after. I dont explain myself very well.
When I say, the phone goes off when switching between 3G, HSDPA etc i mean it either vibrates of beeps depending on which mode its on.
As for the vibrating while on loud. I have it on vibrate and ring which it does, but when I recieve an SMS it just beeps when on Loud. I would like it to vibrate too like it did on my old SE

I'm looking for an option to let the phone vibrate in small intervals and not one long everlasting vibration.
In the sound/notifications tab you can only select "vibration" and not the style of the vibration.
Am I missing something or does someone know an addon?

Appointment reminder bubble not showing after softreset

Hello all,
I dug into a few WinMo boards, including this one, but couldn't come close to what keeps bugging me. I think I'll give it a try, so mods please accept apologies if this is a repost or if this has been asked before.
I heavily rely on my calendar to remind me of all the stuff I need to remember. In the "sounds & notifications" options, I've set the reminders to play some wav, to vibrate the phone and to display a notification bubble.
The issue is the following: sound & vibrate work fine, but as soon as I perform a soft-reset, the notification bubbles don't show anymore, even if the "display message" option is checked in the settings. I get the little bell icon in the top bar, and from there I can click on it in the HTC action screen to open the bubble, but it doesn't pop up automatically unless I go back to the settings, uncheck the option and save, then go again in the settings, check the option and save.
I tried to clean up the notification queue with SKTools, but it didn't changed anything. I'm pretty sure this bug wasn't present when I bought the phone, about 4 months ago. Is there any tweak or reg hack that would help me circumvent this very nasty annoyance, or should I hopelessly head for an hard-reset ?
Thanks in advance for any help one can bring.
I have the same issue - be interested to hear of any fix.
Me too, also same problem on touch pro.

I get this as well, very irritating
Me too ! This is a very irritating problem, no fix found
anywhere on the Internet
Same here. Its a terrible bug that has plagued Touchflo 3D since the Diamond...
Isn't there a third party app that shows announcements to fix this TF3D issue?
It isn't a tf3d issue, I run a ROM wihtout tf3d and it still occurs. Works fine for a while and then the display bubble stops popping up.
I've tried galarm as a third party alarm solution but this must rely on the system popup to give it focus because the same thing happens.
Very irritating, affects me when my wakeup alarm goes off and I have to mess around for ages to get it to cease.
Are you using wktask ? If so, it is being hidden by it. In your preference under the first tab, check the option for hide the task list when there is no task.

No, although I have used it in the past and it is a very good task manager. Seems to be the settings under sounds & notifications for reminders which revert to unticked "display on screen". I tick it again and it is OK for a few days then it "unticks" itself. Weird. I am using Wisbar Advance Desktop 2 but I can't see that this should affect it.
Its not a wktask or wisbar issue as im not running either of those...

other problems with bubble...
Hi,
I'm having the same problem as above on my Touch Pro 2, but also, if the reminder includes a '&' it shows as a '_' in the bubble. A bit of an ASCII problem maybe?
If HTC is watching, the reminder bubble integration into TF3D has gained us problems and removed the ability to snooze the alarm... not really an improvement.
Problem I have, is that if HTC supply a fix at the ROM level (as with the GPS and SMS fixes) Vodafone won't take it up for months, if ever.
Cheers

Fred
I have figured it out the Alarm & calendar notifications issue. These settings will display Alarm & calendar notifications on screen with out clicking the little bell on top of the screen all the time.
Go to Menu --> settings --> Sounds & Notifications under “Personal” tab --> select “Events” under Sounds tab then --> go to “Notifications” tab --> select “Reminders” option from drop-down list for Event field --> Select “Display message on screen” and then click OK on top of the window.
You can select other number of options from drop-down menu to display the notifications.
Hope this will solve most people’s notification issue.

Screen comes on when message received

Is there any way to stop the screen turning on when I receive a text, I dont always want to read it straight away and when the screen comes on in my pocket I find i press all sorts of things.
Very annoying.
start - settings - Sounds & Notifications - Notifications (tab at bottom) - select "Messaging: new text message" and unclick box for display message on screen.
Hi,
What about delivery notification ? It's not possible to change notifications about it, and it's always turn the screen on.

Hmmm - I think this is a bug in the system because I have heard other people with this problem and I personally have the box checked to see the window but it does not always appear.
A soft reset should correct the behaviour BUT the problem will return.
Try at least the soft reset and you will see the correct behaviour (if only for a while !!)
how annoying is this an issue of tf3d overriding windows settings?
Also interested in dropping the screen wake up upon sms arrival and confirmation text. No need, the sound/vibration is enough.

Anyone had any luck getting rid of this issue?
Ultimately I dont want the screen to wake up unless
a: someone is calling me
or
b: i turn it on
Any ideas?
Try with HD Tweak. I enabled the option in HD Tweak, but found the same issue (I was making calls when the phone was in my pocket and I received a text message). Then, I disabled from the same HD Tweak and it didn't turned on the screen anymore.
