Installing PIM on Hero - Hero CDMA General

Is there a way to install PIM Backup on the HTC Hero?
I have my backups from my Windows Mobile Sprint Diamond.
Or is there a program to view the PIM file from my computer at least so i can enter my contacts in the Hero?
Appreciate any help.

Try using migrate. You can install it on your Diamond then put on your hero to transfer contancts.
I havent actually used it but its free so why not give it a try

The only problem is that my Diamond is dead, which is why i got the Hero
I have most of my contacts in from facebook already, so i guess it doesn't matter. Thanks for your post though!

One thing you have going for you is since the Hero is pulling contacts from Google, if you can find a way to dump your address book into Google, your phone should just pick it up.

Backing up contacts on pc?

Hi, im about to update my ROM for the first time. I would like to back up all my contacts, and their Facebook info, to my computer, is this possible and how?
OK, that's easy Just install the Mobility Center in Windows open Outlook or Windows Mail (if you got Win7 you have to download LiveMail) and sync your phone, that's it.
Alternativ you can use the MyPhone app in the Marketplace. It could Backup nearly everything on your phone! Cool tool!
Cheers
Schakal
To be honest I don't like having software doing that for me.. Isn't there just some file i can copy from the phone to the pc? That would be much easier

PIMBackup will backup contacts and other info, I am not sure about facebook and it will backup and restore from the storage card. Just do a search here to find it.
No, the file format are different from pc to phone, so you have to use Microsoft MyPhone or Windows Mobile Device Center, as we all do.

ActiveSync/Mobile Device Center work brilliantly. It was the reliability of AciveSynce over Sony Ericsson's PC Suite that prompted me to switch to WinMo phones several years back.
The other alternative would be to use a dedicated backup program such as SPB Backup which can backup everything on your phone.

Best backup solution for HD2?

Afternoon XDA!
I plan on a bit of a rom flashing marathon on my phone this next week to see what else is out there and perhaps even teach myself a thing or two.
My question is - which application is best for backing up my contact and SMS (and perhaps shortcut) data for the HD2? On older devices I've used PIM backup to take care of contacts and messages, but with the HD2's Facebook integration will this method work? I'd ideally not have to link everyone back up with their profiles after flashing.
I've heard that SPB backup may have issues if restoring from one rom to another so not sure how well it'd work.
What's your recommendation?
Thanks
Hi there,
Spb backup works great for me. Had tried some others but have been using spb backup 2.0 since my Touch HD. Never had any problem.
HTH,
Sam.
I also use SPB Backup.

I'm more than happy using MS myphone - backs itself up each night so I don't have to think about it. 200MB of storage, can even do pics and vids.
Hi, I use Myphone and Googlesync for my backups. Additionaly installed apps are on my PC or my Marketplace or PocketPCfreeware accounts and my data is on my SD card and PC. I think one of the problems people have experienced when they use full backup programs is if they accidently restore the registery from their old configuration over their shiny new system. Oh and one of my friends lost all his Footprints when he flashed without exporting them to his SD card (using the Export feature of Footprints).
Hope this helps.

How do you use google sync on the hd2? is there an app that I have to download?
Spb backup works great for me too!
Hi, Googlesync involves configuring an Exchange server at the address m.google.com in ActiveSync on your phone. It will then treat your GMail as an Exchange Server and you will have options on what to sync. Here is the info at Google: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299. 2 key points noted by Google; Back up Calender and contacts first (I suggest MyPhone) and don't try and sync tasks.
Regards.

But using export, you have to do it one by one. Is there a way to export all the footprints?
I found that it is easier just to restore the footprint folder content and all my stuff is back.
By the way, I just learnt that HD2 came bundled with Sprite Backup! At least in the HK versions. I don't know why HTC hasn't talked about it anywhere. It is sitting on my SD card and I never knew that it was there.

Yes, you can restore the foorptints folder, if you have backed it up to start with. That hadn't occurred to my friend
Good stuff
I want to back up my HD2 (full backup). Any software that works to restore everything as it was, e.g. contacts, sms, email account, facebook links with contacts, cab files, quicklinks etc?

Just make sure to copy all the files on your phone to a backup location
Or try PIM Backup: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
use spb movilbiles
SPB backup is the best, for me.
All full backup apps can have attendant problems if used from one flash ROM to another (ie not just a reflash of the same ROM).
They carry over file associations, registry settings etc and I believe contribute to instability issues.
So be aware and use them at your own risk.
For everything else (PIM, texts, browser favourites etc) MyPhone is sweet.
SPB Backup has an option to restore after a ROM upgrade. Though this doesn't work flawlessly (e.g. not all shortcuts were retrieved and had to be created manually) it does do the important things.
I have always used SPB Backup, never had an issue.
I use Microsoft Myphone. I dont get what the issue with it is. I dont both backing up texts as last time I did it was boring waiting for 4000 texts to restore back to the phone. I store all pics/music on my memory card so its only a case of contacts, bookmarks, calendar etc. All my FB links seems to magically reappear as well. I think this might be something to do with the Facebook tab though. *Credit to who ever built it*
I know im a newb. But how do you restore from my phone. Im new to windows mobile. I lost all contacts, calendar entries, etc. I saved to microsoft my phone, but how to restore? Also backed up to a few other outlets but cant figure out howto restore any of them. LOL
Sprite Backup for me. http://www.spritesoftware.com/
It's perfect, backups anything you want, including SD card. Using this with my Samsung Omnia sometimes gave an error in the report (although it didn't have effect on installing my backup!) but with the HD2 it doesn't even give this error. Backing up is easy, just set preferences and run it! The backup is an exe-file that you run from your device or SD card after you've done a hard reset. It basically saved my life several times after having to do hard resets!

HD2 Gingerbread vs HTC Sync

Hi,
I am not sure if someone else asked this question. I updated my phone to Nand Gingerbread. Everything works great. However, the major problem I am having is that HTC Sync (on Win7 laptop) does not recognize the device.
In the previous Android (2.2), when we used to connect it to the PC, many options would appear to identify the type of the connection. One of those options was "HTC Sync". Choosing this option used to allow HTC Sync software on the windows pc to recognize the device and sync its contents.
However, in Gingerbread I cannot find anyway to connect my HD2 in a "sync" mode in order to allow HTC Sync to recognize it.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
htc sync requires htc sense.

Had the exact same problem when i was trying out a Gingerbread rom, and thanks to Tann he told me about a program called MyPhoneExplorer
It works with your dilema and you'll be back to syncing:
http://www.fjsoft.at/en/downloads.php
And its Free too, cant get any better then that
ooo good find, i looked high and low for an outlook sync solution, cant believe i missed this.
it also seems to include the adb usb drivers, so perhaps this could be installed instead of the whole android sdk for the adb drivers....

Thank you so much. This application seems very useful.
Anyways, my problem is that before I flash my HD2 to Gingerbread, I had Froyo Sense, and I synchronized all my contacts to HTC Sync on my PC, and now after I flashed I found that I cannot get those contacts back...
So I guess my only solution is to flash back to Froyo Sense, get those contacts, sync them using MyPhoneExplorer, and then Flash again to Gingerbread.
Thanks for the help everybody.

HTC Sync uses outlook, you need to look in the setting in the app, you can re-sync your outlook contacts with this program. Thats what its meant for also.

You have to install the tool on your win7 from here.
After that install My Phone Explorer Client from the Market. Connect your phone via WLAN or USB and start the Client on the phone. After that start the app from your win7 and set up your sync source (Outlook/Windows Contacts/Gmail/only MyPhoneExplorer) in settings or via new phone assistent.
You can now sync Contacts/Appointments/SMS/Files/Tasks and Notes (new with separate phone app).
It's the first sync solution where you can sync outlook tasks and notes, I love the tool.

Looks also not bad, but I miss the calendar sync.
And it looks like you can transfer contacts to the phone, but can't sync
changes on the phone or in Outlook.
Can you report please how it works?

Transferring contacts

How to transfer contacts from another phone....
Been messing with my wife's Sensation, then installed MIUI ROM on my HD2.
Got messed up with SIMs.... Now my wive's Sensation has all my contacts.....SUX....LOL Can't get it back on my HD2......
Any help appreciated!!
Tester.
If your wife's phone is a WinMo phone, search for .dot Fred's PIMBackup. That will do the trick for you.
Thanks.
Unfortunately Sensation is an Android phone. Is there any program on the market to transfer contacts from Android Phone?
Thank you.

I've used Spb products for years and never had a problem with them. But I've never used this one, I don't have any android devices. You might want to check it out. I don't know if it let's you reverse the process and go from Android to WM, but it's worth looking into.
Spb Android Migration
Thanks, bro for trying to help!!
The thing I probably omit to mention that both Sensation and HD2 are Android based phones.
I'll give a shot with SPB program!!
Really appreciate your help!!
You're welcome. I would think that since they're both Android it would make things simpler than trying to go back from Android to Windows. There's gotta be a utility to move things between Android devices. It looks like .dot Fred isn't doing Android stuff, but there are a lot of bright people like him. Good luck!
I would sync the HD2 with an google account using ActiveSync. And do the same with the Android phone.

Importing WM Contacts into Android
You need PIM Backup, a computer with internet access and a Gmail account.
1. Open PIM Backup on your Windows Mobile device. Select the Backup action and unselect everything but contacts, then hit Next.
2. At the "Select backup filename and folder" screen, unselect the "compress backup" and "binary backup" options, then hit Next.
3. Transfer the BACKUP.PIB file that you just made from your phone to your computer. Change the extension from .PIB to .RAR, then extract the file.
4. The extracted file should be BACKUP.CSC. Simply change the extension to .CSV and import the file to your gmail account. All your contacts can now be imported to your phone through gmail - just follow the instructions given in the phone's contact menu.
or activesync with google http://www.google.com/support/mobile...&answer=138636
since they're both android based, here are three offline ways:
1- you can use "my phone explorer" which can back up/restore/transfer contacts in a flash.
2- you can use titanium backup on your wife's phone to make a backup of contacts, transfer the contact backup file to the HD2 and restore it there, a hot reset and you're good to go.
3- if you're using a sense based ROM on the HD2, most of them come with "transfer data" app, you can link both devices through bluetooth and get all your contacts transferred to your HD2.
I've tried all of the above solutions with pretty much 100% success.

No no, Exchange server, is microsoft's "google sync" i never used a windows phone, but i know in windows mobile i was able to backup my contacts to an xml file then used an online converter to convert it to vcd to be restored in android. And in windows mobile i used smschat to backup my inbox. Look in the windows phone store for any type of backup software and get back to me with them and i'll see what sort of conversions i can do.
